In exploring these themes, a number of different musical/cultural ethoses will be referenced, including elements of indigenous musics from North Africa, India and Ireland.

Wilson has written a number of significant works for Schellhorn over a ten-year period, including the acclaimed monumental solo cycle Stations (2006–7, 75′) and the piano concerto Flags and Emblems (2012, 18′). Schellhorn has also premiered a number of Wilson’s other works, including most recently (January 2016) the piano concerto Mutazione (2003, 18′) with the Ulster Orchestra, which was later broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

The programme will also feature Robert Percy’s Chopsticks along with Colin Riley’s As the Tender Twilight Covers, which Schellhorn has recently recorded for nmc (due for release later this year).

Full details: http://www.brunel.ac.uk/services/brunelarts/concerts-and-performances/concerts-and-performances/lunchtime-concertsMatthew Schellhornnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138407222675741417.post-37642198587419373962016-11-09T13:02:00.000-08:002016-11-09T13:04:06.950-08:00Matthew Schellhorn and heraldryMatthew Schellhorn has been examining the archives of the College of Arms and considering the armorial bearings of The Worshipful Company of Musicians.

Read moreMatthew Schellhornnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138407222675741417.post-80348338260292710892016-10-01T12:03:00.002-07:002017-05-04T06:58:49.991-07:00Election to the Faculty of Music, University of CambridgeWith effect from 1st October 2016, Matthew Schellhorn has been elected to the Faculty of Music, University of Cambridge.

Matthew Schellhornnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138407222675741417.post-88210446443255223542016-09-03T12:22:00.001-07:002016-09-03T12:24:32.751-07:00New article on John Rastell for the Catholic HeraldMatthew Schellhorn's latest contribution to the Catholic Herald has been published today.

He explores St Thomas More's brother-in-law and his remarkable contribution to the history of Sacred Music.

Read the full article hereMatthew Schellhornnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138407222675741417.post-4526165691235516112016-06-26T09:59:00.000-07:002016-06-26T10:01:20.123-07:00Glowing review for Wigmore recitalFestive Sparkle
A concert to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of composer Joseph Horovitz, reviewed by MALCOLM MILLER
There was festive sparkle in the air at the climax of the Park Lane Group's Wigmore Hall concert on 13 June 2016 to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of composer Joseph Horovitz, with the resonant glow of soprano Susanna Fairbairn's resilient lyricism soaring above a rousing audience rendition of 'Happy Birthday' with the composer on the concert platform. The celebratory mood was apt following a superb recital as part of the PLG's own sixtieth anniversary in which Susanna Fairbairn, expertly partnered by Matthew Schellhorn, offered a welcome chance to appreciate a selection of Horovitz's music for solo voice in context; the quality of their performances augurs well for a recording by the artists, which one hopes may follow in the near future.Matthew Schellhornnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5138407222675741417.post-24138536364380553332016-06-04T07:38:00.008-07:002016-06-12T16:42:52.636-07:00Forthcoming Wigmore Hall recitalMatthew Schellhorn returns to the Wigmore Hall this month partnering award-winning soprano Susanna Fairbairn.

The recital, part of the Park Lane Group 2015/16 series, will include works by Debussy and Fauré and will also celebrate the 90th birthday of Joseph Horovitz who will be present.

Tickets are available from Wigmore Hall at https://wigmore-hall.org.uk/whats-on/the-monday-platform-201606131930

Full programme details:

Claude Debussy (1862–1918) †
Ariettes oubliées

Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) †
3 Mélodies Op. 7
No. 1 Après un rêve

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) *
Piano Sonata No. 3 in C major Op. 2 No. 3

Robert Schumann (1810–1856) *
Piano Sonata No. 2 in G minor Op. 22

Joseph Horovitz (b.1926) †
Lady Macbeth - a Scena
Zum 11.
