What better representation of light and shadows than dancing and dying?</p> <p>I keep seeing Pablo Picasso's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guernica_(painting)" title="Wikipedia: Guernica"><em>Guernica</em></a> in the <a href="http://www.lyrois.com/blog/2008/10/tableaux-on-wall.php" title="Lyrois: Tableaux on the Wall">original shape-set</a> for the mural. (<a href="http://www.lyrois.com/blog/2007/12/lyrois-story.php" title="The Lyrois-Story">Backstory</a>)</p> <p><strong>The plan</strong>: Using our beloved glass, steel, and concrete as the perfect canvas to create a dialogue between static architecture and dynamic art.</p> <p>Looking for and at <em>glass, steel, and concrete;</em> there is one artist -- architect -- who provides iconic, clean, and clear structures and patterns to pick up and play with: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Mies_van_der_Rohe"><em>Ludwig Mies van der Rohe</em></a>.</p> <p>Granite or concrete?</p> <blockquote> <q>Mies planned to use granite for an element of the entrance for the <a href="http://www.iit.edu/"><acronym title="Illinois Institute of Technology">IIT</acronym></a>. The president of the Institute suggested using less expensive concrete stating that the granite was barely visible anyway.
