With the sale of Sling Media to Echostar more than a year behind them, Sling Media founders Blake and Jason Krikorian are leaving the company. Not only are Blake and Jason heading out, but Sling Entertainment Group, the group that manages Sling.com, heads Jason Hirschhorn and Ben White are also leaving the company at the end of February. Sling Media is taking some of their secret sauce out of the separate set-top accessory and is offering it up as an integrated solution in other set-top boxes. Echostar, here at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is showing off the very first "Sling Loaded" DVR in history. It may be starting in the Echostar booth, but word on the street (meaning what we’re hearing from those manning the booth) is that Sling’s stuff is open to any satellite, cable, or other set-top maker who wishes to license it. Now, off to find some (insert your provider here) reps to assess the wait time. Of course, if you want it when it first hits, all you need to do is pick up a Dish Network brochure and make the call. What happens at the Sling Booth in Las Vegas stays at the Sling Booth in Las Vegas… that is, until Sling Media dropped two webcams and started streaming them live! If you’ve ever wondered what kind of torture the poor folks from Sling have to endure (giving the same spiel and answering the same questions for 10 hours straight), now you can by tuning into their CES 2009 booth live and watching all the fun! Sling Media Talks SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone, SlingPlayer for Mac Prototype at Macworld

Sling Media is demonstrating a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone being developed for the iTunes store right now at Macworld. Sling Media will deliver a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone to Apple for certification in Q1. The price has not been determined at this time. They’re also unveiling a prototype of the new SlingPlayer for Mac HD which allows Slingbox PRO-HD users to stream HD content to their Mac desktop or laptop computer. The new SlingPlayer for Mac HD is a web-based version of the SlingPlayer software that will be accessible from Sling.com, Sling Media’s recently launched video entertainment web site. SlingPlayer for Mac HD will be available for free via the web-based SlingPlayer within Sling.com later in Q1. SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone… We’ve all been told it’s in the works. We’ve gotten a sneak preview of an early pre-alpha build . We’ve even debated what the possibility is Apple would reject the app if submitted. What we have not been told is when all this is coming to an iPhone near you… until now. SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone should be submitted to Apple before the end of Q1 2009. Jamie Lendino over at PC Magazine recently got to go hands on with a developmental alpha build of SlingPlayer for iPhone running on a 3G model - something the SlingCommunity Team is hoping to do during the 2009 CES show this week (stay tuned!). Jamie calls out a few nifty features never-before-seen on SlingPlayer Mobile, like the Home Channel Set feature that let’s you set a default channel when you fire it up, as well as a good run through of the UI. SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry Arrives

"Before the end of the year." That’s the mantra BlackBerry owners have heard over and over again since the 2008 CES show back in January. It’s still 2008 (barely), but it least they made it. A public beta of SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry is out NOW . BlackBerry owners have been eagerly waiting to watch Slingbox streams from their mobile phones for well over a year. It’s been a long road, but at least some of them (GSM BlackBerry users) get to join the "I watch TV on my cell phone" fan club, which until now had been exclusive to Windows Mobile, Palm, and Symbian users. BlackBerry owners on CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint still have to hold out hope whatever platform glitch preventing SlingPlayer from working will get resolved in the future. While the official launch isn’t until at least midnight Eastern, members here in the community have reported that if you point your Blackberry browser to mobile.slingmedia.com you can download the public beta now.
