Yup, before returning fully I'm leaving again. Today heading out to Ludington State Park. They have new hike/bike in sites. Good times. Whelp, later.

Off the Grid

This week - starting tomorrow (Monday) - I'll be off the grid. Since I recently found out that I have the summer off I told camp that they could call me if they needed help. Well, they do and they did. So for the next six days I'll be working long hours, running around, camping out, getting dirty, hanging out with kids, helping out the counselors, possibly being woken up at night to take care of a sick kid, etc. And I'll be without access to the internet, something that's been increasingly difficult to be away from.
So, just wanted to let anyone who checks this where I've gone.

I've just seen the most amazing thing! I don't want to blow it so I won't tell you what's so amazing but Tuesday on The PAN (yeah, I'm a little behind on watching feeds) they showed a clip of this incredible bird and its call being narrated by David Attenborough. I thought parts of it were fake it was so astonishing.

For those of you who don't have the time, attention span, or desire to watch the whole episode (although I don't know who wouldn't) :) the Attenborough clip starts at about 2/3 of the way through the show. Seriously, this is something you've got to watch.

We Are the Media Challenge 1: Half Second Clips

During Vloggercon I'd been living without music (except karaoke!). When I got home I spent the next few commutes catching up on my favorite stuff. I was gonna make a clip show with this anyway, now the clips are just a bit shorter. :) Only used one of the music clips but if you want to know what else I listened to just ask! I LOVE talking about music. :)

This is the first footage I took, ever.

I Was bored when Becca, my cousin, best friend, traveling companion, went ahead on the trail and I decided to pick up my camera. Discovered the video function. And the rest is history. I hadn't even thought about vlogging at that point.

Didn't do anything fancy, just shot what I was thinking about so I decided not to do anything fancy with it. Show it how it is.

Recently among a lot of vloggers there's been a conversation about sexism. People have made videos portraying all sorts of viewpoints. Some have said that the issue needs to be ignored, others have been so enraged that they feel they haven't explained themselves well. Ebb and Flow put together this video. It resonates completely with the way I've been feeling about all that's been going on and sexism in general. Thanks Jen and Kent!

This is a really awesome contraption that was built by Nick Zammuto from The Books. Behind the wood are two speakers, when the sound builds up the spoons pop out.

I'm going to Vloggercon 2006!!!

I just bought my plane ticket (non-refundable), I'm about to sign up as a volunteer on the wiki, and Brittany is checking out hotels for us!!
No turning back folks, I've committed.
If you're wondering who this crazy person is who's dropping $325 on a plane ticket and two vacation days to fly across the country to meet people she barely knows than you need to learn more about vlogging and how it brings people together (among other things). You could also check up about Vloggercon, the one great annual meetup of vloggers. Don't confuse vlogging with internet video. This is about people people - not entertainment (although we're fairly entertaining if you ask me). :) Yeah, so I'm rambling. I'm excited, can you blame me?!

So being the lame-o that I am I made it through only the first four days of Videoblogging Week 2006... My excuses will be in parenthases so skip down if you don't care (my editing, converting and compressing software started acting funny and so I couldn't get a video up unless I bought new software and/or a camera).

Since the problem has not been remedied yet I will be working on replacing my software and/or camera in the near future. Until that happens I'll be working on the look of my site, my blog, and possibly some other vlogging activities. I'll still be watching others and commenting (which I LOVE to do!).

So the question that needs to be answered is this:
Which comes first - the software or the camera?

I was out late Thursday and Friday night with friends and planned to catch up with Videoblogging Week today but my original mov to avi converter stopped working and each one I've downloaded since either doesn't work or works crappily. So, all I've got are raw mov files that I can't compress. Gar! Anyone have suggestions?

Starting April 3 (which begins in approx 1hr.) Videoblogging Week 2006 will commence!!

What does that mean do you ask?
Well it means that anyone who is a vlogger or who has ever wanted to become a vlogger or was a vlogger and wants to begin again (so you get the point that it's anyone...) is invited to:
Make and post 1 video on their vlog for each day from April 3-9
7 videos in 7 days
And, if you are running behind one day,
just post two the next

The optional theme for this week is Week of Vlogging Dangerously.
Well, for someone who's as new at it as I am I'd say posting one video each day is dangerous in itself. Who knows what crazy stuff will happen?!
I'm excited, and you should get excited!!
