Man Loses Top of His Head in Brain Operation

Reuters has this story today:

"The man sought compensation of at least 20,000 euros on the grounds that the prosthesis caused him headaches, affected his balance and made him unduly sensitivity to the weather."

But he didn't get that.

"Compensation of 3,000 euros was “appropriate and sufficient,” the court ruled. “The experts consulted by the court concluded the new skull roof was better than the original”."

UK School Uniforms to Get GPS Tracking

As if growing up in England wasn't bad enough already, with ID cards, tracking devices and hovering surveillance robots, super-square clothing company Trutex is set to embed GPS tracking into school uniforms.

"Trutex sponsored an online survey of parents and children to gauge the response to this spy-tech clothing. Unsurprisingly, parents were in favor – 59% of them said they would be interested in using satellite tracking to stalk their offspring, and almost half of the still-naive under 12s said they would wear them. Teenagers weren't so sure, but then teenagers won't do anything they're told.
Schools, too, are interested, ostensibly to reduce truancy, but more likely to catch the kids bumming a quick fag behind the bike sheds. [Note: This is British English for "borrow a cigarette"]"

Ads now run in-between every third post on all my blog's (Videos, Programs and this one).

The ads that use to run at the top of the blog and in the bottom of the sidebar have been removed. The new ads will be more targeted to the content around it instead of the whole blog.

Wii wins the console war! For now…

The Register:

"According to stats from the week ending August 5th, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold 10.32 million, Nintendo’s Wii followed with 10.10 million. They led war between the consoles and the PS3 was languishing with only 4.11 million units sold worldwide."

"New data shows that in a frame of one week, 310,000 Wii’s got new owners - Xbox 360 was sold in decent 110.000 units, while PS3 sold only 50,000 units. New numbers keep Xbox 360 in the lead with 10.43 million, Wii is now a close second with 10.41 million and PS3 remains the backmarker with 4.16 million consoles sold."

"Since the site will not be updated until next week, Wii has probably already outsold Xbox 360 and now has the lead in the console war."

Of course not everyone agrees that Nintendo will be able to sustain the success of the Wii. PS3 and 360 fanboys, er, I mean neutral industry pundits say:

“The Wii will fade,” they say, suggesting that the machine’s novel motion-controls and antiquated graphics technology will soon cause the system to wane in popularity."

And with the release of the Xbox 360 Elite in Europe this month The Xbox is on it's way back.

American Men have Less Sex

Sorry dude, but guys in other countries are having more sex with more women than you, up to 70 times more a year in fact.

I know, it doesn’t make sense. Pop culture and the Internet would have us believe that American men are the most oversexed stallions on the planet, that every girl is 20, tanked, and topless. Yet there are stats according to Men’s Health survey of 40,000 readers worldwide, men in other parts of the world have more sex.

England: Partners can’t even wait to get back to the flat. Twice as many Brits as Americans report having had sex on public transportation and in alleyways and gardens.

Australia: Almost 75 percent of Aussies have had sex on the road.

Romania: When Romanian men want a woman, they tell her.

China: Forget the 3-day rule. In China, men follow up the day after a successful date–by e-mail.

Italy: It’s no secret that good food, wine, and conversation lead to great sex.

India: Indian men know that the journey is almost always more interesting than the destination.

Netherlands: Lovers in the Netherlands know what they want–and how to ask for it. Sixty-four percent of Dutch men and women are confident asserting their needs during sex.

Greece: Americans are bombarded with sexual imagery all day, yet we’re closemouthed about sex. Not in Greece.

Happy Belated Birthday Compact Disc

"Exactly 25 years ago the world's first compact disc was produced at a Philips factory in Germany, sparking a global music revolution" More than 200 billion CD's have been sold since 17 August 1982.

Abba had the first CD to0 be produced (The Visitors).

Piet Kramer, who was a member of the optical group at Philips during the disc's development, told the BBC "When Philips teamed up with Sony to develop the CD, our first target was to win over the world for the CD. We did this by collaborating openly to agree on a new standard. For Philips, this open innovation was a new approach and it paid off."

UK ISPs tell the BBC “We’ll throttle your iPlayer unless you pay up!”

"While the network neutrality debate can sometimes feel a bit theoretical in the US, it’s a live issue in Europe, and this week it hit the pages of newspapers across the UK. What made news was a set of demands by UK ISPs (Internet Service Providers), which banded together to tell the BBC that the ISPs would start to throttle the Corporation’s new iPlayer service because it could overwhelm their networks. Unless the BBC pays up, of course. Tiscali appears to be leading the charge, though ISPs like BT and Carphone Warehouse are also said to be involved. Tiscali UK CEO Mary Turner told the Financial Times, “The Internet was not set up with a view to distributing video. We have been improving our capacity, but the bandwidth we have is not infinite. If the iPlayer really takes off, consumers accessing the Internet will get very slow service and call their ISPs to complain.” The answer, from the ISP perspective, is to start throttling bandwidth used to download content to the iPlayer “catch-up” service."

Man Smuggles Monkey on Plane

This story begs the question what security measures will be put in place to stop it happening again.

"(AXcess News) New York - A man was caught smuggling a small marmoset monkey into the U.S. on board a plane flight from Peru. The man made it into Ft. Lauderdale before boarding a flight to LaGuardia with the monkey tucked neatly underneath his hat, though the animal became restless on the plane when other passengers noticed it crawling out from underneath his hat and reported it to flight attendants.

Apparently the marmoset monkey was well behaved as he sat quietly in the man’s lap for the rest of the flight to New York.

When the flight landed in New York, police and animal control were waiting where the man was taken away for questioning and the marmoset monkey taken into custody. It is unknown whether the man will be charged with anything, though it is illegal to import animals without proper clearance.

The monkey is now in quarantine where he will remain for next month and could possibly end up a resident at local zoo. Authorities named the little monkey “Spirit”.

The monkeyshine took place on a Spirit Airlines flight, though the airline did not say whether the man would have to pay for the monkey’s ticket. Apparently the little marmoset monkey was not carrying any identification or credit cards at the time he was taken into custody in New York. The Department of Homeland Security did not say whether the monkey was being considered a possible terrorist suspect for entering the United States illegally, though Great Britain said they permit the monkey residency if he were to be sent to Guantanamo Bay as they were going to bring five British residents back who were being held there and had room on the flight."

I'm now using Blogger and Google Pages again as the HTML restrictions on Wordpress.com was to much. I use a lot of HTML and other web programming and formatting code, in my blog and site. Plus the ad restrictions, I don't make much of the ads and I thought I'd be able to do without, But the very little free space you get for free on wordpress ment I would be losing more money for hosting the blog and site.

So the reason for coming back are:

More free storage
Can use HTML
Can have ads
Better support
Free to post almost anything I want
Good things are coming to Blogger

I'm Moving

I'm moving my blog to WordPress you can read it here. I may post her some times but everything I post here will also be on WordPress. Some parts of my site will also be on wordpress as it allows static pages similar to a website.

I wrote "I have desided to make the move from Blogger to WordPress. WordPress offers some better features like static pages and password protected posts and pages. although it is limited in the HTML you can use and stuff you can put in the sidebar. The two sidebars is useful tough.

The fact you can’t have ads is bit bit of a downer as both all my Blogger blogs and Google Pages site’s have ads. This along with the limited HTML and only 50MB of free storage (post and pages do not count against that only pictures and files) could make me move back to blogger

One of the main reasons for moving to WordPress was the static pages allowing me to build a website easily as I plan to get my own domain (example.com) later this year, early next, and I find WordPress also offers better support for that. The templates are also aimed at more of a site than blog.

The posting in WordPress is also better as the web-based text editor is larger and easy to use. That extras can be brought individually and I like this as I don’t have to pay for stuff I wont us like the CSS editor and unlimited private user. I am the only who post to blog/site and I’d like to keep it that way." earlier on WordPress.

New Search

On my blog, site, programs site, programs blog and videos you will find a new search powered by Google. The search will search all of the sites/blogs I update (write for).

The search is built with Google Co-Op and runs ads for me. The results page is hosted on my site no matter where you search from. You can search from the search pages on the programs site and my site, the sidebar in my blog, programs blog, and videos and the home page for the search on Google Co-Op.

I'm maintaining the search myself so please be patient and report any bug to me.

I Got on Pownce

I got invited to Pownce though InviteShare (read about it here). Pownce is like twitter but with more to it. TechCrunch wrote "Pownce looks to be a web based sharing network with an optional desktop client (built on Adobe Air) for advanced features. Without having had the opportunity to test it, it looks to be overlapping with AllPeers and Pando, and possibly others. It also clearly has basic social networking features - see Rose’s profile page for the service here." about it

You can share a message, link, file or event and it can be done though the site or a desktop application running on Adobe AIR.

Pownce is from Kevin Rose's who also confounded Digg and Revision3.

I've started using Last.fm again. you can view my profile here. In the sidebar you can see me recently played tracks and play my radio station. I have also put an app on my Facebook to play my station and display my recently played.

Last.fm is a music service that plays music tracks based on what you play and rate. They bill themselves as a "social music revolution".

Veronica is Leaving

Today Veronica Belmont confirmed the rumours.

She Said "Leaving CNET is going to be bittersweet; it’s been a fantastic three years, and I’ve worked with some amazing people. When I first joined the company, as an audio producer (intern!), I never thought that things would progress the way they did. But then I had to go and open my big mouth on Buzz Out Loud, and they never got me to shut it again. Tom Merritt and Molly Wood are two of the smartest (and most awesome) people I know, and leaving Buzz is going to be the hardest part." in her blog today.

She also went on to present videos for CNET TV and present some other podcasts for CNET, including MP3 Insider and Crave.

Her last day at CNET is going to be Friday 20th July. From then on she will be making a daily video for the people powered search Mahalo about top searches.

I have completed my Facebook profile now. I will (try to) keep it up to date, unlike my MySpace profile which I stop using the day after I got it. Facebook make it easy to update and now they've opened the platform there's a gadget for almost everything you want.

Now anyone can now join and its free so why not. It's a good way to keep in-touch.
