I must admit, I had a really hard time believing that I was a direct cause of the things that were showing up in my life. Even today, I still have a tough time accepting that about some of the not so pleasant things that continue to crop up in my life.

On the flip side, it was really empowering to know that I played a part in shaping my life. That none of us just passively sits by, and lets life happen. It may sound a little woo-woo if you haven't been exposed to this concept - it's a lot to wrap your mind around, I know. John Assaraf does a great job explaining the science around "thoughts become things" in the video below.

I ran across this video yesterday in my search for best-selling inspirational author, Og Mandino. And to be quite honest, I was familiar with his name, but that little piece of information was unknown to me until yesterday.

It wasn't until I did a Google search that I found out that he wrote The Greatest Salesman in the World, which, according to Og Mandino, contains time-tested wisdom, and if followed for the prescribed ten months, will radically change your life.

Intrigued by his claims, I went on a hunt for anything Og Mandino. And of all the things I found, this video of his last live talk is what resonated with me the most - compliments of Success Magazine.

I'm sure you've heard at least once in your life, "If you can conceive it, you can achieve it."

I know I have.

But you see, no one ever told me that along the way, that the committee that meets on a regular basis in my head, would attempt everything they could to sabotage my achievement of whatever it was I aspired to achieve.

It was hard to recognize them because they dressed up as blame, complaining, etc.

Unfortunately, for a lot of us, it's the pain that's usually the catalyst for some kind of change in our lives. More than I care to admit, I know this to be true in my own life.

I believe our perception of a given situation determines how we view the impending change. Whether we perceive it is an opportunity for something better, or a disadvantage that does nothing more than hinder us.

How we answer that question eventually sets the stage for the series of events that follow.

I can't begin to tell you how many times the above quote has gotten me through some pretty tough challenges.

Lets' face it, life challenges are unavoidable. They are one of the few certainties that we can count on in life. Add to the mix unexpected change, and we've got a real situation on our hands. It's those unexpected changes that really seem to trip us up along the way, throw us off our center.

But more specifically, I believe, it's our resistance to it that creates the discomfort that we experience. There's no life instruction manual that we are born with that outlines what we are to do when we're confronted with a certain set of special circumstances.

So how can we embrace unexpected change and move forward when life takes us by surprise?

It's been said that resentments are like urinating on yourself - you're the only one that feels them. The person, or the situation that you have the resentment with continues to go on with their lives while you're still caught up in the emotion and the feeling of what was said, or not said, done, or not done.

I can certainly attest to some very real situations and experiences that left me feeling deeply hurt, violated and betrayed. But then there were some cases that when I really got honest about it, were either imagined, or I made it out to be a lot more serious than it really was. Or even worse, I was carrying around someone else's stuff!

Talk about insanity!

Either way, in the end, I was only hurting myself.

The things that he shared on that webinar last night were so simple, but powerful. Funny thing is, it's always the simple messages that seem to have the most lasting impact on me.

Maybe you're like me in that respect, which is why I chose to post this video today of Les Brown with the hopes that you are changed in some small, or even big way, by the things that he shares in this particular video.
