Today is my last Mama’s Boy blog on parenting.com I had a fun, successful two years and leaving this blog feels bittersweet, but right. In 2010 when I left glamour.com I had a mini meltdown. Glamour and glamour.com completely lifted me up and made me the writer and blogger I am today.

Hello, I just got back from a fashion event in New York City where a publicist said I looked like I was 18 and couldn’t be a mom (I love her). However, I am a mom! Here, 11 things that prove it:

1. Someone says “you smell amazing” and you realize they are totally getting a whiff of the anti-lice rosemary leave-in conditioning spray you compulsively spray in your hair thanks to that preschool note.

2. You turn on the TV and it’s automatically on a cartoon channel.

3. You never leave home without antibacterial wipes, a juice box and snack.

Today is Uncle Carlo’s 33^rd birthday. I shall take a moment to address some things…

My parents brought me home on Christmas Eve 1980 and placed me under the Christmas tree. Carlo was not thrilled with his new present.

A few months later I wouldn’t stop crying so he bit me and then confessed to my (crying) Mother, “I bit her, she wouldn’t stop crying.” And so it began.

Carlo was notorious for cutting my Barbie dolls' hair and stealing my diary. I cried often as a child. He told his friend I got my period. OK, people! OK!!!

I count myself lucky that JD asks about his dad, but doesn’t cry or beg for him. He cries and begs for me. This is because he doesn’t know his Dad, I don’t bring him up and I provide a loving, safe modern family lifestyle. But this weekend at T-Ball I saw a fellow Mom struggling with a non-cooperating little boy and felt her pain.

“I want Daddy!” he said, throwing his glove on the grass. It was damp and misting.

“Get on the field,” the Mom said.
