I can no longer open my Downloads folder by clicking on the Dock icon. When I tried to, a question mark (in bold type) appeared in front of the icon and the folder name that appeared had "17-19-06" added; ie, it said "Downloads 17-19-06" instead of just "Downloads".

After two or three days of this, the Dock icon has now disappeared, with the aforementioned question mark appearing in its place. The same "Downloads 17-19-06" name appears when I hover the cursor near the question mark.

In both cases I am still able to access the Downloads folder via Finder.

I'm experiencing two email oddities with my recently installed Snow Leopard:

1. "Mail Activity" consistently announces the arrival of twice the actual number of incoming emails; eg, 10 when there are only 5.

I do have two registered email addresses, but then so I did before with Leopard, but without this hiccough.

2. "Mail Activity" announces from time to time the arrival of emails when none appear in any of the mailboxes; eg, the Inbox, Junk, or whatever.

It seems to coincide sometimes with me transferring emails from one mailbox to another.

In both cases 1 & 2, I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes in question, but to no avail.

Hello

I bought a used Imac (just over a year old). It is born with Lion which was on the machine when I got it.

When I tried to install the machine again I started to erase the hard drive and insert my USB key with Mountain lion that I have used on my other Macs, to create a "Clean install".

The problem comes at the error message I repeatedly get after a few minutes of installation. Note the computer is connected to the Internet, and I have tried both wired and wireless on several different networks.

Error message: "Can not download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X"

I have also tried to install Lion with the USB key and get the same error message.

Next, I tried to make "internet recovery" by pressing "cmd + alt + R". The installation starts.

However, I get the exact same error message again, after the computer has been running the installation a few hours!

PT, I have an Imac which can not be used for anything.

Apple Support had no other advice than to try on a different network, as they believed the error was due to the network!

I currently have tried 3 different wireless network and 2 wired and spent between 10 and 15 hours on the project.

Has run out of good ideas!

Experience or advice very welcome! ...........

Regards Kristian

Just signing up for Adobe CC but my late '08 MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz feels a bit old. It meets min req's, but I know it will struggle. I'm planning to replace it with a desktop for the extra power – either a Mac-Mini i7 quad, or an iMac 21'5" i5. I'm not sure which yet.

The MBP is not ready for retirement yet, so I want to spend a small amount of money to increase performance and keep portability.

Visiting the crucial site I found RAM & SSD upgrades for less than $300:
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...E1C988A5CA7304
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...D0AE92A5CA7304

I have questions though:
I've read conflicting reports about max RAM capacity for the late '08 2.4 MBP. Will my machine take 8gb?
Any thoughts on Crucial: reputation; pros/cons?
Any info on Crucial M500 240GB?

Forgive me if this is old ground. I've read lots of reviews online but each seems to be an advertorial.... I'd really appreciate a less-biased opinion.

So I see the Airport Utility 6.3 update is available! Because nothing makes a life that is a hideous montage of tragedy and shame better than a software update. Suddenly, women no longer call Human Resources when you walk into the room. Children sing sing in your praise.

I update because, I cannot tell you how many times I have used Airport Utility since that last time I configured the Airport . . . when I first got it.

I test it and get:

Now . . . despite that, the computer happily recognizes the Interwebs. In fact, the iPod updated . . . it is happy. So this may be one of those "odd things."

I simply replaced the application with a copy of the old one from a clone. This is what you get:

So . . . no panic. Tried restarting the Airport Extreme and all of that . . . does not change the situation if I update to 6.3.

There is a Firmware Update which does not actually have a link for down load.

Anyways, while probably nothing to worry about--the update did not "bork" the the AirPort connection. Perhaps someone has a similar problem.

To change an icon, I use "get info"
Then I drag the replacement icon over top of the existing icon in the get info screen.
Sometimes[rarely] I get the expected behavior: The image I want to use is now the icon associated with the file[such as the ico for an app.
That only happens with some images downloaded or saved from the internet.
Those images have ,jpg or png extensions or sometimes no visible extension.

Most of the time the image that becomes the icon is not the picture I expected such as an apple, a key or a book.
It is the letters JPEG or PNG in a white rectangle with a tiny picture that is the icon for the preview app.
I
I have attached three image files.
A screen shot of an apple image that is correct "correct icon apple.jpg". Made by dragging the file "cyanapple" onto the "get info' screen top left.
A screen shot of the incorrect image "JPEG" plus preview-like picture. Made by dragging the file "yubikey2.jpg" onto the "get info" screen<a href="http://macosx.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8400&d=1370922179" title="Name: Correct Icon apple.jpg

I hope you all saw the WWDC Keynote today. I am really juiced about 10.9 but realize the Cat names are gone (OS X Mavericks). The OS X Mavericks looks like a solid update. The one thing that got my attention was 10.9's multiple display support and the AppleTV turning an HDTV into a second display.

Plus the new Mac Pro took me back to the cube a little bit. I just hope Apple can get the heat right this time and Thunderbolt 2 externals start coming down the pipe.
