Optimize your Page Title, Meta Tags and Page Content

Providing a good title is one critical point that you should not miss it… Why? because good SEO on Page is able to appeal to both viewers the spider…

Because our page title will appear in the Google’s SERPs, then this is one of the earliest point of our goal to attract viewers, the search engine user. After typing a keyword that wanted in the search box, they would read your title. If your page title is not interesting, not informative or even not exist, it less to get your website address click.

Meta Tag Description

This tag is in use to provide a brief description of your website, or about one page on your webstie. The results of Google SERPs usually display this meta desc on page SERPs (though not always).

There are 2 basic things we need to remember when creating meta desc, meta desc which is in use by our target to the both search engines and viewers. Similar with the Page Title explanation, search engines evaluate your title to the relevance of SERPs, so make sure you describe your web / page briefly.

While to the viewers, here need our marketing skills for a short, solid, informative, and appealing to the mix.. (not tempting in the negative sense, more likely but irresistible invitation to your web page).

Meta Tag Keywords

But there still has value and it’s not harm you to make it.

Landing Page

What is Landing Page means? Landing page is a spot/place/page that to be objective in your website viewers.

The more detailed explanation of the analogy is the “bus station”. Well, in the first tutorial (SEO on Page 1), we have a list of keywords isn’t it? (which saved in excel file), and we’ve chosen keywords with KEI 4-7 as the highest major keywords and alternative keywords 30-35. Now, let’s break down those keywords list. In this case, just took 5 keywords to be the Main Keyword, and 30 keyword as alternative keywords.

The 5 Main Keywords, which means there are 5 landing page that we wish to optimize. Now create
30 keywords alternative, and then divide to the respective 5 Main Keyword. So, 1 landing page consists of: 1 primary keyword, and 5 or 6 as an alternative keywords. Look at the image below for more clearly:

Now select the page you are going to optimize for better SEO score. As example, let’s put one keyword to optimize.. then let’s go to http://www.google.com, type in search box: “keyword site: wxw.yourdomain.com“.

The result is the best in the 1-10 page of your website for the keyword you choose. Next, take your page which appear on no.1 search results (let’s call it page A). Now we know that those keyword is better if we optimize to page A, why? because for page which existed in your web is the best page for the keywords that you choose before..

See sample pic below, this sample is using “SEO” as a main keyword to optimize, and search results for that keywords in Google for the site http://marketingblogonline.com is as the picture below. So now, we will take the page number one to optimize for the keyword “SEO”.

Make your page Search Engine Friendly

Ok next on SEO on Page learning, how to make your page to be more Search Engine Friendly? Here are some ways:

1. Rewrite your dynamic URLs to SE friendly.

You may ever see the following URL http://www.domainname.com/?item=12554. Now just take a look at this url, we can not directly know anything or imagine on the page clearly. This is an url which is called as dynamic url (item=12,554), or an url that contains “?”, “&” and “=” in it also includes dynamic url.

Well, you’ve probably seen URL http://www.domainname.com/c/food.html, or http://www.domainname.com/food-for-lunch.html. That is called static URL. Spider prefer static rather than dynamic URL, so that better if you try using a static website url.

For e-store users, usually there is an additional module to create dynamic url rewrite. For wordpress user, you can edit the permalink in the permalink setting. For blogger.com user it has been built in by default setting. If you’re CMS users or e-store module but not yet found the permalink formula, just don’t worry, you still can get it by using a tricky such .htaccess file, but you still need additional knowledge or you can ask the webmaster to create. htaccess file for you.

2. Make use robot.txt

This robot.txt is a guide for the area where the spider wrote accessible or indexed. For some websites (usually an e-store), there are some sensitive page that no need for visitors to know, such like /cgi-bin/, cart.php, register.php, etc…

You can also direct the spider to a page that have rich keywords, so basicly the point is make guide for the spider which areas can be accessed or indexed.

3. Repair broken link in your website.

This can be done with the help of google webmaster to see the problem of the links. Broken link was bad due to your SERPs just because spiders do not like the broken link. 4. No flash, no Java scripts, no frames.

Yeah, all of the three above can still make our website good to see, but its make spider hard to index it, and usually over time the spider was actually unwilling to come to our website.. spiders can not see the contents of the file above… Since we make seo purpose is to attract visitors (with a good design) and also attract spiders (with a design that could read) to our website.

Try to reduce the use of flash, java and frame as low as possible, and for deceiving the spider we can make it as text link. For example, text button to e-cart website using java, we can make text link below it for spiders to read.. so the button made for viewers, and its text link for spiders. And actually nowadays CSS has been much used for website design which also has “pretty lay out” with flash or frames .. and still spider friendly.

5. The use of image

Spiders can not read the image. However, the key of good SEO is to be able to attract visitors and also attract spiders.. That’s why the use of text links can also good for use in this section… In addition you can also get traffic by using the image, so don’t forget to write “alt image” in order to be a keyword for google image search.

6. Remove welcome page

This is usually considered not necessary by the most visitors. Personally, I close the page immediately if I found the page that loading not directly to main page. It’s annoying.

7. Make your html code pages neat and valid by the W3C validator (http://validator.w3.org)

Spiders do not understand about the “native” html, but dislike to the bad code. Even there is a fact that 99% validity of your website doesn’t guarantee your rankings will increase, but the html errors (bad code) will cause the spiders are reluctant to come to your website, and it certainly affects your ranking.

2. XML Sitemap: This is in use for spider only

Which is better? Sure, you could use both. It depends on the demand of SE, you can create a sitemap page on your website with php or html, then you submit to the SE which is XML Sitemap type.

To generate XML sitemap, you can use a tool such as: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com and there are many other programs.

What is KEI (Keyword Efficiency Index) ?

Ok.. now what is KEI? hmm.. the simple explanation is the efficiency of a keywords… the higher the better…

KEI is a formula or mathematics calculation KEI = Search Volume (squared) / # of Competitors

For more clearly what the mean of Search engine volume and number of competitors let’s we look more deeply:

1. SV (search volume) = is the approximate number of search these keywords in 1 month. For example in case you want to search for SV from keyword “free money” …

The first step is to go to http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com, and type in “free money“, then you will get results which is approximately 1741 for “free money” keywords. This means there is a 1741 search everyday for the keywords “free money“. This also meant 1741 X 30.5 = 53,100 per month (approximately monthly count). So this 53,100 digits number is the SV (search volume) for keyword “free money.”

2. # Of Competitors = number of the web that contain keywords that we wish to find her KEI. Here the easy way… you open http://www.google.com, then type the keyword “free money”. After that you could see result in this part: “Results 1 – 10 of about 187,000,000 search results for free money. (0:24 seconds)“… So the number 187,000,000 # is the competitors for the keywords “free money.”

Well so we got all the recipes for calculating the KEI… Now we just enter it into the formula:

And we got the result is 156.6

Well now you’ve know how to calculate the KEI (Keyword Efficiency Index). Now apply the above ways to your entire list of keywords that you have listed in your excel file before. The better you know to operate ms-excel is the easier to make his formula in excel.

Here the most important: take the highest 4-7 of KEI as a main keyword, take 20-30 it follows as a variation, related keyword or secondary keyword… Now u got your self list of keyword that you want for your website optimization.

How to Finding the Keywords?

What was the important of keywords? No keywords, means no SEO. Keywords can consist of 1,2,3,4 or 5 words, the longer it is usually the more a bit traffic, but its results are also more specific or targeted viewer.

Usually the used combination for keyword is 2 or 3 keywords as a main keyword, continued to follow in the long tail keywords with 4 or 5 words.

Ok let’s digg some more deeply about keywords and this technical research…

3. Make a list in ms-excel for all the keywords that you get from the results of your thoughts and opinions of others from earlier.

4. Once you do it manually, it was time to do with the help of tools through the Internet on your pc or laptop. There are many tools you can use like Wordtracker, Google’s Keyword Tool, Keyword Discovery, etc, which some are free and others you must pay for the service…

5. Become a James bond (Spy your competitors). This is just a sample that you selling bag online, you continue to google and type in the “bag online” on the Google Search Engine…

- Now you find the websites in the first sequence (the more specific is website that selling bags online at the top search) you copy its url, then open https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

- Next select the option generate ideas “using the website’s content “, and enter the url address of this website competitors to choose from.

- After that you click on “keywords get ideas“, there will be the results of the keywords that used by your competitors. Save this results of the keywords in ms-excel, then repeat to this step to other competitors (who number 2,3 or 4 in the SERPs for the keyword “bag online”)

The tools I mentioned above are just a sample of the many tools / software that you can use to research the keywords that you would use, so be creative.
