“Hollow” video from Linda Draper’s album Edgewise — really proud of this project I mastered and of Linda’s songwriting/vision. Matt Keating produced the album.

The latest album from Linda Draper is set for release on May 21. Edgewise was produced by fellow musician Matt Keating and the first single is “Hollow.” The video for “Hollow” was shot on Long Island’s Montauk Point. Draper explains, “I stood a few feet away from the edge of a cliff during this shoot and I only noticed the sign stating ‘Stay Back! Cliffs Compromised Due To Erosion!’ afterward.” This is fitting as the song itself relates to risks and a conversation Draper overheard on an airplane, in which a woman was discussing how her stepson needed to give up his goal of becoming a writer and “get it out of his system.”

OY/FRIEND—New York’s Shan Poo—just released one of the best free R&B album of the year. (See also: SZA.) Though at times derivative of contemporary pillars of the genre—and openly so, with the album tagged on Soundcloud with the names of The-Dream, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean, as well as HBO and Girls—that can’t lessen the fact that “About Love” and “Time Spent” and “Good 2 U” hit hard as hell. The delightfully titled Leather Weather LP was mostly produced (and entirely co-written) by fellow newcomer MNTN, with fine contributions by Sweater Beats and a remix by Kuhryee-OO.

Have a look and listen to Theophilus London’s album leading single “Rio” with The Menahan Street Band. I had the pleasure to work with and master this track for T.L. and T.M.S.B.

Theophilus London must be the type of musician who gets easily inspired by his surroundings: When we last heard from him in February, he was rhyming about a “Snow Angel,” and now that it’s FINALLY starting to warm up, the Brooklyn rapper is daydreaming of beaches and samba on his latest single, “Rio.” Inspired by a trip to Brazil in 2010, Theophilus called the track an “introduction to the vibe I’m taking for my next, still-untitled full-length.” (And we totally hope it’ll feature Kanye West and Drake like he suggested in December.)

On the woozy, synthy track, featuring a funky backbeat by fellow Brooklynites The Menahan Street Band, Theo tells his girl that even though he’s far away, he’ll always stay true. “Even if you’re in Rio de Janeiro/ I’ll give you all my affection, affection/ Making it easy, if you’re lonely/ You can just call me/ I’ll be there,” he sings on the chorus. (Now, there’s a good boyfriend. Because have you seen what the girls look like in Rio?) So, not only is Theo inspired by his direct surroundings (in this case: beautiful Brazil), but he’s also fueled creatively by love. Hold onto this one mystery lady Theophilus London is writing about. Clearly, dude is sprung.

Recently mastered a series of version for Tommy Boy’s new artist Angi3. Check it out.

Still teetering on the fence between pop princess and raunchy emcee, both sides of ANGI3’s considerably versatile, on-a-dime talent come out in “Talk Shit,” which dares purist rap bloggers to well, you know…talk. Cool album, recently mastered from Cascine:

RxGibbs returns with his first full-length album and second release for Cascine.Contact is a sample-inflected journey past constellations and swirling stars. Described by many as ambient dub, the eight tracks on Contact are colorful and dream inducing. Hand drums, horns, breathy vocal clips and shivering melodies make up this subtly blissed-out slice of electronic music.

Following his celebrated Futures EP, Contact features guest appearances by Jason Kolb of Billow Observatory, Magnus Wahlström of Boat Club, and members of the band Auburn Lull, with which Ron plays guitar and bass.
