“Who will you be?!” – October 2013

We started the year with a Celebration in the wonderful Meanwood! Stainbeck URC is a church we’ve visited regularly over the years. Through Demonstrate Days and mission weeks (like Hope ’08 and Hope ’11), we’ve been able to help the local Meanwood churches in their work reaching out with the good news about Jesus in their area. It’s always great to gather in a place with such heritage and history, especially as this generation reflect on what their calling is to the city. We had the wonderful Hannah Zafar (now Hayward) lead us in worship, with Ben sharing the talk. This launched the theme for the year, looking at some of the heroes of Scripture and the Church! It was great to see people form all over Leeds challenged to reflect on what they we’re being called to, and to engage in prayer about that calling.

Beeston Celebration – November 2013

We had the pleasure of being hosted in November by the brilliant Beeston Cell group at the Church of the Nazarene on Hunslet Hall Road. It was great to have the local cell group share a little of their story and their testimony as young people growing up in Beeston. We had two of the Beeston Cell lead the night from up front and former Horsforth cell member Dave Maud joined us to lead sung worship. It was great to see lots of faces new and old as we worshipped and enjoyed lots of mad games! Mark Hodgkinson was our speaker for the night, sharing about the ultimate hero of the bible, Jesus.

February Celebration – Bridge Street Church

So, although we are the “Leeds Youth Cell Network” our vision goes beyond just cell groups; we’re interested in the whole Church thriving in the city, and the whole Church flinging its doors open to the young people of the city. With that in mind, it was fantastic in February to be hosted by the Bridge Street youth at the Domaine Youth Works. We exist in a wonderfully diverse city and it’s always fantastic to share and see what God has being doing within another youth group or church. We had Hannah and Andy from the Horsforth cell help lead the night with the young people from Bridge Street giving testimony and leading sung worship. We also had our good friend Andy Lenton (Pastor at Bridge Street) speak on the night, sharing lots of exciting stories and the challenge to live for Jesus and tell others about him. It was hugely exciting to see 5+ make a commitment (or recommitment) to being a follower of Jesus on the night and to pray with several people who felt a particular call to share who they know Jesus to be!

#LYCNBigWK – Residential 2014

As always Feb/March was the LYCN Residential season! This year we held one big weekend, amalgamating groups from all over Leeds and further afield too! We returned to the Glenbrook Guides Centre in the Peak District for a weekend of fun, laughter, prayer, worship, mud….., and more worship! We had a fantastic team of leaders from all over the city with our wonderful cook team, headed up by Pattie and sung worship lead by Dave Maud (formerly of the Horsforth Cell). We spent the weekend reflecting on John 15: “Remain in me and I will remain in you….”. Our speaker for the weekend was Andy Wilson of the Roll the Rock project in Harrogate. It was brilliant to follow the story and the challenge brought by Andy and to see the response as the weekend went on. As always, the weekend was filled with lots of outdoor games and challenges and the “Pandas” superteam were the victors!
