IT security consultant Denis Andzakovic, 22, created a motorcycle that also doubles as a Wi-Fi security testing machine.

Andzakovic, an avid biker since age 15, equipped his motorcycle with a Raspberry Pi, a heads-up display (HUD) integrated in a bike helmet, GPS, a laptop, routers and wireless sniffing and attack tools.

The bike can detect Wi-Fi access points upon passes them and plot these access points on Google Maps. The access points are reflected on the display in different colors indicating what type of security they use. The amount of data transmitted between the bike and the access points are also shown in a bar graph at the center of the display.

Andzakovic can kick users off their Wi-Fi networks using the Wi-Fi scanning bike by sending out deauthentication packets. He can also hack into protected access points using the data that the bike collected. Andzakovic intends to use the bike for wireless network penetration tests.

Andzakovic presented the bike at the AusCERT security conference on the Gold Coast.

Canadian scientist Catherine La Farge brought back to life a moss that had been frozen under Arctic glaciers for 400 years.

On an annual trip to the Arctic, a Canadian scientist spotted some moss that had previously been frozen under glaciers for about 400 years. When she took the plant back to the lab, she wondered if it could be brought back to life. Yes, yes it could.

SEE ALSO: Plants Can Hear You!

University of Alberta biologist Catherine La Farge and her colleagues go on annual trips to the Teardrop glacier on Ellesmere Island, located in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

In the past few years, she’s watched the glacier retreat, exposing rock, mud and ancient moss that had been buried under the ice since the Little Ice Age, which lasted from 1550 to 1850, Sheila Pratt reported in the Edmonton Journal.

La Farge specializes in studying ancient moss, a type of plant called bryophytes. Usually, the moss under the ice looks black and dead, but La Farge noticed some moss near the glacier retreat that was still slightly greenish. She decided to bring it back to the lab, and told the Edmonton Journal that upon closer inspection, she noticed a tiny green stem and decided to see whether the plant could be revived.

“I could see some of the stems actually had new growth of green lateral branches, and that said to me that these guys are regenerating in the field, and that blew my mind,” she told BBC News.

After being ground up and placed in petri dishes with potting soil for several weeks, some of the moss samples did indeed begin growing. A few months later, the dishes were full of the zombie moss. The results of La Farge’s scientific study with her University of Alberta colleagues was just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

These are some super special plants. Unlike most land plants we know, bryophytes lack the vascular tissue that helps pump fluids around different parts of the organism, the BBC News reported. Instead, they reproduce by cloning their cells — and all you really need to keep it going is one.

The fact that these plants could come back after being frozen for hundreds of years has some intense implications. Scientists are studying bryophytes for potential medical use, and La Farge suggested sending some to Mars to see how the moss fares there.

Given the unprecedented pace of glacier retreats, what other secrets will the ice give up?

Apple is buying companies more frequently now than in previous years, according to CEO Tim Cook.

Yahoo isn’t the only company ramping up acquisitions in recent months. Apple is speeding up its rate of buying companies, too.

During the D: All Things Digital conference Tuesday night, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to a question asking why Apple doesn’t use its massive cash pile to buy more companies: He noted that it has actually acquired nine companies since the fiscal year began in October.

“Pre this year, we were probably on a pace of acquiring maybe a company every 60 to 75 days or so, so we might get to six in a year,” Cook said. “This fiscal year, again starting in October, we’ve acquired already nine companies.”

SEE ALSO: Watch the Full Interview With Tim Cook at AllThingsD

However, the vast majority of these acquisitions have been small enough that Apple was not required to disclose them publicly. The only acquisition that Apple has confirmed in that time period is WifiSLAM, an indoor mapping startup. Reports circulated in October that Apple had acquired Color Labs, the struggling startup behind the video-sharing app Color.

In the interview, Cook mentioned that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of making a major acquisition in the future. “We’re not currently looking at a big one, but we’re not opposed to doing that if it made sense,” he said. “The keys for us are would it help us make a great product and would the culture fit in Apple.”

Cook also poured cold water on rumors of Apple’s talks to buy Waze, a startup also reportedly in negotiations with Facebook for a $1 billion acquisition cost.

Meet Ray Charles, a rescued golden retriever that was born blind on December 8, 2012. The puppy is currently winning over hearts on the Internet with his smiling face and adorable outfits.

Ray Charles was one of five surviving puppies in a litter — he was also the only male. Shortly after birth, the breeder noticed he wasn’t running around with the other puppies, which led to a trip to the vet. After discovering the puppy was blind, the breeder debated putting the dog down because of his condition.

Andrew Fales heard about Ray Charles and decided to save the little guy, bringing the pup to his Boston home to join his three other golden retrievers. Fales created a Facebook Page for “RC,” which currently has more than 33,000 fans.

Ray Charles’ impaired vision hasn’t stopped his ability to run, jump and play like any other dog, Fales says. The pup even completed puppy school and belongs to the American Kennel Club’s S.T.A.R. puppy program.

“Don’t feel sorry for me!” the puppy tells fans on his Facebook Page. “I love to make people happpy and smile and bring joy to everyone around me!”

Amazon has begun production on five original TV series — Alpha House, Betas, Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf — that will debut on its U.S. and UK streaming video services later this year and in early 2014.

Amazon unveiled 14 pilots for potential TV shows last month, asking for viewers to submit feedback and vote for their favorites. The chosen series aren’t necessarily those with the most votes, but it’s fair to assume that user feedback played a part in the final selections.

Interestingly, three of the shows — Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf — are geared toward children, an increasingly important target in Amazon’s other divisions as well as competitors Hulu and Netflix. (The latter lost some of that programming last weekend after Nickelodeon declined to renew a deal with the company.)

The other two shows are both adult comedies. Alpha House is a political comedy starring John Goodman (of Roseanne fame), and Betas centers around employees at a social media startup.

In a statement, Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, indicated that Amazon will introduce more original pilots in the near future that viewers can vote on. “The success of this first set of pilots has given us the push to try this approach with even more shows — this is just the beginning,” he said.

Amazon has built a sizable video library over the past few years by licensing content from major studios. Now, like Netflix and Hulu, it’s moving into more original content. Clearly, Amazon hopes to add incentive for consumers to subscribe to its own as well as other streaming video providers, just as many consumers already subscribe to multiple cable channels.

Today, we’re looking at three particularly interesting stories. Apple is working on … something. That’s according to All Things D, where Apple CEO Tim Cook was on stage Tuesday for the D11 tech conference. Spotify has launched a new component in its web-based music app, called Discover. And the most popular activity on smartphones is still talking, believe it or not. It accounts for 26% of time spent on a phone every day.

Check out the video above for more on these stories.

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann won’t seek a fifth term in Congress next year, she announced in a YouTube video released early Wednesday.

“I have decided next year I will not seek a fifth Congressional term,” says Bachmann, who has served in the House of Representatives since 2007. She’s been on the House Intelligence Committee since 2011.

Bachmann, who made a failed bid for the Republican presidential nomination last year, later added the decision is not related to ongoing investigations of her campaign’s fundraising methods.

“This decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff,” she said.

Bachmann’s presidential campaign strategy relied on garnering Tea Party support. However, Tea Party conservatives never truly rallied behind Bachmann. Instead, they flirted with several other candidates — including Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Herman Cain — before putting their energy behind former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Santorum eventually lost the nomination to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who went on to lose the general election to Barack Obama.

Bachmann’s choice to announce her retirement from Congress via YouTube makes her the latest politician to sidestep the media in announcing a major decision directly to voters — just last week, Anthony Weiner officially announced his New York City mayoral campaign via YouTube.

After more than a dozen companies pulled advertising on the social network following a boycott campaign, Facebook vowed to do a better job of policing domestic violence imagery on the network.

“In recent days, it has become clear that our systems to identify and remove hate speech have failed to work as effectively as we would like, particularly around issues of gender-based hate,” Marne Levine, VP of Global Public Policy, wrote on Facebook’s official blog. “In some cases, content is not being removed as quickly as we want. In other cases, content that should be removed has not been or has been evaluated using outdated criteria.”

In response, Levine wrote that the company plans to review and update guidelines regarding hate speech on the network. Facebook plans to work with “legal experts and others, including representatives of the women’s coalition and other groups that have historically faced discrimination,” she wrote.

In addition, Facebook plans to update the training for teams that evaluate claims of hate speech and increase the accountability of the creators of “insensitive” content. A few months ago, the company initiated a policy in which authors of such offensive content were required to attach their authentic identity to it.

In her blog post, Levine stresses that while the often-hard-to-define hate speech is verboten on the social network, offensive speech is OK. “While there is no universally accepted definition of hate speech, as a platform we define the term to mean direct and serious attacks on any protected category of people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or disease,” she wrote.

Levine’s statement comes after a coalition of watchdog groups initiated a boycott of Facebook and charged that there was too much language and imagery on the site that glorified violence against women.

Examples of such content included a meme with a picture of a woman whose mouth was taped, surrounded by the caption: “Don’t wrap it and tap it. Tape her and rape her.” The group also called on advertisers to flee the social network and started the hashtag #FBRape to pressure Facebook. According to Think Progress, some 15 advertisers took part in the boycott, including Nationwide UK and Nissan UK.

Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage at the D: All Things Digital conference Tuesday night for the second year in a row. While several of last year’s questions focused on Cook’s vision for the company in his first full year in charge, this year’s interview centered around Apple’s apparent decline.

Cook assured viewers that Apple has “absolutely not” lost its cool and still has “several more game changers in us,” but he remained vague about the company’s future. He suggested that Apple is interested in wearable computing — but for the wrist, not the eyes — and offered a canned response similar to last year’s comment about the need for a company to improve on the household television experience.

While Cook did not reveal any major product news — last year, he noted that Ping would be killed off — he did confirm that Apple’s design guru Jony Ive is in charge of the refresh for iOS 7, which should be previewed next month at WWDC. Cook also revealed that Apple has used some of its cash reserves to acquire nine companies so far this year.

You can watch the complete 81-minute interview from last night below:

3D-printing studio Shapeways unveiled a new app Wednesday that allows customers to create their own 3D-printed rings without the need for sophisticated 3D-modeling software.

To create a ring, just create and upload a flat, black-and-white pattern to Shapeways’ Custom Ring App. The flat pattern will be printed in a ring shape, as you can see in the examples below:

Rings cost as little as $2.30 and as much as $130 or more, depending on the material chosen. If creating a ring from scratch is intimidating, you can choose to modify and print a ring from a range of pre-existing templates.

The Toshiba Portégé Z10t is a Windows 8 hybrid for business users. The screen detaches from the keyboard dock to become a tablet. It can be configured with either Windows 8 Pro or Windows 7, and it starts at $1,499.

Click here to view this gallery.

While IT managers aren’t exactly jumping at Windows 8, manufacturers are rising to the occasion to create new kinds of PCs that cater to the needs of enterprise. The Portégé Z10t is Toshiba’s first take on a Windows 8 hybrid PC for business users.

Except it doesn’t have to be a Windows 8 machine. Although the Z10t ships with Windows 8 Pro by default, customers can configure it to run 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. This might help convince a few businesses to consider the Portégé, since recent research from Forrester Research points to enterprise customers basically skipping Windows 8.

Still, it’s designed for touch: The Z10t is a hybrid, meaning it’s a laptop until you detach the 11.6-inch screen from the keyboard dock and then it becomes a tablet. Similar to the Surface Pro, it ships with a pair of digitizing pens, and the screen has a fingerprint-resistant coating that makes it feel more like writing on paper. One pen is in the box; another slips into a hole on the device.

SEE ALSO: Toshiba Debuts a Windows 8 Laptop for the Filthy Rich

That coating also reduces glare, and the IPS (in-plane switching) LCD tech prevents brightness and color from dropping off too much if you view the screen from the side. From a brief hands-on with the new Portégé, I can also say it feels good to the fingertip, in contrast to many gloss Windows 8 screens that are a little too “sticky.”

The screen pops into the keyboard dock just by sliding down, but it won’t come out again unless you slide the release button and lift. That way, users can still grab and carry the laptop by the screen when necessary. It weighs 3.1 pounds.

Customers can configure the Portégé Z10t with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and 128 or 256GB of storage. RAM is 4GB, but when Intel’s Haswell chips arrive, Toshiba will offer an 8GB option. A fingerprint reader, which will be integrated on the top edge of the tablet, is optional.

In the few minutes I had to explore the Z10t, I found it to be an unremarkable hybrid PC, designed purely around function — exactly what you want in a workhorse machine. The matte screen makes the experience a little less “poppy” than you’d find on, say, a Surface Pro, but as an anti-glare feature, it works great.

The Portégé Z10t starts shipping today, starting at $1,499 (Core i5/128GB/4GB RAM), which includes a three-year warranty.

Do you ever wish a cold drink would magically appear in your hand on a hot summer day? It might just happen in the near future, as researchers at Cornell University have developed a robot which can predict what you want to do next.

The mind-reading robot — a PR2 personal robot designed by Willow Garage, equipped with a Microsoft Kinect 3D camera — does that by analyzing your body movements. It then searches through its database of various household activities and decides which action will likely follow.

Let’s say you’re done with your lunch and you want to place the leftovers into the fridge. The robot sees that you’re picking up a container with food and proceeds to open the fridge for you, as that action is very likely to happen next.

The robot could also pour your beer or coffee, put the dirty dishes away as well as a number of other menial tasks.

“We extract the general principles of how people behave. Drinking coffee is a big activity, but there are several parts to it,“ said Ashutosh Saxena, Cornell professor of computer science and co-author of a new study tied to the research.

Scientists from Cornell claim the robot made correct predictions 82% of the time when looking one second into the future, 71% for three seconds and 57% for 10 seconds.

According to Saxena, the next step is improving on robot’s reactions to the predictions. “The future would be to figure out how the robot plans its action. Right now we are almost hard-coding the responses, but there should be a way for the robot to learn how to respond,” he said.

The Financial Times is taking the wraps off fastFT, a 24-hour financial news-commentary wire that promises, in the words of FT editor Lionel Barber, to “deliver up-to-the-minute reporting and comment in short, sharp and informed dispatches.”

“When 140 characters doesn’t cut it, fastFT will go beyond the headlines, providing context and opinion in quick, authoritative reports with a level of transparency and personality that isn’t available elsewhere,” Barber wrote in a memo shared with Mashable.

FastFT will be run by a team of eight editorial staff members: three in New York, three in London and two in Hong Kong, according to an FT spokesperson. Other FT journalists, as well as guest writers, will also contribute, the spokesperson added.

In concept, fastFT is much like The Atlantic Wire, which offers commentary and opinion on breaking news from around the web from a dedicated staff at The Atlantic magazine. Whereas the Wire pays particular attention to U.S. news, politics, culture and entertainment however, the FT will focus on global financial markets, allowing the paper to deliver news commentary and analysis faster and less formally than its standard article format allows. As such, it will be able to more effectively compete with faster, business-focused news outlets such as Business Insider and the WSJ‘s blog network.

Forget trowels and pruners — gardeners now have another, more high-tech tool at their disposal. A new point-and-shoot camera called “Infragram” can transform into a plant monitor that tells you how healthy your garden is.

Public Lab’s Infragram camera won’t break the bank, and highlights plant growth by taking advantage of near-infrared technology, as explained in the above video. Public Lab, also known as the Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science, is a community that works on affordable, do-it-yourself versions of scientific equipment.

In the process of converting sunlight into sugars, plants actually absorb red and blue light. Since infrared light is not absorbed, however, Public Lab’s near-infrared camera can help compare infrared with visible light to show how productive the plant cells are.

The technology can highlight plant growth, which Infragram’s creators say could be useful for everyone from gardeners to organic farmers and wetlands activists. This photographic technique isn’t new, but Public Lab’s handheld version is available at an affordable price.

SEE ALSO: Keep Plants Alive with These 3 Techie Tools

With 38 days left in its campaign, Public Lab has already surpassed its $30,000 goal on Kickstarter.

For a $10 pledge, backers can get a do-it-yourself filter, and for a $35 pledge, backers will get the Infragram Webcam, which is a “cheap, barebones webcam for taking composite photos.” For a $95 pledge or higher, backers can get the Infragram Point & Shoot, which is “a simple but experimental camera for taking infrared/visible photos.”

Public Lab already has three successfully funded Kickstarter projects for open-source environmental tools under its belt. One was a grassroots effort to map the effects of the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast.

The Force may be strong with one handheld laser that its creator describes as a “homemade lightsaber.”

The laser, which emits a blue light and includes a metal handle, can torch through paper, tape, ping-pong balls, cardboard and wooden splints, among other items. Watch for yourself in the video, above.

“Here my BEAST 3000 mW [milliwatt] laser goes up against a bunch of flammable stuff. Most thing slight instantly when placed in the beam of this laser!” the laser’s creator, YouTube user styropyro, says in the video’s description. “This is the most powerful handheld laser that I’ve ever used!”

He adds, “I usually try to refrain from using the term ‘lightsaber’ when referring to my lasers, but there really isn’t much else out there to describe this laser.”

Would you consider the device a lightsaber? Give us your take in the comments, below.

When a Chinese farmer couldn’t afford expensive prosthetic arms, he reportedly created his own functional, bionic arms, which later turned him into an entrepreneur.

New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television reports that farmer Sun Jifa, in China’s northern Jilin province, lost his arms years ago when a fishing explosive prematurely went off. Sun could only afford a low-grade pair of prosthetic arms, but they weren’t very useful.

So despite having no instructions, Sun spent eight years building his own steel pair of bionic arms from scratch, NTD Television reported. His story is explained in the video above.

“It transfers power from the natural movement of my elbow into the finger, allowing it to grab and hold,” Sun, 53, told NTD Television.

SEE ALSO: Robohand Provides 3D-Printed Prosthetic Hands and Fingers

But what’s arguably even more remarkable is that Sun then turned his invention into a successful business.

Other amputees soon began requesting their own version of Sun’s prosthetics, according to NTD Television. Today, Sun has reportedly sold over 1,000 steel limbs for about US$490 each.

“By using these hands, I can help the family with chores. I can do some farmwork. I’m not useless,” he told NTD Television. “I really feel a weight has lifted. I feel I’m not a freeloader. I can be useful.”

Week after week, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine urges Americans to vote for the contestants he mentors on NBC’s The Voice. But on Tuesday night’s top 8 results show, viewers unexpectedly heard him proclaim, “I hate this country.”

Levine uttered the brief comment — which you can listen to at the 1:14 mark in the video, below, from the show’s official YouTube page — just moments before America’s votes eliminated his early frontrunners Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons. Seconds earlier, his other finalist Amber Carrington was spared. The moment appears to be the result of a hot mic.

Levine responded early Wednesday morning with dictionary entries on Twitter.

joke-noun1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or prankish act

In Bogotá, Colombia’s capital city, crowdfunding will build a skyscraper, thanks to the donations of 300,000 residents who contributed a total of $170 million. Rodrigo Nino, CEO of Prodigy Network — the company behind the crowdfunded effort — thinks this model can be replicated and even improved upon.

In fact, Nino wants to crowdfund an entire city, as he announced at last week’s PSFK Conference 2013 in New York. It’s why he launched My Ideal City, a website where Colombians can contribute to their cities by sharing ideas and funding projects.

Meet Romain Bechu. He’s a French pro golfer. But maybe, just maybe, his future with the game isn’t in trying to win tournament purses. Maybe insane YouTube videos are his true calling.

That certainly looks to be the case in the clip, above, which Bechu uploaded on Sunday. Watch as he deftly juggles a golf ball with his club, twirling and flipping the putter as he goes. A camera — GoPro, according to the video’s YouTube title — also records the action from Bechu’s perspective, giving us two views of his amazing tricks.

As excitement around Microsoft’s unveiling of the new Xbox One and updated Kinect dies down, the inevitable questions about consumer privacy are now cropping up.

Wary of the Kinect sensor, Peter Schaar, Germany’s federal data protection commissioner, is calling the Xbox One a “monitoring device,” according to a translated report in German news magazine Der Spiegel.

“The Xbox continuously records all sorts of personal information about me. Reaction rates, my learning or emotional states. They are then processed on an external server, and possibly even passed on to third parties. Whether they will ever be deleted, the person cannot influence,” Schaar told Der Spiegel.

It’s true that the enhanced hardware in both the Xbox One and its Kinect companions are remarkable pieces of work. I witnessed first-hand how the sensors can detect not only the pulse in users’ faces, but also their facial expressions and where their attention is directed. During the Xbox launch in Redmond, Wash., Microsoft executives demonstrated how these features can be used to enhance game play, system control, as well as content delivery and consumption.

How much of that data will be stored locally, and how much will go to the always-connected cloud is, for now, unclear.

For its part, Microsoft sought to allay privacy fears with this statement:

“We know our customers want and expect strong privacy protections to be built into our products, devices and services, and for companies to be responsible stewards of their data. Microsoft has more than ten years of experience making privacy a top priority. Kinect for Xbox 360 was designed and built with strong privacy protections in place and the new Kinect will continue this commitment.

We are designing the new Kinect with simple, easy methods to customize privacy settings and provide clear notifications and meaningful privacy choices for how data will be used, stored and shared. We remain fully committed to addressing our customers’ privacy questions in greater detail in the coming weeks.”

There may also be some misconceptions about the Xbox One’s always-on nature. For one: When you walk in the room, is it watching you?

Marc Whitten, corporate vice-president of Xbox Live, told Mashable that while Xbox One will and Kinect will always be on, “it’s not watching you while it’s in low-powered mode.”

Regardless, Xbox One will clearly be the most attentive Xbox we’ve ever seen.

The Xbox One

Ending years of rumors and speculation, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One, the successor to the Xbox 360, on May 21, 2013. The price will be revealed closer to launch (expected holiday), but the new console has superior processing power, comes bundled with the Kinect sensor and has new abilities for watching TV and movies more conveniently.

Click here to view this gallery.

Featuring Justin Bieber, an NFL Hall of Famer, a Ferrari, a Prius, neighborly discord and -- of course -- Twitter, this is Tuesday's strangest story.

Featuring Justin Bieber, an NFL Hall of Famer, a Ferrari, a Prius, neighborly discord and — of course — Twitter, this is Tuesday’s strangest story.

We start with a mid-morning tweet from Eric Dickerson, who is regarded as one of the greatest NFL running backs of all time and a 1999 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Long since retired, Dickerson now resides in the tony Southern California suburb of Calabasas.

Calabasas is also, as it happens, home to the Biebster. And the 19-year-old Bieber’s driving style has apparently rubbed some of his older neighbors the wrong way, as evidenced by Dickerson’s Tuesday morning post:

I live in Calabasas too and @justinbieber needs to slow his ass down.

— Eric Dickerson (@EricDickerson) May 28, 2013

Dickerson’s curmudgeonly tweet didn’t come out of the blue. He was actually backing up Keyshawn Johnson, another former NFL star and Calabasas resident also apparently fed up with how Bieber cruises around the neighborhood.

A Tuesday morning TMZ report said Johnson, driving a Prius, hunted the Ferrari-driving Bieber down in hopes of delivering a little lecture about traffic safety. It’s difficult to explain this rationally, so we’ll just leave three choice paragraphs from the TMZ story right here:

Keyshawn — a former NFL superstar — had just left a party Monday night inside of his exclusive gated community in Calabasas (with his child in the car), when Bieber zoomed by in his Ferrari at breakneck speeds.

We’re told Keyshawn was furious — feeling Justin could’ve killed someone — so he brought his kid home, then chased after the singer in his Prius (yes, a Prius chasing a Ferrari).

When KJ got to Bieber’s pad — he blocked Justin’s Ferrari in the driveway and got out of his car to confront Justin face-to-face … but Justin ran inside of his house and refused to come out.

Bieber may have escaped the reported in-person scolding from Johnson, but Dickerson still wasn’t done with him. Four hours after his original finger-wagging tweet, the Hall of Famer posted this followup:

Hey @justinbieber I use to have a white Ferrari too, but I knew the speed limit in neighborhoods where kids played. twitter.com/EricDickerson/…

— Eric Dickerson (@EricDickerson) May 28, 2013

And there you have it. Only on Twitter, folks. Only on Twitter.

CEO Tim Cook set the record straight during an interview Tuesday evening, remarking that Apple “did not make a bid for Waze” — contrary to reports by several tech publications earlier this year.

According to the rumors, Apple was attempting to acquire Waze in order to fix some of the ongoing issues with Apple Maps.

Cook says that maps are important, which is why you’ve seen Apple investing as much as it has in improving its maps product.

Cooks admits, “We screwed up there,” when it comes to maps, but what the company has now is “greatly improved” from where it started.

Cook was interviewed during All Things Digital’s D11 conference currently being held in southern California. Amongst other remarks, Cook announced that Apple has sold 13 million Apple TVs and that customer satisfaction for Apple products is currently “off the charts.”

Facebook and Google are now rumored to be looking to acquire the social driving app.

Working under the premise that “slow-mo makes everything better,” YouTube added a new slow motion enhancement tool to its built-in editor on Tuesday, making it accessible to everyone who uses the site to create videos.

YouTube’s built-in video editor already has a number of different effects that users can harness when editing their videos. The slow-mo effect was developed in-house at YouTube, using frame analysis to blend intermediate frames together. The result: Videos look like they were shot with a high-speed camera.

Videos that feature slow-motion effects seem to be popular on YouTube. For instance, the Slow Mo Guys channel has more than 2 million subscribers and 220 million overall views.

Check out a slow-mo video created with the editor, above. The original video is posted below:
