How is your costume planning coming along? I know that I am very stressed out! I am trying to decide between Bro-bot 3000, Zombie Borat, and Sexy Richard Heene. What do you think? Right now I am leaning heavily towards doing none of them and just putting a plastic bag over my face. We’ll see! Maybe I’ll dress as the year 2012 to remind everyone we have exactly 38 months left on this planet. Anyway, two huge things this week:

1. On Wednesday night Gabe Liedman, Jenny Slate and I have an especially spectacular Big Terrific for you all. It’s almost too famous? We’ve got some special Halloween shenanigans planned (poisoned candy, knives, etc) as well as comedy appearances from Aziz Ansari (Parks and Recreation, Funny People), Natasha Leggero (Tonight Show), Joe Mande (Best Week Ever), John Mulaney (Conan O’Brien, writer for Saturday Night Live), Andrea Rosen (Stella, Flight of the Conchords) and Reggie Watts (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon). Are you kidding me? That is so crazy fun. Be there at 8pm at Cameo Gallery, located at 93 North 6th Street between Berry & Wythe in Williamsburg. It’s free. The after-party will be something special too.

2. What is funnier or more rocking than a museum? Literally nothing. I am very proud to be emceeing It Came From Brooklyn at the Guggenheim on Friday night, part of a series of events that celebrate the museum’s 50th anniversary by “showcasing Brooklyn’s emerging and established talents in the fields of music and literature.” Because I am so good at music AND literature. It’s more or less what I’m known for. But it’s going to be really awesome, and features big long concert-length sets from Yeasayer and Tanlines. Right? What a party. Come hang out and have so much fun. It’s also a good opportunity to find out what happens to laughs when a comedian tells jokes in a room with a 500 foot tall ceiling. Buy tickets here!

the birthday of Ray Charles, Julio Iglesias, and one of the singers
from O-Town. What a legendary trio. Maybe instead of coming to Big
Terrific you should stay home and pray.

Hi friends!

Usually this is where I attempt some sort of humorous and topical introductory paragraph, but I am sort of under the weather and I just don’t know if I have it in me. I tried! I really did. But everything has been really falling flat. “Hey Helsinki, I’m really proud of you and I’m gonna let you be Finnish, but Oslo is one of the best Scandanavian cities of all time.” Ugh. Sorry everybody. But don’t worry! This email is still filled with great news.

1. Big Terrific tonight! Gabe & Jenny and me have a crazy good lineup and super fun times planned. Joe Mande, Chelsea Peretti, Team Submarine and Jordan Rubin are bringing Lots of Love.  Tonight at 8pm at Cameo (93 North 6th St in Williamsburg)

2. If you love Big Terrific but miss when it was on Thursdays, we can meet you halfway this week. If you’re in Manhattan, Gabe Liedman’s performing his insanely funny one man show “No Answers” at 8pm at the UCB Theater (tickets here). If you are in Brooklyn, I’m premiering a new video at the opening night of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival at the Bell House, alongside Tim & Eric, Kristen Schaal, Jon Benjamin and other funny folks (tickets). And if you are anywhere that is near a TV, be sure to watch or tape the season premiere of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update Thursdays, a TV show Jenny Slate is now working on (NBC at 8pm).

3. Saturday night I’m hosting “I’ll Be Famous in 5 Years (or a Copywriter / Audience Coordinator)” also as part of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Fest at the Bell House at 6:00pm. It features a number of amazing verge-y comedians such as Hannibal Buress, Kumail Nanjiani, Patrick Borelli and Brent Sullivan. Plus it’s 18+ which is cool if you are just starting college. 4. In food news, I got very drunk at Momofuku Ssam and wrote about it for the AV Club NY. Also, Tom Collichio wrote in the comments of my last Top Chef recap that I sort of hurt his feelings.

Woah, get ready. I have some huge news! As you know, one of my lovely Big Terrific co-hosts Jenny Slate has been absent as of late doing “showbiz” stuff, and a lot of you have been all “more like no-biz!!” Well first, stop saying that, and also, it’s paid off! She is the newest cast member on Saturday Night Live, which is a long running television show that you have heard of. Won’t that be amazing? She is going to be their go-to person for Gloria Estefan impressions. Also, she is going to be their go-to person for everything because she is the best, we love her so much, are so very proud, and cannot think of anyone who would be better on that show. It’s really just perfect. Like, we were all surprised to get the news but also we totally weren’t, you know? That’s how great she’ll be.

Jenny will be back at Big T soon to tell lots of showbiz stories about what Megan Fox smells like and how Ted Danson always has mints handy or whatever. Come this Wednesday and celebrate with Gabe and me, before all of us are too famous.

Wednesday night is Big Terrific time, duh, and it seems pretty magical that this year it falls on Bill Clinton’s birthday. He is so good at the saxophone! And Jennifer Flowers? He knows how to pick ‘em. What a pretty name.

(Instead of “magical,” I first wrote down “serendipitous,” but changed it because it seems like kind of a silly word. How do you guys feel about that? Well, let me know.)

This weather! It is getting crazy out there. This morning I saw a guy actually fry an egg on a horse trying to give a dog a bath. Huh? I told you. Things are literally crazy. But seriously, last night got so humid I had to turn my air conditioning unit to a high setting and then sleep soundly in a 68 degree bedroom for seven and a half hours. Only in New York! Classic Big Apple Story!

According to a report from Professor Science University, jokes and alcohol are the best way to stay cool. You can’t argue with data! I was up on a farm this past weekend and it was so nice and I saw a deer and a peacock and baby chickens and a blue heron and cooked some lamb from a sheep I’d MET, and now I am in Midtown trying to figure out which sushi place near me has the best lunch special. Crazy. Life is funny sometimes, and when I say “funny” I mean “not that funny at all and actually pretty banal.” You know?
