Deskontop is a new type of virtual desktop manager with just one feature- access your desktop icons with just a single click. If you are working on a lot of windows, then minimizing the windows and accessing the desktop can be an interrupting task. Deskontop is here to remove that small interruption. This small software will sit in your system tray and will let you view your desktop files and icons regardless of which window is currently open.

The application will sit in the system tray as a small icon. Right Click on the icon will display a small window like a desktop displaying all your desktop files. Left click will display the desktop icons in an icon-driven view. A single click on the desktop file will launch it on top of the current screen saving you time of manually switching to desktop and opening it. This application doesn’t come with a lot of options. You can modify the size and of desktop icons in the virtual view and the wallpaper also.

Though it lacks a lot of features, it might still come handy to some people. The freeware is only 1 Mb in size and runs on Windows XP. It doesn’t work in Vista.

Music offers virtually endless ways to make music. You choose the song and instruments and decide whether to blaze through a rock take on classical songs, put a jazzy spin on folk tunes or transform Nintendo classics like the Super Mario Bros. theme into Latin-flavoured numbers. The song list is only a takeoff point - it’s how you improvise with the songs that matters.

Nintendo is also coming up with an accessory for the Wiimote called the Wii MotionPlus that’s guaranteed to increase accuracy.

There were a lot of announcement from Sony too. They have announced God Of War 3 for the PS3 console. A Good reason to buy PS3, I guess.

Sony also announced that one of there best PS3 titles “Resistance : Fall of Man” will be heading to PSP in the form of “Resistance : Retribution” which will have a third person perspective instead of first person. In addition, some other titles were also announced such as LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2, NBA 09: Inside, Super Stardust Portable, Buzz! Master Quiz, Valkyria Chronicles, Midnight Club: Los Angeles Remix.

They also announced a bunch of greatest hits title that will be available for around $30 each. The games are

Some new for the Call Of Duty fans too. Kiefer Sutherland ( best known for his role Jack Bauer in TV Series ‘24’) is going to lend his voice to Call Of Duty : World At War. But no idea which character he will voice.

Google has added a new speech recognition tool to Youtube video search. Earlier the video search was based on tags and titles. Now you will be able to search for spoken text in a video. Currently, it is not available in all the videos, only on selected political videos.

To use this feature, you can add the Google Election Video Search Gadget to the iGoogle page or you can also view the gadget as a standalone page. To search, just enter a search term and Google will find the videos where the term is spoken. Videos will also have yellow markers indicating where the term is spoken.

The gadget only searches videos uploaded to YouTube’s Politicians channels, which include videos from Senator Obama’s and Senator McCain’s campaigns, as well as those from dozens of other candidates and politicians. It usually takes less than a few hours for a video to appear in the index after it has been published on YouTube. Google uses speech recognition technology to automatically transcribe the text of these videos and add them to an index. Lets hope Google extends it to other videos as well.

There is good news for Gears Of Wars lover. We finally have a date of release for Gears Of War 2. It is going to be released on 7th November, 2008. But the bad news, it will be XBOX 360 exclusive. Don’t know how long will PC users will have to wait to try it out.

Microsoft announced that they are going to release a game called “Lips”. Here is the info about the game

How can EA be far behind. There were a lot of interesting announcements from EA as well. They are adding a new game to the “Sim” franchise. It will be called Sim Animals. In this game you will be able to create your own environment where your animals can develop as well as interact with one another. Unfortunately it seems to be Nintendo exclusive, since only DS and Wii were mentioned.

EA will also publish “RAGE”, a game that is being developed by id software (the same who gave us Doom). Here is some info about the game

Rage utilizes id’s Tech 5 technology, aiming for new levels of graphic presentation in artistic expression and fidelity. Gameplay consists of both shooting and vehicle racing, combining race track tactics and FPS action when you take to foot in combat scenarios. 

I do certainly hope that this gets released for the PC. No release date for the game has yet been announced.

And this may seem like a surprise announcement, EA are actually preponing there survival horror game called “Dead Space”. Looking at the trailers, it sure looks scary. Now it is going to be released on 21st October instead of 31st October, 2008

TinEye is the new image identification search engine which was launched recently by Idee Inc. It is not like Google Image Search where you specify a name and Google will display the images. Here, you will have to upload an image and it will search the Internet and tell you where that particular image (with slight modification) is being used.

It can even find photos similar to the image you have uploaded. It creates a digital signature of the uploaded image and compares it with all the images which are in its database. It can also detect images which are part of the collage and are blended with another picture. Currently it indexes around 701,666,310 images from the web which is quite small. However, the number will grow as time progresses. You can also install thee browser Plug-in which will allow you to search for images with the click of the mouse. This new service has a lot of potential. I would be happy if they include an option to search for the images of the same person whose image you upload.

At present, it will be useful for users and artists if they want to check where there images are being used. I am certainly keeping an eye on this service, it looks like it has a great potential. It is currently in Private Beta. You can request an invite here.

Last year Electronic Arts released MySims, The Sims labelled game for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. Luckily, EA have decide to release the game for the PC users too. The game is inspired by the hugely popular Sims games. Here, users can create there own character, build a town, shop and grow there community.

The gamers will start with the own appearance and as the game progresses, they will unleash various innovative items as they build relationships with others and grow the community. Gamers will also be able to design there own home, shops, restaurant with creative items. The game also has a online feature by which users can play online with upto 7 friends. The gamers can interact with other gamers online and can play games such as hide and seek and Tag. They can also construct buildings which can be used for cooperative use. You can also trade items such as furniture with your friends.

SO if you have loved the Sims and the Sims 2 , you are sure going to find this game fresh and exciting. The game will be released on October 08. No pricing has been announced as yet.

Google has made another addition to its Services with Lively, a 3D virtual social networking service similar to Second Life. Users can create there own Avatar, enter chat rooms and chat with others in 3D graphics. I tried this but was unimpressed by this service. Google has a lot to do if they want to make it more popular. It seems like a bad copy of second life.

To use it, you will have to download the application from the Lively Website and install it. After launching the application, you will have to select the room which you want to enter after logging in with your Google Account. Most of the existing rooms are almost full and the server also seems to be too slow. You will then get a chance to create your own Avatar. There are a total of 10 variety of Avatars to choose from. You can even dress your Avatar with clothing but the clothing selection is quite small. You can also select which hair styles to choose from. Here is the Avatar which I managed to create

The interface also seems to be bad. To move your avatar, you will have to drag him using the mouse. They should have at least provided keyboard keys movement. And the camera angle is also disappointing and difficult to get used to. There are a lot of things to do in the room. You can chat with others and perform a variety of actions such as hug, kick, kiss, punch etc. If there are TV sets in the room, you can stream the videos from Youtube, if there is a picture frame, you can put your own photo. You can interact with objects like sot on a chair etc.

The loading time for a room is too much. There is a lot of work that needs to be done if Google wants to make it a top service. At present, I wouldn’t recommend any of you to try it. It will just be a waste of time.
