The SMS back-end has now been patched up to work smoothly with iOS 5 and older devices and the SMS user interface has been greatly improved. In addition to general aesthetic improvements, you can also view and export images sent thru SMS and the "Emoji" symbols are displayed properly. If you want to save an entire conversation, we've added two more export options: SMS to .csv and SMS to .rtf. Saving to an rtf file includes the pictures and attachments that were sent in the SMS.

A Drove of Recent Updates

In the past few weeks we've seen Apple release iTunes 10.5, iOS 5 and the new iPhone 4S. Not long before those updates, they also released OS X 10.7, Lion. So basically, they changed everything. Not surprisingly, these changes put a few kinks in some of our programs while we scrambled to update them. Now, we're happy to report, after tons of updates across the board, everything is back on track and all of our programs should now work with Apple's recent drove of updates.

With that said, please make sure you're using the most recent version of our programs. All of our programs have auto-updaters built-in, but looking at the crash reports that have been submitted lately, it seems some of you may be skipping these updates and thus stuck using a version that is incompatible with Apple's recent changes. Please make sure you're up to date. If you're not sure, then please redownload the program from our webpage and reinstall it.

Here is the list of our programs for which our recent updates are most important.

For Mac-

Phone to Mac - 4.3.1.1

Phone Disk - 1.8.7.3

iExplorer - 2.2.1.4

For Windows-

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Several Programs Logos and Names Have Been Changed

Today, for legal reasons, we are making several major updates to many of our programs. The changes can be summarized as follows, and we've also posted an official press release here with more information about these changes.

iPhone Explorer is being renamed to "iExplorer."

The logo for what is now called "iExplorer" has been updated.

The logos for Pod to PC and Pod to Mac have been updated.

The logo for Phone Disk has been updated.

meta-iPod is being renamed to "meta-Tunes."

The logo for what is now called "meta-Tunes" has been updated.

iPhone Explorer, now iExplorer, typically sees nearly 10,000 vista daily and we really don't want to lose this following due to the confusion over a name change. Furthermore, we now need to climb the Google rankings with the term "iExplorer," and need your help to do this. So bloggers, Facebook users, Google+ users, website owners, and those who tweet - please help spread the word our the name change.

Thank you all very much for your support. Please e-mail any questions or concerns with regards to these changes to chrisdevor (at) macroplant (dot) com.

Pod to Mac - 4.2.2.0

Pod to Mac now shares the exact same, finely tuned connection backend as iPhone Explorer (Mac) and Phone Disk (Mac). If you've had any issues before related to copying files or connecting an iPhone/touch/Pad, this update should clear it up. Plus whatever future updates we make to that connection code, will show up quickly and seamlessly in all three Mac apps.

Safari for Windows Installs a Bad DLL

The Windows versions of iPhone Explorer and Phone Disk rely upon a few DLLs created by Apple and typically installed with iTunes. A recent update to Safari for Windows installs a new CoreFoundation.dll which, when certain functions are called by iPhone Explorer or Phone Disk, result in a crash as a result of a debugging user-breakpoint left in by the developers at Apple. Because this DLL is shared between various other Apple programs, it's very difficult to revert back to the previous verion of the DLL.

If you've already installed the Safari update, then iPhone Explorer and Phone Disk aren't going to be able to access the app directories until Apple gets around to updating that DLL again. If you haven't yet installed the updated Safari for Windows, than we recommend waiting a couple months for the next version which will hopefully be more stable.

Adapter (Mac) 1.0 is here!!!!!!!!!

We've spent a large part of the last 6 months overhauling Adapter (Mac) to finally take it out of beta. Building a conversion utility that is user friendly, powerful and loaded with features has been one of the biggest challenges for us in the development of Adapter. Between the last release of Adapter (Mac) and this one, we've completely overhauled the user interface about three times and rewrote the vast majority of the back-end code. And now, today, we are happy to introduce to you the ultimate image, audio and video converter.

We've added many new features including time cropping, a crash reporter, custom resolution settings, custom output quailty settings but the crown jewel is the new flash video downloader. Adapter now comes with a an easy to use web browser and anytime it sees a flash video or audio file, it automatically downloads it. You can then right-click the flash file and send it for conversion to an audio or video file which can then be imported to iTunes or sent elsewhere.

This new update of Adapter is loaded with new features and functionality and we believe that it may now well be the best media converter available for Mac. But, with that said, we're not stopping yet so keep checking for updates and keep sending us feedback!

(And, yea. It's still 100% freeware).

Pod to Mac 4.2.0.5

Pod to Mac 4.2 is a major update from the previous version of Pod to Mac and includes:
<lu>

A huge reworking of the Pod to Mac back-end code.

Significant UI updates including new icons, buttons, status screen, layout and cholor scheme.

Context menus (or right-click menus) have been added to the media tab (music and videos) and also to the photo tab. These context menus provide additional track and playlist transfer options. The photos context menu allows users to easily copy files to the clip board or open them with preview.

You can now disable iTunes track matching in the preferences menu.

File access to the iOS device is now bottlenecked and now Pod to Mac will only access one file at a time on an iOS device. This improves the stability of the program for some users.

And lots of little things here and there...

In this new 2.0.0 version, we've now added a feature to detect and remove playlist-entry type duplicates, so you're playlists will be sparkling clean once you've quickly run them thru Dupe Away.

The lifehacker.com stress test

Lifehacker.com is great. They're write interesting stuff, they've got a huge following and they're one of the most respected blogs in the world . Around April last year, with an article about Pod to Mac they helped us discovered that when web hosting companies say "unlimited file transfer," what they mean to say is "unlimited file transfer, just not all at once." With the visitors sent from that article, combined with our steadily growing fan base, our servers were pushed beyond "unlimited." Shortly thereafter, we upgraded to a pricey new Virtual Private Server (VPS) and this VPS handled the punches beautifully for over a year.

Last Tuesday LH and the Phone Disk fans caught our servers on fire, again. We had over 40,000 visitors, 6 hours of downtime and a bottle of Champaign to celebrate. We love our visitors and don't want to keep them waiting so this weekend we upgraded our servers again. Having effectively doubled our site's capacity (and server expenses), we're hoping that this upgrade will hold steady for the next year.

With that said, behind the scenes we're quietly working crazy hours on two awesome new programs and hopefully they will light up our servers like never seen before. Combined, we've already spent over 10,000 hours working on these secrete projects. Now we're wrapping things up so be ready in mid-December and Q1 2011 for the release of these awesome new apps.

iPhone Explorer - Mac Version 2.0

Version 2.0 of the Mac version of iPhone Explorer is now out. Big news: you can now access the folders where app data is stored. For example, if you drop a file that GoodReader supports into it's "Documents" folder using iPhone Explorer, it will be available in the app to view. Most third party app folders can be accessed.
Enjoy!

iPhone Explorer 2 has arrived!

We are excited to annouce iPhone Explorer 2.0 for Windows! Major changes include:
(1) you can now access app directories (including the system files of apps)
(2) complete overhaul of UI
(3) multiple device connectivity is now allowed

This is hugely awesome for many reasons including the fact that you can now transfer files extremely quickly via USB directly into and from your apps without using iTunes. Furthermore, for the more curious, have you ever wanted to customize a video game? Well, now you can! For example, we opened up the game Field Runners, browsed around for a while and made some changes. Now I can play a level of field runners that looks like my backyard and the enemies look like my cat :-)
And btw, it's still freeware!

Dupe Away Initial Release!!

When you spend a lot of time testing out iPod transfer software, or if you're trying to combine two music collections you can end up with with a pretty disorganized iTunes Library. When the clutter of music reaches hundreds, or thousands, of dupes, you need a program to help get rid of it - and that's what Dupe Away is. Dupe away is a small, single purpose program; it seeks and destroys duplicate tracks from iTunes.

In the free download version of it users get a 100% free analysis of their library to see if they have any duplicates or tracks without locations. After the analysis, the instant delete feature can be unlocked for $7.99.

Dupe away is available for Mac OSX 10.5 and 10.6. It requires iTunes.

Pod to Mac - 3.204

We have been working hard on the Pod to Mac parser algorithm for the photo database. As a comment, I would like to state that technically, hacking this database is a lot tougher than the music database. In contrast to the music databases, the picture database is designed such that not only does every iPod have a unique image format, but there are even multiple image formats for the same iPod models depending on which firmware you are using.

With this release of Pod to Mac we have knocked out more bugs from the photo database parser. Additionally we streamlined the loading of the iTunes Music Library.xml file which has increased program load times by roughly 10 seconds for every 1,000 tracks you have in iTunes.

Pod to Mac 3.202

Our previous Pod to Mac 3.201 release last week was essentially a complete rewrite of the software to make the software more scalable and polished in the long run. That 3.201 release brought with in many new features and much redesigned interface, but as with all new software there were a few new notable bugs. Our focus with this latest 3.202 release was to resolve those issues and refine the program. The most notable new feature to Pod to Mac is the picture transfer which currently supports iPhones and iTouches (support for the other models is coming soon). We have also added a greatly expanded preferences menu, category playlists, multiple device support, iPod device info display, and sortable columns and much more.

iPhone Apps in the "App Store" with USB transfer will very soon become extinct

A few short months ago we set out on a mission to bring USB transfer to the iPhone apps in the App Store. Having brought USB transfer support to dozens of apps, and then watching many of these apps top the charts throughout the App Store, it is clear that we succeeded. It is now with great sadness and disappointment that I bring you the news that our USB transfer support for these App Store apps will soon end. We have recently discovered that our current means by which we enable iPhone apps to gain USB access puts these apps in violation of the App Store rules. To avoid the boot, over the course of the next several days, App Store apps with USB access may release updates that remove this privilege. If you currently own an app with USB transfer, and USB transfer is important to you, then we strongly suggest that you use caution the next time that you see an update available for that app. If you do not currently own an app with USB access, now would be a great time to consider buying one of these as they may soon make your iPhone a collector's item. Additionally, in the upcoming days we will be modifying our website iphone-explorer.com to reflect these changes and, as such, the app integration pages will be disappearing. Also, for clarity, myPod Apps does not have any programs itself in the App Store so all of our software (including iPhone Explorer) will remain essentially unchanged. If you are iPhone App developer who just submitted an update, and you see a orange/yellow dot next to your app's status, with the message "Waiting for Export Compliance" this may be a result of the newly apparently stance on USB transfer. If you have any other general or specific questions pertaining to this issue please feel free to contact us at mypodapps@gmail.com.

Congrats to Comic Zeal!

Comic Zeal by Bitolithic made it into the "What's Hot" listing on the front page of iTunes! With 80,000 apps and Good Reader being listed last week as "What's Hot"... Does this pattern suggest something about the value of adding USB transfer into an app?

iPhone Explorer App Integration Pages

With the release of the updated version of iPhone Explorer comes
the creation of our new app integration pages.

			 While
there are currently 8 apps listed, more are coming and some
of the apps themselves still require updating on behalf of the
iPhone App developers before they can fully take advantage of the
USB support. It takes about 2 weeks before updates are approved
for apps in the App store, so for some of these apps it may be 2-3
weeks before they are fully USB compatible.

To use USB syncing with an app in iPhone Explorer, go the the "Change Root" menu, then
select "Edit" next to a custom root that you want to change.

iPhone Explorer PC, Mac and Website updates

The iPhone Explorer updates which introduce app "syncing" are finally here for both Mac and PC. The version number issue (discussed in the last two posts) has finally been resolved, so this time the Windows progam when downloaded will be the updated version.
If you use "Black Rain" to jailbreak your iPhones with 3.1 firmware - please be patient. Apparently you do will not yet have "real root" access in iPhone Explorer with this update. We hope to have this resolved soon.
The site and logos have also been 100% redesigned. Please send feedback to mypodapps@gmail.com.

Track preview features have been added. "Continuous Play" and "Shuffle" modes are now available. Additionally, the 'Now Playing' title in the top center of the App can be clicked to see which playlist is being played. If you have any difficulties with the track previews not functioning properly, then check your Apple's System Preferences for Perian (an application that interacts with quicktime).
Dynamic RSS Added to Homepage

The RSS feed has now been dynamically linked to the Pod to PC home page. During the rest of the week, equivilent updates on the other myPod Apps pages will be made too.
Why is this important? It will take me significantly less time to post an updated and there for I can spend more time writing apps.

itDJ (Mac) 0.9.5 (Beta-Release)

Big addition: Playback Recorder. It's under Tools in the menu bar. Set the file name, choose a sample rate, and hit record. You can also have it automatically stop after a given number of minutes, or choose to have it split into multiple files. Currently supports wav, aac, ogg, and flac (mp3, m4a, etc. coming soon).

About a 20% reduction in CPU usage.

"Beat" button. If you aren't happy with the automatically detected beat marks for a track, then start it playing. Tap the Beat button to each beat (quarter notes, eighth notes, whatever works for you), and the whole track's beats will be updated to match.

Some visual improvements.

Pan knob (next to the hi/mid/lo knobs).

Several bugs fixed, including a few crash bugs.

itDJ (Mac) 0.9.4 (Beta-Release)

Another step towards itDJ 1.0.
Big addition here: Snippit Maker!

Go to Tools->Snippit Maker. Drag tracks from your library, set effects, the select and grab a piece (or two or 100). Play around with the options. When you're done, you can save as a WAV, OGG, or FLAC (MP3 etc. support coming soon).
By the way, this is one of those things that will see many, many improvements over time, both before and after 1.0, so send your comments our way.

Also, beat positions are saved after the first time, so tracks will finish reloading much faster.
