Los Angeles, California – “Demystifying iPhone & iPad App Development: A Non-Technical Overview for Decision-Makers and Idea People,” a conference session given at the Macworld 2010 Conference & Expo in San Francisco in February, is now available online as a free video screencast.

Parade of Progress Productions, a Los Angeles-based design, development & consulting firm specializing in the iPhone, announced that it is making its Macworld session freely available, both for streaming and as a download.

“Because of the wonderful response to the content, we wanted to make the information available to a much larger audience,” said Ron Diamond, principal of Parade of Progress.

The video is available in both a large format for viewing on the desktop, as well as a smaller format viewable directly on the iPhone and iPod touch.

“There’s obviously been a lot of interest in developing mobile apps for these devices – yet many companies and brands that might benefit from this sort of leverage haven’t had much experience with developing their own software,” added Diamond. “So we wanted to peel back the curtain, and demystify the entire process, from conception all the way through to deployment.

“The idea was that after an hour and a half, anyone with an interest would be much more up-to-speed on the process and what to realistically expect, and be better able to take their project to the next level.”

Diamond contends that – with the explosion of mobile devices and their accompanying multi-functional “apps” – the ability to create software that offers customers a branded experience is becoming, in effect, a new and emerging form of literacy. Before long, he speculates, customized mobile software may simply become expected, somewhat analogous to the rise of websites throughout the 1990s.

“You wouldn’t think much of a business nowadays if it didn’t have a website,” he adds.

In addition to being a primer on mobile software development, the Macworld session also includes a number of recommended third-party resources, action items and a dedicated webpage – which is also kept updated on an ongoing basis.

“With the advent of the iPad and all the innovation it promises, this is obviously a very dynamic industry which shows no signs of slowing down. And so we also wanted a way to let people know about other new and useful resources which might be helpful to them going forward,” concludes Diamond. “It’s a very exciting time.”
