thousands of people will flock to Madrid, to the Chueca neighbourhood
on Wednesday July 1 to party in style until Saturday July 4 when the
festivities will end with the traditional gay pride parade.

As usual,
the festivities will begin with the opening speech, although this year
there will be two opening speeches: on Wednesday, July 1 Boris
Izaguirre and Spain's Eurovision representative, Soraya Arnelas, will
read the opening speech in Plaza de Chueca, whilst actors Cayetana
Guillén Cuervo and Daniel Guzmán will read another speech in Plaza
Vázquez de Mella

After the opening speeches, and until July 5, both squares will be
packed with fun and entertainment. The stages will accommodate the best
DJs of the moment, plus a whole range of different concerts by a
selection of performers from pop artists to electronic rhythms. Plaza
Vázquez de Mella will also host the Final Gala of the 2009 Mister Gay
Pride Spain Contest and this year, to triple the fun, another square is
joining in the events: Plaza de Santa Maria Soledad Torres Acosta, also
known as Plaza de Luna. Another space for performances and musical
shows.

However, artists won't only be performing in squares, but also on
different stages offering a vast programme and range of activities:
Calle Pelayo, Calle Libertad, Plaza de la Luna and Plaza del Rey. One
of them, Plaza del Rey, will be the Cultural Stage, the main setting
for the MADO Cultural Festival, MUESTRA-T, with the slogan Celebración 40 años de Orgullo en el Mundo (1969-2009) (40 Years Celebrating Gay Pride in the World [1969-2009]).

LESMADRID 09 will start on Saturday July 4, after the
parade. This lesbian festivity will be staged in one of the most
glamorous venues in Madrid, the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts
Circle). The event will take place in the dance hall and the column
gallery with two different atmospheres that will accommodate
performances by DJs as important as Moni-K and DJ Lara. There will also
be visual performances and go-go dancers.

Popular race and mass parade

Madrid's Gay Pride gathers a range of events which are open to
everyone, catering for a variety of tastes, from conferences and round
tables to exhibitions and cultural or sport activities. One of the most
notable events on the agenda is the group exhibition Social Pride
Project, from June 16 to July 6, which will spread out around different
venues in Chueca, and the theatre play The Dying Gaul,
by Craig Lucas, which will be performed from June 25 to 28 at the
Centro Cultural Casa de Vacas in El Retiro Park. Then there's the LGTB Visible Culture Festival, now in its 5th edition -from June 16 to July 12 in Madrid- with 11 shows and 13 theatre plays, plus a round table about theatre.

For sport lovers, the programme includes the third edition of the Proud
10 Km., which is open to athletes and amateurs on June 28. The
itinerary departs from Plaza de España around the centre of Madrid. As
well as this activity, this year's programme also offers more events
than ever before, so to make sure you don't miss a thing, check out the
complete programme: MADO'09.

The star event is the Gay Pride Parade that
actually names the festivities and was the origin of this whole week of
festivities and activities. In recent years, Gay Pride parades in
Madrid have gathered over two million participants. The traditional
colourful demonstration-parade around the streets of the capital is the
perfect ending to a week of festivities. This year the parade will take
place on July 4, and hopes to attract thousands of people, as in
previous editions, creating a stunning human river that will glide,
like a multicolour snake, along Madrid's main streets. As usual, the
parade will kick off from Puerta de Alcalá and march down to Plaza de
España, calling at Cibeles, Calle de Alcalá and the whole of Gran Vía.
The parade will end in Plaza de España, which is the best place to
cheer on each and every one of the floats as they arrive at their
destination. Plaza de España will also host an event that will gather a
varied selection of artists.

After a week of partying and not getting that much sleep, the best
option is to end with a quiet activity like the picnic that is staged
every year by the lake in El Retiro Park, in front of the monument
devoted to Alfonso XII. Take your friends and family and end this week
of events in a chilled-out atmosphere, enjoying the company of your
acquaintances and meeting new friends, as you give your stomach a
breather. In all, experience a week of festivities and celebrations in
one of the warmest and friendliest cities in the world, and you'll
surely want to come back for more next year.

46 years ago, the Museo del Prado commemorated the birth of Joaquín
Sorolla with a memorable retrospective of his works. Today, the art
gallery, who is seeking to pay tribute to the greatest Spanish masters
of the 19th century, has organised another major exhibition on the Valentian artist.

Sorolla's light has gone down in the history of art because he was able
to give life to those things which were inert. Aside from the
naturalism of the scenes he depicts, everything inside the painting
looks even more alive, if that's possible, thanks to the light; as
though the artist were not holding a brush but instead a lens capable
of capturing the entire spectrum of colours found in the water, the sky
and people's skin, and bestowing movement on motionless objects. For
this reason when historians make reference to Sorolla they speak of Luminism,
a technique which involves creating an image using different layers of
light, thus achieving very vibrant colours. Standing opposite many of
Sorolla's works the spectator feels physically blinded by the
paintings.

edition under the new identity it adopted last year. The event, the
most important forum of Spanish clothes design, is directed at
professionals from the fashion world and reveals the main trends of the
coming season. SIMM, the Madrid International Fashion Show, which will
be held from the 12th till the 14th, completes this month's calendar, in which fashion is in the spotlight.

The Cibeles Fashion Week is back in Madrid under a new name, a name used last year for the first time: Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. Its name was changed in order to strengthen the presence of Spanish fashion in the international arena while promoting Madrid as a design platform.

The fair is intended for professionals in the fashion sector and it will introduce the main trends for the next season. Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week will make it possible to get acquainted with the proposals of avant-garde, world famous designers.

This event brings together well know designers and designers that are just starting. Well-known, prestigious designers will present their proposals for the Spring-Summer season.

Last year, the show was also reinforced with the creation of a new fashion show. More than fifty designers will exhibit their vision of the latest fashion trends. Thus, the traditional Cibeles fashion show will be a platform for the most traditional and neutral creations while the new fashion show, Neptuno, will serve to display the most avant-garde proposals.

A second change after last year's fair was the integration of El Ego in the Cibeles Fashion Show. El Ego used to be held separately, as part of the general fashion show agenda in the Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. It will be held next Friday and some of the most outstanding young designers will take part in it.

Another innovation this year is the integration of Ego in Pasarela Cibeles, which used to take place separately on previous years, as part of the general agenda of fashion shows in Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. El Ego will take place on Friday and some of the best known young Spanish designers will take part in it.

Traditionally aimed at promoting Spanish young designers, El Ego will bring together the creations of those young designers for whom fashion is the balance between creativity, innovation, technique and functionality.

        A TRADE MEETING POINT
With more than 13,000 exhibiting companies from 170 countries/regions,
FITUR has the largest representation of supply thus allowing more than
150,000 sector professionals to establish the biggest and most useful
network of business and institutional contacts.

Fitur :
        THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE PROMOTIONAL PLATFORM
Fitur allows exhibitors and visitors to establish new strategies,
promote their destinations and products and perform different marketing
activities to reach the entire distribution channel. The international
media attention which FITUR attracts is proof of its significance. More
than 8000 journalists attended the previous event, ensuring that the
trade fair received widespread media coverage, both in the industry
media as well as the economic and general media.

Fitur :THE FUTURE IS NOW
The growth of FITUR and IFEMA's commitment to provide the best
installations and services to all exhibitors and visitors has enabled
us to extend the site to 200,000 m2, distributed over 12 halls. More
new services are now available, as well as the best installations.
There is also the new addition of an exclusive access hall to speed up
access to the site and the new East Entrance with direct access to
halls 12 and 14 and the rest of the site via convenient corridors
connecting with halls 4 and 6. More car parking spaces, modern rooms
for conferences and meetings, to mention just a few, make FITUR a great
opportunity for the future.

We have special Offers for visits Fitur. Apartments for short term rentals at Madrid downtwon. High level service and facilities. MORE INFORMATION AND BOOKINGS

FITUR offers the most complete range of tourism-related
products in Feria de Madrid. This is the biggest trade fair for the
tourism sector in Spain and it offers national and international
destinations at different prices.

The
International Tourism Fair, the main Spanish tourist fair, once again
returns to Madrid. Visitors will have access to the largest selection
of global tourist services and destinations over the five days.

The
event will take place at the Feria de Madrid. The exhibition welcomes
the entire selection of official bodies, wholesalers, tour operators,
travel agencies, transport companies, hotel companies, etc. making for
the main showcase for the domestic and international tourism sector.

The
show will be open exclusively to professionals for the first two days,
with access being extended to the general public over the weekend. A
large programme of conferences, courses and presentations on
tourism-related products will be taking place alongside the commercial
exhibition.

This
year it will include new destinations; namely, Bosnia Herzegovina.
Other countries that attended the fair in the past, such as France,
Italy, Argentina or Morocco, have decided to expand their exhibition
area in Fitur. Besides, Kenya, a country that has recently opened a new
tourism office in Spain, has decided to attend the fair this year too.

Fitur will also host a series of parallel lectures and activities aimed at serving as a meeting point for tourist agents.

The
most outstanding forums in Fitur are the conference of Latin American
Ministers of Tourism and businessmen working in the tourism sector,
organised by Grupo Nexo; the 9th Euro-Mediterranean Forum, organised by
Diálogo Mediterráneo; the FITURTECH tourist innovation and technology
forum, organised by Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero; and the Sala de la
Tecnología Turística, an initiative organised by the General
Secretariat for Tourism.

Besides,
this year the Search Marketing Expo Travel (SMX) will be held for the
first time. This event consists of a series of lectures on marketing
for searching tools specialised in tourism. This initiative will serve
to explore the different opportunities and the future development of
this sector.

This
will be the 29th FITUR exhibition. In 2008, the participation rates
increased, for the fact that the fair was attended by 13,530 firms from
170 different countries or regions. It received more than 255,817
participants, and 157,300 were professionals of the tourism sector.
This year, the organisers believe that these rates will improve.

Herds of fibreglass cows invade
Madrid in January as part of CowParade, a colourful street art display.
Each bovine statue is decorated by a different designer, then
strategically placed somewhere in the Salamanca, Retiro or Central
districts of the capital.

The concept of
CowParade - similar to Liverpool's Super Lamb Bananas - is to bring art
into everyone's day-to-day life, rather than confining it to galleries.

The first ever CowParade took place in Zürich ten years ago and
the painted cows have since been spotted in 50 cities, including
Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Las Vegas, Boston and Monaco.

Every
CowParade is different, each designed to capture the essence of the
host city. Past exhibitions have seen cows covered in computer keys,
glittery pink paint or transformed into Harry Potter. CowParade Madrid
sees creations by invited artists as well as winners of the capital's
"Paint a Cow!" competition.

Discover every nook and cranny of the home to the Real Madrid

It is the stadium of a great football team, the Real Madrid F.C. and it
opens its doors to its fans on a daily basis, with the aim of showing
them the corners and scenario in which their idols have played out so
many great triumphs. The Tour of Santiago Bernabeu also tells the
history of the century football club, and allows visitors to be level
with the playing field as well as to enjoy all the other angles that
are offered by as many seats, including those of the players
themselves.

Back when the original field at Chamartín was becoming a little snug, the then president of the Real Madrid F.C., Santiago Bernabéu
had the idea of building a new home for his club, and making it one of
the best stadiums in Europe. And so was born the new stadium,
inaugurated on December 14th in a game against the Portuguese from Os Belenenses. The name of the President has since stuck by its home turf.

This Tour, as envisioned by the Club itself, gets off to a steep start
at the highest part of the stadium, which is reached using one among
its several panoramic elevators. Not only does a breathtaking view of
the field open out before us: the size of the surroundings is also
overwhelming. Although the seats are naturally empty during this tour,
the visitor can imagine the emotion that has so often filled the
bleachers in this stadium city of 80,000 seats. Not for nothing has it
been the scenario of major sports events, such as the European Cup Finals in 1957
or the game in which Italy was crown World Champion in 1982. Other
events have come here as well, such as the youth meeting with the Pope
in 1982 and various concerts by music stars.

even though there are of course many others such as non-stop fun,
bright streets, celebration... Christmas in Madrid is not to be missed!

When December rolls around, the city gets ready to shed its regular
image and become even more dynamic and sparkly, and the number of
leisure and culture offers multiplies infinitely.

Everything kicks off when the lights are switched
on, illuminating the city until the beginning of January. Once again,
this year prestigious designers and architects will be in charge of
"dressing" the city. This time, new ideas come from David Delfín, who suggests using simple, dynamic designs for Calle Jorge Juan; Oscar Mariné, who reflects on the tranquillity and silence of the Gran Vía; and Teresa Sapey, who, among others, will be in charge of filling Plaza de Tirso de Molina with eyes which open and close.

Once more the city will boast designs by artists such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Juan Duyos and Elio Berhanyer, who are also responsible for the huge fir trees dotted around the city, including the one by Devota & Lomba, a centre piece in the Puerta del Sol.

The youngest members of the family have a special place reserved for them: the Ciudad de los Niños (Kids' City),
in Plaza de Colón, which will be packed with shows, games and workshops
for children. Imagination is the key to the festive season, and this
year it has resulted in the stunning Christmas Carrousel located at the Retiro park, which French artist François Delarozière has designed to send the world spinning.

Formed by insects and extraordinary animals whose movements are set in
motion by levers, this unique merry-go-round will fly off with anyone
who sets foot in it.

Spirits will also fly freely at the Teatro Fernán Gómez Gospel Festival or at the concerts offered in churches and in some of Madrid's most emblematic squares. The Royal Palace, on Plaza de Oriente, will open its doors and display one of its treasures: an 18th-century Neapolitan Nativity scene, one of the many cribs that will be on show around the city. Others will be displayed in the Town Hall and in numerous churches and museums.

While all this takes place, the city will keep up its usual fast pace. December 24th, Christmas Eve, brings family meals which include turrón (almond candy) and other traditional confectionary. December 31st is New Year's Eve, and once we have all finished swallowing our 12 lucky grapes at Puerta del Sol parties will break out all over town.

With a delicious mug of hot chocolate, Madrilenians welcome
the New Year, but the celebrations are far from over. January 5 will
see the climax of the festivities, when the city's main streets welcome
the long-awaited Three Kings Parade. The procession,
which will travel from Nuevos Ministerios to Plaza de Cibeles, will
feature pages, carriages and theatre companies exuding magic and
emotion.

This year, the Three Kings' message will focus on looking after and
respecting the Environment. A genuine commitment for Madrid for 2009.

for nightlife and has a number of restaurants. This area is located
between Paseo del Prado and Calle Atocha. There are innumerable places
to stay here as the apartments for short term.

It's
a popular area for foreigners to go out, but
also for the 'not so young locals' (between
25 and 35) who may feel a bit old for Malasaña.
There are also many theaters and it's quite
common to retire to the bars nearby after
performances. Plaza de Santa Ana is a common
meeting point in the area since many bars
there have made seating available outdoors
		    - the square itself is also quite attractive.
Bars here are small and are a bit crowded,
but they're usually good fun. There are a
couple of places are quite famous for their jazz concerts in this area. The traditional
wine and tapas stops are well worth a visit.

It is also known as "El Barrio de las Letras," literary Madrid.
This is where Spain's most celebrated Golden Age authors - Miguel de
Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina - lived
during the 17th century.

Continuing down on calle Atocha,
get back into the picturesque streets of Huertas by turning onto Calle
de León. León intersects with Calle de Cervantes: number 11 is the
Casa-Museo Lope de Vega, the home of and museum honoring Spain's most
prolific playwright.

anniversary by organising a total of fifteen concerts at Teatro Fernán
Gómez and two at Teatro Real (Opera House), as well as those performed
on other stages as part of this year's festival: Joy Eslava club,
Centro Cultural Nicolás Salmerón, and over 20 clubs that belong to La
Noche en Vivo association for live music clubs.

The background music that surrounds Madrid as soon as November rolls
around is pure jazz. The traditional festival, an unmissable event for
jazz lovers, will be staging its 25th edition this year. A very special anniversary, which Teatro Fernán Gómez (Plaza de Colón, 4) commemorates with a total of 17 concerts, which will all begin with a live rendition of So What! live, magical, different and colourful, thanks to the installations conceived by artist Lidia Antón.
A genuine tribute to Miles Davis that will be the prelude to each performance, put on by artists like Concha Büika, Ivan Lins and Antonio Serrano on the 4th and Omara Portuondo on the 15th, who will take to the stage alongside Jorge Drexler and Martirio. On November 19, fans will be in for a surprise: the performance of Perico Sambeat Flamenco, the first Flamenco Big Band created in Spain.

Juntos para siempre (Together Forever) is the title of the latest work by Chucho and Bebo Valdés. They'll be performing the new tracks on November 7 at Teatro Real (Plaza Isabel II, s/n), accompanied by the splendid set designs created by Erich Wonder for the opera Händel's The Triumph of Time and Truth, representing a luxurious Art-Deco restaurant that the audience will be able to sit at. Diane Reeves and the Barry Harris Trío will be playing on the 12th.

The Nicolás Salmerón centre, Joy Eslava and another 20 venues around
the city will also host the performances listed in this edition, which
is completed with the programme of the 27th San Juan Evangelista Jazz Festival (until November 29) and the 13th
Ciudad Lineal Jazz Festival (from November 11 to 23). They all share
one common goal: to give the people in Madrid something to think about,
contemplate and enjoy throughout the whole month.
