It’s just a little blurry.

So I had no idea what to do with the cabbage that came with our CSA box.  I was going to do coleslaw, but it’s been such a cool summer that I’ve been having a taste for some soup.  So I found this great recipe for carrot, potato, and cabbage soup.  It was quite yummy.  It was very light and DH pronounced it very good.

I also was at a loss for what to do with some young turnips when my friend Sara who is sharing the CSA box with us mentioned the turnip apple salad.  Let’s just say this was very yummy and was gone in a flash.

I’ve been wanting this subscription for a long time, but I wanted all the back issues as well.  I’m so happy to get them all.  I’m going to be pouring over them before the weaving class starts.

I also got a few more Lamy’s (oh a pink one is on it’s way as well) and some new ink.

Unfortunately, I made a rookie mistake with my first Lamy this week by not clicking in the converter all the way and ended up wearing Poussiere De Lune all over my pants on Wednesday at work.  How embarrassing!  It was nice splotches of moon dust.  I took a picture, but before I could get it uploaded to Flickr my laptop died.  Not to worry though as it’s under warranty and will have nice new bits compliments of Dell.   The ink mostly washed out.  There is still a bit of a faint spot, but not too bad.  I’m sure the pants are still good enough for work.

Anyway, not to be daunted by a little spilled ink, I’m trying out some lovely new colors.  I haven’t ventured out to other ink brands yet, but I suspect I will.  I saw one person write on Fountain Pen Network that the J. Herbin inks were decidedly vintage and I would have to agree.  I love vintage.  I’m currently writing with the top three in the picture.

My knitting mojo seems to be funkified this week.  I’m coming down off a high of finishing some big projects.  I’ve also got another sock near completion.  So I was thinking I would warp the loom this weekend, but I think I need to cast on a few more projects and get my wheel out, I’ve got a marathon of shows and movies to watch to keep me busy.

So last night I turned my head for one minute and the bunny must’ve popped out.  Coco spotted it and picked it up, which in turn caused it to do little bunny screaming.  Yes, bunnies can scream and I’ve heard it before when someone I know gently moved one out of her garden once.  Don’t worry – no bunny was harmed.

I went running out there cussing like a fool – the neighbors were out… and I’m sure well entertained.  Coco obviously was stunned and was just standing where she dropped her and was wagging her tail.  Both the little poodles wanted her to play.  Well I shooed them out and the bunny hopped away.  I checked on here – she’s very distinctive with the one white streak of fur down her forehead – and she is just fine.  No problems.  I saw her again today and she is still fine – no worries.

Anyway this picture was taken right after this bunny had an Oh Sh*t! moment.   Poor thing.

My friend Julie asked in the last post and they are about teacup size – as they could fit in a teacup.

So far, I can only see two, but I think there may be more.  I hope so because I thought I saw at least 3 little pink bodies when they were born.  However, it could’ve only been two.

This is bunny two.  All of the previous were bunny one.  Bunny two was better hidden.

I checked on the hole today and noticed it was opened and appeared to be empty.  This is when I realized they were out and about.  At first I wouldn’t have noticed them, but then I saw stealthy hopping and crouching here and there.  The dogs didn’t seem to notice until I made a fuss and got the camera out.

I did a warping of cotton sock yarn on my new warping board.  I’m going to try this as a skinny scarf.  We’ll see. It’s a 2.5 yard warp.

I worked on my La Novia some more and it’s growing.  I also picked up my portion of the veggie share box, which I think I mentioned has been stretching my culinary skills.  Well I have to report, I like kale.  I had thought about titling this post – How to hide kale in plain sight? – but went with the simpler title.

I didn’t know I like it because it one of the veggies I never tried and you just don’t see kale on too many menus.  However, it was staring at me, so I decided I would put it on some pizza.  I quickly did a Google search to see if that would be fine and apparently it is not only fine, but I’m here to report tasty.  I have a little left over for my quesadilla quick meal this week.  In my search I found this fun Kale blog.  Not sure I could do 365-days of kale, but I would definitely pick this up in the future.  BTW, who says blogs are dead?  So not dead – that was very useful info on that blog.  Maybe 2004, but definitely not dead.

It rained the first half of the day, but I finally got out for my Saturday Sky picture when it started to clear up.

I’d probably be done a little faster, but I’ve been browsing the web looking at an old-timey past-time.  Letter writing.  I miss getting actual mail.  Anyway I found this cool site – The Letter’s Writer’s Alliance.  I joined.  So now add letter writing to some of my favorite hobbies as well.

Oh and if your interested I also got my hair re-styled.  I kinda like this back for the summer.

They said something about rain maybe later.  At least it’s not so hot you melt just walking outside.  I hate that.  I would rather have it on the cooler side than hotter any day.  It’s the wool lover in me.

So we’re on week two of the CSA box and we are getting a lot of greens.  I think this has been a good experience for me because I’m stretching myself to use them.  This week we had tatsoi and last week I had some choi left over.  Well, I found this recipe on line and have to say I was pleasantly surprised how they mixed so well together.  I used sesame seed oil, garlic scrapes from the box, the greens, and ginger.  I then at the end splashed a little balsamic vinegar and a splash of soy sauce for flavor.  Yum.  Quick and easy too.

Wednesday I came home to a commotion.  Coco wanted out every two minutes.  Well we followed he over to the area and found baby bunnies and I mean just born bunnies.  This picture was taken the next day when the mother obviously returned during the night and plucked more fur to put over them.  Now I’m not sure if they are still there or not as it’s really covered over now.  I’m not sure she could move them, but I just can’t tell.  Well, we’ll find out in two weeks if they are out nibbling the grass around.

Just need to add the buttons, but I’m in no hurry since it’s going to be 90-degrees for the next few days.  As soon it cools down, I’ll get a nice finished picture.  I like these buttons.  They match the triangle in the gull lace pattern.

I’m dreaming of my next sweater.  Notre Dame De Grace… of course I still want to finish spinning for Tasha’s Shawl… so much crafting, so little time.

I followed this pattern and everything seemed to be going well, but then I decided I really wanted to use the elastic band, so how could I do that… I thought maybe a large button hole on the back.

Hmmm…. well that didn’t go so well, but it’s not so bad not to use it.  When I was putting the button hole in, I thought this would be so much simpler with knitting.  Cast off and then cast on – instant button hole.

One of my new found loves is the fountain pen.  I bought my first fountain pen and ink this past week.  This Poussiere de Lune translates to Moon Dust.  I love it and it’s an extra-fine nib Lamy.  Writing with it is just a joy.  It makes me want to write.  Of course I’m coveting their new special edition pink Lamy.

So we got our first delivery of the CSA this week and we got arugula.  Lots of arugula.  I made a pesto last night, which turned out just ok.

DH however fixed it up tonight with some chicken and put some more tasty things with it and it was much more mild tonight.  Last night it was way too bitey.

Too hot for my tastes.  I used to love summer, but not so much anymore.  I end up hibernating in the house, just as much as in the winter, but I can’t wear my knits.  There are somethings I do love about summer though… hummingbirds and butterflies, fresh tasty veggies and fruits… I know there are others, but these are the things that pop out.
