Finally Cydia Ported to iOS 7

We finally have our first glimpse of what Cydia looks like on jailbroken iOS 7, and although we’re still quite a bit of a distance away from an untethered jailbreak across the board, it’s good to have a sneaky preview of the work currently in progress.

With every new iOS release, attentions quickly turn to the jailbreak scene, and with MuscleNerd having recently stepped out and assured existing iOS 7.x users that it was safe to update to iOS 7.0.2 earlier this week, we at least know that work is being done to make the jailbreak an eventual reality.

Cydia for iOS 7 certainly doesn’t look the smooth, finished article to which we are accustomed, but it’s encouraging enough just to see it running on the latest and greatest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. iOS developer Cjori has been working very hard in trying to tap into the newly-released firmware, and below, you’ll be able to see the screenshots of Cydia in action on Apple’s new mobile OS running on A4-based limera1nable iPhone 4.

Cjori told Redmond Pie that he used OpenSn0w to tether-jailbreak iOS 7 on A4 based iPhone 4. Cydia was recompiled from source with the iOS 7 SDK and he manually debugged all of the issues encountered using various UNIX tools. When asked if he will be releasing this iOS 7 compatible Cydia along with instructions on how to tether-jailbreak iOS 7, he said that while Cydia itself seems to be stable, a lot of the things revolving around it and jailbreak in general are very unstable, therefore he does not plan on releasing it at this point, but he might do so in future once things are fixed.

We’ve all heard of Jay Freeman, although some will know him better as Saurik. He’s the man behind Cydia, the man responsible for housing all of those wonderful jailbreak apps and tweaks that anyone in the jailbreak community loves. But, how much do we know about the man himself? What else has he done ?

To be honest, not much is known about his early life, mainly because he prefers to keep his personal life out of the limelight. From 2004 to 2009 he was a PhD student at the University of California but still took the time out to take on Apple, to try to beat them at their own game.

About Cydia :

Cydia was first released in 2008, February to be precise, as an alternative to Apple’s installer app (AppStore App ). By 2009 Freeman estimated that around 10% of the then iPhone owners had installed it on their devices. By 2011 Cydia was reporting annual revenue of around $10 million with a net profit of about $250,000. At that time 4.5 million people were using it weekly.

Freeman isn’t just responsible for Cydia. He’s been a busy man over the years; he has his ownCydiaRepo, called Telesphoreo Tangelo and is responsible for the creation of Winterboard. Just recently he has been very active and has made several discoveries.

A little while ago he purchased Google Glass and promptly rooted it, although he called it jailbreaking. He has created a Cydia Substrate for Android, giving developers their own platform on which to customize their apps and software. And, his most notable discovery to date is a fix for the “Android Master Key” bug. This is a bug that was discovered by BluBox Labs and has been doing the rounds for 4 years, potentially infecting millions of Android devices. The fix can be found on his website.

While it’s acceptable that iOS has gone somewhat stale over the years – without any major overhauls to the interface – there’s plenty of scope for new features to be added to make iOS 7 interesting. Apple does introduce some new features every time it upgrades the firmware. But it isn’t always as interesting as the concept features that one sees across the web.

These iOS 7 features are curated from across the world. Made from designers who think right out of the box to introduce more power to iOS 7, some of these concepts are awesome. It would be great to see Apple accept these and build it right into iOS 7 features but only time will tell.

1. iOS 7 Smart Lockscreen :

Mohamed Kerroudj, a designer, has given a major overhaul to the lockscreen, empowering it with more actions that you can imagine. At first glance, it’s a bit overwhelming because you can almost do a lot of stuff from the lockscreen. It basically beats the purpose of having a lockscreen but what the heck. It’s cool!

2. Dockless Springboard :

The dock is a permanent fixture on the iPhone and other iOS devices. How about getting rid of it for something better? You still have the ability to access favorite (or frequently-used) apps instantly but in a typical modernist fashion. This concept from iPhoneSoft shows you how the iOS 7 concept would look like.

4. Circular Lockscreen with Toggles :

This is a bold and daring lockscreen concept for iOS 7 – something that I’m sure won’t find its place in Apple’s redesign of the next mobile operating system. But it’s definitely something that Cydia tweak developers should take a shot at. This lockscreen, as is clear from the screenshot above, is power-packed. There’s toggles which let you access messages, music, Twitter, Instagram and almost any other app. And of course, shortcuts for camera, volume and DND exist too.

5.Quick Settings :

Cameron’s QuickSettings iOS 7 concept is awesome and beyond words. It’s a simple feature – so simple that you wonder why Apple didn’t put that on the iPhone. A drag-up (opposite to the drag-down for NC) reveals a page full of settings toggles. Currently, you either use NCSettings or SBSettings which resides in the NC but this one is a separate interface specifically intended for settings toggles.

6. Multitasking on iOS 7 :

Jesse Head designed a unique iOS 7 concept interface which does a complete overhaul of the multitasking feature in iOS. In fact, it’s so overhauled that the real multitasking now available on iOS seems obsolete. As the designer mentions himself, the present feature is more or less ‘app switching.’

In this concept, the designer imagines the iOS 7 multitasking interface as a series of slides with the app (just like how you get in the iPad). Also, there’s prime controls (music playback, volume) and a search bar. The live titles thing is a real charm. All said and done, this is another feature Apple is definitely not going to apply. But I just hope someone takes this up (like they did with Auxo).

P0sixninja Confirmed Will Hold Back His Jailbreak Exploits for iOS 7

P0sixninja has revealed that he will not be using his jailbreak exploits to release a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3; rather, he will be holding them back for iOS 7 or iOS 7.1.
Yesterday, the hacker tweeted that the 'the next jailbreak might be created entirely by me' saying that he had discovered all the needed exploits over the past few months.
Commenting to iDesignTimes, p0sixninja says that he will definitely not release for iOS 6.x.

"I will at least wait for 7.0, if not even 7.1"
To that he added:
"I've ... been working on it [a while]. Some of them [vulnerabilities] were ideas I had years ago, but everyone said I was crazy, and I've just started looking into them more and realizing I was right..."

How To jailbreak iOS 6.1.1 Untethered

The iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 firmware was released by Apple this week and although many people thought for sure Apple had patched the exploit used by Evasi0n to Jailbreak iOS 6.x Untethered, the fruit company actually didn’t. This is not to say that in future beta iterations of iOS 6.1.1 Apple won’t patch the exploit, but as of right now iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 can still technically be Jailbroken Untethered.

If you have an A4 device such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch 4th generation and want to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.1 beta Untethered you will be glad to know a workaround has been created by iMast777. As such, in this tutorial you will learn how to Jailbreak your A4 iOS device Untethered running iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 using RedSn0w and Evasi0n.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.1 Beta 1 Untethered

Step 1:The first thing you will need to do is download RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 for either Mac OS X or Windows. You will also need to download your corresponding iOS 6 firmware file, and of course be running iOS 6.1.1 beta 1, which is available from the iOS Dev Center.

Step 2:Once you have downloaded RedSn0w 0.9.15b3 you will need to extract it by right clicking on the zip file and then clicking the extract to folder option (on Mac OS X this should be done automatically).

When RedSn0w has been extracted, on Windows, find the redsn0w.exe file, right click on it and click the Run as administrator option (if applicable). On Mac OS X double click on the Redsn0w app. Keep in mind that to launch RedSn0w on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion you will need to hold down the control button, click the RedSn0w and then click the Open option.

Step 3:With RedSn0w up and running you will need to click the Extras button, followed by the Select IPSW button. Once you click the Select IPSW button, select your devices iOS 6.0 firmware file and then go back to the main menu and click the Jailbreak button. Simply follow the on-screen instructions presented to you to complete the Jailbreak.

Step 4:Once the Jailbreak has completed you will need to once again go into the Extras section and select your devices iOS 6.0 firmware file. Once you have selected it, click the Just Boot button and follow the on-screen instructions to boot your device into a Jailbroken state. You have to do this because right now it is a tethered Jailbreak.

Step 5:With your device Jailbroken you will be required to install iFile from Cydia.

Step 6:Once iFile has been installed, navigate to the following directory:

System/Library/CoreServices

Step 7:When you are in the directory shown above find the SystemVersion.plist and open it in the text viewer.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you should see something along the lines of:

<string>6.1.1</string>

You will want to change this to:

<string>6.1</string>

When this is done tap the save button in the top right hand corner of the screen.

Step 8:Once you have changed the version number, launch Cydia again and install the Evasi0n 6.0-6.1 Untether package. When this has installed reboot your device and you will have an Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 6.1.1 beta 1. The last thing you will need to do is repeat step 7 and change your firmware version number back to 6.1.1.

That’s it folks! Unfortunately this only works on A4 devices at the moment because it involves having to be Jailbroken tethered first. If Apple doesn’t patch Evasi0n’s exploit in the final release of iOS 6.1.1 then you can expect the tool to be updated. There is a very slim chance of this happening however, as Apple is likely trying to patch the bug as fast as possible.

The long time waiting finally is over, and the evasi0n jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch devices running iOS 6.0 to iOS 6.1 has just been released by the evad3rs. The jailbreak also supports the second generation Apple TV.

Step 1: Download evasi0n for Windows via our downloads page, and extract the zip file.

Step 2: Right click on the evasi0n.exe file and select Run as administrator. If a user access control windows pops up, choose yes.

Step 3: Make sure your device passcode is disabled, if you ever set one up. To disable your passcode lock, go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > and choose Turn Passcode Off.

Step 4: Plug in your iDevice to your PC. Note that evasi0n will jailbreak any device running iOS 6 and above, except of course the Apple TV.

Step 5: Evasi0n should now show that it has detected your device. Once your device has been detected, the Jailbreak button will be activated and clickable.

Step 6: To begin the jailbreak process, click the Jailbreak button.

Step 7: Evasi0n will now proceed through several steps. Among other steps, it will prepare jailbreak data, reboot the device, upload Cydia, inject jailbreak data, and upload the Cydia packages list. This is probably the more time consuming part of the jailbreak process. Just sit back, and wait for evasi0n to take care of it all.

Step 8: Evasi0n will now ask you to unlock your device. On the Lock screen, Slide toUnlock your device, and you will see a new app icon on your Home screen named “Jailbreak”. Tap this Jailbreak app icon once (make sure to only tap it once), and the screen should go black and then return to the Home screen immediately. Again, make sure you only tap the Jailbreak icon once.

Step 9: Evasi0n will continue displaying messages such as injecting jb data, and Root Filesystem successfully remounted. Again, be patient and don’t touch anything.

Step 10: Once the jailbreak process has completed, evasi0n will tell you that you are “Done.” You iphone, iPod touch or iPad will now reboot. The first reboot will take longer than usual, so once again, be patient during this one-time setup. Note that your iOS device may reboot more than once. There is nothing wrong here, so no panic!

Step 11: You should now see a large evasi0n logo showing on your iOS device screen. It should appear once or twice briefly, and then stay on for a bit longer. Finally, you’ll be taken to your Lock screen. From there, you can Slide to Unlock your iOS device and you should see the Cydia icon on your Home screen.

Congrats, your iOS device is now jailbroken on iOS 6 using evasi0n for Windows!

Cydia Will Be Better Prepared For The Influx Of Traffic on iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak

It seems that with every major untethered Jailbreak Cydia’s servers, as well as many other big repositories will be extremely sluggish or in some cases go offline due to the mass influx of traffic. As such, a general rule of thumb used to be Jailbreak your device and then wait a couple days before you can reliably use Cydia. It looks like this will be less of a problem for the release of the iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak however, as Saurik has chimed in on a Reddit thread that a ”pre-primed Cydia” version of Cydia will be deployed upon Jailbreak your device.

This pre-primed version of Cydia will already have a package catalog from all of the default repositories, this means that it does not need to do a full refresh cycle (which is what really pummels the repositories during new jailbreaks). Untethered Jailbreak Confirmed Working With iOS 6.1 Final, May Sunday Release

Planetbeing has confirmed that their untethered jailbreak works with new iOS 6.1 final firmware released by Apple today.

iOS 6.1 appears to be vulnerable to the exploits we are planning on using. :)

In terms of code, we have two proof of concepts that we need to merge and polish, so we will not be ready to release until that and testing.

Notably, MuscleNerd has hinted that the team might release the jailbreak on Superbowl Sunday.

Pimskeks of the Evad3rs Dev-Team reveals that those looking to apply the new iOS 6.1 jailbreak should update to the firmware using iTunes.

If you people plan to upgrade to iOS 6.1 please don't do an OTA upgrade. Please make a full restore using iTunes.

Just moments ago Planetbeing confirmed that their untethered jailbreak works with new iOS 6.1 final firmware released by Apple today and MuscleNerd hinted that the jailbreak will be released this Sunday.

MuscleNerd offers some insight as to why this is necessary, "a few reasons: OTA is more time consuming for us to test, and it gives you different SHSH blobs than normal restore."

Untethered Jailbreak iOS 6.0.2 on iPhone 5

Yeah, I’m not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it’s not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there’s no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won’t break.
Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there’s gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.
This is not stuff I want to say over Twitter with 140 characters because I’m afraid of starting some sort of riot, but I like the smaller /r/jailbreak community more. ;)

Fix Windows 8 Restart and Shutdown Problems by Disabling “Hybrid Shutdown” Feature

There are many Windows 8 users who are complaining about various restart and shutdown issues. Many times their Windows 8 computers restart themselves as soon as the login screen appears. Sometimes their computer systems hang while rebooting or shutting down the system.

Most of the times these kind of issues are related with the new "Hybrid Shutdown" feature introduced in Windows 8. Hybrid shutdown feature of Windows 8 decreases the total startup time by hibernating the kernel session instead of closing it which reduces the overall Windows loading time because resuming from hibernated system session is very less work compared to a full system initialization.

But this new feature is causing problems to some computer systems and if you are also facing reboot or shutdown problems in Windows 8, you can fix it by disabling this new hybrid shutdown feature and doing a complete shutdown.

Just follow these simple steps:

1. If you are on new Start Screen, type power and Windows will automatically search for the term and will show you the results.

If you are on Desktop, move your cursor to top-right corner of screen to access new Charms Bar. Now click onSearch option and type power in search box.

2. Now click on Settings link given in right-sidebar of search results page and then click on "Change what the power buttons do" link given in the search results as shown in following screenshot:

3. It'll open Power Options window. You can alternatively open the same window by typing powercfg.cpl in RUN dialog box and press Enter and then click on the "Change what the power buttons do" link given in left sidebar.

Now scroll down to bottom and you'll see "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" option given in Shutdown settings section as shown in following screenshot:

4. Disable the option by unchecking the checkbox and then click on "Save Changes" button.

5. That's it. Restart your system and your reboot or shutdown problems should get fixed in Windows 8.

NOTE: If the above solution doesn't fix your problem, you can try to execute following command in Command Prompt. Open Command Prompt as Administrator by right-click on the bottom-left corner and select the same option from the Win+X menu:

The above mentioned command used to fix a very annoying freezing issue found in Windows 8 Release Preview build. According to Microsoft the issue was fixed in Windows 8 RTM but if you are still facing the issue, you can try the command.

Google Chrome Allows You to Pin Website Shortcuts on Windows Taskbar, Start Menu and Desktop

Did you know Google Chrome comes with a similar feature? Actually its a very old feature present in Google Chrome but very few people are aware of it. Thanks to our reader "Aditya" for reminding us about this feature.

Google Chrome allows you to add any website shortcut to Windows Taskbar, Start Menu or Desktop. If you don't know about this feature and want to know how to add a website shortcut to Windows Taskbar, Start Menu or Desktop using Google Chrome, check out following simple steps:

1. Open your desired website in Google Chrome and click on Wrench icon present in the end of Chrome toolbar.

2. Now select "Tools -> Create application shortcuts" option.

3. It'll open a new dialog box where you can select the desired location to put website shortcut. You can create the shortcut in following 3 places:

Desktop
Start Menu
Pin to Taskbar

4. After selecting the desired location, click on "Create" button.

That's it. Chrome will create the shortcuts in your selected locations and will launch the website in a special view of Chrome which shows only the title bar and doesn't show tabbar or toolbar.

You can press "Ctrl+T" keys together or right-click on title bar and select "Open browser window" option to open a normal Chrome window.

With barely a hint of CGI, it is another cerebral blockbuster spawned from his and his brother Jonathan's creative minds. Rather than taint his canvas with pixelated and shallow happenings, sequences feature tens of thousands of extras and tanks roaming around Wall Street.

Character supersedes carnage, though, in The Dark Knight Rises. The franchise's returning actors, from headliner Christian Bale to the poignant Alfred as played by Michael Caine, offer reliable continuity, with the emotion effectively augmented by Hans Zimmer's sombre score.Tom Hardy is suitably brutal as Bane

Concern over Tom Hardy's voice as Bane in the prologue is extinguished, albeit poorly in the opening skyjacking scene. The dubbing of his tone in the first six minutes prompted sniggers, but it is the only time the bulking baddie has his vocal chords altered.

Hardy is perhaps the most fearful Batman film villain depicted on screen. Although his face is almost entirely covered by a mask, his hulking physique and shark-like eyes have you fretting for the Dark Knight's well-being. The raw sound of those brutal hand-to-hand combat sequences are the film's centrepiece moments.Anne Hathaway is appealingly cunning as Catwoman

As iconic as Bale's vigilante is, he is, however, overawed by a member of the rogues gallery again. Not Hardy's Bane, but Anne Hathaway's capricious Selina Kyle: a sly and wry grifter whose dialogue is delivered with alluring confidence as she emasculates the majority of men she encounters.

Some plot strands, to those accustomed to comic book lore, aren't thinly veiled enough, which is a disappointment for a Nolan film, while the middle act is bereft of an adrenaline-inducing money moment akin to the previous film's chase sequence.

But Nolan has again succeeded in delivering his audience an enthralling spectacle, relying on the weight of emotion rather than the element of surprise or anarchy. It's the trilogy The Batman deserves.

The ASUS PadFone and the Transformer Pad Infinity tablet got a lot of praise lately, especially for the quality of their materials, nifty design and originality. So, why not have ASUS make a cool smartphone? Bob Freking takes on this task and designed the beautiful ASUS ZenPhone, that he calls “the Transformer Infinity Phone”.

As you can see, this model borrows a lot from the ASUS PadFone, the facade and the back reminds me of the Infinity tablet, so it’s a hybrid between them. The ZenPhone uses 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a Super IPS+ 4 inch display. At the back there’s an 8 megapixel backside illuminated camera with flash. The device’s chassis involves a brushed metal coating, that’s only 8.5mm thin. Under the hood there’s an overpowered 1.9 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor.

Android 4.0 is the OS of choice, with the option to upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the future. So, if you loved the Transformer Prime/Infinity, now there’s a phone version concept. For 4G units, the Tegra 3 CPU will be swapped with a dual core Snapdragon S4, as customary. I have to say I’d buy such a device in heartbeat, since I prefer metal for the chassis of phones instead of plastic. Do you?

On July 6, 1957, John Lennon, the leader of a band called the Quarry Men, was introduced to Paul McCartney, through a mutual friend, Ivan Vaughan, at Woolton Parish Church, where the Quarry Men were scheduled to perform. Impressed by McCartney's ability to play and tune a guitar, Lennon soon asked McCartney to join the Quarry Men. McCartney accepted. Shortly after McCartney joined the group, he began to recommend an old school friend to Lennon. Lennon refused to even audition this friend because he was only 14. However Lennon finally relented, and on February 6, 1958 he auditioned George Harrison. After playing Raunchy Harrison became the newest member of the group. John Lennon’s closest friend Stuart Sutcliffe, on bass guitar and Pete Best the drummer, also constituted the band.

On April 10,1962, Stuart Sutcliffediedin Hamburg of a brain haemorrhage. After several failed attempts at different recording studios, the Beatles were able to land a recording session with Parlophone , but the group' drummer Pete Best had to go. The Beatles asked Ringo Starr, drummer for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes to join the group. Unfamiliar with this new drummer, Beatles producer George Martin refused to allow Ringo to drum and Andy White played for the group. Andy's career with the Beatles was short lived as the group insisted on Ringo for all future recording and performances. With Ringo at their side the Beatles went on to conquer the world.

Releasing album after album and motion pictures, The Beatles were indeed on top of the world. But in August 1969 Lennon announced that he wanted a divorce from the group, the band was finished. He insisted, however, that the break up remain quiet. It was kept hidden until April 10, 1970 when McCartney decided to formally dissolve the group. Many blamed the break up of the Beatles on Yoko Ono and Linda McCartney. Others felt that the Beatles had run their course, and it was just their time. Whatever was the cause of their break up, it ended an era but left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
