Stop sales are now issued in beginning of December (e.g. 2011, 2010) as opposite to beginning of November (e.g. 2007,2008). The wind was blowing from southwest bringing a lot of rain to the south side of the island. Air temperature is still around 23&ordm;C and humidity has been really high. Yesterday afternoon the wind shifted to Northeast and the heavy rains affected most of the North coast of Madeira. This means it is going on the right way and we believe that in a few years it might get really big, as the BirdFair, for example. Though, to attract as much visitors as the BirdFair does, the WhaleFest should be promoted all around Brighton as we believe this year the general public passing by Hilton Metropole Hotel did not know about the event...</p> <p>The time spent at the WhaleFest was great! From Thursday to Saturday the wind will be NE which means that where our boat "Oceanodroma" is based, in Quinta do Lorde marina, on the East tip of Madeira, the wind will be strong though Funchal may get protected from the mountains. So, this post does not intend to alarm you but to make you aware that if during your stay in Madeira or within 14 days after returning home, you feel any of the dengue symptoms (sudden fever, headache, muscle and joint pains or rash) you should immediately go to the doctor and tell him it might be dengue fever.<p /> For any of the symptoms described above you should not take acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) or any other anti-inflammatory drugs (Ibuprofen), though you may take Paracetamol to control the fever and pains until you get to the doctor.<p /> The <em>Aedes aegypti</em> mosquito is easily identified by its blackish body with white markings on legs and part of the body. They like indoor and shady areas and normally bite between dawn and evening.<p /> In Madeira the <em>Aedes aegypti</em> mosquitos are only found in lower altitudes of Santa Cruz, Funchal and C&acirc;mara de Lobos which are places not regularly visited on Wind Birds tours. We already collected some interesting fish which are not common to coastal areas but more typical of deep offshore waters.</p> <p>As a celebration of the 13th year of the Marine Biology Station, Catarina &amp; Hugo were invited to an informal dinner where each guest should take a dish or dessert. We made a chocolate cake and decorated it as a fish!
