PS3 XMB Manager Plus v0.10 Released

We are finally happy to announce the "Official Release"

XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+) is a new XMB category based off of REBUG’s "Package Manager", which is a modded version of the official (debug/Jailbreak) "Install Package Files" XMB option.

This will replace the "Install Package Files" option or for REBUG CFW "Package Manager".

XMB Manager Plus allows the entire PS3 filesystem to be browsed and/or deleted (all file types supported), We have added functions to REBUG's
"Package Manager" and renamed it to "Package Manager Plus", it consists of all previous features plus it now includes new Homebrew Category that has
options to download a selection of popular PS3 homebrew packages. We have also added a new "Game Data Manager" that contains all games data type
tools, like saves, backups, etc. There are plenty more options also available in this new update, see the changelog below.

With the release of yesterdays PS3 Sofware update 4.10 it was discovered that Dropbox is hiding within the shadows of the new browser. If you are unaware of what dropbox it is an online storage sevice that allows you to drop files into it and it returns a link for other users to download. Let me know what you think of this topic. PS3 Cobra USB Firmware 5.0 & MMCM 4.01.00 Full Released

Added support to play isos from a PC using network connection. No more waste of time copying between PC and ps3, play directly from the files on your computer!

Requires to run the supplied ps3netsrv server application (it is inside mmCM 04.01.00 download) on the PC, a version for windows and linux is provided (mac users can use the windows version with wine
Note: when using wine, we recommend to run directly the command line ps3netsrv.exe and not the gui).

Currently the following items can be played from network:

PS3 isos
PSX cue+bin or isos
Blu-Ray isos
DVD isos

Currently the following items cannot be played from network:

PS3 games in JB directory format (planned for 5.1 release)
PSP isos (planned for 5.1 release)
PS2 isos (planned, but we cannot estimate the version)

Although Cobra doesn't restrict the isos from being loaded through wifi, wifi is too slow for most uses, we recommend to use a wired connection.

Optimized a bit the read of PS3 isos (15-20% gain in external disk, not noticeable in internal disk)
Added dynamic firmware version spoofer capabilities. You can set the spoof in mmCM settings. As Sony release new firmwares, the spoofer can be updated by updating mmCm, without need of updating Cobra USB fw. No system files are modified by the version spoofer, all take place in ram.

PS3 LV2 Loader Released

PSP Wololo Notes on VHBL

I did post a FAQ a few weeks ago, but people still seem to have questions. When will it be released? Will it allow to run PSP isos? Will it work with a demo like for the patapon 2 exploit? Does it support this or that homebrew? etc…

Let me try to answer some of these questions, with more up-to-date answers.

First of all, the easy ones: VHBL (that’s the super new cool name of HBL on the Vita, I’ll let you guess what the V means, I know, I’m super original) will not support loading PSP isos. Basically VHBL will have the same limitations and features as HBL on the PSP, and, last time I checked, running psp isos was not possible through HBL. The same HBL limitations apply to compatible homebrews. In a general way, user mode homebrews should work for the most part, while homebrews that require kernel access will not work. For now (but that could change), homebrews requiring network access might not work (or at least, the network part of them will not work). Like in the patapon exploit era, it is possible, depending on the success of VHBL, that we progressively increase compatibility if we (as a community) keep improving the HBL code in the weeks following the release. Oh, and I am talking about PSP homebrews, running in HBL within the PSP emulator. So, for now, don’t dream about a full speed N64 or psp2 emulator. What we’ll get are the PSP homebrews that you already know.

Second, the vulnerability we rely on to run VHBL is a vulnerability in a PSP full Game, not a Demo. This means you will have to buy that game on the PSN in order to run VHBL (just like in the good old days of GTA:LCS for the first eLoader on the PSP). This also means that as soon as we reveal the name of that game, Sony can probably remove it from the PSN and/or patch it.

This leads to the most asked question: when and how will this be released? Well, I have a basic idea on how the release will happen. Nothing spectacular but it should hopefully be enough to guarantee that people who are really motivated in getting their hands on HBL on their Vita will get it. I’m hoping that constantly reminding people that this doesn’t allow the to run any pirated content will attract the right people to this exploit, and not the 95% of pirates that define any console hacking scene these days

In the past weeks I’ve been polishing the release process, and I can’t predict the future, but hopefully it will go well.

Nevertheless, getting access to this exploit for you guys will be a matter of being at the right place, at the right time.

For now I’m thinking Sony’s reaction wil be to remove the game from the PSN within 24h of the public announcement. Worst case scenario, Sony is already aware of the vulnerability and have already patched the game. This is unfortunately not something I can test without getting any more guinea pigs… these guinea pigs will basically be you when the release happens, I can’t really do any better than that. Obviously, the release will not happen like your typical hack release (a dramatic article on every news site of the planet copying the hacker’s initial blog post). It will be, I expect, a bit more subtle than that.

Anyways, I added a page on this blog where the VHBL downloads will be available, so if you’re waiting for HBL on your Vita, just check that page (and our /talk forums) regularly for updates.

Look Ma, No Downgrade Dongle

In keeping with our Red Valentines theme this month... we release another red themed app. Tonight, in our second release we bring you a second handy app that continues our commitment to the removal or the need for ANY dongles. A simple app that should likely make it into everyone's PS3 tool set. An XMB application that places the PS3 into factory service mode. Now, You can now throw away that downgrade dongle! Also, as an added bonus we've included CEX and DEX versions of the pkg.

Psgrade was ported to all sorts of devices, even calculators ... none of those external devices are needed any longer! You may now re-purpose them!

Usage:
------
When you run the app it will beep once and reboot if successful. Three beeps indicates a failure, report the contents of factory.txt in this thread for help. (Factory.txt will save to the USB flash if you put on in the right most USB port of the PS3.) At this point you will come back up in Factory Service Mode (FSM). Place the Lv2Diag.self on the USB the Lv2diag.self will perform its intended purpose automatically. So be aware of that feature should you not be expecting the PS3 to boot back into the non-FSM XMB.

This app will not work on any of the "reDRM" firmwares, aka Cobra or TrueBlue CFW.

Install the appropriate pkg for your system; FactoryServiceMode.gnpdrm.pkg for CEX and FactoryServiceMode.pkg for DEX.
Run the app and listen for the beeps, you should enter FSM automatically.
Place the desired Lv2Diag.self files on the root of a USB flash drive, ensuring they are named Lv2diag.self. The one included with this release simply exits FSM. Do NOT use the RSOD Lv2Diag released earlier unless you have RSOD.
Place the USB Flash Drive in the right most USB port of the PS3.
Restart the PS3. When it boots up, you will be out of FSM.
Enjoy sticking it to the dongle makers in your own little way.

The app detects the firmware you are running on so it should work on all the firmwares supported by "one" previously. (3.15, 3.41, and 3.55. Basically, Ones that are lower than 3.56.) During creation of this tool, the open-source ps3toolchain, and a slightly modified make_self were utilized. All code is original and makes use of no previously released or copyrighted code, this Lv2diag.self is made 100% with the PSL1GHT SDK so it can be shared freely and without concern for breaking any laws in your country. So, "no sony code inside!"

FAQ:

Q: Can I use this with the RSOD fix self you released earlier?
A: You should only use the RSOD fix Lv2Diag.self to repair a RSOD PS3. Use the suplied Lv2diag.self packaged with this release to simply get out of service mode.

Q: I'm having problems... help!!!!?!?!?!?
A: Post the contents of the factory.txt, which is stored on the root of the USB flash drive where you put Lv2Diag.self, along with a detailed explanation and we will try to help you out. Without the contents of the factory.txt file... we will not be able to help.

Q: Why didn't you just name the release .self file Lv2diag.self and save us a step?
A: We intend to release more fun tools for you at some point, this just helps you keep them straight from the start.

Q: I get a 80010505 error in factory.txt on the USB drive sometimes. HELP!?!?!
A: We noticed this on one Phat CECHG system in testing. but could not replicate it on other PS3's and it only occured after the initial run from a power on of the PS3. In this case, every time we ran it a second time the application worked with out fail. Try again and post the factory.txt if the problem persists.

Q: Could you have made this just a little easier to use?
