The good news is we have a precompiled, binary version of the latest build for those who want to have a feel of Chrome on a Mac. Except that it hasn’t even reached an open beta, so it will be buggy. Manu from TechSutra has a low-down on what does and doesn’t work:

The truth is that it has been difficult for me as the sole writer of this blog to continue churning out posts on a constant basis. Schoolwork had been keeping me busy, along with other personal issues. Although I have not been able to reply to a lot of comments, I have read almost every one. I hope that you’ve found the posts informative and useful.

Another reason why I haven’t been able to update this blog is because my beloved MacBook was stolen. As paranoid as I am with all the security features I had installed, it still didn’t protect me against a theft of my bag with a powered off MacBook inside. Of course I’d contacted Apple Care and the local police about this, but nothing has turned up since.

That said, I now have a new aluminum MacBook that I hope to use to continue writing this blog. In addition, I was able to pick myself up an iPhone. With that I’ll be able to write about iPhone related hacks and app reviews.

I thank the readers who have supported macBound thus far; stay tuned for even more articles.

First you will need to download a few files:

1. smackleopard.command, the file that contains the sensitivity information and calls for the system event to switch spaces, and
2. AMSTracker, the command-line program that retrieves acceleration data from the Sudden Motion Sensor

Once you have downloaded the 2 files, you will need to place them in the same directory. After that, you might want to open the smackleopard.command file with TextEdit to modify the sensitivity.

To change the sensitivity find the following lines and modify both the numbers indicated. The higher the number, the harder you need to smack.

If you aren’t using the default keyboard shortcuts to switch between spaces (Control + Arrow keys), you will need to modify the file to reflect the shortcuts. I for one use the Option + Arrow keys to toggle spaces so I changed the following code

I also swapped the keystroke parameters (ASCII character 28/29) to reverse the direction that spaces switch in to my liking.

Once you have configured the smackleopard.command file, you will need to change the script’s permission so that it becomes executable. Open up Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and switch to the smackleopard.command directory using the cd command. If it is on your desktop, you would type in the following:

cd /Users/myusername/Desktop

Change permissions with the following command:

chmod +x smackleopard.command

Now assuming that both smackleopard.command and AMSTracker are in that same directory, you may now run it by typing in the following:

./smackleopard.command

To end the SmackBook system events, just press Control + C while it is running in Terminal. Watch it in action in this video, though the instructions may be a bit confusing to the inexperienced.

• Command + Shift + 3: Takes a screenshot and saves it on the desktop
• Command + Shift + 4: Allows you to select a portion of the screen and saves it on the desktop
• Command + Shift + 4, then space bar: Allows you to select a window and saves it on the desktop
• Command + Control + Shift + 3: Takes a screenshot and saves it on the clipboard
• Command + Control + Shift + 4: Allows you to select a portion of the screen and saves it on the clipboard
• Command + Control + Shift + 4, then space bar: Allows you to select a window and saves it on the clipboard

Aside from using those key combinations, OS X has its own utility for taking screenshots called Grab. It supports several features like timed capture and the ability to change the pointer type when taking the screenshot. The application is located at /Applications/Utilities/Grab.

• The computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup.

Time Machine

• Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine features (the menu extra can be enabled in Time Machine preferences). The status menu appears by default.
• Improves backup reliability when computer name contains slash or non-ASCII characters.
• Fixes an issue in which the backup disk displayed in the Finder may be out of sync with the disk chosen for Time Machine.
• Addresses issues in which some external drives are not recognized by Time Machine.

Other

• Improves general stability when running third-party applications.
