Turns out that - CD launch gig not withstanding - New York is the venue for the launch of the ongoing world tour... Can't really get much better than that, now can you?

The tentative itinerary is as follows:

Wednesday: Arctica Bar at 9.30 (384 Third Ave, NY)
Thursday: R Bar (The Tower Of Song) at 6pm (218 Bowery, NY) and
Ground Support at 8pm (399 West Broadway, NY)
Saturday: Banjo Jims at 2.30pm (700 East Ninth St, NY) and
Paddy Reilly's Music Bar at 6.00pm (519 Second Ave, NY)

I say tentative, because these are open-mic venues and the plan is to get there with enough time to book a slot and do 2 or 3 tracks from the CD and, perhaps, sell a few at the same time. On Thursday and Saturday we're going to try to wedge in two of them, cos we're greedy.

We? Who's this we? Well, Sarah Anderson, backing vocalist extraordinaire and best friend bought the tickets to NY and rooms at the Chelsea Hotel (The freakin' Chelsea HOTEL!!!) as a present for my 50th (and as a best man gift too) so she's coming along to enjoy the trip and repeat them backing vocals which got her so well reviewed a few weeks back.

As soon as I'm back, my plan is to start noising up all the folk clubs in Britain to get some gigs - my own or support slots, I don't much mind. I just need to play this music...

Okay, we have a brand new bit of download goodness for you. Over on the Downloads link to Bandcamp you'll find unCooked - an ep of demos and more-or-less original versions of a few things.

I've been quietly whittling away at the old social media thing, checking out other musicians and adding them to reverbNation and mySpace and I have to say I'm having fun doing it. It's massively inspiring hearing the work of independents around the world. Really inspiring. It's time consuming though, so I need to cut back my online time and get out on the road...

Well, not so much the river as the internet, but I'm sure you get the idea.

I wasn't sure if I was going to upload any more videos from the Launch gig, because flubs, brown notes and lost lyrics do not an impressive video make - but I decided that the whole point of it was the spirit of the thing. There were nerves, there were people in the audience, so there were flubs. What can I say...?

In addition to that I've also created ringtones - ringtones, I ask you. Well, actually, it wasn't me exactly... rather it was those fine folks over at reverbNation (see link at the bottom of the site) who create it and ponk it all over the world. I just never, ever thought I'd see the day.

I'm hoping that by the end of this coming week I'll have some news about gigs. I've been messing about for long enough - it's time to get out there...!!

Video enhanced the radio star

... not that I'm a radio star by any means, you understand. Although I have had a few plays on Leith FM...

The eagle eyed among you will have noticed that there's now a video page on this very site. For now it's just a single clip from the Album Launch gig, but over the next few weeks and months I plan to experiment a little with massively low cost (or no cost) video recording to try to create a few promos. This one uses video from the gig recorded by Sarah Anderson on her Mini DV camera, manually synched up to audio recorded by Rick Bamford and Kirsty Sutherland. Sheer luck meant I got it synched in one go.

This has been a fairly technological week, actually. In addition to the video editing, I've added two rss feeds and I'm in the middle of automating them so that all I have to do is blog or update the news page, and the feed is instantly updated too. I know that most of the blogs out there do that anyway, but this is all fairly new to me and I'd rather keep the whole thing to a single site. I already have to outsource video hosting to youTube (or one of it's competitors at least) so I'd like to limit that wherever possible.

Still working on databases and research, but I reckon I'll have my first gigs booked by the middle to end of next week. Naturally you'll be the first to know...

In between writing press releases and organising databases, tour plans and photos - also for the press release Im still setting up random bits of the website and trying to write more songs. Not that the actual writing is difficult - its finding the time to write them thats the problem.

In the meantime, Ive just heard that the live audio recordings of the launch gigs sound great, and that Im going to get them in the next day or two. Once I get them, Ill upload a few tracks to the download page/Bandcamp. Im also sitting on a video of the show which I havent even had the time to look at, never mind upload. Ill be getting to that soon too.

Honest.

Busy, busy, busy!

Over the last week or so Ive been beavering away in the background with a bunch of different things. Ideally, Id be booking gigs, rehearsing and getting ready to travel the country... in reality Ive been working on the backend of the website, visiting accountants, administration, working on websites for others and building lists of information and endless to-do lists.

Who said music wasnt glamourous?

CD sales and downloads continue apace and as youll see from the news section to your left, there are performances (though not as many as Im planning!), so I dont spend my entire day in front of the laptop - just most of it.

Its July, which means its time for the online songwriting challenge again. This time I havent posted a single song so far, but I have 3 months in which to write something, so Im not worried. I have lots of ideas for new songs, I just dont have the head space to sit and write them just yet. Like I said - busy, busy, busy...
