I was at party last evening and met a woman who said she knew me and I was famous. I laughed until I realized she was serious and subscribes to my newsletter and blog. Then she reminded me I was overdue for a blog entry.
Thank you.

On the eve of the next to last day of the year, I am grateful. I am grateful for all that took place in 2013, grateful for what is coming forward for all of us in 2014 and grateful for the blessing of being able to do the work I do. Thank you for being a part of it. Happy New Year.

I know the power and value of the Weekly Review and recently I realized the importance of even just one piece of the practice. I was working with a client today and there were three or four things on the calendar view portion that were valuable catches of things still needing completion. If you are feeling daunted by an hour (at a minimum) review, do the calendar a week back and forward a month...and the lists. The whole thing is the goal and each piece is a part of the whole.

Inner Directed To-Do's

When I am willing to stop and listen for inner direction, I often receive an inner to-do list that varies yet compliments my outer to-do list, or even overrides it. My ego is often surprised with the change in course as it hadit all figured out. However I am noticing the grace being extended when I listen and let go of trying to control, think, analyze or push myself to complete what I thought I should. Amazingly enough everything falls into place when I cooperate. The things on my outer to-do lists (that I was so intent on doing) magically get handled and often better than I had planned.

If your mind is anything like mine it can produce an idea a second. In order to keep up with my mind, Ichoose tocapture what I am given the second I receive it.If I forget, the idea or thing to do either disappears entirely or recycles again and again clogging up my creative brain units.I seecapturing as an honoring of my creativity delivering messages for my review.

The Small Little Steps

Big change doesn't usually come about all at once (except when it does). It is the small consistentsteps we take as part of a regular practicethat lead us to wonderful changes in behavior, attitudeand awareness. Commit to start one small consistent positive practice today that would make a difference in your life and maintain it in the days ahead. It can take as little asten seconds to complete. One practice I began years ago and still do every night is to take a moment to look into my eyes until I smile inside with loving appreciation for myself and all that I did during the day.

Listening can overide logical sense

In approaching the business day, listening becomes key to moving forward. What if what is on your agenda for the day is not the best course of action? Making time to listen vs. reacting can make a big difference in outcomes. What "makes logical sense" in my experience is not always the best move. Our own inner leads are available to us all the time if we set the intention to listen. We all have that ability to attune to the perfect next step for us. Sometimes we override it out of our habit of thinking we know using the mind vs listening and honoring our deeper inner knowing. Take a risk and listen past the planned agenda and see if there is a more valuable next action on which to focus.

Ask Don't Guess

It is easy to assume the circumstances behind an action. Yet, how could we possible know without asking. Someone I respect and had not yet met recently unsubscribed to my newsletter. I wrote them an email to confirm they had been removed and said I would still love to meet them when next they were in town. I received an immediate response that they didn't mean to unsubscribe and had delegated the task of getting off so many lists to an associate. So my original assumption that they no longer liked reading the newsletter was inaccurate. It's always good to check things out.

Buckets for the Lists

People are always talking about their bucket lists. The other day when a client used that expression, I heard the words "buckets for the lists."

It is so helpful to not have to look through everything when you can go directly to where the item would be. Having receipts in one location vs scattered about, electronic accessories in a zipper bag vs scattered around the briefcase, errands on a separate list from actions on the computer, ideas not mixed in with to-dos, etc.

I think the reason we all love going to The Container Store (US store) or any stores that sell containers is that it is helpful to have systems in place that allow us more freedom for the creative parts of us who otherwise would be looking and hunting for things.
