Was ich über die Firma Semco lese scheint ein wenig verrückt, offensichtlich funktioniert es aber. Wenn man die Mitarbeiter wie Erwachsene behandelt, dann verhalten sie sich auch so. Kontrolle, im speziellen in Form von Zeit, ist nicht notwendig, weil sich die Teams selbst kontrollieren. Denn:

Entgegen allem, was man aktuell zu glauben scheint, machen Druck und Stress Menschen nicht produktiv, sondern ganz einfach nur kaputt….

Im aktuellen Pferdefleisch-Skandal stört es mich gar nicht so, dass Pferde an sich gegessen werden. In anderen Ländern ist das ganz normal, auch Hund oder Insekten stehen dort am normalen Speiseplan. Dort kommen einem wahrscheinlich Hühnerherzen, Blunzn oder Beuschel geschmacklos vor. Oder die Inder lehnen je nach Glaubensrichtung entweder Kühe als heilig oder Schweine als unrein ab. Wie gesagt, das ist nicht das Problem.

Das wahre Problem liegt darin wie wir Konsumenten von der Nahrungsmittel”industrie” für dumm verkauft werden. Da werden Waren umdeklariert, weil irgendjemand das große Geld sieht. Ich bin mir auch sicher da wird Bio-Ware gespritzt, weil sie dann mehr Ertrag bietet, auch finanzieller Natur. Im Winter gibt es Erdbeeren aus wer-weiß-wo, brauchen wir die wirklich?

Klar, Angebot und Nachfrage. Nur wenn es kein Angebot an nicht-saisonalem Obst gibt, dann werden die Kunden auch nicht nachfragen, und ist es wirklich ethisch hochgezüchtetes, gespritztes Obst quer über den Globus zu schiffen?
Früher war das kein Problem, da war es ganz klar, dass es im Winter gewisses Obst nicht gibt und man gegebenenfalls etwas einlagern muss. Dieses Wissen scheint aber verschwunden zu sein?

Und wenn das Fertiggericht günstiger ist als selber-kochen (da ist der Zeitaufwand für das Kochen noch gar nicht mit eingerechnet!), dann muss einem klar sein, dass die Qualität nicht besonders sein kann. Ob es sich auf lange Zeit rechnet und es nicht in einigen Jahren oder vielleicht auch Jahrzehnten aufgrund von Antibiotika im Fleisch, Spritzmitteln am Salat oder Gen-modifiziertem Mais zu “plötzlichen” Krankheiten kommt kann leider noch niemand sagen. Und auch in Zukunft wird die Industrie wahrscheinlich dafür sorgen, dass die Verbindung zwischen dem was wir essen und wie wir uns fühlen nicht bekannt wird…

Insofern finde ich den Pferdefleisch-Skandal gar nicht so schlecht, weil es hoffentlich viele Menschen zum Nachdenken anregt…

…ob Massentierhaltung ethisch vertretbar ist
…ob man wirklich das ganze Jahr über Tomaten benötigt
…ob billig auf lange Sicht noch immer geil ist

Die Evolution des Brotes

Ich bin ja jetzt auch schon in einem Alter wo ich sagen kann “Früher war’s besser”.

Zum Beispiel das Brot.

Was einem heutzutage in diversen Wiener Großbäckereifilialen als “Brot” verkauft wird ist ja kaum zu essen. Diese Backmischungen sind schon am nächsten Tag nicht mehr genießbar, falls überhaupt, und haben mit dem Brot das ich aus meiner Kindheit kenne nicht wirklich etwas zu tun.

Insofern also nicht wirklich eine Evolution, sondern ein sehr großer Rückschritt hin zu billigem Brot, welches jeden Tag gekauft werden muss, weil es sonst trocken wie Stroh ist.

Aber es gibt zum Glück auch Ausnahmen – z.B. den Joseph in der Naglergasse im 1. Bezirk. Dort bekommt man noch “echtes” Brot, welches auch nach einer Woche zu Hause noch frischer und besser schmeckt als die Backteigmischungen der Konkurrenz. Das selbe gilt auch für die Semmeln und Mohnweckerl. Aber: wer die probiert hat will nichts anderes mehr. Insofern: Vorsicht, großer Suchtfaktor!

This happens quite often since the upgrade to iOS6 – the new maps application does simply not find locations where I know they exist… and have been found before.

While I understand the reason for moving away from Google, this is not very smart, Apple!

Brazil 13 team profile

Great summary of one month in Brazil:

This professional and cultural exchange was truly a once in a lifetime experience, where new friendships were formed, perspectives and perceptions shifted, social collaboration took place through community development, and personal and professional growth resulted. We immersed ourselves in the culture, learned common Portuguese phrases, sampled local cuisine, learned to ‘go with the flow,’ and became Brasileiros at heart. The relationships developed with client partners and the camaraderie built among members of the Brasil 13 team will last a lifetime.

Some of our most memorable moments include exploring Minas Gerais – weekend excursions to Ouro Preto and Inhotim, surprise birthday dinner party, Thursday samba nights, kilo lunches, churrascaria dinners, playing capoeira, sampling various pastéis, Timeline exercises with Bruno, nights out in Savassi, and weeknight bonding sessions by the pool.

Yesterday the #ibmcsc brazil 13 team had the final debrief meeting and it reminded me of the fact that I am already back for a month.

Time passed quickly and I think I am back at my “normal” routine.
Unfortunately.
The positive energy of Brazil, 15 new friends and all the experiences fades slowly, and the meeting was a great chance to refresh it by exchanging experiences of “coming back to the pre-CSC life”.

The following advice helped me a bit when I came back to Vienna:

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

And I have to smile a lot these days, as I am sorting the over 7000 pictures we took… :)

I think we are very good at staying in touch using a private Facebook group and regular chats (and sometimes there are even birthday parties!), but we still miss Brazil and being together as a group. Nevertheless I am thankful for being part of the experience, and I am looking forward to the 2013 reunion, where we will meet up in Amsterdam and have a good time together.
