So, some mates and I are throwing our second swing party and it’s going down this Saturday. The first one (last November) was easily the most rammed, all-locals show I’ve seen and was definitely one of the best shows I’ve played, let alone partied at. We’re hoping the excitement continues, obviously.

I’m feeling a bit late to the party on this one, as this EP has been sitting here begging me to review it for far too long. Released on 29 April, Sycophant is the first single on the label after the much touted album from label boss Dan Price to introduce the label.

Dan Price – Sycophant (Original Mix) has a nice chuggy undertone, with beautifully syncopated deep drums, making for an overall quality tune. Alex Costa is on remix duty for the second tune of the EP, bringing his signature high energy, serious techno vibe to the original. Properly tweaking for the late late night crowd, the breakdown in the remix trims down to next to nothing before giving a gut punch worth of bass.

The truly nice thing about this EP is that both the remix and original could have a place in my sets, purely dependent on just how riled up the crowd are at that point.

Keep on the watch for big things from Fracas and Dan Price…I’ve heard of some major compilation inclusions for his recent releases, and I’m sure that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Manalogue is proud to promote a new remix competition for PARACHUTE YOUTH’s debut single “Can’t Get Better Than This.”

We teamed up with Warner Music and WAVO, the social network for music, for the competition in anticipation of Parachute Youth’s upcoming debut album. We’re challenging producers of all sorts to put forward their best remix of “Can’t Get Better Than This” which is already smashing charts globally.

The winner, judged by Parachute Youth and A&R scouts from Warner Music, will see their creation receive an official release on Warner Music accompanied by a proper servicing campaign, and marketed across the entire Wavo network. PROCESS

• Grab the stems from the “Can’t Get Better Than This” microsite
• Alternatively if you’re having issues downloading the stems from the link above, you can grab them here
• Submit remixes via the remix microsite by 12 PM ET on May 20th with the title “Parachute Youth Remix Contest”
• The remix must be original and cannot contain any materials not owned by the entrant (except for material from “Can’t Get Better Than This” stems)

JUDGING

• From May 21-27, promote your track
• 10 tracks will be chosen based on their rank in the chart
• 10 tracks will be be chosen by us irrespective of rank, giving producers without a fan-base a chance to win based on quality production
• These 20 Finalists will be announced on May 28th and featured Wavo
• The second round of judging will consist of a panel of A&R reps from Warner Music, Wavo teams such as ours, and Parachute Youth themselves
• Each submission will be listened to and judged on the basis of creativity, originality and overall production

PRIZE

• One winner will be selected and have their track featured on an official Warner Music release, accompanied by a proper servicing campaign

When I think of dj culture in Winnipeg, JOE SILVA is always at the top of the list. Joe’s been djing and producing in our small city for a long minute and is one of the pioneers of our deep and varied dj culture here. His live sets are incredible, in addition to twiddling way too many knobs to count, he also pounds on electronic drums.

Joe is also half of TONEPUSHERS (the other half being ALI KHAN) who are getting some massive hype for their rich and brooding productions.

At such a young age, CEDRIC GERVAIS has accomplished more than most could ever dream of doing in a lifetime. After leaving school at the very tender age of 15, the Frenchman gained residencies in some of France’s biggest clubs. A few years later he transplanted to Miami where his career exploded even further.

Here we have a brand new progressive track, featuring vocals by Howard Jones. This one’s ripe for summer – watch for it to drop on Spinnin’ Records.

OFF RECORDINGS presses yet another impressive collection of tracks in this new installment, tapping into Brazil’s underground talent. Sao Paulo resident DASHDOT, who provides the single “Booty Clap”, a thunderous stomper with a deep low end bump to light any dancefloor on fire.

OFF family regulars, TAPESH & DAYNE S, who released the top seller Got To Live EP,are deluxe guests here, bringing their remix flavour with a calypso-infused bassline.

The second track from the land of caipirinha and futebol comes from production team RE DUPRE and ANGELO FRACALANZA. “L.O.V.E.” broods darkness in its depth and the Biggie samples put this one into position for one of the top tracks of 2013.
