My New Eyes - Scarless Double Eyelid Creation

2014 was not a smooth-sailing year for me. Yet there was one thing that I did right. It was a long-time wish I granted myself... like finally.

Well, I did double eyelid surgery :D Hmm... surprise-surprise (for some). Almost everyone thought I am blessed with double eyelids. Apparently not.

I think I am pretty good at makeup, especially where eyes are concerned. Makeup do wonders uh.

If you take a closer look at my eyes, you will notice how unbalanced my eyes looked. I need to apply thick eyeliner to mask the imperfections.

Reality strikes when I go makeupless. See my super monolid?! O-M-G #facepalm

And by the way, both my eyes used to be monolid. As I get older, double eyelid start forming on my left eye somehow. So... my left eye is visibly bigger than the right one - O_o!

Ok. I know I look super different without makeup. Those sleepy lifeless eyes. Period.

I need to do something about my eyelids! *pouts*

Anyway, I did my research and decided on DST (Double Sutures and Twisting) - a scarless double eyelid creation method. I am not game enough for the conventional cutting method. Can imagine the pain... *gulps* Moreover, it take months to fully recover. The downtime is minimal for DST - recovery takes around 10 days max. Luckily, DST is suitable for my eyelids since they are not too saggy.

DST is different from the traditional suture method as it reduces breakage rate by linking skin to interlocked sutures. Additionally, the folds and creases created are scarless. There is no incision involved. The sutures are well hidden inside the eyelid to create the desired crease. Natural-looking double eyelids!

Thanks to Daphne's recommendation, I did my double eyelid surgery at Centre For Cosmetic Rejuvenation & Surgery. I knew I was in good hands of Dr Shenthilkumar (also known as Dr Shens), who has done more than 2000 eyelid surgeries so far. Plus, he is Korean-trained and Ministry of Health accredited.

The crease marking part is a very important part of the surgery. It marks the part where the double eyelid is to be created. I've heard that some doctors are not meticulous enough when doing the crease marking, which ends up in patients having uneven looking double eyelids. Hence, it is advisable to go for a good doctor like Dr Shens.

I opted for tapered double eyelids (medium crease) since it looks more natural than parallel ones (high crease). Medium crease is best for those who apply light eye makeup like I do. If you cannot live without your thick eye makeup and fake lashes, high crease will be better.

To reiterate, there is no removal of skin and does not require to go under the knife (just stitching). The surgery took less than 30mins!

Is it painful? YES... BUT only the anesthesia injection part. It is important to relax while the doctor is administering the injection. Take a deep breath before the injection. It really helps. It is painful no doubt. Fret not, the pain is bearable.

During the stitching procedure, I could feel the process - thread and needle going through my eyelids. Other than that, I could not feel any pain since my eyelids were anesthetized. Even after the anesthesia wear off, my eyes just felt kinda numb and stretched. That's about it. Not painful or whatsoever.

After the surgery is done, Dr Shen's assistant use a cold pack over my eyes to reduce pain and swelling.

There is definitely gonna be swelling and bruising, which will subside after a couple of days.

And, I was told that the my eyes would be more swollen the day after surgery. True story - see my super swollen eyes. My eyes looked as though I cried too much.

Do remember to take plenty of rest and avoid straining your eyes too much yea. Time off from work is much needed. A week at least. No exercise, contact lens and makeup for 10 days. I was told not to consume alcohol and seafood (especially fish) as well. Imagine the "pain" I was going through. No pain, no gain.

Pain killers and eye ointment were given. I stopped taking the pain killers from Day 3 onwards since I could not feel any pain since Day 1 actually.

A pearl-sized eye ointment is to be applied on the stitched part, either with finger tip or Q-tip. This is to treat and prevent infections.

Cold pack is to be used on a daily basis, to aid in the recovery process.

Hmm... I could not relax when Dr Shens first administer the injection on my left eye. That explains the bruising and the recovery obviously took longer as compared to my right eye.

Overall, I am super duper satisfied and happy with my new eyes :P

To be honest, people won't notice that I did double eyelid surgery unless I tell them so. They do look that natural. Kthxbye.

It has a purplish tint which color corrects my sallow complexion, making it look more radiant. There is really a difference, as seen from the photo above. The side with multi-protect UV fluid definitely looks brighter. I love using it as a makeup base since it does not feel greasy like the conventional UV products.

Just a heads up, this product range comes with a light floral scent... which I am in favor of. So far, I enjoy using this range since I can safely say that it is one of the rare few whitening product range that does not cause any adverse effects on my skin.

A Different Purplish Red Look

I'm finally back to the blogosphere after almost a month of unannounced hiatus! Hmm... no thanks to my super hectic work schedule. Anyway, 3 weeks ago... I visited my hair sponsor for a new hair color... very happy with the end results (as usual)!

As usual, here is a 'before' look of my hair. I know... I know... I am terrible at maintaining my hair condition. It was time for Dickson (my trusty hairstylist) to "save" my hair!

My first visit to Ramen Bar Suzuki, I left disappointed. The ramen there was highly raved by my gf... but I did not even get to try it =.= Apparently, the last order for the 1st half of the day is 2:30pm and we reached there slightly past the stipulated timing.

Well, I eventually had the chance to try out the ramen when I meet up with my gf some time back (on a laid back Saturday afternoon).

According to my gf, this place is very popular with the office crowd in Raffles Place. Queues are a common sight during weekdays as it sits about 30 pax.

With every order of ramen, you get free flow of (hard-boiled) eggs, seasoned beansprouts (super yummy and addictive!), sesame (for that extra fragrant), garlic chips (hmm... not a fan), fried pork lard (ooo... I didn't see that!), steamed Japanese rice (available only during lunch time) and their ultimate potato salad (too delish!!!). Oh, and the chilled genmaicha (brown rice tea) is free flow too, very refreshing and thirst-quenching.

While waiting for our ramen, we were busy indulging in the free flow beansprouts and potato salad. The seasoned beansprouts have a delightful aromatic sesame taste with a spicy kick. Fresh and crunchy with every bite... I can't help but keep eating non-stop :x

I am totally in love with their potato salad! Uber tasty and very-very filling as there are chunky meat bits, eggs in it! I got full by just eating this... oops!

At Ramen Bar Suzuki, you get to customize your ramen by choosing the type of ramen:-

Pure White Tonkotsu Ramen (Standard) - S$12.90
Cardinal Red Tonkotsu Ramen (Spicy) - S$13.90
Jet Black Tonkotsu Ramen (Mild) - S$13.90

You can also choose the noodle texture and taste, where I like mine normal... with less flavored oil coz I prefer mine to be not so oily.

If you are extremely hungry, you may wish to add the Special Topping (extra chashu, flavored egg and seaweed) at an additional of S$3.00. We did, and regretted since we ate too much beansprouts and potato salad. My bad, I took too much :x

Mine was the Pure White Tonkotsu Ramen, the most popular dish which large quantity of Tonkotsu is used as the main ingredient and carefully simmered until perfection.

Every bowl of ramen comes with the standard topping (black fungus, red ginger, spring onion) which you can opt out if you don't like 'em. See the dollop of orangey thingy at the side? That is their Special Home Made Sauce, which added a lil' spicy taste to my ramen broth. I quite like the taste. Just a third of that amount given suffices else the broth will get too salty.

As for my gf, she had the Jet Black Tonkotsu Ramen, which comes with their specialty broth with squid ink and pan-fried garlic. Topped with black miso and pork, it is an original recipe that can only be savored at Ramen Bar Suzuki. I tried the broth and it was much richer than mine. A tad salty for my liking though.

If you don't already know, Ramen Bar Suzuki's noodle is the authentic traditional Tonkotsu noodle in Japan. Their noodles are extra thin, the thinnest I've tried so far. As such, it is advisable to eat fast else they will turn soggy and of coz... less appetizing.

I must say, the broth is really rich and flavorful without being too overwhelming. The slices of belly chashu are pretty tasty as the meat texture is just right, not too tough (at least to me). I would prefer it to have slightly more fats though. heh.

Hmm... I personally don't enjoy the flavored eggs here as the yolk ain't semi-runny (almost hard-boiled, as seen in the photo). That is indeed a huge letdown. I don't think I would order their flavored eggs in future.

Cervical Cancer Awareness - Protect to Tell

Cancer comes in many forms. If you don't already know, cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer affecting women worldwide, with almost 500,000 new cases diagnosed annually. And, it is the 9th most common cancer in Singaporean women.

The tagline for this "Cervical Cancer Awareness" campaign is Protect to Tell. Yes, to spread awareness via word-of-mouth. To protect ourselves and our loved ones.

An event was specially organised at Lady M, where we (female bloggers) learnt more about cervical cancer via professional doctors.

Myth 1: Cervical cancer is not common, it can never happen to me.
The number of cervical cancer cases in Singapore has been decreasing in the last 20 years because women take part in prevention programmes. Without theses programs, cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer afecting women.

Myth 2: I am not at risk of cervical cancer as there is no such history in my family.
Almost all cases of cervical cancer occur in women with no family history of it. It is caused by a common virus – HPV. There are about 130 different types of HPV, but only 15 cause cancer.

Myth 3: Getting cervical cancer is linked to being sexually promiscuous.
HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, via sexual intercourse or contact at the genital area, and non-sexual contact, e.g. mother to infant during delivery. Women can still be infected having just one partner, as long as they are sexually active.

Myth 4: I am feeling well, I do not have HPV infection.
Cancer-causing HPV is silent. Infected individuals do not know that they are infected and may unknowingly spread the virus. Early cervical cancer has no signs or symptoms. Hence, regular screening and prevention are critical.

Myth 5: If I have a normal Pap smear, it means I will not have cervical cancer.
A pap smear is a screening test to detect any changes in cervical cells. One normal Pap smear is not enough to protect you from cervical cancer. In Singapore, all woman aged between 25 and 69 years old who ever had sex are advised to have a Pap smear done once every 3 years.

Myth 6: Pap smear program is effective, HPV vaccination is unnecessary.
Pap smear and HPV vaccination play different roles in the holistic prevention of cervical cancer. Pap smear detects changes in the cells of your cervix which may develop into cancer later. Vaccination helps prevent certain HPV infections and reduce the risk of developing cervical pre-cancer and cervical cancer.

Myth 7: I am already sexually active, so the vaccine will not work for me.
The best time to vaccinate is prior to sexual debut. However, It does not treat or protect against any HPV infection you may already have. HPV vaccine has been proven to protect thousands of women in the clinical trials who were already sexually active.

Myth 8: My daughter is too young to be vaccinated. She won't be at risk of cervical cancer at the age of 10.
Immune response is stronger when vaccinating young. Singapore has included HPV vaccination into its National Childhood Immunization Programme starting from age 9-26 years old.

Myth 9: Vaccinating adolescents will encourage sexual promiscuity.
The main aim of vaccination is to reduce the risk of cervical cancer. As such, vaccination should not encourage promiscuity.

Myth 10: I must wait for my daughter's menses before vaccination.
Vaccination will not impact the onset of the menstrual cycle. The antibodies generated by the vaccine will not interfere with adolescent development. The side effects associated with HPV vaccine are namely:- injected site pain, redness, low grade fever and fatigue.

All women who are over 18 or who are sexually active, should have a Pap test at least once a year.

Hmm... the tools used for the Pap test...

Does it hurt? They say, it depends on the doctor :s

Review: SkinBiotics Even+ Whiter

"Thanks" to my current health condition (sick for almost a week!), I finally have the chance to update my blog with review(s), event write-ups etc. And so, today's post is about my review on SkinBiotics Even+ Whiter, a breakthrough oral skin lightening formula that helps lighten skin tone, reduce blemishes and increase antioxidant defense.

And... here's my review on SkinBiotics Even+ Whiter after consuming for 6 weeks. Hmm.. my skin tone is medium fair and rather dull to begin with. So needless to say, I was very-very excited to try out this new product!

I find that the capsule is quite easy to swallow though it is not that small. Just drink plenty of water will do. Like most capsules, it does not have any weird taste (at least to me). I could not see any effect initially... until after the 7th day I think... then I can see some results. My skin looks a lil' clearer and brighter, more radiant than before. That somehow make my skin appear fairer... slightly.

To me, beauty equates to having fair skin. Naturally, I was really happy to see results within just a week. After 6 weeks, I noticed that those super irritating blemishes were kind of diminished. Well, I gotta say that SkinBiotics Even+ Whiter does work for me... so it most likely will work for you too! Never try, never know (:

Just look at the terribly dry and frizzy condition of my hair especially the brittle hair-ends... it does need S.O.S.! My appointed hairstylist, Dickson told me that my hair-ends were pretty damaged. And so, trimming them was inevitable.

Anyway, I just let him decide on the hair color and style. He started off with cutting my long fringe into bangs, which was what I had in mind. Well, great minds think alike! I also briefly mentioned to him that I want to keep my hair long and my hair color cannot be too bright due to work... blahblahblah...

Some parts of my hair were bleached before adding fun colors to them.

Ooo... I kinda like how my hair looked after bleaching. heh.

SexyLook Rice Extract Micro Inject Mask

There are 3 variants in this Micro Inject Series, namely:- Rice Extract, Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera.

I was sent the Rice Extract variant for review as my skin feels really dehydrated nowadays. Not to mention, the nasty breakouts on the sides of my forehead due to work stress... *sigh*

SexyLook Rice Extract Micro Inject Mask
Specially formulated with rice, yeast and sake kasu extract for deep moisturising, hydrating and skin reviving. It helps to boost skin's youthfulness, reduces the appearance of fine lines, keeping skin fresh and energized.

As shown, the mask sheet is incredibly thin and translucent. It does not tear easily though.

The light-weight cottony-soft mask sheet is slightly stretchy, adhering to my skin really well.

The mask sheet contains 30g of essence.

I leave it on for slightly past 15mins. As usual, I pat the skin gently after removing mask to enable the rich essence to be absorbed faster. In my opinion, the essence does feel slightly sticky initially. That being said, it absorbs into the skin easily and fast, leaving the skin feel adequately moisturized sans stickiness thereafter.

Deep whitening skincare products usually cause my skin to feel irritated but this feels otherwise. Honestly speaking, I cannot feel that there is any firming effect after using this mask. Overall, I do enjoy using this mask because it is so soothing and hydrating. Go try the mask for yourself!
