{My Projects} It's a Boy!

We welcomed our 4th son into our family! We didn't know if it would be a boy or a girl, but for the previous few weeks I felt that it was a boy and had already picked the name Samuel. I'll call him Sammy, of course.

He's sweet as can be!

It will be a couple more weeks before I feel like I can take on custom sewing orders. However, there are quite a few items listed for sale on my Etsy shop that are ready made and can be shipped out any time.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers! I am so thankful it was a safe delivery and that little Sammy is thriving. :)

Recently Sold on Etsy: Maternity Dress

I just sold this dress on Etsy to Molly C. I altered a Simplicity pattern (non-maternity) to have a higher waistline and a fuller front skirt. I made it from some pretty sweet polyester.

I posed for this picture back when I was 24 weeks along. Boy, did I get much bigger by the time I gave birth!!

{My Projects} New Purse!

I really thought I'd have the baby early (my due date is in 2 days) and so, since I was wrong, I thought I'd better get some new projects going! I'm not used to being without sewing orders this long. :)

Time for a new design, too!

This is a medium-sized purse with a curved bottom and pleated top. Medium-length straps make for shoulder or hand carrying.

I really liked the idea of having some pleats. They're not as noticeable with a busy print, but adds some subtle class and detail.

I close this one with a magnetic snap. There is also a cell phone pocket.

Anna B. saw the listing for a Cub Scout Tote on my Etsy shop and requested a customized version that would be large enough for a 2" binder for her den meetings.

The new Den Leader Tote also has a double pocket for pens and cell phone. The sturdy straps are also longer to make toting more comfortable for an adult.

{My Projects} Diaper Bag and Accessories

With a new baby coming, I was needing a new diaper bag and all the works. I chose this fun dotted fabric from The French Knot Quilt Shop here in town. I think it is Moda, but now I can't remember.

There are pockets inside and out. A padded long strap will make this bag more comfortable to carry. And a long strip of velcro closes it up.

There is also a matching Diaper Pocket, to keep all the diapers, wipes, and diaper cream together in one pouch.

I also made a matching vinyl-covered diaper changing mat.

Lastly, I made a matching Nursing Cover! Boning at the neckline keeps it rounded out to make it easier to see the baby and also let some air in.

There is a pocket (seen in the left corner) for a pacifier or nursing pads.

The coolest feature is the removable drool wipes! I made 4 flannel drool wipes that velcro on and off. This way I can wipe the baby's face or nose and throw the wipe into the wash, instead of wearing out the whole nursing cover with frequent washing. I'm very excited about this idea!

Nursing covers are tricky to photograph without a model! :)

I'm feeling much more prepared to greet this baby now that the Diaper Bag set is all done!

{My Projects} Baby Buntings

Babies born during the winter need a special sort of wrap ... a bunting! It's like a sleeping bag for babies. I made the blue one for a friend's baby shower and the green one for my soon-to-arrive baby (I'm 38 weeks!).

And with leftover material I made 2 flannel "diaper shirts," as the pattern calls them. We're having an incredibly mild winter, but it's always good to have layers on hand for when we do get some colder days!

{My Projects} Getting Ready for the Baby!

I'm due with my 4th child in just one month! It's hard to believe in some ways. But, I know these last few weeks will go fast, so I have gotten myself in gear to make some warm baby clothes. My 3 boys were all summer babies, so this one needs something warmer to wear. We're also being difficult and choosing to wait until the birth to discover if we'll have a 4th son or a 1st daughter! I'm very excited to meet him/her!

I made 3 flannel pants in solid unisex colors. I can embellish them with something cute when he/she is here.

I also made a little hood and booties with faux sheepskin. The wooly insides should be nice and warm!

Lastly, I also made a white flannel hat and matching booties. Babies are fun to sew for!

I have much, much more to do. I'll post them when I'm done!

This was my final Christmas order. What a wonderfully busy sewing season it was! Kathy C. ordered a Jingle Bell Tag Ball in bold colors, using minky dots fabric as well as fleece and flannel, for her baby.

For her daughter she requested a Superhero Cape with a fairy applique instead of an initial. That was a lot of fun to create.

And for her son she requested a Superhero Cape with an ankylosaurus applique. I found the perfect batik fabrics for these appliques at The French Knot Quilt Shop!
