Hello my name is Margaret and sometimes….I just do too damn much!

Between family, working my businesses and life in general, there are days when I just wanna go and hide.

Yup I’m having a venting moment.

And yes I know how to say no..to friends and family.  But business is a little different.

I knew that when I started working for myself everything would be on me….the marketing, the work, the finding of clients, the whole ball of wax.  And there are times when I seem to be handling it all quite well and I’m grateful for the ability to not only determine my paycheck but my schedule as well (And that is my greatest blessing even during my venting time)

But there are those days where I wish I was independently wealthy to  just go somewhere and let folks take care of me for weeks at a time.  I think I need a vacation.

How do you handle those days where you wanna chuck everything to the four winds and do nothing?

So I recently received a Swingline Smart Touch stapler as well as a box of Premium Swingline Staples from Shoplet.com for a review.  So let me tell you a lil bit about the product.

This stapler doesn’t look or feel like your average office stapler. 

This is the one that you want to have when you have a lot of things to staple together (Think PTA or any club meetings).  It can staple together about 25 sheets at a single time and is one of the most quietest that I have ever used (I have been providing administrative support for over 20 years so yes I have a lot of experience with staplers).

One of the things that I didn’t like about it is trying to figure out how to load it.  There are no instructions either in the package or on the box so I had to wing it.  After about 10 minutes or so, I figured it out (that button on the back of the stapler pushes the tray out of the front for loading.  Then you just slide the tray back into place).

The staples used with this product are the Swingline Premium Chisel Point Staples. They come in a reusable plastic storage case that opens and closes easily and staples are very durable and do not come apart when holding them or trying to load them into the stapler (Major Plus).  I used these staples on several occasions since receiving the stapler and they haven’t jammed once.

OK here it goes *clears throat*

My name is Margaret and (deep sigh) …. I have clutter *the horror*

I was getting dressed today and I took a hard look at the top of my dresser.  Stuff everywhere. Then when I walked past my desk, I saw it again.  Stuff everywhere.

And its not like I can blame it on kids and their stuff cause there is no one but me.  I work and file things away (sometimes) but mostly, its a pile that gets moved from side to side on my desk lol

Now normally, I don’t make resolutions cause like most folks, I don’t keep up with them but this year (well coming year)  I have resolved to get my clutter under control.

I have slowly began the process by standing over the garbage can to read my mail.  Yup anything that I dont need, want or will see myself using, gets tossed right then.  I have taken myself off of different mailing lists (want to do the same check this out http://www.ehow.com/how_5385025_remove-mailing-list.html ) and next up, getting rid of the paper sitting on my desk.

How do you keep your clutter at bay?

My thoughts:

After trying it for a few days, I did notice a boost in my energy level.  Not a big spike but enough to keep me moving during the course of my day.  And the best part is there was no crash like with some energy drinks which is one of the reasons that I don’t drink them.

Now you will have to sweeten it to taste if you choose but you can do with with any sweetener of your choice (I used a little honey).  And I’m being biased when I say that I like Teaberry more than the others.

Overall, this is a good product and I will be buying this in the future.

The first time that I left the United States was when I was 19 years old. I was leaving the country but to make things even MORE exciting (and scary), I was going without my family and I was traveling to a Third World Country.

For a young black girl from Brooklyn who had only been as far as Kentucky and Disney World… this was a huge deal. During my sophomore year of college, I was given the opportunity to do research (at the cost of my University) in Senegal, West Africa … and … get this… they were paying for the whole thing. Even though I was terrified of going, I went and it changed my life. In one day I traveled to a different country and time zone and experienced the food, culture, language of another place. The experiences in Senegal made me feel both VERY American and VERY much like a World Citizen. It inspired me to want to learn more about the language, I brushed up on French and Wolof in anticipation of the trip, it made me want to learn more about the people, their food, their way of life. It made me appreciate my own life and the fact that people have a different set of customs and moral codes and religious beliefs. It erased stereotypes that I had and taught me to be more open-minded. The travel bug bit me.

Since that time, I have been to over 20 countries and plan to continue to add to the list. Travel is my addiction. Some people love the latest clothes and shoes and bags, but I like to save money for a great trip. It is no wonder that my current entrepreneurial project is focused on travel. My company, Hartlyn Kids, is an independent children’s book publishing company that I founded with my friend, Christine Mills. We are both deeply concerned with exposing our own children to different cultures and realize that it is not always easy to get on a plane and go. Instead we provide children’s books about the day in the life of a child in a different country. To remain authentic, each book is written by an author that is local to the country.

The experiences I have during travel are so dear to me that I cannot imagine others not enjoying them, no matter what their financial situation might be. Hartlyn Kids tries to bring the world of travel by including passport stickers at the back of each book to be placed in toy passports that we sell. With our books, children can travel the globe… one book at a time. We hope that in reading our books, we are chiseling away at bigotry and prejudice and instead, providing the building blocks for awareness and tolerance. I love travel… and when you love something, you should try to share it with the world!
