How do you know when you’ve met THE right girl in college?

Answer:

To some, college is about furthering education. For others, college is a chance to get away from mom and dad and live free. For most, however, college is the time to find that one special life partner. You are asking how then to KNOW when you’ve found that person.

There is much debate whether there is literally one person for each individual to marry. This won’t be another forum for THAT controversy… Sorry! We know that God’s will for Adam was certain! Honestly, there were no other options! What the Bible does teach us is that a man is to remain faithful to his wife, and the wife is to be faithful to the husband. In other words, the one you marry is “THE one” for you. Unfortunately, there is no great test that God has provided for finding the perfect one to marry, although there are several helpful hints. Bear in mind that your goal is to BE the right person, the kind which will naturally attract the right person!

You should want nothing less than a mate who seeks to glorify God with their life! Ok…ok…so, that’s not the easiest thing to test, but it’s a starting point. BUT, the man you marry better be a spiritual leader and the woman you marry better be a great follower!

Other things to ask (the short list):

What are your life goals – do you share similar passions?
What is your parents’ opinion of this individual? This one is HUGE!
Do you communicate well? Will this continue to grow?
Do you have mutual friends or mutual kinds of friends?
Is there some “electricity” going on between you two? That’s not UNspiritual! GOD brings some fireworks along with this wonderful thing called marriage!

When I got my first glimpse of Dr. Marriott, I knew I had never met anyone like him and I was mesmerized. He had a spiritual fervor that drew my heart to him in an incredible way. We both honestly knew very shortly that God had brought us together. The Lord verified this many times over. That’s a little bit of our story!

There are a multitude of other questions like this. Perhaps you have other ideas that might help someone find that special one. Feel free to comment. Again, this is not a fool-proof solution, but a start nonetheless.

Pinterest at College?

School begins in a mere three weeks! You know what that means? I finally have all of my lovely students back on campus! I’m so excited about seeing all of you and hearing about your summers!

So…in celebration of school being so close, I thought I’d throw out an idea…Let’s share some Pinterest ideas. If you’re anything like me, the word “pinterest” gets you so excited! I love getting on there and finding so many handy tips, seeing cute pictures, and just feeling extremely crafty. Pinterest is one of my favorite places to go when I have some down-time.

Especially when it comes to organizing and decorating your dorm room, Pinterest can come in handy at college. So, for the next three weeks, share ideas and pictures for the rest of us to enjoy and use. This could get really fun! I’ll start it off with a picture of a wonderful way to make a dorm room a little more cozy…

I know many of you are traveling this summer, whether for vacation, on a missions trip, or to a camp! Wherever you may be serving this summer, I’d like to see where you are. Celebrating Moms!

I don’t know about you, but I have been blessed with multiple dear ladies in my life who have been incredible godly examples to me! As we just celebrated mother’s day, I thought it would be appropriate to share stories of women who have influenced our lives. Whether it be a mother or a dear mentor, share how these ladies have loved, encouraged, and taught you. Let’s use this month to celebrate our mothers and other special women in our lives!

Why I Love Matthew Cuthbert . . .

Tears were flowing and girls’ hearts throbbing as Matthew Cuthbert took his last breath in the 9 outstanding performances of Anne of Green Gables-A Musical at Maranatha last month. One week afterwards, songs such as “Ice cream” and “Kindred Spirits” continue to be hummed all over campus. All of the cast quickly gained much popularity as night after night they put on phenomenal performances! One character that attracted considerable attention was Ben Stormo, who played the endearing role of Matthew Cuthbert. When you asked any girl on campus who her favorite character from the musical was, nine times out of ten you would hear, “Matthew.” Ben said he really didn’t imagine playing the role of Matthew Cuthbert would attract so much attention. He did, however, begin to realize his growing popularity when he received forty new friend requests on facebook! Whether it was his lulling bass voice or his tender smile, Ben embraced the character of Matthew and gripped the hearts of the audience. He became the sweet Matthew Cuthbert that everyone knew and loved!

So . . . I want to hear from you! Why do you love Matthew so much? What are some of your favorite quotes of his? Maybe it’s a favorite scene in either the musical or the movies. I’m excited to read all of your responses.

Trials Are a Road to Blessing?

It fell out of a book . . . just a little card. The old book was the gift given out of love for my sorrow, but it was the card which held my attention. The sameness of my days had become a burden, waiting for health and happiness to return to my aching body and soul. The greeting card contained a poem about God washing the windows of our lives with rain to give a new perspective, but the message inside was a call to look at sorrow and trials as a road to blessing. The author suggested a list of blessings that came via sorrow, trial, difficulty, or pressure. “How could that be?” my mind asked. Years later, the book was discarded, and that worn card took up residence in my Bible, a sweet reminder that the God Who gives me breath placed it in an old book for my time of trial.

Maranatha’s First Game Show

Can you imagine winning a trip to the Bahamas at Maranatha? Yeah right! Well my own wonderful students proved it is possible a few weeks ago!

On March 2, Maranatha’s student body council hosted its first game show. Hundreds of students eagerly bought their tickets and some even turned it into an opportunity to ask a date along. The president of the student body and his faithful council members worked hours planning and preparing for the big night.

From guessing correct prices, to speedy thinking, and even down to Maranatha specialized commercial breaks, the students laughed and cheered the entire night. Some of the incredible prizes won were a Coach purse, an i-pod Nano, a 47-inch screen tv, and cash. The grand prize, though . . . none other than a trip to the Bahamas!

Jason Garrison never imagined when he bought his ticket for the game show that he would be the grand winner of a cruise for two to the Bahamas! He was completely stunned when he realized what had happened! Jason decided to give his cruise to his parents who will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this summer. “I also realized it would be extremely difficult to pick just one of my friends to go on a cruise with me! ” Jason said. He sure was the most popular guy on campus that night.

Overall, I can say it was a night to remember! The students are still talking about it. I’m already looking forward to seeing what Maranatha’s student body council does for us next year!
