Relationship marketing is a term that is used rather loosely but relationship marketing is a key to build and maintain your MLM business. Relationship marketing is really all about building personal relationships, not selling.

People get started in a MLM business and they think that all they have to do is place an ad or build a capture page and their MLM business will grow by magic. Unless you are known as a MLM guru and making millions of dollars it really doesn’t work that way. Relationship marketing is all about building and cultivating relationships so you become someone that the other person truly knows, versus knows about.

Here is an example. Many people use social media to build their MLM business. Not by posting links but by meeting people and building a personal relationship so they can at some time talk about business or maybe ask for a referral for their MLM business.

The video below is me reaching out to a friend of mine, Bruce Fowler, on facebook. Bruce is one of the most positive people you will ever find. Now I would love to have Bruce in my business but that’s not the point. I really want to have Bruce as my friend. The morning I shot this video, Bruce had posted a video on facebook about the sunrise over the ocean. We had just had a major snowstorm so I shot a video showing our snow and giving Bruce a shout out.

Of course he responded to it as well as many other people who saw my post on facebook. Do you think this is helping grow my MLM business? Of course it is! Bruce might not ever be in my business but I am cultivating personal relationships with not only Bruce but with all the other people who saw my video on facebook. This is a form of relationship marketing.

Most people know about 250 people in their personal and business network. As I build personal relationships outside of the 250 people I already know I am adding to my network. Not only that specific person but as we become friends both of us will introduce each other to our own networks so we are actually building each of our networks through relationship marketing.

Not that is not saying my goal in building a relationship with someone is to get them in my business or to get a friend of theirs in my business. My goal is to build a relationship so we can see if we can help each other and create a win-win for both of us.

You can build a successful network marketing business if you are willing to work and be consistent in your business. The true hard fact is, most people who join a network marketing opportunity will usually do very little. People start their business and are very excited but when they hit their first obstacle and they find out this is not going to be as easy as they thought they usually stop.

To build a successful network marketing business where you make enough residual income to become financially independent there are some specific things you need to do. By doing a little research on the top leaders in the network marketing you will find they have done these things to do build a huge business.

Here are 5 steps to maximize and build a successful network marketing business

1. Develop a personal story. This is very important. People want to know you and want to know they are joining someone successful. So what made you pull out your credit card to join? What were the steps that made you successful? People want to know if they can do the same thing you did. They are looking for someone they can believe in. If you do not have a success story right away make sure you know someone else’s success story.
2. Work on personal development. Network marketing is a personal development business. This is not a brick and mortar business where people will walk into your business. You need to develop some skills. Read books, listen to audios, go to seminars and make sure you attend network marketing events. Keep learning about what other leaders are doing in the industry.
3. Do not expect your upline to build your business for you. Many people when they are looking at a business think that if they join a superstar’s team that they are on their way. Well let me tell you something. They are not going to build the business for you. To build a successful network marketing business you are going to have to continue to grow and become a leader yourself. That is not saying your upline won’t help you but they are usually going to show you things that will make you successful and then they are going to get out of the way.
4. Network marketing is a numbers game. If you think you can come into network marketing or MLM and show your business to ten people and you will successful then you are mistaken. This is a numbers game and you need to get good at showing your opportunity or product to people every day. Most people start out using a list of names of people they know but you will have to continue to build your list. There are different ways of prospecting and if you can learn how to build your list online then you are ahead of the game. Building online is not easy to begin with but once you have learned how people will be coming to you.
5. Learn how to duplicate. Keep looking for people to replace yourself. As you learn skills make sure you share them with your downline. Not everyone is going to do what you do but if a couple learn your skills then you are on your way. To build a successful network marketing business you will need to develop leaders. The more leaders you can develop the bigger your business will grow.

One of my biggest mistakes was thinking I could help or save everybody. All you can do is teach them how to be successful and if they want to build a successful network marketing business then they have to go to work.

In August of 2008, I was shown a tool called SendOutCards by a friend of mine that he thought I could use in my business. This friend was very successful so when he first asked me if he could show me something that he thought was really cool and that might be a good fit for my business, of course I told him I would take a look. He showed me the system first, which was really pretty cool and then he said he actually is building a business with SendOutCards. That kind of threw me off because now I had to figure out if the Opportunity with SendOutCards was the real deal or not.

The system made sense to me right away. Like most young children, I was trained by my parents to send thank you cards and little notes to my family, relatives and friends.

I also knew the value of sending greeting cards and handwritten notes in my business. I worked hard to develop new customers and clients but I also needed to develop loyalty with my customers and clients. The best way to do that was to build a personal relationship and sending out greeting cards just made great sense.

But when I was shown the Opportunity and it was built around network marketing or MLM marketing concept I was a little surprised. I knew many people make a lot of money inside the MLM model but I just didn’t know if I would be good at it.

But here is the deal. I loved the product. Getting started did not cost me an arm and a leg. And I truly thought that I could at least get my money back just by showing this to a few people. But to tell you the truth, deep down I wanted to make the big money that is in the MLM industry. I wanted the life style that you can get by building a MLM business. The key is building residual income.

My wife and I have always loved traveling but whenever we traveled we came back to having to pay off our credit card bill from the trip. I wanted to build residual income so I would be getting paid while I was traveling.

I knew there was going to be a learning curve and I knew I would probably have to grow as a person. But who doesn’t want to learn more and who doesn’t want to grow as a person.

For any people that are starting out in network marketing, one of their fears is how to become a leader in network marketing. More and more people are getting involved in network marketing these days because of the fact that they know the income possibilities in a network marketing business. They also are looking for the lifestyle that successful people have in network marketing. People are looking for a way to have more time for themselves and more time to be with their family. Both of these can be achieved through network marketing. But the question remains, how do you become a leader in network marketing?

Here Are Steps On How To Become A Leader In Network Marketing

1. Learn as much as you can – everyone is qualified to become a leader in network marketing. In this industry, you don’t need a diploma, degree or really any sort of educational background to become successful. The first step you need to do however to achieve success and to become a leader in network marketing is to learn. And the great news is that the skills needed to become successful in this industry are easily learned. Plug in to your system, your team and your sponsor as much as possible within your first 90 days. Shoot make sure you stay plugged in and learn as much as you can. Make personal development a life-time goal.

2. Apply – once you have developed some leadership, sales and marketing skills, it’s time to apply those skills into action. You need to start taking action and do it consistently. Remember knowledge without action is useless. That is a fact! The best part of this is you don’t need to learn everything all at once before taking action. Take it bit by bit and take action.

3. Teach – once equipped with your leadership, sales and marketing skills, it’s now your turn to teach your team how to become a network marketing leader. You can easily find out who the leaders are in your organization or network because leaders reveal themselves! Teach your team how to effectively do sales and marketing, how to do the network marketing business the right way and of course how to sponsor people into their business.

4. Duplicate – network marketing is a business of duplication. Without duplication you and your team will not succeed. So if you teach your team how to effectively sell and sponsor people like clockwork, expect your team and network marketing business to explode! If you use a system that is helping you to sponsor new business partners and distributors into your business, then show them the system. Whatever it is that you’re doing that is helping you succeed and achieve your goals in your network marketing business, duplicate it on your team.

If you are looking for ways to get more positive results in your life, one of the most important things is for you to maintain a positive attitude in every situation. There are many things you cannot control but you can control your attitude about things. I cannot control the behavior of others, but I can control my behavior. At times life throws difficult things at us and we have a choice. We can let situations affect us or we can commit to trying to find the positive in every situation. Here are some things I do that help me in my life every day and hopefully you can incorporate them to help you in your life to get more positive results.

My List of 8 Ways To Get Positive Results

1. Write down your expectations of the day. I have found if I write down what I am going to expect out of each day it really helps me make a commitment of following through on what I was going to do. By doing this in the morning, even when something comes up that throws me off, I find myself trying to achieve what I expected to do.
2. Make a list and prioritize your list. I have done this for most of my life and my habit is to make my list at night. Then in the morning I will read my list and then I prioritize the list. If I find I cannot finish my list I just bring it over to the next day.
3. Smile. I think this is one of the most important things you should do. Smile at everyone you see. Smiling at people will bring out the happiness inside you but many people will smile back and it will bring out the happiness in them. People like being around happy, positive people so you will be attracting people to you.
4. Keep your conversations positive. So many people when asked how they are doing tend to answer with a negative answer. Don’t let that be you. Of course there is a time and place for venting but try to make your everyday conversations positive.
5. Try to find the good in others. You are not going to get along with everyone but you will find most people are good people. You never know what is going on in someone’s life. Maybe they are really going through some challenging times so I would really try to find the good or the positive in people.
6. Eat healthy and enjoy your exercise. When you eat right, you will find yourself with way more energy and you just feel like you can take on the day. You don’t have to be an exercise maniac. Just do something every day. You can just go for a walk. Just try to do something every day for about a half hour a day. The endorphins you produce while exercising can make you feel re-energized and ready to go.
7. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Many things pop up in your life that are not life and death. Don’t let the small things wreck your day. If your car breaks down that is a pretty big deal but not being able to find a light bulb isn’t the biggest thing in your day. Just don’t get upset over the small things.
8. I write in my journal every evening. It is really my gratitude journal and at the end of the day just write down what you are thankful for. If you do this write before you go to bed and you write something you are thankful for you will find you get better sleep and it is much easier to be positive the next morning.

I’ll be honest with you. It isn’t always easy to be positive all the time, but you sometimes have to “fake it ‘til you make it.” If you commit yourself to being positive each and every day you will actually feel more positive and you will find you are achieving the results you want.
