Recently on my weekly Relationship Radio Show on in Atlanta, I had the privilege of interviewing relationship coach Bj Moorer. Bj has a bit of a different view of the relationship world.

Bj's interesting take on relationships is best summed up by the title of her brand new ebook "Love, Lies, Men and Women: The Lies We Tell and the Damage They Do"

In the series she is creating, Bj looks at the lies men tell women, the lies women tell men, and the lies couples tell each other about their relationship. While Bj covers all the different types of lies, you must start somewhere, and Bj begins in Volume 1 of her series with the lies men tell women.

That was the topic of my recent interview with her, and now we'll take a look at the top 5 lies men tell women.

Lie 1 - "I'll call you tomorrow" - Men say this so often, and get away with it, because women want to believe it. Bj's advice is to not wait by the phone for the call and go live your life. If the call does not come in the first few days, it is not coming. Move on.

Lie 2 - "I love you"- Too bad this is a common lie that reduces the value of some precious words. Bj' warning is that when it is said too soon in a relationship it is often an attempt at controlling the other person.

Lie 3 - "I'm not married" - The problem is most men say this and most adult men are married so you do the math. If you have a gut feeling that you are being lied to about this, ask for his home phone number and see how he responds.

Lie 4 - "No one understands me like you do" - This one can be designed to get you to feel sorry for him. You know for certain that this is just massive manipulation when it is closely followed by a large request such as borrowing money or asking to move in with you.

Lie 5 - "I'm not seeing anyone else" - Well, maybe. Pay attention to when and how this information is offered in a relationship. Just like some of the other lies, offering this information too soon or when it is not requested is a huge warning sign that someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

One powerful piece of advice offered by coach Bj is to trust your gut instinct. If something is not making sense or adding up, pursue it. Don't try to talk yourself out of it or excuse your intuition away. Pay attention.

Are You a Smart Dater?

Are you a smart dater? Before you answer yes, I've got to tell you that in my experience as a singles and relationship coach, most people are not smart daters. Most singles make at least one if not a series of the most common dating mistakes. Let's take a closer look at each of these mistakes and what to do instead.

Which of these common dating mistakes are you making? Recently on my weekly Relationship Radio Show in Atlanta I had the pleasure of interviewing the husband and wife psychology team of Judith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski on the subject of smart dating. Judith and Jim have designed their own Smart Dating Program for Singles.

According to Judith and Jim, the single biggest mistake that almost every single makes is "playing the dating game." The opposite of smart dating is not dumb dating, it's traditional dating. Quoting Judith and Jim "The traditional way of dating does make it a 'game' and that's the problem - because meeting and mating isn't ever going to succeed when approached like a game."

Approaching dating as a traditional game leads to the following "games" -

- Playing hard to get

- Acting mysterious

- Building up a man's ego

- Acting like her Prince Charming

- Pursuit and capture

- It's just as easy to marry a rich man

- Gotta keep her guessing

- And on and on it goes

Smart dating allows you to approach dating with your head up, knowing what you want and how to get it, and being yourself. So many times, in an attempt to put our best foot forward and make a good impression, we act like someone we are not. Then we wonder why we are so disappointed when we discover the person is not who they portrayed themselves to be. Or you are the one who disappoints because you are not as you portrayed yourself to be.

This false portrayal is based on the fear of rejection. When approach dating as a game, we give a ton of power to the other person, and we can be rejected!

When you approach dating from a smart perspective you cannot be rejected!

Think of it this way - When you are looking for a house, you have a list in mind about which house and what kind of house will be the right one for you. If you or your real estate agent shows you a house that in many ways is a great house, but just not the right one for you, for whatever reason, it is not an issue of rejection. It an issue of not the right fit.

You would not however, try to make the house fit when it can not, or go home feeling rejected by the house. That sounds silly, but it is what we do in relationships.

So get very clear about what you want in a relationship, look for that fit, and do not settle for less. The beauty is when you find someone that fits you and you fit that someone.

And remember, it only takes one!

On the other hand people who have asbestosis and people who have been exposed to asbestos in general are found to be much more likely to develop conditions such as lung cancer in comparison to perfectly healthy individuals.

This is why people who have been exposed to asbestos, or have any related or unrelated chest problems should consider quitting smoking or at least cutting down on their habits if they want to dramatically eliminate the possibility of developing lung cancer, or any lung problems in the near to far future.

More Deadly Than Others

All good sun protection advice includes wearing a hat to protect against sun exposure. One of the most important reasons behind this advice is the little known fact that scalp and neck cancers can be more deadly than skin cancers diagnosed elsewhere on the body. Researchers have found that although only six percent of melanoma patients present with head and neck melanomas, they account for 10 percent of melanoma deaths.

Dermatologists have been aware of this fact for some time. They used to think the lethality occurred because scalp and neck melanomas were not diagnosed as early as other skin cancers. Now, however, they believe that there is something "different" about tumors on the head and neck and many suggest research is needed to look at tumor cell types on the molecular level to identify the mutations that drive malignancy.
While the science behind scalp and neck cancers may not yet be entirely clear, there is one fact upon which all dermatologists agree: Wearing a hat in the sun is critically important for effective sun protection. And, dermatologists also agree that routinely examining the head and neck for suspicious lesions is an important part of self-examinations.
Experts recommend wearing a hat with an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of at least 50+. The UPF should be noted on a hang tag on the hat and the brim should be at least three inches wide to protect the neck. Do not rely upon shampoos and conditioners to provide protection. Coverage is uneven and you are unlikely to "reapply" every two hours.
In addition to wearing a hat, you should check your scalp as a routine part of examining your skin. Using a hair dryer and a comb, make parts through your hair, one row at a time, over the top of your head and down to your ears. Use a hand held mirror to check the back of your head. (If this proves to be too cumbersome, ask a member of your family or your hairdresser to make the check.) And, of course, report anything suspicious immediately to your dermatologist.

Simple Speed Reading Skills That Can Dramatically Improve Your Results

Speed reading skills can be acquired by anyone with a basic reading ability. Anyone can learn to read at a rate far above the average. This isn't something that's available only to the elite. Anyone can dramatically improve their reading and comprehension levels and they can do it without investing big money on training programs and materials.

If you earnestly desire to increase your reading speed - you can. But understand that it does take some effort. You can achieve a noticeable improvement almost immediately with a few basic techniques. But you'll need to use those techniques over and over again to turn them into speed reading skills that you employ automatically.

Measure your current reading speed. If you don't already know how fast you read, take a moment to get a rough measurement now. You'll need several pages of text and a timer. Set the timer for one minute and read at your usual rate. Stop as soon as timer sounds and count the number of lines you just read. Next, take a typical line of text from your reading material and total the number words on that line. Multiply this figure by the number lines read and you'll have an approximate number of the words per minute (WPM) you normally read.

This gives you a starting point.

It doesn't matter how close (or distant) you are from the average reader who consumes somewhere around 175 - 225 words per minute. What matters is that you have a foundation to build upon.

Like learning any skill, practice is required. You can't do the exercises one time and think that's all there is to it. Repetition will get you to higher and higher reading speeds.

Most readers regress and that's a definite no-no for speed readers. You simply cannot go back and re-read something you've already covered. That one negative habit slows more people down than just about anything. Force yourself to move on regardless. Train your brain to consume all it can see because you're never going back.

Pace yourself. You can easily increase your reading speed by using your finger. The simple act of using your pen or finger to move your eyes across the page faster means you'll be reading faster right away. If you consistently do this -- always moving forward and never regressing -- you will dramatically boost your reading rate. But most of us have to overcome that early conditioning taught in school to read with our eyes and not with our hands. It's unfortunate. Using your hands makes a huge improvement.

Vary your reading rate. Know what it is you're looking for and focus your attention on finding it. This means that irrelevant material can often be bypassed entirely or gobbled-up quickly. Then when you discover those segments that reveal the information sought after, slow down a bit and absorb the significant words and phrases to grasp the meaning of the message.
