We took the kids to see Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax movie last weekend. It was a super cute movie with a great message and I left inspired. I actually turned to my husband in the car on the way home and told him that I felt like going home and planting a tree. A few days passed and ideas began accumulating in my head. On Thursday with the temperatures in the low 70′s I decided that this was the day we were going to plant our tree. Now we could have just went out and planted a tree but that would not have been enough for the Yochum’s. So when Jack headed off to school I had a two hour window to make my Lorax world come to life. I found these cute candy molds at Michaels to make our Lorax mustaches. I attempted to simulate truffula trees with tissue paper pom poms, however with the beautiful weather we also had some serious wind gusts. Every time I turned around my truffula trees kept blowing away! So needless to say it wasn’t exactly how I had envisioned it, but we got our tree planted and had a ton of fun doing it!

Just checked this week’s weather forecast and with the unseasonably warm weather headed our way New Jersey, I am in the mood for spring! Working on some spring marketing pieces today I came across this article and wanted to share.

Today is Leap Year and as some of you might know it’s also my birthday! Yes that’s right I am a leap baby! And this year it’s a big one, not only am I celebrating my birthday for real but I am also turning 40! Not exactly sure how I feel about that, but one thing I know for sure is that life passes by so quickly. This year especially I am so grateful that I have photographs of my family, my children, and my life to appreciate and remember the people and moments that are so special to me.

Sneak peak at an uncoming blog post of my own children’s session…

This is my son, Jack who wasn’t too interested in playing with the scene I had set up for our photo shoot in the woods until it was his turn to go solo. Out of nowhere he says to me “Not to shabby, eh?” and gives me this little smile. Yep I can still here him saying it everytime I look at this image. Cracks me up…this boy of mine.

Happy New Year! Well better late than never huh? Took a much needed break to spend time with family and friends over the holidays. The beginning of a new year brings reflection on the past resulting in change, goals, dreams and some new things for me personally and for Marci Yochum Photography. I will be taking the months of January and February to work on the business side of things, including updating my website, blog, pricing, and simply organizing this office of mine once and for all.

As always, I will continue to accept newborn clients during this time. Please call to schedule your newborn session before your baby is due so that I may allow time in my schedule. I will officially open my calendar on March 1st to begin booking for 2012 spring/summer sessions. In the meantime I will be posting some sessions that I neglected to post last year and any news or updates as they arise so please check back often. Woke up this morning and it’s absolutely freezing outside! Has me wishing for warmth of summer already. Here’s a summer evening session I did not too long ago with a beautiful family.

This family chose a beach/lake type location for their session this year. I think Mom did a wonderful job styling the clothing for our themed shoot. The boys set up camp with my pup tent and homemade fishing poles. Such a fun session! Already looking forward to next year’s session!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Yochum house today. I purchased these Organic Bloom oranament frames last year and decided to start a new tradition. So excited that the time is finally here and I get to decorate with these lovelies.

At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to highlight 10 images from our year, like a year in the life of, but then I decided to display one image from our annual family holiday card photo shoot so that I could display sort of a timelime of cherished memories. So I went through my 3 computers and 6 external harddrives to find our family photos that were taken over the years. For a girl who takes a lot of pictures this was no easy task. I managed to compile a few favorites from the past five years and had them printed. I sort of got lost in the project too as I was looking through the countless digital images I have of my children. It was so fun to look back through the years to see just how much our family has grown. Thought I would share a few of our memories.

And here is how they look around the Yochum house..on our tree or our mantel..oh I just can’t decide…I just love them!

Just getting around to catching up with my blog after the holiday rush. This adorable little one gave me a run for my money…literally. She was on the go and running from my camera the entire session. Well I have said it before, I love a good challenge and I think we captured “A” just as she is…a BEAUTIFUL energic 20 month old. Love her.
