With uni returning next week and the iPhone 3G being the device to have (although I am sure Super Monkey Ball won't help in the procrastination department!), I thought I would share this quick tip I used with my first generation iPhone during last semester. Particularly during the first few weeks of classes, having quick access to your timetable (and usually also a map if your campus is anywhere near the size of UQ!) is essential. I always hated looking like a dork digging around in my bag for it, so came up with a better solution...

*Melbourne MacTalk Meet - Friday 18th July - TODAY*

Mark it in iCal people - the long fabled Melbourne MT meet is going down on the 18th of July from 5.30pm onwards at the Oxford Scholar Hotel (http://www.oxfordscholar.com.au/).

There will be some excellent prizes, from sponsors STM Bags (http://www.stmbags.com.au/), iWorld Australia (http://www.iworldaustralia.com.au/) and Try and Byte (http://www.tryandbyte.com.au/). The Sydney meet had around 40-50 people turn up, so I'm sure we can better that, as Melbourne is a much better city

*Where?* Oxford Scholar Hotel, 427 Swanston Street, Melbourne 3000 (opposite RMIT Uni) (google map link (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=oxford+scholar+melbourne&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.809233,144.963119&spn=0.007442,0.009012&z=17&iwloc=A))
*When?* Friday 18th July, from 5.30PM until whenever everyone's had enough to eat and drink.
*What to Bring?* Yourself and money for drinks & food. Wi-fi is around, but I won't have my laptop with me (and maybe you shouldn't either, but it's up to you if you want to be stuck in laptop corner on your own)

*Let us know if you're coming!*

Comparison between MobileMe, Yahoo, Exchange 2007 and Kerio Mail Server

*Small Review Round-Up*
STM Rogue Backpack, Speck SeeThru case for iPod Touch, DLO Cables Galore for iPod/iPhone

I wrote a painful review on a *bunch of cables from DLO* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/20/52106-dlo-cables-galore-ipod-iphone.html) (fine cables, but man, reviewing cables is no fun at all). I had a more pleasurable time reviewing the wonderful *STM Rogue backpack (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/20/53646-stm-rogue-backpack-review.html)*. Forum member tcn33 looked at the* Speck SeeThru case* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/20/52367-speck-seethru-case-ipod-touch.html) for iPod Touch and he liked it.

This week we get to hear from arkenstone of MacTalk podcast fame and the lovely lexiistardustx, who doesn't want us to know about her crush on Steve! Thanks to both members for taking the time to complete the questions and give an insight into who they are.

Thanks to scratchproofcovers.com.au
*

You've all got your iPhones and some of you are after ways to protect them. One of the least intrusive ways is to grab a BodyGuardz protective film. Designed to custom fit each particular device, these protectors are made from the same material that is used to protect the front of automobiles from stones and other abrasive elements. Tough and durable, you can be assured that your device is protected by BodyGuardz.

Thanks to *scratchproofcovers.com.au (http://scratchproofcovers.com.au)*, you can win one of ten iPhone 3G BodyGuardz! *All you need to do is post a picture in this thread of your most damaged electronic device.* Be it a smashed iBook, an iPhone with a huge scratch, a flaming computer or a melted power supply. Mac or PC (we love seeing totally demolished PCs!).

We will let the competition run until 11.59PM - 27th of July. Entries submitted before that date will then be judged by the MacTalk moderation team to find the top 10 most un-looked after piece of electronics. The winners will be contacted via forum PM for their address to ship their prize of an iPhone 3G BodyGuardz to. The winning images are totally at the discretion of the MacTalk moderation team as to which ones we find the most appealing.

*Enter now, I can't wait to see all the demolished electronics! (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/19/53390-win-iphone-3g-bodyguardz-protective-film.html)

The iPhone is out here in Australia, but that doesn't mean that's the end of MacTalk's love of the iPhone. There is still some very active discussion going on in our iPhone forum right now. Here are some of the main threads people seem to be chatting in:

Keeping track of iPhone availability (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/52957-places-still-have-iphones-left-post-here.html))
Things we like about the iPhone (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/52975-what-do-you-think-your-iphone-3g-let-us-know.html)) and things we dislike about the iPhone (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/53156-iphone-complaints-things-not-quite-right.html))
iPhone wallpapers (link (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/26979-iphone-wallpaper-post-your-favourites.html)) and ringtones (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/53333-ringtones-iphone-share-your-favourites.html))
Help selecting an iPhone plan (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/52708-i-am-unsure-plan-go-my-iphone-help-me-mactalk.html))
iPhone accessories - what we're buying (*link* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/53007-iphone-accessories-what-you-buying.html))

We have also set up a new forum for discussion on the App Store and the wonderful iPhone applications coming out. So if you have an app you really like, let us know about it. Same goes if you find a really craptacular app too. If you're a developer, be sure to visit also and get some tip for your apps (there's loads of ideas), or feedback on current things you are working on from other iPhone developers. *Visit the new forum now! (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/iphone-software-app-store/)*

*Don't forget our special iPhone formatted version of the forums* (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/11/49512-mactalk-iphone-skin-mactalk-mobi.html) that is super useful. Now you can always catch up on forum threads no-matter where you are! Let us know if you have any feedback on it, as it's something new and not widely used on other forums.

Also, another reminder for those on the forums who don't want to see any iPhone topics, can remove the iPhone forum from forum searches and the recent topics side-bar. *Instructions are in this thread.
