Specific File Unzip

Setting an application like Archive Utility App to automatically unzip a file downloaded to a default directory in Chrome isn't too hard. What I'm trying to do is unzip a specifically named file to a specific folder when that file is added to a directory and disregard the rest of the files downloaded to that directory.

I'm not very familiary with Automator Scripts, although normal linux command line isn't a problem. Example: I download the same file every day with a specific file name. When I download JUST that file, I need it automatically unzipped to a specific folder inside say my /dropbox folder, which in turn will automatically update all other associated folders on associated computers. So I'm looking for an "If myfile.zip, then unzip to ~/dropbox/myfiles - then delete the old mfile.zip" :)

Ideas?

Creating a link to a file on a Windows server

We run Macs on our Windows domain and I am trying to get the correct format to be able to email a URL type link to a file on the windows server so that the user can just click the link and the document opens in Word or Excel on the Mac.

I have tried the following:

smb://Server/sharename/document.doc
This will only open the "sharename" folder where you can see all the files in the folder but it will not automatically open the document.doc file.

So are there other ways to get the link to automatically open the actual file this way?

Black lines all over macbook screen?

Hi guys-

So recently my Macbook has developed black spots and lines all over the screen. I have never dropped it, but I bought it in 2007, so I know it's not the newest computer around. I really don't have the money to get it fixed by apple, nor do I have money to buy a new laptop. I linked a picture of what it looks like. Just wondering if by looking at it anyone can see what might be the problem? Someone told me it might be the graphics card, and someone else said the screen itself might be the problem? Any ideas? And is it worth it to fix??

how to zoom in while I'm using my iPhone 4s

i'm trying to find out if and how to zoom in while i'm taking a video on my iPhone 4S.... i can do it for still pictures... so my question is... can you zoom in
while taking videos and if so how do you do that?... do i need a special app for
my iPhone?... as always thank for any help..

Preview vs. Print for a .pdf file

Running OS X 10.6.8.

When I used to print a .pdf file I got the option to call Preview. Recently I changed something (I don't remember what) and now I default to a window titled Print. I'm not sure which I'll like better, but for now I'd like to default to Preview again.

Can someone tell me what switch I toggled?

Error while trying to burn a CD

I have a Power Mac G4 with OS 10.5.8, I am using Toast 6 and my burner is a Lacie/Pioneer DVD and CD Burner

The error I received while trying to burn a CD was:
The drive reported error: Sense Key=Hardware error / Sense Code
=0X44 / Internal Target Failure

I have tried a Verbatim and a Philips CD-R

Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)

emails cant send .. they did once but hours later, problem started today, what can i do? is it hotmails fault? so annoying

Cannot save to computer when connected to internet at home?

Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro laptop that I use both at work and at home. All programs were installed while at work and function fine when I am at work connected to the network. When I try to use a variety of programs (e.g., Adobe CS, MSOffice 2011, TextWrangler, TextEdit) while I am connected to the internet at home (so an off-work network), I am unable to save to disk. Basically the pinwheel starts and eventually the program crashes. If I disconnect from the internet at home, all programs and saving of files seem to work fine.

Seems like a network communication problem of some sort, but I'm not sure. A co-worker suggested it could be a firewall issue, so I turned on my firewall and still have the same problem. So strange... (and irritating!)

Please help.

OS X 10.4 Server port forwarding issues

Hi,

I need to enable os x server 10.4.x for port forwarding, currently using Xserve with dual-homed enabled, I search from Internet and found that I can edit /etc/natd.plist, after update the file, I run:

sudo systemstarter start nat

it generated natd.conf.apple file, for this steps, everything is fine, but I try to test the port forwarding, it doesn't work, even I disabled the firewall function on ServerAdmin, is there anyone succeeded for using port forwarding function on os x server? Thanks.

PDFs in Safari open with a grey

When I try to open an online PDF in safari I get a grey screen.. I upgraded Adobe etc and I'm sure its some setting but i've tried the Forums and just can't fix it...

Can I read a small 80mm CD in a Mac?

I only have two Macs. A fairly new 27 inch iMac and a 2007 2.2GHz MacBook. Both have slot load disc drives. However, I have been sent a new bit of electronics which has the instruction manual on a small 80 mm (8 cm) CD.

Is there any way I can read this on either of my Macs?

If not is there a cheap external drive around with a tray that will take it?

Entourage 2008 - error 3260!

Hi

I have the error 3260, I am unable to send mail and now receiving mail not working. I have changed port to 587 and this did not help. I have re-booted and re-booted entourage with option key. I am reluctant to delete my account as it is for my business and I cannot afford to loose any mail. I can receive and send mail (with same account info) on my Iphone and Ipad so definitely an Entourage issue. Running Mac 10.6.8. Had a look online and no definitive answer??

How to get the filename after a save command

Greetings readers,

I used the following Applescript command to save an email message (in Outlook) as a file in a special folder:

save objInSelection in myAttachmentsFolder

However, I don't know how to get the filename under which the message was saved. Any idea how?

Normally, the filename is the message subject after translating some characters (such as : to - ) and adding a suffix such as [1] if the original filename already exists. So for example, the first time a message titled "Re: WTC" was saved, its filename was "Re- WTC.eml". The second time it was "Re- WTC[1].eml".

So, the question is: how can I get the name of the file just saved?

Automating Terminal commands

I apologize in advance if this is not the correct forum.

I manually run the following terminal line below to open multiple versions of Skype, swapping user two for user3 each subsequent time it's run to open a new version.

su user2 -c "/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype && exit"

I want to use automator to do this for me automatically. Can someone help with this? Thanks.
