Every day I see too many network marketers who lead into every relationship by presenting their MLM biz opportunity. Now I am fairly certain that if they talk to enough people (like hundreds of thousands) at some point the law of averages will kick in and they will get a few sign ups every so often. Unfortunately, they are not working in an efficient manner and it will take great quantities of prospects to make those averages profitable.

The real issue with presenting your network marketing business on the front end is the lack of a relationship. Maybe this example will help illustrate my point. When a marketer takes this biz first approach, it is like a man walking up to a woman he has never met before, dropping to his knee, pulling out a diamond ring and asking for her hand in marriage. As dramatic and memorable as his actions may be, the answer is probably going to be “no.” Now to be honest, there may be that one in a million interaction where the woman would actually say “yes.” Needless to say, I think you can understand that there are some foundational pieces missing from this interaction.

The same principle is true in your multi level marketing business. Before you have truly earned the right to present your mlm business opportunity, you need to lay a proper foundation. There are questions that need to be answered in the mind of your prospects. For starters, your prospect needs to get acquainted with you. They need a reason to listen to you in the first place. It is critical that you provide value to their lives, so that you earn the right to be heard. The more value you bring to the relationship, the greater weight will be put on any presentation you make.

Secondarily, you need to establish trust. Trust is built through ongoing interaction. The more you communicate, the more you are known. The more you are known, the more your character is revealed. As your prospects get to know you and your overall character, they will begin to develop a greater level of trust in you. When you present your business opportunity, it will be evaluated at a much deeper level, because the recommendation is coming from you, a trusted resource.

Finally, when relationships have been established, talk of your MLM business comes naturally. You are able to make reference to your own business through your interactions with your prospects. This is a much more natural way of presenting the opportunity, and it creates within your prospect the desire to obtain more information. If you have added tremendous value to their lives, it creates not only the desire to know more about the business, but a desire to work directly with you.

To successfully grow your MLM biz, avoid the temptation to lead with your opportunity and instead focus on relationship building.

If you have ever attended a child’s sporting event, you know that you can witness the good, the bad, or the ugly at any time. If you are attending a tournament, you have an ever better chance of witnessing the ugly. Sometimes the very ugly in behavior comes from players, coaches, and even other parents. Avoiding ugly behavior, particularly in front of children, is generally preferable, but witnessing it can be a learning experience.

Multilevel marketing certainly has its share of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Any of these traits can be found in the products, the people, and the companies involved. If you have been in the business for any length of time you can certainly think of examples that fall into any of these categories. So, how do you find the good and avoid the bad and the ugly?

The best way is to start by doing some research. Products, companies, and people that fall into the bad and ugly department often leave a trail of dissatisfied customers and former distributors. Since most people in multilevel marketing are pretty savvy electronically, they have no problem telling the world how bad a product, a company, or someone involved in multi-level marketing is by posting it all over the internet. You can also look for complaints on sites like RipOff Report (www.ripoffreport.com). You can also look up complaints that have been filed with the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Be sure you take into account that anyone can post information to some sites without any verification. Also realize that the incident may be an isolated incident. However, being listed on either of these sites indicates that more research is required. If you find a company, product or person listed multiple times or in multiple places, it is a pretty good indication that there is most likely a problem.

If you have not been in the business very long, or are looking to start in the business, you can also talk to others who have been multi-level marketing for a long time. The community of people who have been in the business for a long time is fairly small and most of them know the companies, products and major players to avoid. They have witnesses the bad and the ugly and learned their lesson. If you can, try to get the story from more than one source. The ugly can also be found in the form of grudges (founded and unfounded).

Avoiding bad and ugly products take a little more than just research. The products might be good right now, but you also need to look at future trends. How many other companies carry similar products now or will likely carry them in the near future? How do the prices and quality compare with what is available at a local store?

Doing a little research help you be sure that you are part of the good and not part of the bad and/or ugly.

In the world of SEO, there are two parties at war with each other – SEO White Hatters, aka “The Good Guys”, and the Black Hatters, aka “The Bad Guys”. Here’s what you need to know about SEO spam.

Whilst most of these techniques are simply ineffective (due to the search engines catching onto them as they pop up), even those that do work will only provide short-term results until the search engines catch you. It is essential that you are aware of and can easily spot bad practices so that you don’t get scammed into the next “wonder product” or service you see (and there are hundreds of these).

The following are some of the common “Black Hat” SEO techniques…

Link Farms – Link farms are a whole bunch of websites set up with one job in mind – to link to other websites and create backlinks. They have minimal or zero useable content and simply link out to other sites. You can usually purchase links from these farms (so as to increase your number of backlinks) for a price, but this is simply not worth it. As soon as the search engines recognise the site as link farm, they ignore all the links. In fact, you could get penalized for using such a service and ruin all you legitimate SEO efforts.

When I was new to SEO, I bought 1000 backlinks from one of these link farms and anticipated huge results. Google Webmasters only picked up about 30 of them (out of a thousand!) and within a month or two they were lost (or removed). I was just lucky that I didn’t get banned!

Cross Linking – Similar to link farms, this is the practice of linking between a whole lot of websites that you own. Apart from being ineffective, the cost of this sort of practice is simply a waste of money (considering that you can easily get links from writing articles, etc).

Cloaking – Cloaking essentially involves having two different pages – one that your visitors see and one that the search engines see. This allows you to create a heavily optimized page for the search engines, and a very “pretty” page for users. This practice is strongly frowned upon by search engines and will in most cases get your site banned within a few months.

Duplicate Content – Whether it the same content placed on different pages within your website, or content copied from another site – the search engines don’t like this for one reason – there’s no value to the visitor. This re-emphasizes the importance of ensuring that your website has quality, original content. Should you need to use content from another site, be sure to link back to them for copyright purposes.

Keyword & Tag Stuffing – This involves stuffing your title, meta and header tags with keywords unnaturally. Remember that SEO is all about keeping a balance between search engine readability and human readability. A header stuffed with keywords doesn’t make much sense to either party!

Hidden Text – In order to create keyword rich content on pages, some sly optimizers will insert a whole lot of keyword rich text at the bottom of the page, which is the same colour at the background – thus making it invisible to humans but visible to search engines. This used to work quite well, until the search engines caught on… Don’t waste your time trying this.

Link Pages/Exchanges – Often you will find websites with “Link Pages” or “Resource Pages”. They will use this page to exchange links with other sites (thus increasing backlinks). Although this isn’t particularly frowned upon by search engines, it doesn’t carry very much weight, if any at all. They simply see it for what it is and ignore the links thereon. One-way, relevant links is what SEO is all about!

Excessive Internal Linking – Using internal links to make your website easy to navigate is good practice. Using internal links excessively simply for the sake of creating links is not. Create internal links where you feel that they would make your site more user-friendly – don’t overdo it.

Spamblogs – These are machine generated blogs (or sometimes user created) that exist purely to push keyword rich content onto a blog and draw search engine rankings. If you are going to use a blog on your website (which I recommend you do), write quality content which will draw real visitors, not just search engines. A good blog can generate a huge amount of trust for you or your company and make the sales process infinitely easier.

Wiki Spam – Due to the fact that anyone can edit the pages on a Wiki, like www.Wikipedia.com, sly optimizers used to insert their own links on relevant Wikipedia pages to get ranked well. This is now a fruitless effort for two reasons:

1.These links are usually removed by other users before you can blink

2.These links have what a called “nofollow” tags – which means that even if Google saw the link in time, it would disregard it in any case.

There are countless other “Black Hat” SEO methods available, with new ones developing every day. The bottom line is this – if you want long term SEO success, you have to do things the right way.

Understandably, legitimate SEO takes time and can be frustrating, but it’s all worth it in the long term. Keep in mind that black hat requires time and effort, all of which will be wasted as soon as Google figures it out…

You should be aware of the CAN-SPAM Act that came into effect in January 2004. The law’s main provisions ban false or misleading information in the header and subject lines. You must provide an opt-out method and you must honor unsubscribe requests. If you are sending commercial email it must be identified as an advertisement or solicitation and it must include your actual postal address.

Legislation is being reviewed continually and provisions tightened as people are objecting to the spam invasion which in 2007 was 90% of all email reaching corporate servers. You want to avoid any appearance of being spam as it becomes increasingly unpopular. 40% of US and UK internet users say they do not open email marketing messages because they consider them to be spam. And increasingly, internet users are using the Report Spam button instead of going to the trouble of using the Unsubscribe function, especially as many companies continue to send messages to people who have opted out.

So once you have spent time and energy getting your message ready to send, you will want to do what you can to ensure that it is not going to be blocked by a spam filter. Unfortunately the spam filters cannot always distinguish between spam and legitimate emails.

Keep your emails and newsletters as simple and professional as possible. Excessive use of large fonts, different colors, too many images and not enough text will get your emails flagged as spam. There are many words that act as spam triggers – sex, money, free – and you will want to avoid these in your text as well as your subject line. The best way to check that your emails are not being blocked is to test them by having different email accounts with known spam blockers. Send your emails and newsletters to a gmail or hotmail account and if it ends up in the junk mailbox, you’ll know you have some changes to make.

Web hosts may be using spam filtering software called SpamAssassin . This software can be run by individual users on their own mailbox and it integrates with several mail programs. It sends a report on the offending email and allows you to make necessary adjustments if you have used words or formatting you should not have, or included too many images.

You might consider this too time-consuming but open rates have been to increase dramatically by learning to avoid spam filters. And your list increases dramatically also, which is the object of the whole exercise.

Ok so I am not supposed to write something like this while I am in the middle of a pre-launch …. right? I mean who would be dumb enough to do that… well who also would give away there best tips to sell something before they try to sell you something… that would be me too

So anyway I recently got a email asking me what it takes to get me to promote someone’s product.

I would like to divide this up into 2 parts. The first which is something I wrote about in my newsletter a couple weeks back. Its all the criteria I personally look at before promoting something to my email list & Blog and the rules go something like this:

$$$ Money $$$ – First and foremost lets talk about the elephant in the room. If you purchase something through my link I get paid for it. But while this might seem to be the biggest motivator its about 3rd or 4th in line behind the following.

Met In Person – Every person’s product I promote I have met in person and have sized them up. I also have asked around about them and made sure they are the real deal.

No Risk – This is by far the biggest thing for me. I will not recommend anything that does not come with minimum 30 day 100% NO QUESTIONS ASKED refund policy. The bottom line is the product either works for you or it doesn’t. and if it doesn’t I want you to get your money back. PERIOD.

Evaluation Copy – I always personally review the product before recommending it. Sometimes the full product is not available so I have to rely on other factors more.

Purchasing It Myself – I will not recommend anything to anyone that I am not purchasing myself. In the last 6 months I have purchased over $14,000.00 in info products. I have only gotten a refund one of them and it was because the person noticed I purchased it and refunded my money and gave me a free account.

Lets look at the last thing big thing I promoted – Jeff Walkers Product Launch Formula. I ended up ranking #10 over all on his JV list in sales. Awesome! I take home something like 40k in profit, but what is even cooler is hearing from all of you folks who purchased it that can’t stop raving about it.

And the list goes on and on…

The one big thing I have learned over the years is if you sell things that actually give people value then they are more likely to buy from you in the future. Sell people crap and they are gone.

So those are my rules…. but lets say your getting ready to launch a product and are looking to get affiliates for that product and of course… you want the top affiliates. Then I would have some different advice for you.

There are a couple paths you can go and depending on your budget and experience its probably clear what path you should take:

1) Guarantee a earnings per click. Most guys get $5-$10 per click. I know that seems high but its on par with what they make for a affiliate product. Since you have no history its going to be tough to get affiliates on board cause they have to put all their trust that you know what you are doing… again since you have no history nothing makes you different then the 30 other people who approach them a day to pitch their stuff. So you back it up and now they listen. I did this with my first launch and it worked out really well. Also when people see the biggest guys promoting it they want to get on board.

2) Get a well know person to run your launch.. Amish Shaw (magic bullet) did this getting Frank Kern to run his magic bullet launch and he crushed it. You can save yourself a ton of headache by getting a certified product launch manager to run your stuff. Generally they take 20% of the gross and require an up front deposit (like 50k) that goes against their pay. What your paying for with these guys is experience and their Rolodex.

3) Go with it yourself. Like I said before your first launch is really your learning experience more then anything. Just like anything else its going to take you a while to get it down. The cool thing though is you will build a good sized email list to now promote other peoples stuff. That’s where my list came from and it only took me 2 launches to get a list decent enough size to be in the top 10 on BIG launch leader boards. Here is another interesting fact. Ive made over $250,000 in profit promoting other people’s products (from email alone) from the original 20,000 ShoeMoney system 1.0 lead list. When I launched people told me that the money was in the lead list because basically what your doing is scraping other peoples lists getting the best, most active leads they have. They also told me those leads would be worth about $10 per lead per year on average depending on how hard you promote other peoples stuff.

So thats all the advice I have for those looking to get partners to push your stuff…. hopefully it helps
