Back with another thrifting tip I have been wanting to share for sometime now,I consider myself a professional thrift shopper at this point. I don't know how I should feel about that self-made accomplishment, I probably have a thrift shopping problem, but that's for another post. When it comes to racing down the goodwill lanes, I never usually walk away with a basket full of just clothing. Most recently I consistently buy at least 1 or 2 toys. My son is super curious and very adventurous when it comes to a new toy, so 1.99 and 99 cent is always a good buy for out-grow able toys (is that even a word???).

I also have managed to furnish 85-95% of my home via thrifting,yard sales, flea markets,and most certainly craigslist and I am not a person that minds good high quality used items. I am not fickle about something being used, there are people who are, but for everyone else that loves a good deal and does not mind used... I will let you in on a little secret...

Well its not really a secret but it is my trick to cleaning 50% of the non-throw in the washing machine items I buy. Have you recently had a good craigslist score??? Or maybe that snazy chair from a thrift store just added a lot of jazz to your living room?? How did you clean them??

Steam is a .NATURAL way to clean items. Having a baby who now crawls,its always important I use natural cleaning products that will not harm him or effect our environment inside the house, with nasty smells and chemicals. Its pretty great at getting smells out too. I sometimes buy used toys and clean them with steam and in the sink if they fit.

Things to look for when buying a steamer

An effective steam cleaner is only as good as its heat. The higher the the steamer gets the better.
reservoir tank size. This will determine how long you can steam something and how frequently you have to refill.
Pressurized steamer
Reaches High temperatures between 250–273 °F
Reservoir Tank size (determines how quickly you have to refill)

Steps I use when Steam Cleaning

Spray Fabric or Surface with Natural Bacteria Killing Cleaner (Let Sit for up to 5 mins) (Vinegar/Lemon Juice,and Baking Soda Works great)
Prepare Steamer
Slowly take steamer over product multiple times

There are some disputes as to to how effective steam cleaning can be, depending on length of time and heat of steam. There are positives on steams ability to disinfect. You be the judge. I have used steam cleaning for a while now and I chose to do that. I think it is more effective than not cleaning a used item at all. Especially one that cannot be washed effectively.If you do not own a steamer and you shop used at least 50% of your normal shopping.consider doing more research an possibly investing in one. This solely is my opinion as a used shopper.

Happy Sunday luvs and of course a Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers,aunts,play moms,and mother figures in our lives that have made up the people we are. We appreciate you all. I wait for the day when my son and future children can really appreciate what a mom goes through, it can be hard but a very rewarding journey.

It was not only mothers day for my family but today my son North was dedicated at our church. It was beautiful and something I was against initially but we actually had found a new church and they just so happen to be doing their yearly child dedications on mothers day. My fiancee and I decided we wanted to do this for our lil budding family and our son. I think we made a great decision and it was an amazing mothers day gift I will never forget.

I kept it simple and chic, not your typical southern church attire but,our church is casual atmosphere. I had really been envisioning this look since I thrifted this shirt. How do you usually put together outfits?

I love these jeans since they fit like a glove but after losing another 20lbs they have become loose and i think I will be purchasing another pair at some point. The perfect plus size jean is hard to find. I love a classic style pump, these will never get old. I have had these leporad pumps for years and they always seem to add the right touch to my outfits.

Hello Fashionista's,

Anyone that has had kids knows how much free time you have to your self...very little...but in that spare time I have been contemplating a lot about Broke Fatshion ,this blog. Have I outgrown it...where is the time to post,prob lost all my followers ,but then I was reminded of my goals for this blog. I want this blog to always genuinely be a reflection of myself. I do not create this blog to try and get "NET" fashion or make money. I created this blog because I was coming out of dark place honestly. It took me nearly a year and a half to start the process of coming to terms with my mothers passing and I felt that I needed something to help keep me stable. I was growing into myself or at least trying and want to showcase.

Going back to those first couple of post...omg what was i thinking anyway who I was then and who I am now are still similar,but I do have different interest and now have a tiny little family of my own. I want to showcase these things and grow this blog and hopefully my faith followers will grow and stay with me.

I love my style and wearing what I like and Ia love cooking and spending time with that tiny family of mine that I mentioned. So I decided the blog is gonna get that makeover complete!!!

Lastly there will be a name change to signify the direction of the blog.

I have a secret (not really a secret) I would like to share to you my faithful readers, I have been known on the web as Leah...(its also a nickname for me in real life too) well my official name is actually Angelea (pronounced An-ja-lea). When I was younger I hated my name as people then and still do always get it wrong,but I grew to love its uniqueness and think its the breath of fresh air I need to keep going with this blog.

All the official changes should be completed by the end of the month (fingers crossed). Including the start of new post: style,food,and family stuff. I still love brokefatshion and always will.

My Funny Valentine

Hopefully you all enjoyed your Valentine's doing whatever you did single,coupled,or etc.I wanted to share my Valentines Night out.

My fiancee was fortunate to have Valentines off so we were able to go out that night. Since having our little one a date night out no matter what its for it always a good thing for us. I had already planned what I was gonna where when I snagged some velvety feeling overalls.

I paired the overalls with my fav tiny strappy neon heels I got from Torrid for 9.99 and a button down. I was going for a classic look with the overalls and I totally loved it and so did my beau.

We kept it simple and fun and went to sky high and spent and hour having fun bouncing on trampolines and jumping into foam pits. The night ended at a laid back hookah lounge, my kinda of date. How did you spend your Valentine's?

Neon Bones

Happy Saturday

This parka is one of my favorite thrift finds. I love wearing it, the neon colors and 80s/90s sports vibes. Yall know I could not pass this up.

I paired the neon parka with the skeleton bones leggings I picked up from forever 21. These leggings were my first clothing purchase after the baby got here. I had realized that I had not bought myself anything during my last trimester but some stretchy jeans. After delivery I was in that weird stage where I still couldn't fit anything I wanted to wear but the things I wore while I was pregnant were to big. After the 1st couple weeks of working out I snagged these.

I love leggings and yes I sometimes wear them as pants, sorry but they are so comfy to me. I loved jeans pre-baby but with this stretched stomach and post c-section,leggings have become a go to for me. The interesting thing is I only own multiple pairs of black leggings. Even though I love loud colors,fun prints, leggings tread that line of cheapness to me. Most of the ones I see with prints seem to be low quality,thin,and I would not be caught dead in them. Especially when it comes to plus size. I like the quality of these leggings from Forever 21 and prob will be getting some others from there in the future. How do you feel about leggings as pants and printed leggings....am I alone here?

Sneakers...this was all I wore from 2nd-3rd trimester besides sandals. My feet were swollen and formed a bond with sneakers that I never had before. I purchase these super cute ones that are totally fashionable and ever are used for working out and they always ad to my ensembles and not to mention comfy. This was trending last summer and I see why. Have you incorporated sneakers/running shoes into your everyday wardrobe?

Hello Fashionista's

I just had to share my thrift finds this week (its been too long),before Thursday left me. I have not struck it this rich in such a while. I long for the old thrifting days when I had a basket full and it was a struggle to decide what was staying and what would be left behind,(have you experienced this or was it just me teehee).
While I was preggers I was able to curb my thrifting appetite by shopping for the lil one and filling my then genderless babies closet,but I missed thrifting pre-baby. I actually found all my maternity clothes (4 items) from the thrift store but yall know exactly what I mean pre-baby thrifting just check out my thrift post from the past.

Moving right along with my finds for this week and to add on to the plate....these were all .99 cents expect two items,and the non sale two were must haves. My lil one is always along for the ride and I scored him some pants and a full Ralph Lauren Playsuit, as well as 2 cute sweaters and a retro aviator denim bomber,complete with faux fur (sooo cute,cant wait for him to wear this).

Also scored a shirt for my booski,plaid with spaniel dogs on it (i think spaniel), he always loves my finds for him. Yall we are a thrifting family as you can see.

Lastly I scored myself a fun printed blouse and jacket, some velour/velvet overalls (I know say whaaaat), yes they were dark blue and i tried them on and i felt like it was meant to be...I saw exactly how i wanted to wear them, that I cannot wait to share. I always scored some picnic checkboard short jumper/overalls for the summer, yeah I have already started summer shopping,plus I could not pass on .99 cents.

My amazing gifts

Oh yesssss its been too long yall,

Its been so many months since my last post...the blogger literally left the building, but fashionista's I have had the itch for sometime now to get back to my old blogging ways. Our course its all under some new circumstances now,but I love all the new changes that have occurred in my life.

At the hospital Aug 5 midnight getting induced

As the holiday season has passed and we are on to a New Year, I wanted to update you all of course where life took me after my last post Feb 2013, and share some personal pictures of these lie changing moments. With my last post,I left with news that I was expecting and Aug 6 2013 (one week and a day overdue) I gave birth via c-section to a beautiful baby boy, North Yuriah Woods, 8lbs 8oz. I will be sharing my birth story with you all soon. This new mommy journey has been a amazing and rewarding one but also tiring. I am still in school trying to complete my Masters. I am so serious about losing the baby weight (25lbs down so far) so I could wear my coveted items in my closet pre-baby. He is my 1st amazing gift.

Last day at the hospital

My second gift to close out the holidays came in a tiny box.....(drum roll)... my amazing handsome, intelligent ,caring (father of our son) boyfriend PUT A RING ON IT YALL!!!!

We got engaged at 12 am Christmas morning. My fiancee tricked me into opening a single gift at midnight and as I was opening the gift and very much occupied, he had got down on one knee in front of my my close family and and a friend. I was very shocked,no water works but my heart was so melting. I am so truly blessed for all the amazing things 2013 brought and am so excited for 2014 brings and yall better believe the fashions will be continuing. I may even share a few of my preggers fashions before I got to big for my clothes, and a few pics of my lil fashionisto in the making. 1st Valentine

Hello lovely Followers

I have been up since 6:35 am and thought I would go ahead and turn on scandal on hulu and share my Valentines Day with you all. Perfect combo right lol. I hope you all had a lovely Valentines Day or Night yourself,no matter who you spent it with....your boo or your girls and or family. Valentines is the celebration of love and its not necessarily between a couple.

So,
My Vday morning started with a romantic love letter sent from my beau and then gifts from my dad, candy and some bright red combat boots.

After my morning gifts I ended up returning some pants to kart. This has been my go to since I got pregnant The Love Your Style Plus clothing line has saved me. I have actually not had the energy to thrift like I used to,sooo finding clothes for this growing belly that aren't maternity clothes is a bit more of a challenge but I'm pushing through it.

I got lucky and found 2 shirts and 2 jeans on discount that will grow with me and the baby.The jeans work great with the belly band.

Those were my Vday gifts to myself, lol.

Fast Track to Vday Evening

My amazing boo knew that I am not a roses gal. I actually do not particularly like flowers as gifts to began with,but I do like gardening and plants. He gave me some beautiful tulips that I will be able to plant soon and will re-bloom next season. He also bought a pregnant woman's dream. A nice large bag filled with all of my cravings...oh yes I was in heaven.

I really loved what I picked out to wear. I made sure everything fit perfectly I was happy to finally be able to wear my ASOS dress that I bought so long ago. I purchased it too big and it never fit right but now it fits great. I paired it with a thrifted red blazer and thrifted gold belt. I threw on some tan ankle boots that i got from urban outfitters for $15.

We had dinner at Carrabbas. Which was great. My beau ordered Peach Sangria which looked yummy.. Once our food arrived it seems my stomach was not in agreement with Italian that night and I was only able to eat a bite of my chicken parmesan.

This Valentines Day was amazing. My beau is my first real Valentine. I have never been in a relationship or involved with someone when Valentines Day came around. So this was a treat and I loved every moment. Including when I fell asleep in the car on the way home in the middle of my beau talking lool. I was exhausted. I enjoyed my gifts and my beau enjoyed his. I he was looking mighty fly in his thrifted YSL blazer and tie.

My first Valentine and our First Valentine's together. Hope you all enjoyed your night.

Hello and a late Happy New Year to my lovely followers......wow my last post was Nov 8.. LAWDY LAWDY.... I have been a bad blogger lol

Now,Let me tell you why ...

the 3 of us (me,him,and baby) celebrate downtown new years eve and day with friends

School was picking up and so many other things were consuming my time. Don't get me wrong I love my blog and blogging and of course my fashion never stopped but by that time my goal was to keep that GPA high and of course yours truly met the task, but at the same time I neglected one of my love "Broke Fatshion". I will be back trying to post as regular as possible,but there is more fashionista's.....Oh yes more more and MORE!!!

1st ultrasound

If you have noticed I have had a few pictures with my amazing beau from time to time. Well.... I can certainly say he is an awesome man that I truly deeply love. We have grown a lot since meeting 8-9 months ago and now.......11/26/2013 that we were EXPECTING!!! Yaaaay I am very excited and have been wanting to share this for a while with my followers among,school,work,thesis research,meeting,computer problems,bf,family,friends,and now Preggers!!!! I just didnt get the time,but yall know I can't leave you all hanging like that...No No NO!

I would love you all to take this journey with me and I will be sharing things as often as I can. So much is coming up,but I will be photo documenting everything. Also clothes....yes clothes another love of my life. Lots of my clothes are getting sung around my belly,all my fav jeans (have been retired....only like 2 or 3 I can wear with a belly band for now),with the 10lbs I have picked up during the 1st stage(I was giving in to all cravings lol),getting dressed is a lot more harder. Thank goodness I didnt get rid of all of my larger clothes after I lost weight this summer. Even then I'm not able to wear some of my fav pieces and shoes....my goodness. I already have wide feet and these thangs swell up whenever I want to wear some of my cute shoes....bring on all the canvas sneakers and flats lol.

I have had a pretty smooth 1st trimester minus,fatigue,sleepy,and occasional hormonal mood swings lol,things have been great. Life is good and things can only go up from here!

Blazing Mullet

The weekend has come and gone and boy did it leave me tired,but I had a great time with the beau and friends. We ended the weekend out together at Zanies Comedy Club here in Nashville seeing Arnez J and he was hilarious If you have not been to a comedy show then get out and do some laughing. On to the fashions. Heres my ootd for the night of the comedy show.I wanted to look cute of course and stylish and I have been wanting to wear this pastel mullet dress I bought in the late summer. I knew it would be perfect.

Yes I know its pastel and officially fall but I make rules for myself and wear what I want,and so loved this dress I knew it would be perfect to pair with the black wool blazer and recent wedge sneakers I purchased.

I bring to you a fully thrifted outfit (minus shoes). I love when I can put a fully thrifted outfit together and of course you can never tell the difference.

I so love a good blazer...wool or cotton...lined or not lined and the brighter the color the better . I picked this vibrant red blazer up a few weeks ago for just .99 cent my fav price to pay at the local Goodwill here.
This skirt has been in my dresser for some time, guess I have looked over it for a while now,but finally it saw the day of light last Sunday.

Helllloooo followers

I am with computer (finally) and net (thanks to my bf,Mcdonalds,and Starbucks) lol. I bring you all finally an update to Broke Fatshion. I cannot wait to share some of my recent thrifted finds with you all and all the many ootd pictures from the last few weeks that I have been stock piling since before I lost internet. As well as my computer decided to peace out on me. Anyway on to the fashion.

Hope your weekend has been what you were expecting. I spent my weekend relaxing and doing pretty much whatever I wanted. No, I purposely wasn't going for the librarian/nerd look. When I went through my closet I picked each of these pieces out and,threw them on and and tadaa here comes the geek chic lol. A cute thrifted skirt and the top and jacket I got both tremendously discounted (I love a good sale). My fav flats that I thrifted awhile back seem to always come in handy. I thought this was so cute after looking at the pics.

I dont usually rock the "nerd/hispter" glasses but I think they fit...what do you think?

I'm sharing with you yet another fully thrifted outfit minus the shoes. Yall know I always love showcasing and sharing these. I was feeling a lil gungy when I threw together this outfit. I have done the sweatshirt skirt combo before and I like the contrast..sporty/girly.

Usually when I wear stuff, I just wear what looks right in the mirror. Its only after I come home that I might take the time to analyze the outfit lol. How do you put your clothes together....do you lay them out the night before or throw whatever on and walk out the door?

Thrift Tips:How to clean used shoes for...re-use

Hello lovely fashionista's

the Broke Fatshionista is back from vacation and I cannot wait to share some of my pics but as I upload and begin to pick through and edit ill leave you with some of my recent thrift finds and a tip for those used shoes.....

Finding sz 9-10 used shoes has become a daunting task the more and more I thrift...and I become overjoyed when I find a pair of shoes that I like, with some wear still left in them for my size foot. Yes oh yes I praise the thrifting Gods and pray their color tag is 50% that week lol for an even better deal.

Anywho after that i toss them in the basket and usually bring the babies home. This week I had the pleasure of finding some boat shoes. Similar to the sperry shoes but made by docker. TIP: When looking for shoes never pass over the mens section.

It is always a great idea to clean everything you thrift if at all possible immediately after bringing the item home and inside your house. Not saying I have found a critter in my items but I do this to be safe. Some items that may call for dry cleaning I throw in the freezer for an hr, which will kill hidden bugs or whatever maybe in them...then I get them cleaned. I do this with shoes also.

The way I disinfect used/thrifted shoes

Throw them in a bag and into the freezer for an 1hr-2 (solely up to you)
You can mix a small amount of alcohol and a tiny bit of water into a spray bottle and spray the inside of shoes...the alcohol will kill germs and old bacteria
I also spray the outer and inner part of the shoe with disinfectant
Put a deodorizing powder inside the shoe to freshen the smell

A few of my thrifted shoes the blue with bows and the brown are some recent finds

Now you have some clean used shoes and are good to go. I take no chances when putting my toes into something and you shouldn't either, enjoy the thrifting tips and more to come.

Both shoes on the top are mens...dont pass by that section without giving it a good look first.

This is another fully thrifted outfit. I saw these boots and yes they were so 90s looking with their chunky-ness but i snagged them especially since they fit lol.

Thrifting shoes especially lately for my size is always a hard task and I usually don't even bother looking anymore. I figured I could rock these as I am sure many passed them up and taadaa.

Polka Dots and Bow Ties

Fashionista's Bon Voyage...I am headed to Florida with my family and will be trying to do some much needed relaxing for the next 7 days. Leaving you with some cool ootds to try and put a dent in this heatwave hitting the US.

Have I ever told you all I love according skirts. They are light and so cute. I thrifted this one a while back and finally pulled it out. Yes my hair is different. After growing out all of my old permed hair for 6-7 months I went ahead and cut most of it off. I finally decided to go natural after I got my box braids months ago.

Its so official now summer is here and the HEAT is on. I have so been trying to spend as much time as possible when its daylight in some a/c and out the the beaming sun and 90 degree and above weather.
My 12 transformation plan has been amazing and I cannot wait to share pictures and here is today's outfit.
This is a thin blazer I picked up thrifting a while back. I really like to find the cool cotton as well as lined blazers. The cotton ones are perfect for spring and summer. No one wants to actually throw on a blazer to then get hot at least I know I don't.

I picked this pencil body con skirt up from target on sale for $15 it was very cute and I loved the length. I personally do not wear many short skirts but I do own 2 body cons.

I love how they fit all shapes. I feel like the solid color body con is a must have you need at least 1 in your closet.

No fancy trendy stripes, Aztec symbols,but just a simple solid color will go along way and will be a lot more versatile. Body Con Skirts...Yay or Nay?
