All I want to do is stick my feet in ice water until the leaves change color. I love nature. I love summer. But nature and summer in Munich seem to be testing this love.

It’s another year, which means, another bug bite battle. And I’m losing it, again. My ‘exotic’ blood is highly prized in Munich’s Englischer Garten. I can imagine these mini Bavarian vampires sipping on another boring bratwurst hemoglobin latte all the while jonesing for some pacific islander...
While Obama entertained a crowd of about 200,000, I supported my own hero of the hour in a mini-crowd of 31,000. Alex participated in the Maxi-Firmenlauf held at the Olympiapark and I figured he could use a little fan club action.

I once upon a time used to be a road race junky but I lost the fever for it. Seeing all these people in their running gear brought back a lot of memories. But I never participated in anything this big.

The race began at 7:30pm on a balmy evening. This was to be...
Senator Obama, Willkommen in Deutschland! Ah, to be an expat in Berlin. oh well. Yeah, Berlin is only 6 hours away from Munich by train but I don’t have a Bahn Card 50 to make the price of a train ticket even slightly palatable. I’m also not the rallying type.

So I will settle for tv/internet coverage. ZDF will be covering his speech at the blah-blah controversial Siegessäule. The original video stream hopefully can be found here, courtesy of ZDF, and should start around 7pm...
This weekend we celebrated my 3rd anniversary in Germany. A lot has changed since that first day I stepped off the plane. I’m understanding and speaking German now and we’ll see at my attempts at French. A new career path is on the horizon, away from righteous ideas I once believed had to define me.. perhaps now I’m just believing in me.

After the first 3 months in Munich, when my tourist visa expired, I think the silent shock set in. I lived alone in a student matchbox,...
Her poor German and the 3.90€ per maki roll brought me much comfort after a whirlwind lecture. Since it wasn’t raining we decided to walk toward to the subway near LMU but then found ourselves drawn to what was...
