Horror in Mumbai: 3-year-old raped in Dharavi

A three year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in an empty room in a housing colony in Dharavi on Tuesday evening.

According to investigators, at around 6.30 pm, the resident of the slum's Transit Camp area was playing with other children outside her home as usual. When her father, a labourer, returned from work and could not find her, the worried parents began to search and located the child near a public toilet about 300 metres away from her house.

The sobbing child reportedly narrated her trauma to her mother.

The parents then rushed to Dharavi police station where a complaint was lodged. ACP ( Kurla division) Prabhakar Satam said it appears that the victim was taken to a partially vacant building near MHADA Colony in Dharavi. The girl was sexually assaulted in one of the empty rooms, he said, adding that only 45 rooms of the 350-room complex were currently occupied.
The victim has shown investigators the MHADA colony and has reportedly told the police that she was lured with a chocolate.

“We have registered a case under Section 363 (Kidnapping) and 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4,8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,” said Ashok Survegandh, senior police inspector of Dharavi police station.

The police are also awaiting a medical report from the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, Sion, where the girl was undergoing treatment.

Ahmedabad: Wife raped after man fails to repay Rs1 lakh loan

In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly raped by a money lender as her husband failed to return a loan. A rape case has been lodged by Latika (name changed), a resident of Danilimda, against three at Danilimda police station on Sunday.

According to the case details, Latika, a housewife, was repeatedly raped by one Vishal Gupta. In her complaint, she also named a couple—Shabha Khan and Bilal, residents of Fatewadi in Juhapura, who helped Vishal in the act.

Investigation revealed that Latika’s husband, who owns an omelette stall in Naroda, had borrowed Rs1 lakh on 10% interest from Gupta. However, things turned awry after the victim’s family failed to return the full amount. In order to recover the money, Gupta took away the furniture at Latika’s house and asked her to meet him near Narol circle on December 24.

He kidnapped her and forced her to stay with him till her husband returned the entire amount. He also threatened the victim that he would kill her husband if he did not get the money back. Subsequently, Gupta took her to Fatewadi, where she was put up at the couple’s residence. It was here that the victim was raped. It is learned that the couple forced Latika to consume alcohol with them and then sneak out of the room. Gupta would then rape her.

The torture continued for five to six days during which the victim was raped repeatedly. She was also taken to Udaipur where the humiliation continued. They even snatched her gold ring and anklet. On January 19, Latika’s husband, managed to trace her and lodged a complaint of kidnapping and rape against the accused.

“We have registered kidnapping and rape complaint against Gupta. We have also registered a complaint against the couple for helping the accused. During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused raped her after getting drunk. Gupta is absconding but we have arrested the couple,” said MM Makwana, PI, Danilimda. The victim has been sent to civil hospital for medical examination.

Bangalore: Stranger molests 9-year-old girl in school washroom

A nine-year-old schoolgirl was molested by an unidentified man who entered the premises of a school run by the Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) in Shivaji Nagar on Thursday. This incident has raised fresh doubts over the safety of children in schools, especially since there were several strangers within the school premises even during class hours. Some space in the premises had been allotted for Adhaar card registrations.

The victim, a class two student, had taken a break during class hours to visit the toilet on the second floor of the school building around 5pm when the incident occurred, the police said. Her assailant, who has not yet been arrested, fled when she screamed for help and was lost among other strangers in the premises.

In her statement, the victim told the police that when she reached the second floor, she saw a stranger approaching her. The victim said she had never seen her assailant before. According to her statement, he is 40-45 years old, bearded and was wearing trousers and a shirt. He rushed towards her and before she realised what was happening, he gagged her with his palm and then molested her. A few seconds later, when the victim managed to raise an alarm, he fled down the stairs.

“The victim was scared and hence did not mention the incident to anybody in the school. However, when she reached her house, she told her mother about what had happened. When the victim’s father returned home at 9.30pm, his wife narrated the incident to him,” said RS Agarwal, senior inspector of the Shivaji Nagar police station.

The victim’s father said, “If I had kept mum my daughter or somebody else’s daughter would become the victim again.”

When asked whether the man was an employee of the school or an outsider, Agarwal said, “The process of registration of Aadhar cards is being conducted in the school premises, allowing outsiders to enter. As of now, it appears that the accused is not an employee of the school.”

The BMC’s education officer however denied that there had been an incident of molestation, even while admitting that a man had entered the girls’ toilet. “What happened was, a man entered the ladies’ toilet. Scared, the students who were inside at the time started screaming,” claimed RR Bhise, education officer who holds charge of all of the BMC’s 1,148 schools. He claimed that the teachers and staff rushed to the toilet to find that the man had fled. “This happened in the evening, when even parents were in the school premises to fetch their children,” he added.

Dowry Harassment: 24 year old and 7 months pregnant Asma Banu found dead at her in-law’s house.

A seven-month pregnant woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in Jayanagar 9th Block Saturday morning.

According to police, Asma Banu, 24, hailed from Mysore and was married to Mohammed Sadif, 26, in March last year. The family members of the deceased have alleged that Asma was harassed for dowry by her in-laws.

Sadif, his sister Amrin Taj, brother Mohammed Musadif and mother Shahnaz have been absconding after the incident.

Sadif was earlier working with a footwear company and was presently unemployed. “Soon after marriage, Asma’s jewellery worth Rs two lakh were pawned and she was forced to bring money from her parents.
When she refused, she was assaulted, tortured, deprived of food,” alleged a family member. “On Friday, all the relatives had gathered at Asma’s parental home at Udaygiri, Mysore to bring her home the next day for baby shower. However, at around 8 pm that day, Sadif called Asma’s mother and demanded that she pay him Rs two lakh before taking her daughter home.

Since she did not have the kind of money, she promised to meet him and settle the issue next morning in Bangalore. Sadif had agreed to this,” said Salma, a close relative of the family.

“However, Shafi Ulla, Asma's father-in-law, called us around 1.30 am on Saturday to rush to the City saying that Asma had collapsed due to ill health,” she recounted. As they reached Bangalore, they found Asma lying dead. Only her father-in-law was in the house and the rest of the family members were missing.

A neighbour told the police that at around 10 pm they had heard repeated cries of help from Asma.

Noida: Man suffocates wife to death in hotel room, tries to pass it off as a suicide

A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his wife in a five-star hotel in Noida in Uttar Pradesh. He also allegedly tried to write a note to pass off the murder as a suicide.

Twenty-four-year-old Akansha Khosla, a resident of Delhi, was found dead in a room of Hotel Radisson in Sector 18 in Noida on Friday evening. SSP Praveen Kumar said the hotel staff found the woman dead round 6.30 pm.

Initially, police thought that Akansha had committed suicide as a note recovered from the room stated that the couple was facing some differences with parents beside financial problems. The note also said that she was committing suicide and that her husband too would die by jumping from a tower in Sector 25.
When a police team went to Sector 25, they could not trace her husband. However, her husband Ishan Khosla on Friday night turned up at the police station and allegedly confessed to have killed his wife. Ishan told police that they got married in June 2011 but did not get along.
Committing to the crime, Ishaan allegedly told police that he smothered Akansha to death with a pillow and planned to commit suicide but could not do so. He had reportedly booked the hotel room to surprise his wife but things went wrong when the couple got into an argument.
"The victim was studying in Noida and her husband worked as a telemarketer. The couple lived in Rohini in west Delhi," SP City Yogesh Singh said. The suicide note recovered from the spot was written by Ishan, police said.

Mumbai: Bus conductor molests 4-year-old girl, booked for rape 'by mistake'

A four-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the conductor of her school bus in Mumbai but, in an apparent goof up, a case of rape was registered against him, a senior police officer said on Saturday. Bus conductor Ramesh Rajput (35) allegedly molested the girl in suburban Juhu on Tuesday afternoon when children were being dropped back home, city Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said.

Being the last to be dropped home, the KG student was the lone child in the school bus when she was sexually abused by the conductor in the presence of a woman attendant, who confronted him for the indecent act, police said. The case came to light on Wednesday when the victim informed her father about the incident and he reported the matter to the school authorities immediately.

"There was no rape or attempt to rape. We are rectifying our mistake," Singh said. "Section 376 IPC (rape) was applied in this case by mistake and we are contemplating to remove it with the permission of the court," Mumbai Police spokesperson Ambadas Pote said.

Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said they will remove the rape charge against the accused with court's permission.
A case was registered against Rajput after medical check up of the victim. The accused was arrested and charged with rape and molestation under Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act. The bus driver's statement has also been recorded, police said.

Kashmir: 50 year old Spiritual leader arrested for raping follower’s minor daughter.

A 50-year-old Pir was arrested in Mattan area of this south Kashmir district for allegedly raping a minor daughter of one of his followers, Police said Thursday.
Police said the girl, according to doctors, was eight months pregnant and was expected to deliver the baby in February, after which a DNA analysis will be done to ascertain the facts.

The Pir identified as Muhammad Yousuf Bhat of Utteresoo Shangus was presently residing at Tulla Haar Aishmuqam.

He has married thrice and has half a dozen children with some grand-children too.
He used to frequent victim’s house on the pretext of providing the household benefits of his spiritual powers.

“He visited many households in the area and had a large number of followers including the victim’s parents,” said Ramesh Kumar Jalla, SSP Anantnag.

He said some nine months back the accused visited the victim’s house and found her alone there, after which he allegedly raped her.

“The girl complained to her mother about the incident. However, her parents were not ready to accept the fact given their faith in Pir and his ‘spiritual powers,’” police said. “After the girl complained of some abnormalities, her family took her to the same Pir again.”
Police said he assured the parents that everything was alright and threatened the girl of dire consequences if she opened her mouth again.
However, things got clearer when the girl complained about the abnormal size of her belly and was taken to a doctor where an ultrasound revealed that she was eight months pregnant.

A 29-year-old government school teacher has alleged that her husband tried to stab and strangle her over dowry demand in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri, police said on Thursday.

Ruksana works with Janki Devi Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya at Mayur Vihar Phase I. She is married to Sarfaraz, and has two children — son Ayan, 4, and daughter Zoya, 2.

She alleged that her in-laws used to torture her over dowry due to which she was currently staying at her maternal house in Trilokpuri.

In her statement to police, Ruksana said the incident took place when she went to meet Sarfaraz at his house in Trilokpuri along with Zoya on Wednesday.

Ruksana reached the house around 8.30 pm when Sarfaraz and other family members were having dinner. “She made a comment about Sarfaraz having food without caring about his children. It infuriated Sarfaraz and he allegedly started beating Ruksana,” a police official said.

He later brought a knife from the kitchen and attacked Ruksana. “She did not suffer any stab wound, but her left wrist was slashed. It is alleged that Sarfaraz also tried to strangle her,” the official added.

Ruksana informed her mother Zarina about the attack, who immediately rushed to the house and also informed police.

A police control room vehicle took Ruksana to Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital where she was discharged after first aid.

Ruksana also told police that she left Sarfaraz’s house on Sunday, but used to visit the house to take childrens’ belongings.
