Share your Magic Mouse between 2 machintosh computers

Do you have 2 machintosh computers at home that you want to use with a single keyboard, single monitor and even single Magic Mouse? Well now it’s possible with this tutorial. We have build this setup and it works flawlessly.

For the setup we used the following hardware:

- 1 mac mini (running 24/7 as a home server)
- 1 Mac Pro (it’s a hackintosh inside a Mac Pro case)
- 1 Apple USB Keyboard and 1 dual-link DVI Monitor
- 1 Apple Magic Mouse (Bluetooth)
- 1 Belkin Flip KVM Switch (DVI-D 2-Port)
- 1 small Bluetooth 2.0 USB dongle

To tight the 2 mac together behind the same monitor, keyboard and mouse, you will need a Belkin Flip KVM Switch. There are different types of ports supported by the Belkin KVM depending on the model you choose. For this setup, you can choose between VGA or DVI monitor, it doesn’t matter, but one thing you will need is the KVM with USB ports for mouse and keyboard if you want to share your Magic Mouse through the KVM switch. Don’t choose the on with PS/2 ports.

We picked up the Belkin Flip DVI-D 2-Port KVM Switch. With this model you can even share your speakers between the 2 mac, fantastic!

The Belkin KVM switch setup is pretty straightforward, we won’t detail it here. Now comes the best part, hooking up the Magic Mouse! There comes in play the small Bluetooth 2.0 USB dongle. We have found a really cheap one that works with both our mac mini and our Hackintosh Pro (Mac clone). Go and buy this dongle, it’s one of the rare that works out of the box!

Apple Announces January 27th Special Event – Confirmed!

Apple has sent out the flyer above to confirm the Special Event on January 27th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10AM Pacific Time. It is widely expected that Apple will release the tablet and a new version of the iPhone OS 4.0 beta.

Play Wave 3/Wave 4 Backup Games on XBOX 360

Since March 2009, new “Wave 3″ games appeared, and since August 2009, new “Wave 4″ games. With the iXtreme firmware we installed, we could not boot those 2 types of games anymore. We need to update the iXtreme firmware of our XBOX 360 DVD drive!

But what exactly does “Wave” stand for?

Wave refers to a known data size contained in the video partition of XBOX 360 disks. Before March 2009, this partition simply contained a video that would play if you inserted the disk into a regular DVD player. Now, since the new Dashboard updates (NXE), those larger files are also placed in this video partition, which means that the data contained in this partition is set to change more often.

Why is this a problem? How do I know which wave my backup belongs to?

One of the security features in all iXtreme firmware (except 1.51) is a check on the size of the video partition to make sure it matches one of the known waves. The firmware will not boot any game that does not match a known wave, this is done to prevent booting bad backups and getting banned on XBOX Live. iXtreme 1.51 firmware was a quick fix release to play Wave 3 games, but we do not recommend it since it does not all the checks to prevent you from being banned from XBOX live. Instead use iXtreme 1.6, which supports Wave 3 games.

What about Wave 4 games backups? Can I play those?

iXtreme 1.6 brought the checks back for better security, but there is a workaround into iXtreme 1.6 that allows “one shot” booting of non-stealth or unknown sized discs (new waves). To do this you use the 0800 disc (activate.iso) that is included with the iXtreme 1.6 firmware. Obviously this method may not be safe for Xbox Live and should be used offline only and at your own risk.

If you are running Windows 7 64-bits, JungleFlasher won’t work, we recommend you use “360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 4″ instead. It’s a nice solution to flash your drive from a bootable USB pendrive with FreeDOS. It’s pretty much straightforward, you just need to follow instructions on screen. Just grab the port number of your VIA card before you start.

Rebel EFI : Install Snow Leopard on PC for dummies

It should not fix bad relationship between Apple and Psystar. For sale through their website, a software called Rebel EFI promises simply to help the average user to install Mac OS X on a PC including the latest and greatest Snow Leopard, provided that your PC has the compatible components. Rebel EFI arises as a small ISO image of just a few MB, which uses included Darwin Universal Boot Loader (DUBLE).

To enjoy it, you will need to burn this image onto a CD, then boot your PC from it. Rebel EFI will detect hard drives, verify that your hardware is compatible with Mac OS, then download the drivers needed to install the system, simulating the presence of EFI. The software is sold for $49.95, but you can download a trial version from the Psystar site, limited in time and the level of hardware supported.
