MAC Product Release: Metal Urge Swatches

If you were digging on MAC last year, you might have had the misfortune of buying some items from their Metal-X Cream Eyeshadow release like I did. They offered a vivid yet simple and basic array of color, but the results and usability of the product left many MAC fanatics disappointed - yes, me too!

Another year later and MAC is pushing it out again with another attempt at stardom. Will they succeed? You be the judge...

The Metal-X Cream Eyeshadows are fairly similar (if not exactly the same) to last year's release as far as the formula goes. Unfortunately, they didn't promote a nice purple color like last year's Plum Electric, but honestly, I don't think I'd bat another eyelash at taking one of these home with me. But I do give many credits to the colors Gilded Ash, Gold Spice, Forged Rose, and Verdigris. Those made me double think my purchasing decision, but I held strong and decided against it, hah!

The pigments are really pretty. I mean, when are they NOT. Gold Mode and Cocomotion are repromotes from prior releases (better get your mits on Cocomotion!) but Spiritualize is the new kid on the block and a handsome one at that.

If I had to choose one of the Reflects Glitter jars to buy, it would definitely be Reflects Bronze. It's so gorgeous in swatch and would go great in topping off any earthtone look. Reflects Duo Purple and Reflects Very Pink are more translucent so they purely just add sparkle to the application. And Reflects Blackened Red would look so lovely if mixed with some lipgloss and used to top off a number of lipsticks!

The Liquidlast Liners are just perfect. All are part of the permanent line with exceptions to Molten Sol (an intriguing coppery bronze) and Visionaire (a solid princess pink). These are definitely long lasting liners - hasn't budged off my arm yet! Green Play isn't part of the release but I swatched it just in case I read the line up incorrectly when I went in for swatching. Still pretty though, yah?

PRICE
Although it's only a pressed powder and not a foundation, I think it's relatively priced around what drugstore line pressed powders are going for nowadays. I would opt for the $5-7 pressed powder and $7-9 for a powder/liquid foundation, but that's just my personal preference when it comes to budget cosmetic lines that were around before my time.

PACKAGING
The packaging ain't no cosmetic mansion, but it does provide the essentials. It's equipped with a sturdy and secure snap-close feature to prevent the spilling of any contents (but sadly not break-proof), a full compact size mirror, a moderately deep dish of powder, a soft sponge applicator, and a vented applicator holder to minimize the growth of bacteria.

PRODUCT COVERAGE
Considering that CoverGirl's Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder is exactly that... a pressed powder, I wasn't expecting much as far as coverage goes. The coverage of the pressed powder was enough for my personal taste, but I would suggest using a concealer to spot treat any blemishes and/or scars, if you feel it's necessary, as the pressed powder has some coverage but not coverage like that of a foundation. In the pictures below, I didn't apply concealer to my face so that you can get a good idea on the coverage and can easily identify areas where concealer could have helped create a more even canvas (helloooo dark circles!).

PRODUCT SHINE CONTROL
I'll admit that the shine control was pretty impressive. I didn't do a very good job of documenting the shine control in using the CoverGirl's Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder (as you can tell by the "non-primered pictures" hah!) but on my other test runs with different brushes, the control was much better. It did hold its own pretty well going on 4+ hours. Normal t-zone oils but nothing that would cause someone to mistake me for a mirror. Just a nicely matted appearance and since I DO NOT do touch-ups throughout the day, it was great to not look so worn out so quickly!

PRODUCT TEXTURE
CoverGirl's Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder applies rather smoothly to the skin and didn't seem to have any shimmer or sheen to it. I was sent Brown Bronze 2 which I thought would be around my color match, but in reality, it was a bit darker than I was expecting. I was able to blend out the color by just buffing it out more which allowed it to blend more naturally with my skin's natural color and undertones.

I really like that the product was solid in it's application and by that I mean it really planted itself on my skin for longevity, yet it was soft, breathable for the skin, and VERY lightweight!

SMELL
If you've ever owned a compact from any company, that's exactly what the pressed powder smells like. It doesn't transfer to your skin, at least not that I can tell from my experience, but it does have slight aroma in the pan.

APPLICATION METHOD
There are a variety of tools that can be used for application ranging from the provided sponge applicator to your choice of face powder brushes. For the pictures I used a flat top buffer brush which I normally use for my mineral foundation. I don't feel it did as good a job as I was hoping but did see better results when using a kabuki brush.

WHAT I LIKE

The ready-to-go compact
The spongle applicator vent
Being able to blend out the pressed powder with my natural skin color (even though it was a shade too dark)
Longer staying shine control
The powder was very lightweight on the skin and allowed my skin to breath without clogging
Didn't break out from it!

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

It might raise flags for some because it contains parabens.

OVERALL
It's a nice product. I really like that it's lightweight and smooths over nicely on my skin. The shine factor is great and I believe delivered on it's promise. The coverage for me was just right but for those needing a bit more coverage that a concealer won't help with, you might find a foundation to be more to your liking. Other than that, if you're in the CoverGirl aisle, it wouldn't hurt to give the Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder a try.

This is another personal preference, but I'm not sure on paying almost $8 for the CoverGirl Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer. If it were almost $7, that would probably make me more inclined to impulse shop the item.

PACKAGING
Let's just say that the CoverGirl Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer is a bachelorette with her own pad. No room for a mirror or an included application tool, just the striking dame herself. The simplistic packaging could be partly because bronzer touch-ups are rare... hmm.

PRODUCT SHINE CONTROL
My cheeks are an area that likes to self-promote attention through a method we'll call shine, or oil, if you like. It's really hard to say whether or not my shine was controlled from the pressed powder or the bronzer itself, but the CoverGirl Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer does contain silica which helps in oil control. I'm left to believe that if you don't wear any sort of face coverage, that the bronzer helps to keep the oil in check and added protection for those that do wear some sort of coverage under.

PRODUCT TEXTURE
The CoverGirl Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer has a bit of shimmer to it which gives the appearance of being "sun-kissed". I personally am more of a blush person than a bronzer gal, but for the folks looking to have that tanned edge even when the sun isn't out, might find the bit of shimmer beneficial to their likings. The shimmer is not chunky at all, just a subtle touch of dazzle to enhance the overall facial glow.

SMELL
Another normal compact cosmetic aroma.

APPLICATION METHOD
My brush of choice for applying this product was a moderate head powder brush like the MAC 129. If I happened to pick up a bronzer that was a shade too dark, I'd probably reach for a duo-fiber brush like the MAC 187/MAC 188 so that I could keep the darkness of the color under control, yet wearable.

WHAT I LIKE

Didn't break out from it!
Simple packaging which means more room in the makeup bag.
Subtle shimmer may be great for those are looking for that extra "sun-kissed" glow.
Color blends well with skin making it more natural appearing.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

It might raise flags for some because it contains parabens.
Some may not like the shimmer as it may make darker skintones glisten a bit more than liked.

OVERALL
I don't believe this is a must-get product unless you're looking to have a bronzer on hand. I would say get a nice blush and smile!

Happy 1st Birthday Baby Tyke!

In Hawai'i, 1st birthday celebrations are HUGE. Folks will spend grands on the event because back in the day, little babies sadly weren't even making it to the "big one". So, if your child made it to their first birthday, it was a very big deal.

But in any case, birthdays should always be a big deal, at least for the little ones. Once you turn 21, then uh... it starts to taper in celebrations, hah.

So I'd like to give the spotlight to my babes for trucking hard this past year. For taking on the world full swing and for reminding me how crucial it is to enjoy each day carefree and without regret. To smile, to laugh, to cry... and to not fret over a turned over bowl full of pureed baby food finding it's way into every nook and cranny other than a hungry mouth. And for making me more obsessed about my skin since yours looks sooo much better than mine, lol! (I WANT!!)

Ok, serious though. It's been an enduring yet humbling experience for me to realize what it takes to be a parent and to be a success-in-progress at that, which I am by far on the latter. You remind me that simple is always impressive and that even though you don't always get your way, there's always a loving compromise. You have the most heartfelt laugh that makes me melt every time and teeth that make me realize you're not a baby anymore. You are another perfect piece in my life and I couldn't have asked for anything more.

And my dear son, no matter how many lemons are thrown our way... whether it be another move, daddy going to school, or having to find another job that will make sure you and your brother will be taken cared of, MAMA WILL MAKE LEMONADE!!

Base Trial: Kryolan RMG Palette OVER UPDD

The following base trial is based on Kryolan's Mini RMG Palette used OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion. This product is a special castor oil based grease paint which is used a lot in theatre and stage makeup.

My good friend, Cannice, had swiped up some good finds from Kryolan back when some of their products were on sale. And since she hardly uses them, I asked her if I could test them out and put them to use.

In this container of finds was the 16-Color Kryolan Mini RMG Palette. I've been doing research online since the palette was unlabeled, but it looks close to the palette shown here. I'm not sure if it's the EXACT one since the palette I have is quite old and the colors or color order is slightly different, but for the sake of getting a visual on the product I used, this is pretty close, if not exact.

I "read" through the land of makeup talk that the Kryolan palettes are a bit more creamy in consistency in contrast to Mehron products which I "read" are more tacky. The creamy consistency of the 16-Color Kryolan Mini RMG Palette is definitely the cause of the crease-city you're about to witness. And this was OVER Urban Decay's Primer Potion. Everyone's eyelids are different, but this is how my experience was with it.

Within the hour of doing my makeup, I was sad to find out the eyeshadow color near and around my crease area had faded as well as the evident line of creasing smack across my eyelid. I was going to a birthday party and I hadn't even left yet and my eyes were looking unfashionably tow' up!! So needless to say that I tried not to blink while I was there, hah! Oh, it was not cute you guys... :( It was a kid's birthday party though so at least half the party-goers had no clue, lol!

But don't take my word for it, see for yourself...

Kryolan Mini RMG Palette OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion

Color payoff
The color payoff in my opinion is really nice. I had used a nice strong purple from the Kryolan RMG Palette and placed MAC Electra e/s (silver) over it and the purple had turned the silver into this glistening lavendar color. Absolutely gorgeous!

Crease Factor
I'm sorry. When it creases before the hour, I am not all over it. I'm actually still rather hurt that I had allowed myself to be seen under such creasing conditions, lol!!! But seriously. This creased rather easily. Perhaps if I used less or even used my finger for application, there would have been different (better?) results, but I didn't and it didn't deem itself worthy. We're not friends yet...

Ease of use/blending
Due to the creamier nature of the Kryolan Mini RMG Palette, blending does work well.

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242 or 252, or the MAC 239 will work also.

Using it this way is great if you have...
Dry eyelids!

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
eyelids that are oily unless you like showcasing a little fashion streak across the lid. Then by all means, more power to you :)

Overall...
I'll probably give it another shot just to see if I can make it work. But this time, I'm not wearing it out to another special occassion. Nah-uh, nope... hah!

Baby Tyke's Birthday Around the Corner!

Baby Tyke's 1st birthday is just around the corner (already?!) and I need to get the favors done this weekend since the party is next Saturday and Hubbo starts work this Monday. Remember his debut not so long ago? Time sure did fly!

Well, I didn't want to turn his first birthday into a Halloween party since he really should enjoy the day as his own and not in co-ops with a holiday but I just couldn't help but work Halloween into the favors. I mean, why not prep the kids, right? Anyhow, we'll save the full-blown Halloween party for another birthday party if he wants.

The favors are going to be so cute!! Not everything is done but I'll share with you just a little piece of what I've been working on. There isn't much now but there are tons of other cute things to follow.

I'm trying to get a proper head count of all the tiny attendees because I'm planning on personalizing/customizing the Halloween buckets... OOPS!! Did I just slip, hah ;) Mind wandering yet?

Ok, so far I have the name tags printed...

This project is really simple. The only time consuming part is actually cutting the name tags out. And yes, I did cut them EACH out. I have a slight indentation on my thumb from gripping tight on the scissors to maintain control, lol. But basically, I used a Word document, added color and gradient to one of their shape drawings, and typed out each name. Printed it on glossy photo paper and voila!!...

On the beauty flipside, my skin is really disliking the colder weather. It's getting dry yet I'm still oily! Hrmm... combo representin'! ;)

This is my "Incomplete Because I'm Lazy After Lunch" look, haha. I honestly rarely touch-up throughout the day, as you can tell by the lack of lip color. Although I will admit that I blotted with a tissue prior to this shot, I'm not really BFFs with my skin right now :P

Let's Discuss: Do You Prefer Bright/Bold Makeup, Subtle-Colored Approach, or Au-Spankin' Naturale?

Boy! Haven't done one of these in a while!

So, I was looking through the files I did have saved on my portable USB traveler and thought I had some things I could review. After looking file after file, high and lo, I reached my final "AHA moment" and realized... err, I didn't transfer the pictures.

But let's bring it back some.

When it comes to makeup, you and what you see on others, which do you prefer? Bright/Bold, colorful makeup? Some color (but not tooo much) to add some fun? Or jazzin' up the neutral shades?

I personally have a lot of fun putting on bright colorful makeup. The only thing that makes me sway against wearing it all the time is because it's not always everyday friendly. And I have this semi-fear that I'm clashing colors against my skin-tone. Actually, I know I do but I do it for the sake of the color combination. Ehhh, screw it! LOL.

But when I'm not amped for it, you'll see me in the "some color to add some fun" category. A little more bold than suble, but you'll see me wearing more of this when time to apply makeup PERIOD permits. Can never go wrong with a strong lid color and smoking out the corners. I consider that just safe. It can be boring at times but it's a quick middle ground for me.

And those natural days? Still gotta love 'em! Sure we're reaching a world that's saturating each eye with more and more color, but I still adore the looks of what we're already given with just a little brush help, hah. For me, its a little assistance from a MAC Paint Pot, play up those lashes, and fill in that waterline!

But what do I like seeing on others? COLOR! I'm always on the lookout for that color combination that just blows my mind. Where the blending is so well, I feel I need to practice more (which doesn't take much really, hah!). Seriously, though. I love seeing others with just simple or complex masterpieces that literally just make me gawk. And yes, GAWK!

FOTD: Capture the Fall Season with Golden Earthtones

When it comes to Fall Season, especially as we enter Halloween and Thanksgiving, nothing wears more fitting than some golds and browns. Golds are a great color because they capitalize on glamour-fying the eyes while sophisticatingly opening them up. Toss a little brown in there to create some dimension and you've got yourself an easy yet captivating look that deserves that second glance.

I didn't plan on doing my eyes this morning, but I was so jazzed up from last night's session, that I said, "oh, why not? It's Friday anyways!"

Makeup is the best stress reliever! I've been exercising my right to NOT buy makeup (except for kit essentials) and have instead been putting that easily spent cash to some good use.

The overall color combination on this came out pretty well for applying it in a dim room setting. My aunt really liked how well the blue/teal mixed with purple.

Finally! A post with pictures! And not just any pictures... SOME MAKEUP PICTURES!

I'm just posting up some looks I did. Sorry they're not all full face shots. After the tykes knock out on the weekends, I just get the urge to get eye fancy and nothing else. I don't remember what I used in each one, but I have been using my 88-Piece Palette (Shimmer) and the 28-Piece Neutral Palette from Coastal Scents lately and well as my new boatload of MAC pigment samples. I'll try to recall the best I can.

MakeupFix.net Finally on MySpace?

I've had a MySpace account set up for MakeupFix for a few months now but just didn't spend much time on sprucing up the place. Needless to say, it's not decorated any more than just a simple page layout, but I guess it'll do for now until I feel a creative whim on the loose. Thanks Pyzam of always bailing me out!

Site News: Just an update...

Hey y'all!

So, let's talk about the blog and the lack thereof lately. I was doing good when I first started work because I had NOTHING to do and had some pictures to do some blogging with. Using my work time effectively - bad, I know. Whoa... who put Meebo there?!? Hah. I've been aiming to edit my pictures at night after the tykes go to sleep so that I can just port them with me with I go to work, but that just hasn't been happening. Needless to say, when we say "night, night" around here, so do I, lol!

One thing I've been dedicating some time to lately has been Baby Tyke's 1st Birthday! Yah folks! He'll be one next month (*tear*) and I'm trying to plan his party. Thank goodness I have help now that I'm back in CA because this is just beyond me to try and collaborate everything without going nuts.

Another thing that's been happening is I've paired up with a dear friend of mine whom I've known since middle school and we're taking our love for makeup and beauty to a professional level. We've each been available for events and such but are now at the point where we know that this is something we each want to do professionally. We've got a few events in the works for next year and I'm just excited to really have fun with something I enjoy doing. YAY!

Ok.. so back to the blog. My pictures are piling up in my camera because I haven't made the time to transfer them to my laptop. *Laptop Update* It's fixed (aside from the occassional loose adapter that like to suck my battery dry in the matter of 485.3409583 nanoseconds). But aside that slight glitch, it is slower than a hungover turtle even after being reformatted! Let's just say that when I load photoshop or download my photos, I have to walk away and do something so I'm not left going delirious as I watch each part of the screen "unroll" into place. Imagine my pain in formatting my photos ON PHOTOSHOP... ugh. Frustrating? Aw, hell yah! New laptop in the near future? Magic 8-Ball says "ask later".

I'm asking Hubbo to get me a copy of photoshop so that I can do some blogging business at my work computer since it runs much faster than le turtle dell. Running into some problems there currently but I hope that I can get that situated this week. We'll see.

Let's Remember Those On This Day

Seven years ago, we were affected one way or another by a tragic event that will forever be remembered. I get emotional just thinking about the billions of hearts that folded that day as they heard and watched the news and how it hit home for everyone. I remember watching the tv with tears rolling down my face as I watched the same clip over and over again.

I had just left New York two days prior to the attacks and to see the World Trade Center on tv that day was just too surreal for me as that was the exact building I was looking at as I flew out of John F. Kennedy Airport on 9/9.

Tammy's best friend Carlos, has written a beautiful speech in rememberance of this day and I'm compelled to share his great words you:

Today, marks the 7th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Once again today we remember with heavy hearts the nearly 3000 victims who perished as a result of the attacks not only of our home but on the foundations of our freedoms.
We remember, too, with respect and awe those who climbed stairs into fire risking all and those who searched the ruins for survivors, working past their own strength until all hope was exhausted.
Let us honor those who are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedom and show our support for those among us who have the courage to make that faithful choice. Let us manifest our common purpose by renewing our commitment to this nation and, above all, to the values for which it stands.
Together, on this somber day, we think back with sadness, we draw strength from each other and we look ahead with hope. We will always remember! Let us respectfully bow our heads in a moment of silence now to those who lost their lives that day.

Application Review: Using Mixing Medium On Regular Potted Eyeshadows

Mixing medium is a liquid or gel substance which allows you to transform powder or liquid makeup into an alternate form of coverage. For example, one could dampen their makeup brush with mixing medium and convert color eye pigment (loose powder makeup) into a more liquefied form revealing an even more vibrant version of the pigment itself. This particular technique is coined as "foiling". Doing this also allows you to easily apply the color to your eyelids, instead of dealing with messy fallout in its dry/loose form, where it can act as an eyeshadow base or a more intense eyeshadow itself.

Powder and liquid. It's almost a given that those two forms can work well together, right? But can you use mixing medium on already potted (pressed) eyeshadows?

In this world you can do just about ANYTHING and get away with it. What is considered suggestable is really at your discretion. But like many others, I've taken the plunge and dampened an angle brush like the MAC 266 and MAC 208 with mixing medium in the attempt to use my regular potted eyeshadow colors as eyeliners. No Blacktrack Fluidline? Can I offer you some of my Carbon eyeshadow?

Gripes have been raised that doing this can ruin the eyeshadow pot. But before we go there, first things first....

How is the color payoff when using mixing medium on potted MAC eyeshadows?
The color payoff is incredibly more vibrant and intense than trying to apply the eyeshadows dry. I also noticed that I could see the finishes better than when using them dry.

...pretty, eh?

Does foiling with potted eyeshadows ruin the eyeshadow pot?
It does leave a distinct presence no matter the finish of the eyeshadow. Whether it's veluxe pearl or matte, chances are you'll know exactly which part of the pot your brush got in to.

The damage isn't as visible with MAC Gleam, which is a lustre finish MAC eyeshadow, but it can also be due to the color already being on the light side.

As you can see in the rest of these pictures, it is very evident as to the location of where I placed my brush. The bristles leave their mark and I'm left with a section of my eyeshadow that will no longer be the same.

How do you minimize ruining the entire eyeshadow pot if you DO want to use a potted eyeshadow with mixing medium?
Pick an area of the pot you are okay with sacrificing for the great good of the eyeliner. And by this area, I mean the outer edge of the pan. For some odd reason, we as humans like to gravitate towards the middle of the pan. It's the most commonly used area of the eyeshadow that will always hollow out first whether its to load our eyeshadow brush with color or to swatch an eyeshadow color.

Final word: For the sake of preserving these precious gems (and to avoid future makeup tantrums), please use mixing medium on potted eyeshadows responsibly.

New Loot: My Inner Fashionista Says "Holla At Yo' Skirt"!

Although shopping for makeup is something that you can see me doing regularly, going shopping for clothes is a leisurely past-time that has been long gone from my life for quite some time. Sure I've picked up a few shirts here and there since the last time I went REAL shopping (let's think "pre-tyke" days!), but never have I had a real need for a new wardrobe since I had been a stay-at-home-mom (or le wardrobe frump) for a couple years or working part-time which didn't require additional outfits outside the company dress code.

Well, guess what folks. Your MakeupFix Mama has got herself a job and that means some cute fits need a home! And how convenient is it that a whole bunch of cute skirts are hitting the racks this season? Darn bloody good I tell ya!

We took out the squalane and red raspberry which some gals are sensitive to and have added two oils that rarely cause reactions at all, Camellia Oil and Rice Bran Oil! We have kept Watermelon Seed Oil, because it is so great for the skin and also rarely causes a reaction. You could say this is the sensitive version! But this works for any skin type :)

It works perfectly as a base under your mineral makeup. You only need a small amount to cover your entire face.

We suggest using the dab pat smooth method, then letting it dry for about 2-3 minutes before applying your makeup."

My initial reaction to anything costing nearly $20 for a single product that's not a name brand, whether it goes a long way or not, kicks my frugal nature into high-gear. But only after testing any product for some time, can I really attest to how much its worth my dollar. And for the Camellia Rose Skin Smoothing Primer, this price is very much justifiable.

For $24 (even better when it's on sale!), you get 1oz. of the Camellia Rose Skin Smoothing Primer in comparison to spending $36 for Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer which does the same thing. And to ease the price factor in nicely, you're paying less for the same amount of product in Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer AND it has better ingredients for your skin such as Camellia Oil, Watermelon Seed Oil, and Rice Bran Oil!

PACKAGING (based on the 1/2 oz. packaging, not the 1 oz. packaging)
Because I purchased the 1/2 oz. size before it got discontinued, it was packaged in a plastic, squeeze-tube container (as shown above). Personally, I'm not fond of this packaging as it is one of those containers that needs manpower once the final product nears the neck of the opening. The squeezing factor is great because it gives me control as to how much I can dispense but like I said, once it nears the neck, it's very hard to recoop the rest of the product without some serious thumb muscle action! Good call for Jen (Owner of Camellia-Rose.com) to only offer the 1 oz. from here on out which comes in a pump container! Plus, you get your monies worth with the 1 oz. anyways.

PRODUCT TEXTURE
When applying the Camellia Rose Skin Smoothing Primer, it leaves the skin feeling silky soft, velvety and ready for makeup application. The main ingredient that attributes to the feel of this product is Dimethicone, a silicone-based polymer, which is found being used in cosmetics and personal care products for a variety of reasons such as skin conditioning, skin protecting, anti-foaming, hair conditioning, etc... As I apply the primer to my face, it gives an initial mattifying look as it smooths and fills in fine lines.

SMELL

When it comes to products that contain natural ingredients, I've always known there to be some "stinky" ingredients which make the product less sensory-appealing. But with this product, it houses a very subtle aroma of watermelon with a hint of Camellia Oil (which I only know the smell of because I moisturize with it at nighttime) which is not overwhelming at all to the senses. I'm not exactly sure what Rice Bran Oil smells like, but even if it is noticeable, the overall smell is rather pleasant.

I do wish there was a bit more fragrance as the aroma is very subtle, but it's not something I'll be losing sleep over.

APPLICATION METHOD
Jen suggests to use the "dab, pat, smooth" method when using her Skin Smoothing Primer. I find that this method works well for me as does using a duo-fibre skunk brush like the MAC 187.

When using the "dab, pat, smooth" method, it is exactly that - dab, pat, and smooth the product around your face. But always remember that when applying any product to your face using your hands and fingers, to apply gentle pressure so as not to stretch your skin which promotes wrinkles.

When applying with a duo-fibre skunk brush, such as the MAC 187, I place a very small amount of product to the palm of my hand, dab the tips of the bristles in the primer, stipple the product around my face then buff in a circular motion to evenly distribute.

WHAT I LIKE

Little goes a very long way with this product! (Translation: Bang for the buck! YAY!)
It contains natural ingredients like Camellia Oil (hair and skin conditioning properties), Watermelon Seed Oil (moisturizing, quick absorbing, rick in Omega 6 and 9 EFAs, dissolves sebum buildup), and Rice Bran Oil (collagen formation, antioxidant).
The way it makes the skin feel smooth and velvety.
The delicate smell of watermelon.
Didn't break me out.

WHAT I DISLIKE

The 1/2 oz. packaging. This won't matter however because this size will no longer be available.

OVERALL

This is definitely a makeup staple in my book. If you're looking for a makeup primer that is very similar to the touch and feel of Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer but with some natural ingredients that have great benefits (not to mention a waaay better price tag!), you should take some time to go to Camellia-Rose.com and check it out. I actually just placed my order for a 1 oz. bottle and should be receiving it just on time for my birthday! A little treat to myself.

Bay Area Reorientation

Hey there fellow beauty junkies! My laptop is under repair and since Hubbo is very picky as to what gets installed in his laptop, my entries will need to be photo-less until my partner-in-crime-laptop gets back into working condition.

To start this entry off, I've officially been a re-oriented Bay Area Californian now for nearly two weeks! Whoa! But getting here was a whole other story... ready? I sold 90% of our bulky items through Craigslist, donated what wasn't coming, and packed the rest of our belongings into four really big boxes, six carry-ons, and one extra large suitcase in the course of four days. But let's not forget that we barely made our departing flight as it took forever to check in everything we were bringing AND we had arrived to the airport early! As soon as we finally checked in our boxes, we had to check our six carry-ons through security then RUN to the other end of the Earth (because that's where our terminal was!) with our carry-ons, a stroller, and two kids THEN had to pass through the aisles of the plane to reach our seats at the very tail-end of the plane. When we finally got situated and sat down, Hubbo and I looked at each other and said, "I can't believe we just pulled that all off". Then it was 5 lovely hours with the kiddos. (Note to self: I'M NOT DOING THIS AGAIN!! Lol.) As for now, we're staying with family in the meantime until we get our own place to shack it up, but Hubbo, the kids, and I have been adjusting slowly but surely. Yay us :D

What have we been occupying our days with? Actively job-hunting (anyone hiring?), picking up the necessities we didn't bring, getting the kids onto the California time zone, catching up with family and friends, scheduling playdates, grocery shopping, doing some damage at Target, errands, errands, and more errands... did I mention actively job-hunting?? Lol. But with our days always being so packed in, I'm actually surpised that it's already been two weeks.

Do I miss Hawai'i? I miss Hawai'i tremendously. The moist air (translate = no allergies!), the local food, the aloha spirit, cars that don't honk and actually gesture thank you to other curteous drivers, people who are actually pleasant on the phone, lol. But I am enjoying being around great company and familiar surroundings. And boy am I loving Target again and all those Sonia Kashuk brushes!! Haven't bought any yet, but I foresee a few entering the picture in the very near future.

What looks have I been sporting since the arrival? Due to the spontaneity of how our days function, I haven't really found effort to put on any makeup. It's been all natural days for a while now and not even the "faked" natural look! Not to mention, my skin has also been rather upset with me since I've been quite inconsistent on my skin regimen, so I'm sure I've been scaring everything I've encountered, lol.

Well, just thought I'd drop in and let you all know how things have been going so far and that I've been thinking about ya' and I hope that your week has been going great. I appreciate each and every one of you that have kept the good vibes going on during our move as well as the wonderful wishings for this new chapter in our lives.

Reader News: O'ahu Meet & Greet...

Since I will be packing my bags and departing from the island soon, I wanted to know if any fellow readers and beauty bloggers on the island would be interested in a simple O'ahu Meet & Greet! It may be a little short notice since my departure date is nearing, but I thought I'd put it out there because I think it would be an amazing opportunity to meet you folks that are just as addicted to makeup and beauty as I am, if the schedule fits. Sadly, it would be my only gathering with you considering that I'm moving (boo!), but if there are even a few that are interested in meeting (if any!), I'm more than down to get together for a couple of hours.

I'm forecasting for a meeting day the earlier part of next week (Monday or Tuesday, unless y'all are down for this Friday) since I will be departing shortly after. I still have quite a bit of things to take care of, but I definitely want to make time if anyone is willing to participate.

If you're interested, please e-mail me with your availability so I can get an idea as to how many will show up and when everyone is available. From there I can see what schedule we can work out to be accommodating to all. I apologize in advance if the meet-up collides with your availability but I will be more than happy to hook you up with each other (with your consent of course) so you can break out from behind the screen and meet others who enjoy beauty and makeup and live on the island at a future date.
