Dear Adesoji,

This is why I said NO to BonVoyage! I have actually tried my best not to comment about this for 1yr and a few months now. I have learnt by experience to mind my own business and not talk down another person’s business. I have learnt that mudslinging only dirties the participants. Many times however, I have seen people who love and respect me make blunders because in the moments of their error, I was silent. While I certainly am not responsible for the world, I am at least responsible for some people who trust my judgement, who can benefit from my experience and who don’t need to make the same mistakes I have made in the past. If you fall into any of these categories, then this little piece of mine should be instructive. If you are however ahead of me or don’t value my opinion, please kindly ignore.

I said no because of the following reasons, sorry if they sound brief, I expect this to only be valuable for people who want to be shown the right direction, not people who are already lost.

1. I have been involved in my days of ignorance in a number of board based network marketing companies. I even dared developing a model myself. I learnt the hard sad way, that network marketing companies with boards or forced matrix are a time bomb. The systems will congeal after 18 months, the boards will grind to a halt!

2. I have learnt by experience, that the profit margin for the owners of the company is so slim that they depend on those who will never make it to earn. All those stuck in the boards are known as breakage, and these money’s cannot be spent until you are sure the boards have become relatively frozen. Once the owner takes profit, the businesses either getaway, or the owners say bonvoyage. At this time, the pay out options reduce and the only way you can get any money is by using the vouchers you earn to pay for new people.

3. Board based Network Marketing companies have another fundamental flaw, they allow for cheating. Well, if you run your life by true north principles this would be difficult for you. How? Many of the first movers buy 10, 20, 50 positions (of course you don’t need 2 of the products being sold, one is enough). They buy these multiple accounts so that when they market their friends, they can “cycle out” about 10 times before things get warmed up.

Many have realized that the hope of one account earning more than 5 times in the entire lifespan of the business is a pipe dream. The boards are flawed and allow for gaming and cheating.

4. Some people say, “I know it will crash, but I will make my money first”. I am sorry, I cannot live my life knowing that I am putting other people into jeopardy. In the time of Ignorance God winks at. Now that I know for sure it will crash, I can’t be a part of it.

5. I saw the beginning and end of getawayclub, diamond cash club, six star travel, eplatinum club, family home club and travel access club. I literally knew when they started and when they ended. Boards don’t last, they are not built to.

6. The earning potential is good in the beginning, you earn $1000 in the case of Bonvoyage which is simply identical to Travel Access Club for doing very little, but if you have one account and earned on it more than 5 times, it means you already have a team nearing 30,000 or you have been conning your downlines out of their referrals. As time goes and the company grows you realize there is no residual income value from these businesses, once you stop being active, in a maximum of 2-3 months you totally stop earning.

The early birds realize that they can no longer earn without a lot of personal effort, their zeal to help new comers reduce and they are all stuck… until another program shows up, and they begin to tell this same people to come to something more exciting.

7. Finally, if not for the grace of God, and the fact that I wear my heart in my sleeves and genuinely am interested in people. I would have by now earned an irreparable reputation for just my strong participation in one of these companies. Because these companies sell products that people can’t fall back on when the system crashes, there is really nothing for those who paid and didn’t get money back. The lack of value of the product only goes to further show that these are not even network marketing companies in the real sense.

These are 7 reasons why I said no! I still get called by people who believe if they can get me, they will get thousands of others, well, I’m sorry, you cannot get me. If I didn’t know what I know, I would have been the first person in many companies in Nigeria… the company owners know who to approach. I have learnt to decline. There are opportunities that are not worth it on the long run.

What do I suggest

1. If you are in already, don’t bother to invite your friends to get you out. Leave it, and consider it a business loss. It’s better to lose N63,000 than lose the trust link that can make you positioned for greater things.

2. If you are considering it, don’t. It’s almost 18 months and the end is nearer than you think.

1. No Team or No Upline Support

Once a person signs up with a new Network Marketing business, he/she needs a lot of help. This he/she can get from their upline. An upline is someone who brought you into the Network Marketing business. You should get all the support you require from not only your upline but your team too.

2. Inability to Market or Sell

This is probably the major reason most people do not make it Network Marketing. By using standard Network Marketing techniques, you have got to help people, market and sell. You would also need to learn how to speak about the business opportunity at meetings and the likes.

If you can’t sell or market, you need to learn the act and put it to practice. The best place to learn is by acting. I didn’t learn marketing at school but I am getting better at it. Marketing/selling is more than just exchanging products/services for money. It is more about filling a need.

3. Inability to Generate Good Leads

Here is a picture of what normally happens. The new person has just signed up in an exciting Network Marketing program. He is taught by the manuals, meetings and so forth, how he should “share” the benefits and products with his friends, neighbors and relatives. Normally, he is not comfortable with this, and if he is typical, he will have many sleepless, tossing and turning nights. He just doesn’t want to “impose” on his friends! He would feel a lot more comfortable just presenting his opportunity to strangers.

It is easy to generate leads only if you know how to. If you suck at this, you need to learn how to and get this failure past you. You might want to search through all the posts we have on MakeMoneyOnlineNg.com for how to generate leads or how to expand your business. That should help.

4. No System to Duplicative

If the Network Marketing company must be promoted through expensive methods, this is not feasible. Learning how to sell, or to speak and conduct an opportunity meeting is just not duplicative. Either way, you can use the help of a fellow distributors or leaders in the Network Marketing business to help you conduct an opportunity meeting.

You should look for Network Marketing business whose success story can be easily duplicated.

5. Using Traditional Method of Selling

The traditional way to Network Marketing is to spend all spare time to call around and travel around to get prospects. A lot of people already have full time job, it is hard to find extra time to travel and make phone calls. This is why these MLM marketers cannot keep their program going.

6. Lack of Understanding what Network Marketing is all about

Often a person will sign up in a Network Marketing business in a “fit of excitement.” After the dust clears, he comes down to earth and reality slowly sets in. To get yourself over this, pick an established and financially sound Network Marketing company that is at least two years old with unquestionable products or services. That way, you can get to know more about the company and products that you are promoting. You should have a good understanding of the Network Marketing company. There is nothing quite like being able to “tell the complete truth” to your prospective customers.

7. Impatience

Starting any company takes time, and this is true with a Network Marketing company as well. By the time you study the program, learn more about the opportunity, receive help, support, sign up and then some other things, a lot of time has been spent. And then you have to generate your leads and so on.

It will take some months before you can expect much of anything to happen to your Network Marketing business. You should set in your mind that you are going to stick with this for at least some months or years. That just makes good business sense. It should be months of consciously building your Network Marketing business

8. Laziness

Many people are lazy because it is easy to earn money as an employee but takes more time to make more money. Network Marketing is more about making more money than earning money. Even though at first, you will earn money but if you want to build wealth, you need to make money, and that takes hard work.

If you are not ready to work hard, forget about becoming part of Network Marketing business.

PATRICK OGIDI: I’m Mr. Patrick Ogidi, and by the grace of God, I’m an Internet Marketer, Social Media Media Consultant and a work-at-home advocate. MMON: When did you start Making Money Online and how did you make your first money online?

PATRICK OGIDI: Well, I can’t actually recall how it began (LOL!). Just that, I’ve always had this strong resolution never to work under any man, even when I was still in the university. I looked around for a business that will give me such opportuniy, and alas Internet business came in handy to help me realize that goal.

So, in pursuance of that, I engaged myself in series of knowledge acquisition. I invested in books, ecourses and attended expensive webinars. All these, coupled with determination to live my dream helped keep me on the right track.

Talking about how I made my first money online, it actually came through Affiliate Marketing in 2008. After studying a particular WSO on Affiliate Marketing I bought in 2008, and reading testimonials of guys making it big from Affiliate Marketing, I made a serious but funny challenge to myself that I must cash my first $500 affiliate check that month.

I swung into action, I denied myself a lot of things to meet up with the cost of buying browsing time in cyber cafe then

…and guess what?

After exactly 32 days from the day I bought the WSO, I received my first online earnings through my Graphcard account.

Guess how much?

$207… that’s $293 short of my target but I wasn’t discouraged at all!

The checks kept coming later on and on… then I diversified!

MMON: That is satisfying. It gives people the surety that their is money in it

MMON: When starting your present site, did you ever expect it to grow to where it is today?

PATRICK OGIDI: It’s only a pessimist that wouldn’t! If you don’t, what’s the need starting one at the first place.

I had role models I was (and still) looking up to. I knew the only way I could get to the top was to start something; a website… then grow it. And how do I do that, I need to take the first step, the second and it continues…

MMON: Cool… You’ve been in the internet space for quite some time, how much of an impact have you made?

PATRICK OGIDI: Yes, I’ve been! But I think it wouldn’t be fair been a judge in my own case. I should allow my fans be the judge here. What I try to do is to keep my head up, and always strive to impact positively on lives… I leave my fans/students to be the judge!

MMON: How have you incorporated social media into your site?

PATRICK OGIDI: The world is going social media! If you ain’t in the train already and do not plan to join NOW, then I wonder! Like I wrote earlier, I’m a staunch Social Media Expert and adorn all my websites with them in one way or the other. I get 88% of my traffic from Social Media and I must tell you, it’s been fun!

MMON: 88 what!!!!…. That’s coooool. I think I would need your help to drive social media traffic to my next social based site

MMON: In your opinion, what is the single best way to monetize a blog/website/membership site/forum etc?

PATRICK OGIDI: There’s no single best way. What works for Mr. A might not work for Mr. B. In my opinion, if you’ve got a website, split test among various monetization avenues and carry on with the one that brings in return the most.

Another point worthy of note is this; the way you monetize your blog/website/membership site/forum also depends to a large extent on what you have in mind before creating them and the kind of traffic you have on them.

Let’s take a Nairaland.com for example, the owner Seun Osewa makes more money from Google Adsense. That’s a fact! That’s to say that, promoting a Clickbank affiliate product there may almost amount to a total waste of time.

In my opinion summarily, you monetize your blog/website/membership site/forum based on the kind of stuff your visitors are enthusiastic about.

MMON: True… Good points… So, what tools do you think will help you achieve more online if you have them?

PATRICK OGIDI: The best tool is OUTSOURCING!

If you try to do all the job alone, you end up making peanuts. Outsourcing helps you delegate the harder part of your job to workers while you focus on strategizing and thinking up new and better business ideas.

And if you know the rules very well, you can outsource definitely everything online for peanuts, except ‘chopping’ your money LOL…

I love outsourcing a lot!

MMON: Another great point. Outsourcing really helps a great deal. So, any recommended resources for people looking to bring their online business to the next level?

PATRICK OGIDI: I’ll advice them to embrace social media. Recent research has shown that, when people put on their computer in the morning, they login to their Facebook account first before even checking their email. Funny, but it’s true!

Social media can help every netpreneur reach their target audience fast and cheaply, if you know the way around it.

MMON: Beautiful!. Do you have any big announcements or upcoming projects you’d like to tell us about?

PATRICK OGIDI: Oh yea… I love BIG events and that explains why I’m always coming up with them.

PATRICK OGIDI: Like I will always tell newbies in this business, the first thing they should do is what I called ‘The Right Mind conditioning’. By that, I mean they shouldn’t see internet marketing as the last resort or an avenue to make some overnight bucks. No!

They ought to approach it like a BUSINESS, which it is!

The next thing they should do, if they must make headway is to find a worthy MENTOR. Not just any mentor, but someone who knows his/her onions, and not some fly by night marketers who don’t practice what they teach or sell. If you dabble into Internet business without a mentor, you’ll end up been discouraged half way, and if you’re not lucky, get ripped off by wolves in the industry.

Another thing is to lay your hands as much as you can on useful and valuable information. Information is power, and no amount of INVESTMENT on acquiring information is too much.

So you must try to get as much information as you can; especially on the recommendations of your mentor. Then, stick to a business model. Drive it closer to perfection/mastery before you look into another. Don’t make the mistake of trying out lots of things at a time.

Summarily, anybody that wants to do internet business should bear in mind that it’s never a way to make quick and free money. Contrary to what people (especially newbies) think, money is never doled out freely anywhere online. You must work for it! If you choose a business model, play by the rules, be patient and do your best! If you have the right mentor and the right biz model, I see no reason you wouldn’t succeed.
