Not a day goes by that I don't see a story about making money on the Internet with a blog.

It goes something like this:

Step 1: Start writing a blog
Step 2: Put some Google ads on it
Step 3: Sit back and start counting the money

This pitch isn't just limited to the spam that comes pouring into my in-box every day. It often comes from industry publications and reputable Marketing organizations.

But is it true? Is this a gold rush? eMarketer estimates that online ad spending will grow, even in this down economy, to an impressive $24.5 billion this year. That is a lot of dough, and surely some of it will go to the bloggers. But how much? Let's do some math.Just to thumbnail sketch the landscape, there are well over 50 million unique sites and blogs out there that have some sort of measurable traffic... quadruple that number if you count the sites and blogs that have never seen a visitor. But for the sake of argument let's call it an even 50 million. What would happen if I could magically split the pot of $25 billion evenly among all sites? We would get $500 each.

It won't even pay your Comcast Internet bill.But traffic on the Web is not divided evenly, and neither are the dollars.

The top sites get more than their share. Take a look at the chart on the right for a peek at how traffic is divided up on the web. The Top 100K sites, which represent just a tiny fraction of all the sites on the web (less than .2%) get almost 75% of the traffic. And top sites have sales people who can make sales calls, take ad buyers out to lunch and put together fancy PowerPoint slides. Never underestimate the power of a good PowerPoint slide.

Those top sites are going to take the lion's share of that $25 billion.Let's take a look at this from another angle. I read an estimate in eMarketer today that the average price for online advertising is currently $2.50 for a thousand impressions (called CPM in the industry parlance.) But that includes the premium prices that the Top Sites charge. What kind of prices do the smaller sites get for their advertising? Pubmatic can tell you in their Quarterly Ad Price Index. Pubmatic manages the advertising for thousands of sites, large and small, so they have some pretty good data. The answer is $.61.That means that you will get paid 61 cents for every thousand page views on your blog. You can put 4 ads on your blog, bringing your take home to $2.50 per thousand, but beware because you may lose your readers if you overdo it. How many thousands of page views does your blog have per month?

Let's take one of the much touted success stories, The Daily Coyote. The Daily Coyote is a fine blog and the author, Shreve Stockton, takes beautiful photos and has a real passion for her topic. I checked a number of different sources for The Daily Coyote's estimated traffic, and came up with 90,000 page views per month. Assuming the page view count is right, how much does The Daily Coyote bring in?: (90,000 page views per month) * ($2.50 per thousand views) = $225.00 per month. For additional context her blog has an Alexa Rank of 157,000, which is impressive by most standards, and a nearly impossible goal for all but the most successful bloggers.

Speaking of successful bloggers, let's take a look at Om Malik's blog. Estimates say he gets about a million views per month. So, assuming he makes typical CPMs (I would bet he does a bit better...), how much money does this highly successful blog with an Alexa Rank of 13,000 bring in? $2500 per month.So, what is a poor blogger to do? Do it for the love, not the advertising dollars. Or use your blog to promote something that actually does make money, like a plumbing business, or a bike rental shop.

If you do it because you think there is some sort of gold rush going on with advertising dollars on blogs you should think again.

Note :
It is never easy to make money blogging from Internet, but this is only your first step into making money from Internet, I truely believe if you don't start you will never going to make it. Just try and experience it, its better than just sit down and reading without doing anything at all.

Some of you might be asking for SEO ( Search Engine Optimizer ) and I am sorry, I cannot teach you anything about that as I am not familiar with that. You can search google and there are a lot of information for your to read.

What I have sharing with you here is something that you can do to promote your Blog.

1) Email it to your group of friends, tell them about the blog and ask them to forward it to their friends. If you have a very good content or information, I am sure they will definately help you to broadcast the message.

2) Use social network such as facebook, friendster, Myspace etc to inform your group of friends about your blog.

3) Participate in forum discussion related to your blog. For example if you blog is about lossing weight, participate in forum related to girls, image, lossing weight etc.

4) Visit others blog related to your blogs, leave a comment and share your opinion.

5) Submit your Blog to Google, Yahoo, MSN and Others Blog Directory.

Introduce your new blog is easier than getting your visitor to return to your blog. You need good contents in order to keep them coming back. Please post content related to your topic of focus and regulary. So that your visitor will be coming back regulary to look for more information.

As for the SEO, that is very important and a lot of study needed to understand the whole structure. Do spend some time to goolge it from Internet.

It doesn't matter you want to make money by selling a product or advertisement revenue, having a website or blog is definately helpful.

You need to do create website just like http://www.parttime.com.my/ or you can create a Blog like http://www.malaysiainternetmoney.blogspot.com/.

The different between the two is a normal website needs programing skill and you need to purchase a domain or you might call it an address in Internet world. for example parttime.com.my is a domain, google.com is a domain.

Why some domain comes with .com.my and some just .com ? The domain .com.my belongs to Malaysia, the domain .com.cn belongs to China, the domain .com.sg belongs to Singapore, the domain .com belong to USA.

The .com domain is available for everyone in the world and it cost USD10 per year. Malaysia domain with the extension .com.my cost RM100 a year and only available for company registeration.

Besides domain, which is the address of your website, you need to have a hosting site to keep your website, just like you want to open a retail outlet, you need to rent a place at the shopping mall. The hosting fees will cost you about RM200-300 a year.

So if you would like to have your own domain present in the internet then you need to folk out about RM300 a year.

With your own domain, you are free to do any marketing activities such a affiliate program and no restriction on the blog or website design. The most important note is that you own the rights of the domain, that means you can sell this domain to another party.

If you were to use the Blogger free hosting blog, then you are bond to Blogger's policy, fixed template design and you do not own any rights on the domain. That means you cannot sell the blog to another party. But the advantage is FREE and EASY to setup.

If you are reading this post, I belive you are a beginner just like me, I do have have any programing language knowledge as well. So, I recommend you to use a method which does not need any programing language as a start. You may move on to have your own domain when you are ready.

Like I mentioned in the previous post, please find out what is the content of your blog. Content will keep your visitor coming back again and again to look for more information. So it is good to have some basic idea what is the content before you register a name.

Once they purchase the product recommended by you, the supplier of the product will pay a commission to you. Your job is to recommend and convince the visitor to purchase; the supplier will do all the logistic handling.

But how ? The best answer is "learn" from the guru from Internet.

Making money from Internet is not rocket science but you need to put in a lot of effort.

I started learning making some money from Internet about 6 months ago by creating www.PartTime.com.my, a part time job portal to help fellow Malaysian looking for part time job and till today, I am still learning, learning and learning.

I spend a lot of time reading article from Internet and let me assure you that you can make money from Internet, because I made it.

Again, How ? Who should I learn from ? The answer is "Google".

Use google to search what you want to know from Internet and learn from all the successful people who had made money from Internet.

If you think there is an easy way to do it, just follow some step like mentioned in some of the Internet Money ebook, I am sorry to tell you that you are going to fail. Trust me, you need to do it yourself and really put in effort to study and learn, then I can assure you that you will definately make some money from Internet.

What I am doing here is not recommend you to buy any ebook or video to help you to success, because there are plenty of free material available from Internet, all you have to do is ask Mr.Google.
