Did you know the Ontario (California) Museum of History and Art has a fantastic exhibit of modern quilts. Called Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions, the exhibit has more than 60 quilts (including two of mine!).

Georgeanna Hawley, the guest curator of the exhibit, did a marvelous job gathering lots of examples of modern works.

With new interpretations of traditional blocks, fabulous colors, (lots of solid) fabrics, alternate grid forms and great explorations of negative space, the quilts represent much of what is going on with Modern Quilts. 

It is my fervent hope that Modern Quilters and Traditional Quilters will come together to celebrate not only this quilt display but also the joys we find in this Craft as well. Georgeanna brought together a fabulous collection to exemplify that we are all Quilters whether we make modern quilts, traditional quilts or (gulp!) both!

The display runs thru January 22, 2017. The Museum is just a mile or so down the road from the Ontario Convention Center where Road To California Quilt Show will be held January 19-22, 2017.  But don’t wait til Road to this exhibit!  Make it part of your holiday plans!

At first glance, these quilts seem so much the same but look closer. Each work is unique and reflects its maker. Of course, making a Jane quilt is quite a commitment. Mine took 7 years (with a few other quilts thrown in!)

But the effort is certainly worth it… Take a look…

See that Borders right in the center of the display?  Honest that was where it was when I came up to the shop !  That’s the border of my quilt peeking out at the top of the cover!  So cool!  But I don’t think that gives me bragging rights that “I had a quilt at Houston” Oh Well!

But it was still cool to see!

Hello again!  Remember me?

I’ve obviously taken some time off from this site. But there is good news… lots of good news!  

First, our second grandchild arrived on September 16!  Olive Avelyn Kunkle is adorable and sweet and growing like a weed. 

Here she is with Big Brother Elliott on the day she first came home from the hospital.  Aren’t they adorable!

I’ll share other good news in the coming weeks but for now I want to share pics I took last week at the Los Angeles County Quilt Guild Quilt Show. It was a fabulous show with a few familiar quilts!

Check out Linda’s version of our Ugly Sweater Quilt!  Too cute to be ugly!

And Betty completed a lovely 6″ Dear Jane(R) quilt. We did the blocks in class few years back.  

And there were a few Strippy Stars Quilts too… Because that is the workshop I did when I spoke for LACQG.  Apparently members actually finished their quilts and put them in the show!  I was very proud!

And there was even a wonderful version of my Grandma’s Victory Quilt (Pattern Available through Annie’s).

2016 has been a great year so far. I haven’t been keeping up my posts because my daughter, SIL and wonderful grandson have been staying with us while their home is being expanded. And we just got the most exciting news… Their family is expanding also!  A baby girl is due in September! Elliott is going to be a big brother! We are all over the moon!

So I have taken some time to concentrate on these things. I’m hoping to slowly return to posting and patterning.

Come join me if you can on Thursday night!  The Buena Park Senior Center is at 8150 Knott Avenue between La Palma and Crescent.  It will be a lot of fun!
