Congratulations once again to Joe Mauer and Torii Hunter. Both won Rawlings American League Gold Glove Awards earlier in the week, and later in the week, they each picked up an American League Silver Slugger Award. As a tribute for this year, our Twitter background has been updated to include Mauer and Hunter. It's not going to win any design awards, but it's supposed to be the thought that counts. Another Year of Griffey?

Just when we thought he was done, Ken Griffey, Jr. has decided to come back for at least one more season. While another season of Ken Griffey, Jr. may be great for baseball, it's not as good for wiffleball. When we started using the Ken Griffey, Jr. black wiffleball bat, home runs flew out of The Sac like never before. However, by the end of the season, the bat lost it's power, and it became just a regular bat. So, the next year, I bought a new Griffey bat, and it made a huge difference. There was no comparison to the "old" one. The new bat was just better. To this day, the Ken Griffey, Jr. black wiffleball bat is the best wiffleball bat I've ever used...

2009 Gold Glove Awards

Major League Wiffleball would like to congratulate Torii Hunter and Joe Mauer for winning 2009 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Hunter won his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Award, while Mauer won his second in a row. It would be interesting to see how these players would adapt to wiffleball since MLW players don't wear gloves...

Wiffleball World Series

After a grueling 20-game regular season, the Major League Wiffleball champion was decided in a best-of-seven playoff series. We called it the Sac Series. It was our version of a Wiffleball World Series, and it determined the best wiffleball team on our cul-de-sac. All year long, players would compete to finish in the top 8 in the standings. Players finishing in the 1-4-5-8 spots would represent Team One, and would play against the 2-3-6-7 finishers, representing Team Two. Amazingly, the rankings were practically identical at the end of each season...

Still Looking Up To Mike Scioscia

There comes a time when most of us realize we're not going to make the Major Leagues. Some of us might try softball as a replacement, but we soon find out that it doesn't match the excitement of baseball. So we return to the 'home version' that we grew up playing in our backyard -- wiffleball. Watching the MLB playoffs, I'm reminded of these childhood times, and wonder if that's how my interest in wiffleball was formed. Back then, I looked up to players like Mike Scioscia (left), and although I'm a lot taller now, I look up to him even more.

Who’s That Old Guy With The Twins?

Maybe you spotted him in the Metrodome tunnel when the Twins won the American League Central division in Game 163 of the regular season. Or maybe you've seen him in the Twins dugout during games wearing his 'BOSS' hat. He's the old guy with the mustache. That's Twins clubhouse manager Wayne Hattaway, and he's the person who is responsible for allowing our staff members to meet Twins players and have them pose with wiffleballs for this site.

5th Annual Connor Fenton Memorial Scholarship Wiffle Ball Tournament

On Sunday, October 18, 2009, the 5th Annual Connor Fenton Memorial Scholarship Wiffle Ball Tournament and Fundraiser will be held at the James Street Park in Carterville, Illinois. The event will also feature the Bears for BooboosTeddy Bear Drive. The Wiffle Ball tournament will have 3 age categories, and trophies will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division. Prizes will also be awarded to the team with the most creative name and the team with the most creative uniforms. Teams, volunteers, sponsors, and silent auction items are needed.

Have The Brett Favre Attitude For Wiffleball

Although he drives football fans crazy every NFL offseason, Brett Favre has the right idea. When you're in a position like his, deciding to whether to play football or not on a year-by-year basis is a great move. You can play the game you love, or you can take it easy instead. Wiffleball players have it even better. Since wiffleball is commonly played in your own backyard or neighborhood, you get to make that decision every day. Wiffleball allows you to come out of retirement whenever you want. You can be the next Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong, Mario Lemieux, or Roger Clemens.

MLW Home Run King Turns 32

Major League Wiffleball all-time home run king Mike Breen is celebrating his 32nd birthday today. Mike belted 58 home runs over three seasons, and won the single season home run title in each of those three seasons (Season 1: 12; Season 2: 18; Season 3: 28). Quentin Jensen, and Mike's cousin Shaun Breen both trail Mike, and share second place with 41 home runs each during their careers. In addition to being the wiffleball home run king, Mike is also the MLW leader in runs batted in (140) and total bases (310).

Why Wiffleball Is Cooler Than Ice Hockey

Did you know that the NHL season starts tomorrow? Me neither. But my friend, and fellow MLW player Joe Yerdon probably did. Joe likes to write about ice hockey, especially what's wrong with it, on his blog, Gross Misconduct Hockey. He often bashes Gary Bettman, for good reason, but being a league Commissioner isn't as easy as you'd think. Trust me, I know. Bettman has another problem though that's beyond his control -- ice hockey just isn't fun.
