PVS Multiplex opens on 7th April 2012

The first Multiplex in Kozhikode city with six state-of-the-art halls will open on 7th of April. Set in RP mall on Mavoor Road the multiplex will be a relief to movie lovers, who have been denied many releases due to the closing down of many theaters in the city. The opening day will host the following movies:

Hunger Games (English)
Ordinary (Malayalam)
Housefull 2 (Hindi)
The King and the Commissioner (Malayalam)

Titanic 3d is also expected to release shortly here.

Malabar Mahotsavam 2012

The 15th edition of Malabar Mahotsavam, an annual cultural fete of the region, will bagan at a glittering function in Calicut yesterday. The four-day event was inaugurated in the presence of Kerala Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar.

The inaugural function witnessed Ramya Nambeesan enthralling audience at the main venue, the Kozhikode beach, followed by a ‘Ghazal ki Mehfil’ by Bhupindher Singh.

On the second day, Benny Dayal and Sayanora will lead a music programme, also at the main venue.

Theatre festival, classical music and dance fete would also be held at Model School grounds and Tali Heritage Open Stage respectively on the same day.

Literary, folk festivals, Manipuri classical dance and martial art performance would also be staged at different venues.

The concluding day will witness performance by noted singer Hariharan at the beach in the presence of Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran and State Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer, organisers said. (UNI)

CREDAI Calicut Property show starts on January 6th

The 13th edition of the Calicut Property Show organised by the Kozhikode chapter of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers of India (CREDAI) will be held at the Sarovaram Function Hall on January 6, 7 and 8.

As many as 12 builders will be participating in the show. They will also exhibit details on their new projects at Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kochi and Kannur.

Top-class builders will showcase their projects at the show, while financial institutions offer fast and friendly loan schemes. More information about property, finance and other related matters can be had from the show.

KFC Calicut Closed over Protests

It has been hardly two weeks since the latest rage in town, the KC outlet on bank road, opened and it had to be closed down on Wednesday after protests from various groups over its management of waste disposal. Activists from various corners got together in front of the outlet along with a collection of all the wastes allegedly dumped by KFC all over the city.

Not the ideal start after whooping business in the first two weeks. Lets hope that KFC will sort out this mess and get back rolling soon

Lightning private bus strike at Calicut

Private bus services to different destinations from Kozhikode was interrupted yesterday following a flash strike by crew in protest against confiscation of some vehicles here yesterday. It started with the crew of private buses in Kozhikode-Thrissur who started a lightning strike demanding release of eight buses seized by the traffic police on a complaint by a passenger that he was denied entry into a bus proceeding to Thrissur yesterday.

The situation was aggravated with more crew of buses plying to Thrissur, Palghat and Guruvayur joining the stir, the sources said, adding agitatiors also prevented buses proceeding to Kannur, Basullsery and Kuttiyadi, among others, causing much inconvenience to the passengers. However, normalcy was restored after about four hours following settlement of the issues in discussions with senior traffic police officers, representatives of the operators and employees.

This has been a regular scene in Calicut and does not look like its going to end any time soon.
