]]> 0 maxblog <![CDATA[3 Main Blog Types]]> http://maxblogmoney.com/?p=855 2011-08-05T18:17:16Z 2010-07-30T18:12:20Z Two questions I am asked on a  frequent basis are “What type of blogs are there?” and “What type of blog is right for me?“  I will explain three main blog types and use the perfect metaphor everyone can relate to.  This article will better explain the blog types and show you how to approach each.  The metaphor I am using compares blog types to relationships; the similarities are striking!

Blog Type 1:  Branding Yourself

The first blog type we will discuss is branding yourself.  ustry.  Branding-your-self blogs serve as a solid foundation and the perfect starting point for anyone who wants  to make money online.  The reason is, it’s hard to “mess-up” a blog about yourself.  Blog about any and everything, add your own personal touch attract your target audience.  When you begin online, you want to establish yourself before jumping head first into a niche.  It’s about getting your feet wet, understanding your capabilities and limits.

So where’s the comparison?  I compare branding-yourself-blogs to being single.  You are learning about yourself and your audience, you can do anything you want without any real consequence.  You do, however, have to invest time into these blogs to keep them “groomed” and “interesting” for any reader who stumbles upon it…

Blog Type 2:  Quick Niche Blogs

Have you ever seen the blogs that are about a very specific topic, littered with Google Adsense and niche related affiliate offers, etc?  These are quick-niche-blogs.  Now take notice, I underlined quick, because there are niche blog that do not fall into this category (e.g. maxblogmoney.com). Quick-niche-blogs are built for a very specific reasons, usually to capitalize on an upcoming trend or new product launches.  The research behind these types of blogs is very extensive, while the content on them is quite limited.  In addition, quick-niche-blogs are short lived, usually dying out once the craze the blog targets dies away.  An example of a quick-niche-blog would be building a blog around the kid craze Silly Bandz within the first month of their heightened popularity.  You would optimize the blog for all keywords associated with Silly Bandz, become an Amazon affiliate to sell them, and cover your site in Google adsense in order to profit in every possible way from the hot trend.  In time you know the fad will go away or maybe it won’t. Either way,   quick-niche-blogs are not built for  longevity, but instead big profits in a little amount of time.

I compare quick-niche-blogs to a (bare with me) one-night-stand.  Think about it, the anticipation, the build up, all the work, for a short lived adventure.  Quick-niche-blogs take time and effort in the beginning for a short claim to fame, to eventually die out and become forgotten.

Blog Type 3:  Real Niche Blogs, Authority Blogs

To build a successful authority blog in a specific niche, takes lots of time, effort, dedication, and more time.  It’s all about building helpful content and lot’s of it.  It can take years for blogs to become authorities and their success is a direct result of the knowledge and skill of the blog owner. Knowledge and skill, in that the content is very helpful, people read and decide your blog will be a main source when trying to find answers and grow ideas.  In order to create such blogs, it takes massive amounts of research and lots of creativity.  Your content has to be unique and fresh to whatever niche you are serving.  Base your blog around quality and quantity to become an authority blogger.

I am sure you have guessed, authority blogs can be equated to a marriage.  The time and effort that goes into making each successful is relentless.  On a brighter note, the gratification through the success of each is very rewarding.

Blog Marketing systems can be defined as a system in which you market products, gains leads, and promote businesses/services using nothing but a blog.  There are many forms in which a blog marketing system can be found.  The most common, I am sure you have seen is a similar set up to this very site.  Tons of content with opt-in form options, affiliate banners, and so forth.  The other, very few people take advantage of, and that is using a blog for many aspects of their business.  For example, my partner and I use blog marketing systems for every aspect of our business including product promotions, product launches, branding, and even membership sites and have had great success doing it.

The blog marketing system I want to expand on and talk to you about is the one Max Blog Money developed which is perfect for gaining leads, making sales, and branding business all at the same time.  The following story will put it all in perspective for you…

About one year ago Patrick (my partner) and I decided to really concentrate on building an Internet business.  For the previous three years, we built blogs and expanded our knowledge on the website platforms.  Since blogs were what we knew best it was the perfect opportunity to get our foot in the Internet marketing door and start teaching people.

We developed a training program called Max Blog Money Pro Blog Edition which teaches you how to build a blog just like this one, here at maxblogmoney.com. Incorporate the right optimization techniques, right marketing techniques, and right content and you have yourself a solid blog to grow any business on.  So, this was the product, and a good one at that.  Then problems arose; there were way too many similar products out there and second we didn’t have ANY money to actually launch the product.

Now we are left with two problems we needed to confront: 1) Differentiating our product.  2) Actually launching it.  Our brains started ticking and after a week or so of contemplation, eureka!  What if we could launch our product through what we knew best, a blog.  Furthermore,to differentiate our product, what if we teach people the exact system we use to launch (if it works of course).  We had a game plan, we would launch the training course, Max Blog Money Pro Blog Edition, through a blog platform, record the stats and then teach people how to do the same with any product/service imaginable. The process went like this:

  1. Ok, so launching the product, how did we go about it?  Well we started with the basic blog platform and went from there.  Every successful product launch needs to first filter out interested prospects from the wishy-washy (don’t know what they want) prospects, and it’s accomplished through a squeeze page.  That was the beginning, our home page would be a squeeze page (without side bars or any blog qualities) so it looked like a real squeeze page.
  2. Next, once the prospects fill out name and email, to try and capitalize on sales right away, there was a one time offer page.  We gave interested prospects the opportunity to buy MBM Pro Blog Edition at a one-time-discount of $27.  It was a real OTO page too, once you left you could not go back (thanks to some nifty code we came up with).
  3. Once they filtered through the OTO page we would send them to the actual blog with information about ourselves our business.

This did three things at one time for us: 1)Gained subscribers, 2) Made sales, 3) Branded our business.  Now it sounds simple, and once it is all together it is, but building it the right way is very complicated if you do not have the right direction.  Needless to say, we networked and picked up 2 other JV’s to help us launch.  The product ended up bringing in over 700 subscribers, $1,406.05, and tons of followers of our business in 8 days of promotion.  Very successful for our first product launch seeing it was done through a “homemade” marketing system using absolutely nothing but a blog!

Whenever there is a new product, new program, or new opportunity, hundreds of people are setting up targeted blogs all over the world in order to capitalize on the new and upcoming trends. I know because I am one of those people and do daily research, not only on upcoming trends, but on increasing competition for a particular niche as well. It is essential to know what your competitors are doing so you can go the extra step to beat them out for that keyword. I know, it sounds like a ferocious battle and it is… Let me give you some pointers to win it.

Blogs are user-friendly, and extremely dangerous (in a good way). A correctly optimized blog can destroy search engine rankings for many different keywords simultaneously. Content can be visible to readers in a matter of hours allowing your information, opportunities, and orbusinesses/services to be seen virtually in real time. All of these factors are making blogs the website platform of choice for marketers worldwide.

So how do we profit from blogging? There are two main ways to profit from blogging, niche blogging and informative blogging. Niche blogging is based around a particular niche, created for very specific long-tail keywords. Niche blogs are usually created to capitalize quickly on upcoming trends, or capitalize on a “forgotten” niche with very little competition, high search volume, and income opportunity.

An example of capitalizing on an upcoming trend with a niche blog would be creating a blog centered around watching FIFA World Cup games live on the computer. You would purchase a keyword specific domain (FIFATVONLINE.COM) and optimize with specific content centered around a 4-5 main keywords. All of this would be done at least 2 months in advance of the maturation of the trend in order to have solid content and promotions in place to climb search engine rankings.

As far as the “forgotten niche.” These are niche blogs built on a VERY SPECIFIC product or service that has little competition but tons of searches. For example, “Weber 7416 Rapid Fire Chimney Starter” gets thousands of searches per month, especially when summer approaches. You would create a blog with a domain name that has specific keywords in it and again add relevant content to the niche you are serving.

As for what I like to call “informative” blogs, they take a lot of time, work, and dedication. They are optimized for broader keywords and usually receive traffic from search engines for numerous keywords, but take several months and even years to be successful. An example of these types of blogs would be problogger.net which gets several thousands of visitors a day on several different topics. If you have a subject you know a lot about, very passionate about, and you have the time to dedicate to the cause, a blog of more substance and information is the way to go.

My suggestion is to have one particular blog that is your main concentration and play with the niche blogs on the side. As your main blog is growing content, searches,and visitors, you can be learning, understanding, and even earning from smaller niche blogs.

Where do I begin to make money online? A question that I am sure has crossed everyone’s mind.  Even those who aren’t looking to start an online business.  For the majority, it’s hard to fathom the idea of creating a business on the computer and receiving a full-time income (or more) directly deposited into a bank account every month.   Some strain brains trying to crack the Internet wealth code and give up, only to move on with their demanding, full-time jobs they wish they never started.  Others, like you and I, are making it a priority to go far beyond what is expected and are determined to reach life-long goals and dreams.  My goal through this article is to limit the brain straining and give you a clear and concise direction to “making it” online.

1. Establish your ideas and your goals…

Before you can go anywhere in this business, you have to know where you want to go.  Write down every idea you have to make money online.  Then write down what you want from making money online, whether it be as simple as extra time with your family, or as lavish as a 300 foot yacht.  Create a clear vision of what you want to get out of making money on the Internet and it will help in the process of figuring out exactly what is you need to do.  This is going to be a very vague brainstorm of course, but it will set direction and lay somewhat of a path to follow.  Depending on what you want will determine how you will go about achieving your goals.  Later on, we will discuss the nuts and bolts of the process.  Let’s get you well on your way to making money on the Internet….

2.  It’s not what you know, it’s who you know…

You could have the best ideas, the best products, and the best services, but if you don’t network, what you know will always be just that – what you know.  Make a real effort to contact people with similar ideas and goals as you and share any and every development you have.  You never know when someone else out there is looking for the piece you hold to complete a million dollar idea. Networking will also limit set-backs, open the doors to allow your ideas come to life, and save you valuable time.

3. Yes, you are going to have to do work…

Writing down our ideas and dreams, then connecting the dots does nothing but show us direction; and only a few of us will bring a million dollar idea to life through networking alone.  Our other option is to “hit the pavement” so to speak, but it’s more fun than you are use to.  I am talking about actually building the parts you need to bring your ideas to a tangible and profitable state.  Whether it be building an entire website, generating targeted traffic, capturing leads, or learning how to sell, it all can be done simply and effectively with the right tools.

the online/Internet marketing aspect because that’s what it is

start a business, a real option when it comes to marketing and
promoting their business, products, and/or services.   We do have
leeway as far as the selling points and we will incorporate the
benefits our system has to offer from a business marketing system
standpoint.  We would love to have you on board and are willing to

I understand that, logistically, your system would work for any kind of online marketing. Under the hood it’s all the same engine. I get that. But perception is everything, and everything about your site from the domain name to the graphics create the perception of a make money online product, which most people think are scams.

My audience will not go for your product the way it’s currently packaged & presented. If I recommended it, I would lose their trust and get a lot of backlash, so I just can’t do that. Plus, you wouldn’t get many sales through me.
There is no reason why you can’t sell the same thing two different ways with two different domains (other than it’s extra work for you). That way you can appeal differently to different audiences, and take different marketing approaches for different segments. If you wanted to do a more “third tribe” style of packaging & presentation that focused on the business system benefits over making money, I could get behind that. Not only that, but you’d open up a new branch of JVs, too. I can’t be the only one who has these reservations.

This exact conversation sparked my “awakening” and I hope you can see why.  Michael, had just told us, our (Maxblogmoney’s) approach will not work for the majority.  Even though our product is valuable, informative, and true, it would not survive in most markets because of its connotation (the vibe it gives off).  No good huh?  Actually it is very good, and I want to give Michael HUGE kudos  for his input, for it has opened my eyes to the harsh, but true reality we need to face if we want to survive in the Internet Marketing world…  For most people, making money online is a fantasy.  Even though it is possible and easier than you may think, societies perception has made it hard for it to be that easy.  As marketers, we need to adhere to these unwritten laws and accompany any and every audience the Internet sends our way.  Do not get caught up in the idea of making tons of money online.  Get caught up in the idea of  building a true business to help you, and others, reach your goals and your dreams.  The results can only be positive…
