Play Wave 3/Wave 4 Backup Games on XBOX 360

Since March 2009, new “Wave 3″ games appeared, and since August 2009, new “Wave 4″ games. With the iXtreme firmware we installed, we could not boot those 2 types of games anymore. We need to update the iXtreme firmware of our XBOX 360 DVD drive!

But what exactly does “Wave” stand for?

Wave refers to a known data size contained in the video partition of XBOX 360 disks. Before March 2009, this partition simply contained a video that would play if you inserted the disk into a regular DVD player. Now, since the new Dashboard updates (NXE), those larger files are also placed in this video partition, which means that the data contained in this partition is set to change more often.

Why is this a problem? How do I know which wave my backup belongs to?

One of the security features in all iXtreme firmware (except 1.51) is a check on the size of the video partition to make sure it matches one of the known waves. The firmware will not boot any game that does not match a known wave, this is done to prevent booting bad backups and getting banned on XBOX Live. iXtreme 1.51 firmware was a quick fix release to play Wave 3 games, but we do not recommend it since it does not all the checks to prevent you from being banned from XBOX live. Instead use iXtreme 1.6, which supports Wave 3 games.

What about Wave 4 games backups? Can I play those?

iXtreme 1.6 brought the checks back for better security, but there is a workaround into iXtreme 1.6 that allows “one shot” booting of non-stealth or unknown sized discs (new waves). To do this you use the 0800 disc (activate.iso) that is included with the iXtreme 1.6 firmware. Obviously this method may not be safe for Xbox Live and should be used offline only and at your own risk.

It should not fix bad relationship between Apple and Psystar. For sale through their website, a software called Rebel EFI promises simply to help the average user to install Mac OS X on a PC including the latest and greatest Snow Leopard, provided that your PC has the compatible components. Rebel EFI arises as a small ISO image of just a few MB, which uses included Darwin Universal Boot Loader (DUBLE).

To enjoy it, you will need to burn this image onto a CD, then boot your PC from it. Rebel EFI will detect hard drives, verify that your hardware is compatible with Mac OS, then download the drivers needed to install the system, simulating the presence of EFI. The software is sold for $49.95, but you can download a trial version from the Psystar site, limited in time and the level of hardware supported.

Georges Hotz aka Geohot, the famous kid who made the first unlock for the iPhone, released today his universal jailbreak software that should work on any device with 3.0+ firmware, including the latest 3.1.2 update. The software currently only works on Windows.

Blackra1n is able to jailbreak any device that was updated via iTunes to 3.1.2 in 30 seconds!

You must own a legit iPhone 3G to use it, stay away if you need hacktivation or unlock!

iPhone 3GS 3.1 : Jailbreak is finally possible!

The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

The iPod 2G is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the iPod 2G was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the iPod 2G with 3.1 software out of the box.

WHICH DEVICE DO I HAVE?

Read the description to identify your device, once you have correctly identified your device follow the specific instructions for that device as listed below.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G(S)

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G(S) for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G(S) doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, if your device was Pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 then you can use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to update and jailbreak your phone.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.

iPod Touch 2G

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes, this will only work if you are already Pwned at 3.0 or 3.1. If you are at 3.1, downgrade to 3.0 and use redsn0w to Pwn 3.0 then you have an upgrade path using PwnageTool.

iPod Touch 3G

At this time PwnageTool does not support this device.

iPhone OS 3.1 beta 3 expiry date

Little note for all our beta testers who are running the latest version of iPhone OS 3.1 beta 3.
The expiry date is set to September 17th, and we highly doubt there will be a beta 4.
Expect a final release soon.

We might also get some news on the special event.
Apple is sending invitations for the Special Event on 9 September which will take place at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. The slogan for this Special Event is still as elusive as usual: “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it.”. But more likely they will talk about new iPods and iTunes.

SMS Delivery Reports on iPhone!

This is huge, finally a hack to enable SMS delivery reports on iPhone, eh…
The application is called iPhoneDelivery and is available through Cydia Installer.
And therefore jailbreak is required to install.

Check out the installation instructions…

1) Open Cydia
2) Add source : http://iphonedelivery.advinux.com/cydia
3) Install iPhoneDelivery (search it in Cydia)
4) Reboot iPhone
5) Go into Settings -> Messages and activate ‘Delivery report’

If you are wondering what the Flash DR option is, it’s just a way to display the delivery report message like some sort of push message. Otherwise if not selected, you will receive the delivery report as a text message.
