It was such a big worry for so long, and we could not even find someone who really knew what it was, much less someone who would fix it. It turned out to be a very large job, but it is a huge load off our minds. You are such good people, we know that you understand that, even though we will probably only be here a year or two, we would not have felt right with a band-aid solution. Your kindness is much appreciated.

Composed mothers dragging around their anxious sons while their little girls thoroughly search for just the right “first day of school” outfit. Back to school already?? I can already hear the distant echos of school bells ringing…oh wait, that’s the police siren behind me. Oops!!!! School zone in effect???……..DARN IT!!

After enjoying two fabulous weeks in sunny Penticton, I came back to work and was pleased to find numerous thank you letters and cards from happy customers. Here’s a few I would like to share…

Glen,

Once again I would like to congratulate you and your company. The crew that Dean sent out; Long, Vic, Thanh, Quinn and Nathan were outstanding in every aspect of the window operations at our home. Efficient, very knowledgeable, courteous and effective in cleaning up. We are again very pleased with your company and your employees.

Regards,

Brian and Arlyne of Calgary

Hi Steve,

Your crew has been and gone and if I said we were pleased with the results that would be the understatement of the year!! Jack and his crew did a fabulous job of installing the windows and I was especially impressed with Melissa’s finishing work. Thank you for arranging to have Jack do the work. He is a craftsman and a gentleman.

Cheers,

Buzz and Marg

Hi Glen,

A quick note and a big thank you to you and your crew for completing the final touch ups on the front door. A crew stopped by our house a couple of weeks ago and replaced the panel below the door in a neat and tidy fashion and we could not tell they were there other then seeing a new panel. It looks great and we are very happy with the final results. We are very happy with the windows and door which really add to the comfort and appearance of our house. Here are a couple of photos that show the transformation:

BEFORE

I mentioned to Lisa I was totally satisfied however I had one minor concern with one window. Low and behold a repair crew came to my home within a 2 hour period and repaired the issue. To me that is A-one service that many companies can only dream of giving their customers. Lux Windows is a first class company and I wouldn’t hesitate telling friends and family of your company and it’s employees. Many thanks for your excellent quality of service.”

“Hi Steve, Well, the work team of Jack & Melissa just left our house. All week, they were a nice polite, professional group who just carried on and did their work. The new windows are…what can I say…they are absolutely beautiful! We are absolutely thrilled with the bay window in the living room and kitchen. The rest of the windows are beautiful too.
Condensation is the fog that is evident when warm, moist air makes contact with a cooler surface. The same way that moisture appears on the outside of a cold glass on a hot day. If the humidity levels in your home are too high relative to cooler outdoor temperatures, condensation can form on the coldest surface in a room – often the glass of a window or door. While windows and doors are not the cause of the condensation, they are an indicator of a larger problem – humidity.

Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air. Sources include: showers, dishwashers, plants, washer/dryers, humans, pets, cooking, among others. Your home requires a certain amount of moisture, but deciding how much is important. If moisture is visible on your windows or doors, it could be happening elsewhere as well. The key is to strike the right levels of humidity; too much moisture in the air can lead to peeling paint and mildew however air that is too dry can lead to paint, hardwood and furniture cracks.

Recommendations

Open window coverings such as curtains and blinds during the day to increase airflow against the glass

Keeps blinds up; 3” above the window sill is ideal

Purchase a good quality humidity gauge from a home center.

Run ventilation fans and/or ceiling fans for longer periods of time

Remove insect screens from the windows

Ensure exhaust fans vent directly outside and not into the attic.

Older vs. Newer Windows

Condensation may be less visible on older windows, because the potential for heat exchange is greater around and through aged frames. New windows, on the other hand are more energy-efficient and airtight which increases insulation and in turn can lower your energy bills.

Learn how to measure your stylish new windows for just-as-stylish window treatments.

Here at Lux, we really love what we do. And when you spend the better part of your days looking at windows in every size, shape, colour, etc., you can develop a real interest in window treatments. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but we’ve noticed that new curtains almost always seem to go hand-in-hand with new windows. So with that in mind, I whipped up some simple directions just in case you need a little help measuring for drapes.

1.	Read magazines, blogs and visit stores to explore your options before settling on a style. This is my favourite step.
2.	Decide where the curtain rod will go. Most people measure about 6“ above the frame, but you should feel free to select your own distance. Just make sure the rod is even.
3.	Curtains usually have an extra 2” or 3” on each side plus 2” or 3” more on the bottom, depending on the style. Think about how much privacy you want (a lot in your bedrooms and bathrooms, a little less in your kitchen) and then adjust from there.
4.	Measure from the curtain rod down to the bottom, and then from one side to the other. Multiply by the number of panels and you’re done. Easy-peasy. Just make sure the person making your curtains knows the measurements already include the extra cloth you want.

Have fun choosing the right fabric and pattern for your home décor. There are some really great options available, so take your time. And don’t be afraid to leave your new windows unadorned for a little while. They’re pretty great on their own, don’t you think?
