I had a chance to speak to Mark about the look he created for her and he was very forthcoming, saying that this was the, “happiest emmys of his whole career” and that the looks he created weren’t, “overstyled, or overdone and that the ladies looked comfortable and like themselves”.  I couldn’t agree more!

For Lea Michelle, he used some custom made hair pieces (from garlanddrake.com) that were dyed specifically for her to create a 60′s style Brigitte Bardot look and feel. He didn’t want her to look like her character (who has bangs) split them in the middle and gave her a 60′s feel.

The Rundown:

Celebrity editorial stylist Mark Townsend created a modern and fresh hair look for Lea Michele. “Lea wanted her hair to look touchable and super modern, and full hair with lots of volume and a bit of roughness was perfect against her flawless gown” said stylist Mark Townsend.

Here’s how to get Lea Michele’s look:

• “Lea’s look started with clean hair. She used Dove Daily Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner to give softness and smoothness in the time it takes to use a conditioner.
• “The end-of-Summer timing of the Emmys is a perfect opportunity to play with color. Lea is still shooting episodes of “Glee” so we couldn’t do anything permanent, so I added in a few custom pieces of hair to add dimension and giver her removable highlights for the evening. The result was a golden/coppery effect throughout the ends of her hair.
• “I wanted Lea’s hair to move in all different directions, so I added in Dove Body & Lift Volumizing Mousse throughout damp her and blow dried with a round brush to add lift.
• “Next I sprayed 3 inch sections of her hair with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist right before I used the iron to protect her hair against heat styling damage.
• “I then went in with a 2 inch curling iron to give a subtle bend or “S” curl, rather than a perfect curl. Curl from the ends all the way up, and set each section with a barrel clip for 5 to 7 minutes or until cool.
• “Scrunch hair with Dove Daily Moisture Therapy Replenishing Mist to add moisture and blow dry briefly without a diffuser to look a bit undone.
• “Warm a pea-sized amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream between the palms of hands. Rake fingers through hair to distribute product evenly for shiny, modern texture.
• “To evoke the Bridget Bardot inspiration I teased hair at the crown for extra volume and lift.
• “To finish Lea’s look I sprayed Dove Unscented Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) liberally on a small, natural bristle eyebrow brush (the kind that looks like a wooden toothbrush) and ran it through her bangs to hold middle part. The parted bangs gave a modern update to the 60’s vibe of her hair.
• I gave Lea a 2 oz. can of Dove Unscented Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) and the natural eyebrow brush to take with her in case she needed a touchup.

Celebrity editorial stylist Mark Townsend created an edgy, fashion-forward look for January Jones. “A textured, asymmetrical bob was the perfect way to incorporate January’s love of editorial fashion and runway style into a feminine, yet tough look,” said stylist Mark Townsend.

The Rundown:

• “The night before, use Dove Intensive Repair Damage Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner to strengthen hair and prevent damage.
• “Second day texture was key to achieve this runway-meets-Hollywood look, so I pre-styled her hair the night before. Distribute Dove Curl & Sculpt Defining Mousse throughout and blow dry hair with round brush to add lift
• “Set top sections of hair with large, 3 inch Velcro rollers for 15-20 minutes. While rollers set, add extensions in the front only to make hair longer in the front and shorter in the back.
• “Spritz throughout with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist to protect against styling damage.
• “Wrap 1 ½ to 2 inch sections of hair around a 1 inch curling iron to create a big, loose wave instead of a tight curl.
• “The next day, reapply mousse to add lift to hair, and blow dry gently with a round brush to freshen up ends but not set perfectly.
• “Rake a small amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream through hair to smooth hair.
• “I finished the look by spraying Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) to set the style but still allow movement.”

I was lucky enough to recently test a variety of their delicious smelling, hand cut bars, sugar and salt scrubs, and “Bath Melts”, Bath melts are cute little bath bomb cakes that are wonderfully fizzy. The slight fizzing action helps distribute the oil throughout the water, and the antioxidants present in cocoa butter helps you fight free radicals (one of the leading causes of premature aging in your skin) The ones I tried were delicious Chocolate Mint and Lavender scented. It left my skin glowing and soft, and the scents were understated and fresh.

I always feel as if I must keep a can of Scrubbing Bubbles and a sponge within reach when I use scrubs standing up in the shower. The tub always feels like the Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink when I try to get out!   I tried the Lavender Salt and Cherry Vanilla  Sugar scrub, which both smelled divine, and got the ash off of my heels, knees and elbows!! Because my skin is sensitive, I usually try to keep everything as simple as possible when it comes to body care.  Well guess what, simple ingredients for the Salt Scrub : Demerara sugar, Sweet Almond oil, and lavender essential oil. That’s what I like to see! I don’t want to feel as if I am taking a chemical bath with noxious fumes when I pamper myself in the bath, and with this company, I feel safe.

My lashes were literally “organized” by the brush, fanning them out dramatically, with a lush yet natural look. It is so good that only one coat for daytime is all I needed because with all of the Mommying I have to do all day, I need a shot of eye opening glam in the morning to give me that little confidence and wake up kick! It lasted all day, even in humidity and near the Bay! It really lengthened, separated and de-clumped my wayward lashes! The sleek and shiny tube is very glamorous, and feels good in the hand. The logo is elegant, understated and modern at the bottom of the tube, and has a bold clean CHANEL at the base in front. Word to the wise, one is suppose to actually turn the wand around your lashes as you apply, so that takes some getting used to, but the results are really worth it. Let’s all learn something new, darlings!

The colour I sampled was Smoky Brun which is a beautiful coffee bean brown, but I look forward to trying all of thier “Smokies!” SMOKY NOIR, a greyish hue, SMOKY MARINE, a blue green stunner, SMOKY VIOLINE, an eggplantish hue, and NOIRS OBSCURS which is black. You just know Uncle Karl Lagerfield is behind these eyecatching names…I just love him! What an amazing creative legend…I just know his hand (while fluttering his little black fan) is behind almost everything having to do with the brand, including this amazing “Sculptvolume” brush.

For those of us out there that need that extra oomph to create the perfect lash rack..look no further! Chanel has got it covered for those of us who are not naturally as lashalicious as we would like to be. ; ) Now we can all feel like a fashion model with perfect lashes, or someone who sat in a makeup chair with a famous makeup artist for hours!

Two of the products that stand out for me are the Foaming Cleanser and the Moisture Mist but they have four basic items to the regime (blemish treatment & lip balm round out the collection).  The line is fairly inexpensive as far as skin care goes.  You can get the a la carte ($14-$20 each piece) or in a set for $49 (save yourself some cash and get the set) in “Hope” (normal/oily /problem) or “Dream” (normal/dry/sensitive).  This way all bases are covered….easy to use…very simple steps.  The biggest problem with teen skin is that they are always touching something crazy and they are always touching their faces.

Tips for Great Skin:

• Always wash your hands before you touch your face
• Always take off makeup before bed
• Use skincare religiously (twice daily if possible)

The Rundown:

For a natural complexion, Genevieve used the new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation (launching next month), Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks.  She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums.

To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from our new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad.  Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash.  She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.
