When my husband asked me where I wanted to celebrate my birthday, I replied "Mamas Fish House!" without any hesitation. I love it there! It is truly one of my favorite places to dine and relax on the island. I will let the pictures speak for themselves...

While strolling on the world-famous Kaanapali Beachwalk in Maui Hawaii, you just cant miss the cool and colorful surfboards that are stacked up right next to the palm trees... and if the surfs up when you visit the islands, be sure to add a surfing lessons to your trip itinerary, you wont regret it :)

Why I live in Hawaii

Living in Hawaii is truly a dream come true! My first recollection of day dreaming about Hawaii was at the age of eight when I overheard my Mom talking with a friend who was from there. My ears perked up when she said that she had been born and raised in a tiki hut surrounded by palm trees. Maybe she was just using a little sarcasm, but at the age of eight my imagination went wild! I can still remember the pictures that popped into my head at that moment. I wanted to get on a plane and go to Hawaii right then and there! From that day on, every time I saw a palm tree my mind raced back to those pictures. Then about ten years later, a neighborhood friend actually up and moved to Hawaii, and her sister later followed her. Before she left I remember saying to her; "What? You can actually live there?" She laughed and said "Yes of course you can, in fact why don't you check it out for yourself?" I was speechless, but started saving money towards my Hawaii trip immediately! I recall it costing $350 for a one-way ticket to Honolulu...(at the time I thought Honolulu WAS Hawaii). Shortly after my friend was on her way, I was left with the decision of going it alone (scary!) or finding someone else who had the same dream. My other friends all had different plans to pursue, so I decided to just continue working and saving money when I could.

A year later I met the man of my dreams and we were married a year after that. When my husband learned that I had spent all of my "Hawaii Savings" on my wedding dress, and his wedding ring, he promised me that one day we would go there on vacation. That was great to hear, but I secretly wanted to LIVE there and not just take a vacation! I just knew that I would love it so much that I wouldn't want to leave - sometimes we just know these things, don't we? As time passed, I learned that there were six 'main' islands in the Hawaiian chain; The Big Island (a.k.a. Hawaii), Maui (includes the islands of Molokai and Lanai), Oahu (where the city of Honolulu is), and Kauai. I remember wondering how I would ever find my neighbor friends that moved there... funny, but I had still been picturing Hawaii as one small island with just a few tiki huts and palm trees on it. :) But even still, I held onto my dream that one day I would live there - somewhere! Through the years that followed, my husband and my kids put up with all my talk of Hawaii and the crazy ways that I continued to save for it. Then one day it happened! I was invited to travel to Maui Hawaii for a 5 day trip with my younger brother who had enough frequent flyer miles (from his work) for the both of us! What a surprise and an answer to prayer! I couldn't believe my ears! I had waited over 30 years for this moment... unbelievable!

Maui turned out to be even more beautiful than I had imagined. In fact, I remember thinking that all the pictures I had seen just didn't do it justice! After this amazing trip, I was consumed with Hawaii all the more. Thankfully, I was able to stay connected with Hawaii by means of a new business venture. Then, to my surprise again, our wonderful children helped to send me and their dad to Maui for our wedding anniversary! I think my husband initially agreed to going just to appease me at first, but when we arrived he fell in love with it too... thank God! Not long after that we packed it up, moved to Maui, and never looked back... it's been our home ever since :)

The moral of the story is to put your trust in God and never give up on your dreams!

Turtle Beach

Green Sea Turtles love to bask on the warm sandy beaches of Hawaii. Seeing a turtle on the sand is a common sight at some remote beaches here on the island of Maui Hawaii, yet I am always still so amazed when I see one... I just had to take its picture and capture the moment to share!

Interesting Fact: They say that the Green Sea Turtle is not actually green externally, its name comes from the greenish hue of the turtle's fat which is only found in a layer between their inner organs and their shell... hmm, are "they" sure? because I definitely see some green on top of this one's shell :)

Maui Art Show is located in Hawaii on the beautiful island of Maui where every evening brings a unique sunset experience.

I took this shot while strolling down Front Street in Old Lahaina Town about a week ago, right after I watched them light the tiki torches... a regular nightly event that takes place on the beach in front of many of the ocean-front restaurants here on Maui.

This is just one of the many sunset photos that I have taken throughout the years here on this amazing island.
