1) The 8-Year-Old Known as the “ Fish Boy” (Ichtyosis)

Eight-year-old Pan Xianhang can't sleep at night. Known as “Fish Boy” by locals in the Eastern China province of Wenling, little Xianhang is covered from head-to-toe in thick, itchy scales.

Diagnosed at birth with the rare genetic disease Ichtyosis, Pan has lived his whole life with unbearable pain, often suffering from overheating and extreme itching. His severe skin abnormalities have affected the shape of his eyelids, nose, mouth, and ears, while also limiting movement of his arms and legs.

According to The Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types, it is estimated that more than 16,000 babies are born with some form of Ichthyosis each year, varying in severity of symptoms.

2) The Woman Who Sees the World Upside Down (Spatial Orientation Phenomenon)

Bojana Danilovic has what you might call a unique worldview. Due to a rare condition, she sees everything upside down, all the time. The 28-year-old Serbian council employee uses an upside down monitor at work and relaxes at home in front of an upside down television stacked on top of the normal one that the rest of her family watches.

Experts from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have been consulted after local doctors were flummoxed by the extremely unusual condition. According to them, she is suffering from a neurological syndrome called "spatial orientation phenomenon."

3) The Woman with Two Vaginas (Uterus Didelphys)

Hazel Jones always wondered why she suffered from terrible cramps and heavy periods during puberty. However, it wasn't until she turned 18 that she was given her astonishing diagnosis; she has two vaginas.
The blonde 27-year-old from High Wycombe has the million-in-one condition called uterus didelphys, which means that she has two separate uteruses and cervixes.

Hazel went to the doctor after her long-term boyfriend told her she was "different" in the genital area. Sitting next to Hazel, Doctor Dawn Harper explained: "When developing in the womb girls start with two tubes. These fuse and the septum breaks down and forms one uterus. In around one in 3,000 cases the septum stays within the uterus but to actually have two separate uteruses is much rarer."

Hazel says she is comfortable with having the condition, despite the fact that she had to lose her virginity twice, essentially.

4) The Man Who Believes He is Dead

A patient has written a disturbing account of his life with a condition which makes him think he is dead, describing how he spent his days in graveyards as it was "the closest I could get to death."

The British man, identified only as Graham, woke up nine years ago utterly convinced that he was no longer alive, even though he was still breathing. Doctors diagnosed him with Cotard's Syndrome, which is also known as "Walking Corpse Syndrome" because it makes people think they have turned into zombies.

Graham did not believe them, however, and insisted that his brain was dead. The unusual condition emerged after Graham, who suffered from severe depression, tried to commit suicide by taking an electrical appliance with him into the bath. Eight months later he told doctors that his brain had died or was, at best, missing.

Only through months of therapy and treatment was he able to overcome the condition and live anything approaching a normal life. Cotard's Syndrome is among the rarest diseases in the world, and it is believed that just a few hundred people are affected at any one time. It is linked to depression and comes in a variety of forms, including the sensation that the limbs are no longer functioning.

5) The Girl Who Must Eat Every 15 Minutes to Stay Alive

Most of us struggle to keep our weight down, but not Lizzie Velasquez. The 21-year-old woman from Austin, Texas actually has to eat every 15 minutes to say alive. Miss Velasquez has a rare condition which prevents her from gaining weight, even though she eats up to 60 small meals a day.

Despite consuming between 5,000 and 8,000 calories daily, the communications student has never tipped the scales over 4st 3lbs. She is one of three people in the world with a rare disease that prevents people from gaining weight. Professor Garg and his team now believe that Lizzie may have a form of Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome (NPS), which causes accelerated ageing, fat loss from the face and body, and tissue degeneration.

6) The Man Who was a Dwarf and Later a Giant

Adam Rainer was born in Graz, Austria in 1899. Thanks to the fact that Adam attempted to join the army when he was 18 to participate in WWI, we know that at that age Rainer had reached a height of just 4 feet 6.3 inches (1.38 m), and then at 19 he measured in at 4 feet 8.3 inches (1.43 m) when he tried to join up again.

While he was short, he actually had exceptionally large feet for his height, with his shoes measuring in at a European size of 43 at the age of 18 (US size 10). According to Rainier, by the time he hit 21, while he still barely classified as a dwarf in height, his shoe size had gone up to a European size 53 (US 20).

Although his feet were continuing to grow at a remarkable pace, Rainer himself was staying at more or less the same height. That's when something even more bizarre than his clown-feet happened. For an unknown reason at the time, Adam started growing again... rapidly. From his 21st birthday to his 32nd, Rainer grew from just under 4 feet 10 inches tall to 7 feet 2 inches tall (1.47 m to 2.18 m).

After a medical exam, Doctors F. Windholz and A. Mandl discovered a tumor on his pituitary gland, which not only explained his rapid growth but his partial blindness, as well. This tumor resulted in a condition known as acromegaly, where the pituitary gland produces excessive amounts of growth hormone during adulthood. In 1930, doctors tried to fix the problem by removing the tumor, but he still continued to grow, albeit at a much slower rate.

Over the final 19 years of his life, Rainer's spinal curve would continue to increase and he'd grow another 6 inches. In 1950, he died at the age of 51 at a height of about 7 feet 8 inches (2.34 m), making him the only known person to spend time officially classified as a dwarf and a giant.

7) The Oldest Looking Teenager (Progeria)

Little Hayley Okines was told that she would not live beyond the age of 13. The youngster suffers from a rare disease called progeria, which turns children old before they have reached their teens. However, having reached her 14th birthday she has defied all odds, and to celebrate she has published her autobiography.

Progeria takes its name from the Greek word "proeros" meaning prematurely old, and involves a mutant protein called progerin that accelerates physical ageing. It ages the body at eight times the normal rate, leaving Hayley with skin that is thin and papery and bones that are fragile. Progeria patients normally die from heart attacks or strokes at an average age of 13.

8) The Woman Who Cries Tears of Blood (Haemolacria)

Doctors in Chile have been left stumped after being presented with a patient who apparently cries tears of blood. Yaritza Oliva, a 20-year-old from the city of Purranque, cries blood red tears several times a day after being afflicted by a mysterious condition earlier this month

After seeking medical assistance, she was prescribed eye drops to ease the burning pain she said was "indescribable." Her local hospital ruled out both an eye infection and conjunctivitis, believing that she may be suffering from a rare condition known as haemolacria, although it has yet to be officially diagnosed.

Several case of haemolacria have surfaced in recent years, although very little is known about the condition or its causes.

9) The Real Life "Benjamin Button" Brothers (Leukodystrophy)

A devastating age-reversing disease has regressed a pair of middle-aged brothers back to their childhood. Former RAF serviceman Michael Clark, 42, became homeless and now acts like a 10-year-old. Matthew Clark, 39, lost his job as a factory worker and started behaving like a toddler, despite having a 19-year-old daughter, Lydia, who is expecting a baby.

Their tragic situation mirrors the Brad Pitt film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which an old man keeps growing younger. The brothers now spend their days watching episodes of The Smurfs, eating crisps, and playing Snakes and Ladders because Clue is too difficult.

The brothers began behaving oddly after their parents retired to Spain in 2007. However, things came to a head last year when former RAF gunner Michael was evicted from his flat and slept rough for three weeks. Concerned Salvation Army workers sent him to a doctor and it was then that experts diagnosed his terminal leukodystrophy.

Further tests confirmed that Matthew, who used to work for the snack company Walkers, had the same devastating illness. The neurological disease is fairly common in newborns but affects just 100 adults in Britain. It attacks the brain, nervous system, and spinal cord.

10) The Woman Who Grows Fingernails in Place of Hair (An Unknown Skin Condition)

What if an unknown illness cost you everything? That is what happened to a Mid-South woman whose medical crisis has baffled doctors for almost three years now. It is a medical mystery you may find hard to watch, but what this woman lost due to disease she has gained in strength and spirit. Shanyna Isom was a high school graduate working toward a law degree. Today, loved ones have to help her get out of bed or off of the sofa. The nightmare began in September 2009, when Isom had an allergic reaction to steroids that she was given for an asthma attack. Within months, she was eaten alive by a debilitating skin disease doctors have yet to diagnose.

In August 2011, Isom was admitted to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Doctors determined that she produces 12 times the number of skin cells per hair follicle, which suffocates her skin. Instead of hair, her skin follicles produce human nails.

Doctors have been able to control her symptoms. However, Isom's mysterious health crisis has caused a financial crisis. Isom has established the S.A.I. Foundation to raise money for her treatments and to help others who are suffering from an unknown illness.

1) The Japanese Man Who Was Hit by Both Atomic Bombings, Hiroshima and Nagasaki

A resident of Nagasaki, Tsutomu Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on business for his employer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries when the city was bombed on August 6, 1945. He was actually preparing to leave the city on that day, and was on his way to the station when he realized that he had forgotten his "hanko" --a stamp allowing him to travel-- so he had to return to his workplace to get it. At 8:15, while he was walking back toward the docks, the American bomber The Enola Gay dropped the "Little Boy" atomic bomb near the center of the city, which was only 3 km away.

The explosion ruptured his eardrums, blinded him temporarily, and left him with serious burns all over the left side of the top half of his body. After recovering, he spent the night in an air raid shelter before returning to Nagasaki the following day.

Back at home in Nagasaki, he received treatment for his wounds. Despite being heavily bandaged, he reported for work on August 9, the day of the second atomic bombing. At 11am, just when Yamaguchi was describing the blast in Hiroshima to his supervisor, the American bomber Bockscar dropped the "Fat Man" atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Once again, he was 3 km from ground zero, but this time he was unhurt.

In 2009, the government of Japan officially recognized him as the only person who survived both explosions. He died of stomach cancer in 2010 at the age of 93.

2) The Greek Man Who Was the Only Person in Town Who Didn't Win a $950 Million Lotto

In 2012, residents of the small town of Sodeto, Spain bought tickets for Spain's huge Christmas lottery out of loyalty to the homemakers' association there, which makes a small percentage on the sales.

When the big day arrived, their number came in, making all 70 households winners of at least a piece of the biggest first prize ever, $950 million.

All of the town's residents won a piece of it except for one, Mr. Cotis Mitsotakis, a Greek filmmaker whose house was somehow overlooked that year as they made the rounds, making him the only one in all of Sodeto who didn't win.

3) The Ocean Liner Stewardess Who Crashed with the RMS Titanic, the HMHS Britannic, and the RMS Olympic

In 1911, 23-year-old Violet Jessop was a stewardess on the RMS Olympic, a luxury ship that was the largest civilian liner at that time, until it collided with the old protected cruiser HMS Hawke off the Isle of Wight.

A year later, Violet boarded the RMS Titanic, also as a stewardess, until it famously struck an iceberg, broke in two, and sank. She was later ordered into lifeboat 16 and was rescued by the RMS Carpathia.

Finally, during the First World War, Violet served again as a stewardess on board His Majesty's Hospital Ship Britannic. However, that ship apparently struck a mine and, with all the portholes open for ventilation, quickly sank in the Aegean Sea off the Greek island of Kea with the loss of 30 lives. Violet jumped out of a lifeboat to avoid being sucked into the Britannic's propellers and was eventually rescued, once again.

After the war, Violet continued to work a stewardess! Many years later, in 1971, she died of congestive heart failure.

4) The Woman Who Was Struck by Hurricanes Five Times

Melanie Martinez had lost four homes in the last 50 years after Hurricanes Betsy (1965), Juan (1985), George (1998), and Katrina (2005), but she was still hesitant to leave Louisiana. "I was born here," she said. "It's home, home, home."

Touched by her story, the A&E reality show Hideous Houses selected her home for a $20,000 makeover in 2012. Her luck seemed to change, but just a few months later a category 1 hurricane named Isaac took her brand new home. Everything was lost. "Now I've lost five houses to five storms. When he was a teenager, he broke his arm falling from a tree.

On his way back from the hospital, his bus crashed and he broke the same arm in another place. The date, of course, was Friday the 13th.

Then in 2006, his story hit the newspapers because he was laid up again after falling down a manhole at work.

10. Plague of Midges

The Cleveland Indians baseball stadium, and much of Cleveland itself, is built by a lake, which often leads to some strange problems. In a playoff game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians, thousands of midges came out of the lake in huge numbers and affected the course of the game. Though they’re generally harmless, the sheer swarm seriously tweaked Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain to the point that he could not concentrate. The bugs ended up swinging the game for the Indians, who ended up winning their series against the Yankees. Talk about home field advantage.

9. A No-Hitter Pitched While On LSD

Dock Ellis was having a normal day, hanging out with a friend of his and doing all the drugs, especially LSD. Suddenly, his girlfriend read in the newspaper that Ellis was supposed to be pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates that day. Despite needing to catch an afternoon flight, and running late, Ellis made it to the stadium, and proceeded to light up the opposition. While lit up himself.
Ellis became the first (and, as far as we know, only) pitcher to pull off a no-hitter while tripping the light fantastic. In fact, Ellis was so high, he didn’t even know he was pitching a no-hitter, and interpreted his teammates’ silence as disapproval for his druggie life. In fact, they were simply observing an age-old tradition of not speaking to a pitcher during a no-hit bid, so as not to break the pitcher’s concentration.

8. Potato Baseball

Dave Bresnahan played for a minor league team, and was a bit of a practical joker. He stayed up all night, slowly and intricately carving a potato into a perfect replica of a baseball. Then the next day he put his plan into play; there was a runner on third, and he threw the fake ball into the outfield. The runner came home, and was tagged out with the real ball that Bresnahan still had in his hand. The umpire quickly figured out what happened, and was not at all pleased. He ruled the runner safe at home, and Bresnahan was fired from the team shortly after. While he may have lost his job as a baseball player, he still regularly gets mail from fans of his admittedly-clever potato gag.

7. Bird Interference

Legendary player Randy Johnson was pitching a preseason game, and what had to have been the unluckiest bird in history decided to get right in front of a pitch. If you see it right in front of you it’s astounding; the ball releases, and then a puff of feathers fills the air. But in the video below you can see it in slow motion, as the bird flies across the plate and then turns into a shower of feathers:
Normally, it’s the fans that start a riot with each other, or with the players. In this case, however, things took a turn for the bizarre. The Texas Rangers were playing against the Oakland A’s, whose fans are known for being extremely belligerent. The heckling from the A’s fans got so bad, that a Ranger pitcher completely lost his temper and went on the attack, throwing a metal folding chair into the stands, and launching himself at the fans. The unrest between the fans and the players was so bad, that the umpires were considering calling the game as a forfeit, and just clearing out the whole stadium to avoid any further trouble. The fan who was hit with the chair got a broken nose and an out-of-court settlement out of the deal.

5. Back-To-Back Home Runs Off The Same Foul Pole

In the same game, back in July 2012, so many odds were defied, that it is hard to calculate. First, one home run was hit off of a foul pole. And then later on in the game, another home run hit the exact same foul pole. Apparently the last time this happened was in the year 2000, which was when they first started recording home runs that were hit off foul poles. The odds boggle the mind; perhaps baseball is actually played by wizards.

4. Playing A Useless Game Through Serious Injury

It’s one thing to play through injury during an important game, but how about when it truly could not matter less if you played or not? Such was the case during an all-star game played by Red Sox legend Ted Williams. Being an all-star game, the outcome, and who contributed to it, didn’t matter in the least. Yet Williams, after breaking his left elbow during a catch early on in the game, still continued playing for seven innings after. Not only that but, even after he broke his elbow, he made an important catch, and hit a single that put his team ahead.

3. Rain Delay In A Domed Stadium

It doesn’t make sense that you should have a rain delay in a stadium with a retractable dome, but that actually ended up happening in Toronto, in the middle of a Blue Jays game, back in 1989. The stadium management was not prepared for the weather, expecting a mere light drizzle, and so they didn’t close the roof of the stadium. Then the drizzle turned into a torrential downpour, and they were left with a delayed game and a lot of angry fans who were not exactly expecting such an utterly avoidable snafu. It turns out that the dome cannot close safely if there are high winds, which happens to be a common thing during storms. Perhaps they should have closed it anyway, since they expected rain and all, but that probably would have been too simple.

2. Manager In Disguise

Bobby Valentine has been involved in baseball for a long time, and has always been a little eccentric, but during one game, whie he was manager of the New York Mets, he took it to the next level. It started with him getting ejected from a game for arguing with an umpire, which is a pretty normal occurrence in baseball. However, Valentine was not content sitting this game out, and decided that he still needed to be around to keep things going properly. While a sane manager might have tried to coach things using a phone, or perhaps some other clever trick, he had other ideas. Valentine put on a fake mustache, and returned to the dugout, which can be seen in the video below:

He was suspended and fined for his joke, but it definitely goes down as one of the goofiest moments in sports history. We can’t help but feel that he could have come up with a better disguise than a fake mustache. Like just about anything else.

1. Bill Veeck’s Entire Career

Bill Veeck was, by far, the most insane owner in the history of baseball, and was better than anyone at getting people out to the park. Among his antics, he brought midgets in as a gimmick, and sometimes held weddings on the field. He offered prizes of live animals, and once awarded a 200-pound block of ice, which hopefully the recipient had a use for. He also once gave his team manager a gigantic birthday cake except, instead of the usual pretty lady you would expect to pop out, a new player made an appearance instead. Thankfully, said new player was not wearing a sexy bikini.

Arizona and Mexico Once Played Volleyball Using the Border Fence as the Net

Let’s be honest here, after reading the title you’re only here to see a picture, so here it is.

As hard as it might be to believe, yes, that’s the US, Mexico border and there are citizens from both countries happily playing volleyball while using the division of an entire country as their net. There hasn’t been a use of land that petty and yet awesome since Abraham Lincoln invented the chokeslam.
That game took place during the 1979 celebration of international friendship day, keen to embrace the spirit of being international friends, Mexico and US citizens thought screw it, we have a fence just sitting there and we want to play volleyball dammit! So that’s exactly what they did.
So the next time you see immigration in the news, just remember that 30 years ago people of all colours and nationalities forget their differences for 10 minutes just to serve each other at volleyball.

Guy who won 400m in olympics by WALKING !

Wyndham Halswelle is the only guy in Olympic history to win a race by “walkover”, if you’re not sure what that means, basically rather than running and getting sweaty like a chump, he lazily walked around the track and then won a gold medal, because suck it, spirit of healthy competition.

How did this occur you ask? Well disembodied voice in our head, Wyndham actually did run the 400M race properly during the 1908 Olympics, however, when someone blocked him like a coward, the race was declared void and it was ordered that runners, with the exception of the guy who elbowed Wynham, run the race again. The other two American runners refused to run out of protest, or possible fear (probably fear) leaving Wyndham with literally no competition. Thus allowing him to be the only man in recorded history who walked over the finish line and got a gold medal for it.

10. Drosera Capensis – Cape Sundew

Though arguably very pretty, sporting delicate pink flowers and a sweet scent, the Cape Sundew plant is still what you’d get if you combined an octopus’s tentacle and the screams of every child in the world.
The Sundew is one of the few plants on Earth that eats meat — more specifically, insects. If you think that’s awesome, it is. But unlike more well-known carnivorous plants like the Venus flytrap, the Cape Sundew kills its prey in open air, allowing it to see sweet, enveloping freedom as it is slowly dissolved. That’s unnecessarily hardcore for something you could kill with a pair of scissors.

9. Hippomane Mancinella – The Manchineel Tree

The Manchineel tree holds the unimpressive record of the world’s most dangerous tree. We say unimpressive because we don’t think anything can be considered dangerous if the method of avoiding it is sitting down and playing Nintendo.
OK fine, that last sentence is a lie, because these trees have the potential to straight up murder you. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, just standing beneath the Manchineel tree while it’s raining will cause you to break out in blisters. Did you read that correctly? This tree has water on its side. That’s 1/4 of the elements. If you were in Ancient Greece right now, you’d be screwed.
Along with this, the tree’s fruit is pretty much fatal. We know this because apparently, hungry people still decide to eat the fruit from the horrible, burning, homicidal pain tree.

8. Ficus – The Fig Tree

The only danger a fig tree poses to a human being is if it falls on top of you while you’re doing press-ups over a knife. However, if you’re a wasp, the fig tree is the thing you check under your tiny wasp bed for at night.
You see, fig trees pretty much rely on wasps to pollinate the; as such, they’ve specifically evolved to make sure that if that doesn’t happen, the wasp will feel its figgy wrath. So how does a tree with less movement options than Stephen Hawking’s chess pieces harm a creature with 3 more axes of movement than it does? Well, it attacks its children. If a wasp doesn’t pollinate the tree, but still tries to lays its young in the tree’s fruit, the tree somehow knows this and, in retaliation, it will prematurely drop the fruit, killing the wasp’s babies. Jeez!

7. Puya Chilensis – The Sheep Eater

This plant doesn’t really have a colloquial name, but we feel like our choice of “the sheep eater” is a worthy candidate.
The plant itself doesn’t eat the sheep (since that would be stupid,) but it does trap them in its spines, causing them to trip and become ensnared. When the animal eventually dies and decomposes, it becomes food for the plant. Now, we’re going to pose a question for you all: what’s more terrifying, an animal that kills its prey outright and quickly eats it, or a plant — a thing that has no mind or feelings — tripping up an innocent animal and growing stronger as it starves and poops itself to death.
We thought so.

6. Euphorbia Resinifera – Resin Spurge

The Resin Spurge is a tiny Moroccan cactus that we love purely for letting us type the words “tiny Moroccan cactus.” Now, for the most part, cacti are only dangerous if you try and shove one in your pants or something. But it’s not the outside of the resin spurge that makes it awesomely badass, it’s the inside.

The plant contains a chemical known as resiniferatoxin. If a single drop of this chemical touched your tongue, your last memory of this mortal plane would be you clawing out your own tongue with an ice pick. This is because the chemical is hotter than any pepper known to man. In fact, it’s hotter than the stuff we use to melt the eyes of sex offenders. Standard police-issue pepper spray clocks in at around 1.5 million Scoville units, and the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, the world’s hottest pepper, tops off at about 2 million. Big deal; resiniferatoxin clocks in at 16 billion. Meaning that this little cactus is more dangerous to your skin and eyes than 10,000 cans of pepper spray. Why we don’t advise women to throw them at creepy guys in bars is a question for another day.

The Rosary Pea, or Crab’s Eye, is a plant you’ve probably never heard of, mainly because the most notable part of it is its tiny seeds, which are bright red and often used in jewelry and instrument making.
However, these tiny seeds contain a toxin dozens of times more potent than ricin. So surely eating one is certain death, right? Well, not exactly. For the most part, eating the seeds has little to no effect on humans, due to the hardness of their shell.

With a name like the Suicide Tree, we were expecting big things from this entry, right up until we heard its other name: the Pong Pong. Then we just felt sad we don’t get to use that word more.
So why is this thing called the Suicide Tree? Well, it’s because it’s used in a lot of suicides, due to its fruit having a very unique property. This property being that it’s poisonous, yet has a flavor that is very easy to hide with strong spices or curries. As fate would have it, the tree grows in India, making suicide curry, or curricide, very easy for people.
However, this property is also utilized by, oddly enough, annoyed husbands to murder their wives. Since no one knows what this fruit actually tastes like, we’re not exactly sure why they feel the need to put it into a curry in the first place, but we’re just going to assume that some criminals plain love cooking and hate being married.

Ongaonga are like stinging nettles carrying tasers. There are stories of people lightly brushing this thing and being crippled to the point of wishing for suicide within an hour.

1) 700-Year-Old Mummy

These incredible pictures show a 700-year-old mummy in excellent condition, which road workers discovered by chance in eastern China. The corpse of the high-ranking woman is believed to be from the Ming Dynasty, the ruling power in China between 1368 and 1644. It was stumbled upon by a construction team that was looking to expand a street.

The mummy, which was found in the city of Taizhou in the Jiangsu Province along with two other wooden tombs, offers a fascinating insight into life as it was back then. Discovered two meters below the road surface, the woman's features - from her head to her shoes - have retained their original condition and have hardly deteriorated.

When the discovery was made by the road workers in 2011, Chinese archaeologists from the nearby Museum of Taizhou were called in to excavate the area. They were surprised by the remarkably good condition of the woman's skin, hair, eyelashes, and face. It was as though she had only recently died.

2) Sacrificed Inca Children

The maiden, the boy, and the girl of lightning were three Inca children entombed on a bleak and frigid mountaintop 500 years ago as a religious sacrifice. Unearthed in 1999 from the 22,000-foot summit of Mount Llullaillaco, a volcano near the Chilean border, their frozen bodies were among the best preserved mummies ever found, with internal organs intact, blood still present in the heart and lungs, and skin and facial features mostly unscathed. No special effort had been made to preserve them. The cold and the dry, thin air did all the work. They froze to death as they slept, and 500 years later they still looked like sleeping children, not mummies.

The children were sacrificed as part of a religious ritual known as Capacocha. They walked hundreds of miles to and from ceremonies in Cuzco and were then taken to the summit of Llullaillaco (yoo-yeye-YAH-co), given chicha (maize beer), and, once they were asleep, placed in underground niches where they froze to death. Only beautiful, healthy, physically perfect children were sacrificed, and it was an honor to be chosen. According to Incan beliefs, the children did not die, but joined their ancestors and watched over their villages from the mountaintops like angels.

3) Rosalia Lombardo

Rosalia Lombardo (1918 – 1920) was an Italian child who died of influenza. Rosalia's father, General Lombardo, was sorely grieved about her death, so he approached Alfredo Salafia, a noted embalmer, to preserve her. Her body was one of the last corpses to be admitted to the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo in Sicily.

Thanks to Salafia's embalming techniques, the body was well-preserved. X-rays of the body show that all the organs are remarkably intact. Rosalia Lombardo's body is kept in a small chapel at the end of the catacomb's tour and is encased in a glass covered coffin located on a marble pedestal.

4) 2,400-Year-Old Egyptian Mummy with a Brain Removal Tool

In 2012, a brain-removal tool used by ancient Egyptian embalmers was discovered lodged in the skull of a female mummy that dates back around 2,400 years.

Removal of the brain was an Egyptian mummification procedure that became popular around 3,500 years ago and remained in use during later periods. Identifying the ancient tools which embalmers used for brain removal is difficult, and researchers note that this is only the second time that such a tool has been reported within a mummy's skull.

Located between the left parietal bone and the back of the skull, which had been filled with resin, the object was discovered in 2008 through a series of CT scans. Researchers then inserted an endoscope (a thin tube often used for noninvasive medical procedures) into the mummy to get a closer look and ultimately detach it from the resin.

5) Strange Mummy Found by a 10-Year-Old

A German boy discovered what appeared to be a bandaged Egyptian mummy inside an old wooden chest in his grandmother's attic.

Experts were investigating whether the "mummy" was a genuine, ancient Egyptian relic, a replica, or something entirely different. It was inside a sarcophagus complete with a death mask, a canopic jar – used by ancient Egyptians to store removed organs – and other artifacts. The ten-year-old, Alexander, made the mystery discovery while searching around his grandmother's flat in Diepholz, Germany.

Alexander's father, Lutz Wolfgang Kettler, a dentist, recalled that his own father had acquired a chest while travelling in north Africa in the 1950s and had it shipped back to Germany. The senior Mr. Kettler had apparently never spoken about the chest or its contents. "Mummy unwrapping parties" were popular among certain elements of German high society in the 1950s, he said.

6) Egyptian Mummy "Dressed" in Roman Robes

"Dressed" in Roman robes, a 2,000-year-old coffin stares back from a rare Egyptian grave in the Bahariya Oasis, about 225 miles (362 kilometers) southwest of Cairo. On April 12, 2010, Egyptian officials announced that the unopened plaster sarcophagus, believed to contain a mummy, is among the ancient treasures uncovered at a newfound cemetery.

The site contains at least 14 tombs from the era when ancient Rome controlled Egypt from 30 B.C. to A.D. 395. Jewelry, funerary masks, and pottery were also found, though the sand-covered tombs have been damaged by humidity and seeping groundwater. Measuring just 3.2 feet (97 centimeters) long and carved with the finery of an influential woman, the sarcophagus remains something of a mystery.

"When I saw it for the first time, I thought it was a dwarf. ... ," said Mahmoud Affifi, director of Cairo and Giza antiquities for Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities. "Maybe she was a small girl, but [even] now we don't know," he said.

7) 2,000-Year-Old European Found in China

An amazing discovery of 2,000 year old mummies in the Tarim basin of Western China occurred in the early 90s. However, more amazing than the discovery itself was the astonishing fact that the mummies were blond-haired and long-nosed. In 1993, college professor Victor Mayer collected DNA from the mummies and his tests verified that the bodies were all of European genetic stock. Ancient Chinese texts from as early as the first millennium BC do mention groups of far-east dwelling Caucasian people referred to as the Bai, Yeuzhi, and Tocharians. None, though, fully reveal how or why these people ended up there.

8) Plomo Mummy

The Plomo Mummy, or La Momia del Cerro El Plomo in Spanish, is the well preserved remains of an Incan child found on Cerro El Plomo in 1954. It was the first frozen mummy discovery from an Incan high-altitude human sacrifice. The mummy is curated by the National Museum of Natural History in Santiago, Chile, while a replica of the mummy is on public display.

1) Society Harnessing Equipment (Anti Rape Bra)

A trio of Indian students created an “anti-rape underwear” that will deliver electric shocks and alert police and parents to potential assaults. Named Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE), the lingerie is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) for mobile communications (GSM), pressure sensors and is capable of sending 3,800 kV.

Manisha Mohan, an engineering student at the SRM University of Chennai, built a prototype of the underwear along with colleagues Rimpi Tripathi and Neeladri Basu Pal.

The garment is features sensors and an electric shock circuit board. The students, relying on studies that show aggressors are most likely to first reach for a woman's chest, rigged the bra with a circuit of sensors 'calibrated to detect pinching and squeezing.'

2) FemDefence Tampon

Anita Ingmarsdotter, a Swedish woman, has patented an anti-rape device, called FemDefence. The basic idea is that the woman carries the protective device in her vagina. In it there is a sharp pin which has a penetrating effect on the perpetrator's penis in the event of a rape. The construction is such that the pin still cannot injure the bearer.

According to Gizmodo, the FemDefence tampon isn't real—it's just a concept design to provoke discussion.

3) Hairy stockings

In June 2013, an image originating from China's version of Twitter of what appears to be a woman wearing hairy legtights, which are intended to protect women from perverts, hit the internet by storm. 6) The Injector

In a strange way one might consider Ira Sherman a sort of modern day Renaissance man…with a twist. In Ira's more recent work he has been exploring what he calls "Impenetrable Devices" that are in reality Anti-Rape Devices. In one of these pieces entitled "The Injector" two pneumatic syringes inject tattoo dye and sedatives into a rapist. This also stops the sexual predator instantaneously and permanently tattoos him for positive identification.

His inspiration for the anti-rape devices comes from interviews he had with five victims of sexual assault who were trying to regain a sense of physical safety. What they wanted, Sherman said, was body armour.

1) The Dibbuk Box Contains an Ancient, Malevolent Spirit

A dibbuk box is a wine cabinet which, according to Jewish folklore, is said to be haunted by a restless, evil spirit that is capable of haunting and possessing the living. One particular dibbuk box became famous when it was listed on eBay along with a terrifying backstory.

The story began in September of 2001, when an antique buyer and refinisher attended an estate sale in Portland, Oregon. The auction was held to sell off the belongings of a 103-year-old woman, and her granddaughter informed the antique dealer of the woman's past when she noticed that he had purchased a simple wooden wine cabinet. The old woman had been Jewish, the only one of her family members to have survived her time in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. When she immigrated to the United States, the wine cabinet and two other items were the only things she brought with her.

The woman's granddaughter explained that her grandmother had always kept the box hidden away, and said that it should never, ever be opened because it contained a malicious spirit called a dibbuk. She requested that the box be buried with her, but since doing so went against Jewish tradition, her family did not oblige. When the antique dealer asked the granddaughter if she would like to keep the box for sentimental reasons, the woman vehemently refused, becoming very upset and saying, "We made a deal! You have to take it!"

The dealer took his purchase back to his shop and placed it in his workshop in the basement. Immediately, strange and frightening things started happening. He was called by his frantic shop assistant, who said that the lights had gone out, the doors and security gates had locked, and she heard terrible sounds coming from the basement. When he investigated, he discovered a terrible odor of cat urine lingering in the air, and every light bulb in the place had been smashed.

The dealer gave the wine box to his mother as a gift, and the woman immediately suffered a major stroke. In the hospital, she spelled out, "H-A-T-E G-I-F-T" as tears spilled from her eyes uncontrollably. He attempted to give the gift to several more people, but it was always returned to him within a few days, usually because people just didn't like it, or because they felt that something about it was evil. He began suffering from a recurring nightmare, and he later found that all of his family members who had been around the box were having the same dream. He started seeing shadow figures darting around in his peripheral vision, as well.

After finally admitting that there was something paranormal happening, he went online to research and fell asleep at his computer. When he woke up, he felt like something was breathing on his neck, and when he turned his head he saw a huge shadow figure dashing away from him down the hall. He then decided to list the item on eBay, along with a detailed account of what had happened to him since obtaining the box.

Jason Haxton, the curator of a medical museum in Missouri, purchased the box from the eBay auction. He later wrote a book detailing the strange story of the dibbuk box, and in 2012, a horror movie based on the book entitled The Possession was released.

2) Annabelle, The Doll Possessed by a Lying Demon

In 1970, a woman shopping in a thrift store bought a Raggedy-Ann style doll for her daughter, who was in college. Her daughter liked it and put it in her apartment, but soon she and her roommate both noticed odd things happening involving the doll. It would move by itself, often being found in another room even though no one had touched it. They found small scraps of parchment paper, which they didn't even own, with childish handwriting scrawled on them. They even found the doll standing impossibly on its rag doll legs one day.

The frightened girls contacted a psychic medium, who told them that the doll was possessed by the spirit of a young girl who had died in the apartment building. "Annabelle" said that she liked the college girls, and wanted to stay with them, so they told her that she could. Unfortunately, granting the spirit this permission lead to increased paranormal activity in their apartment, including having a male friend get attacked by the doll one night, leaving vicious scratch marks all over his chest and torso.

The married duo soon found that the doll is not possessed by the spirit of a child at all; rather, it is possessed by a demon who had lied about its identity in order to get close to the girls, perhaps intending to possess one or both of them. The girls gave "Annabelle" to the Warrens, who encased it in a glass display cabinet in their Occult Museum in Connecticut. The sign on the glass reads, “Warning: Positively Do Not Open.”

3) The "eBay Haunted Painting” Causes Sickness, Screaming, and Fear

In 2000, an anonymous eBay seller listed a painting created by artist Bill Stoneham called "The Hands Resist Him." This painting is now largely considered to be one of the world's most haunted works of art.

The painting features a boy and a creepy doll standing in front of a glass door. The painting was created in 1972 and purchased by Hollywood actor John Marley. It was then bought by a California couple before going up for sale on eBay along with a dire warning about the problems involved with owning the object.

According to the couple, the figures in the painting moved around at night, sometimes disappearing from the canvas entirely. The boy in the painting was said to actually enter the room where the painting hung, and everyone who viewed the painting reported feeling sick and weak. Small children would take one look at the painting and run from the room screaming. Adults sometimes felt like unseen hands were grabbing them, and others said that they felt a blast of hot air, as if they had opened an oven.

Even those who viewed the painting online claimed to feel a sense of unease, dread, or terror when looking at the painting. One person even claimed that their brand new printer refused to print the photo of the painting, however it worked fine on every other print job.

The painting was purchased by an art gallery in Grand Rapids, MI. When the gallery spoke to the artist who had created it, he was surprised to hear that his work was at the center of a paranormal investigation, but he did mention that two people who originally displayed and reviewed the painting had died within a year of viewing "The Hands Resist Him."

3) The Myrtles Plantation Mirror Contains the Spirits of a Woman and Her Children

Myrtles Plantation is an allegedly haunted bed and breakfast that is largely considered to be the most haunted home in the United States, as well as one of the most haunted houses in the world. The plantation dates back to 1796, and it was built on a Native American burial ground. Additionally, it is rumored to be the location of at least ten murders, and paranormal events are an almost daily occurrence.

Perhaps the most haunted item on the premises is a mirror that was added to the home in 1980. Guests of the plantation have reported seeing figures lurking in the mirror, as well as child-sized handprints on the glass. Legend claims that the mirror contains the spirits of Sara Woodruff and her children. The Woodruffs were poisoned to death, and though custom dictates that mirrors should be covered after death to prevent spirits from getting trapped, this mirror was not covered, so the belief is that the Woodruff souls are very much present and active within the mirror.

5) Haunted Wedding Dress Dances On Its Own

In 1849, a girl from a rich family named Anna Baker fell in love with a low class iron worker. Anna's father, Ellis Baker, refused to let her marry her beloved, banishing the young man from their hometown of Altoona, Pennsylvania and dooming his daughter to a life of spinsterhood. Anna was so angry with her father that she never fell in love or married, and remained bitter and angry until her death in 1914.

Before her father sent her true love away, Anna had chosen a beautiful wedding dress that she intended to wear at their wedding. When the wedding did not occur, another wealthy woman from a local family, Elizabeth Dysart, wore the dress instead, gloating the entire time. Years later, the wedding dress was given to an historical society, and eventually the Baker mansion was turned into a museum. The wedding dress was placed in a glass case in what was formerly Anna Baker's bedroom. After her death, visitors claim to see the dress move on its own, especially during full moons. The dress sways from side to side, as if an unseen bride is standing in front of her mirror, admiring herself in the gown.

Investigators who have searched for drafts and other naturally occurring circumstances have come up empty handed. No one can be sure why the dress sometimes moves by itself, though many speculate that the spurned bride, Anna Baker, has reclaimed her dress at last.

5) Chairs Push People Out of Them and Make People Feel Sick

Newport, Rhode Island is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Settled in 1690, by the early twentieth century the seaport town had become a hot summer destination for some of America's wealthiest families. The mansions of Newport are legendary, as are the many ghost stories that accompany buildings that have been around for so long.

Belcourt Castle was founded by Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont, a wealthy American socialite and politician, in 1894. There are many different documented hauntings within this lavish home, but perhaps the most famous haunted objects in the castle are two chairs that reportedly have spirits attached to them. Visitors who sit in the chairs say they immediately feel cold, queasy, and uncomfortable. Their hands feel like they're pricked by static electricity when held near the chairs, and many people have claimed that they've felt like they're sitting on someone when they attempt to sit in the chairs. Several visitors have actually been ejected from the chairs by an unseen force.

7) Haunted Doll Curses Those Who Take His Picture Without Permission

In 1896, this creepy doll belonged to a child named Robert Eugene Otto in Key West, Florida. The doll had been given to him by a servant who practiced black magic, and who disliked the boy's family. The little boy adored his doll, and would often talk to him at length. Servants in the Otto home became concerned, however, when they swore they could hear a phantom voice talking back to the boy, and neighbors claimed to have seen the doll moving from window to window in the Otto house when no one was at home.

Soon, the doll started causing mischief, and the frightened child would claim that he had no part in it. Rooms would be messed up, vases smashed, and little Robert would be blamed, even though he seemed extremely afraid and insisted that his doll had done the deeds.

Robert inherited the house and died in 1972, so the house was purchased by another family. A little girl who had just moved into the home found the doll in the attic and was instantly afraid of it. She said the doll was alive and wanted to kill her. The doll finally wound up at an art gallery and historical museum in Key West, where it remains on display to this day. Oddly enough, visitors to the museum claim that they must ask permission to take a photograph of the doll. If they don't, legend has it that the doll will curse you. The museum displays letters from so-called "cursed" individuals who have written to the doll, apologizing for not asking to take his picture, and asking to be released from his spell.

8) The Women from Lemb Statue Brings Death to All Owners

Nicknamed "The Goddess of Death," The Women from Lemb is a statue carved from pure limestone that was discovered in 1878 in Lemb, Cypruss. The item dates back to 3500 B.C., and is believed to represent a goddess, similar to a fertility idol. The statue was first owned by Lord Elphont, and within six years of having the statue in his possession, all seven of the Elphont family members had died from mysterious causes.

Both of the next two owners, Ivor Manucci and Lord Thompson-Noel, also died along with their entire families just a few short years after taking the statue into their homes.

The fourth owner, Sir Alan Biverbrook, died as well, along with his wife and two of their daughters. Two of Biverbrook's sons remained, and though they weren't big believers in the occult, they were scared enough by the sudden and strange deaths of four of their family members that they decided to donate the statue to the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, where it remains today.

Shortly after the item was placed in the museum, the chief of the section where the statue dwelled suddenly died as well, though no museum curator will admit that the statue may have supernatural properties. No one has handled the statue since that first museum worker who passed away, and the item is safely under glass and protected from human hands.

9) "The Anguished Man" Captured On Video

This scary-looking painting was kept in Sean Robinson's grandmother's attic for twenty-five years before he inherited it from her. She had always told Robinson that the painting was evil, explaining how the artist who created it had used his own blood mixed with the paint, and had killed himself shortly after completing it. She claimed to hear voices and crying when the painting was displayed, and to see the shadowy figure of a man in her house, which is why she locked it away in the attic.

As soon as Robinson took the painting into his home, he and his family started experiencing the same kinds of creepy phenomenon. His son fell down the stairs, his wife felt something stroking her hair, and they saw the shadow man and heard crying.

Robinson decided to set up a camera overnight to try to capture some of the strange events on tape. Robinson's YouTube videos show slamming doors, rising smoke, and the painting falling from a wall for no reason.

Frightened, Robinson soon put the painting down in his basement, but he is not interested in selling it.

10) The Cursed "Chair of Death" Kills All Who Sit in It

In 1702, a convicted murderer named Thomas Busby was about to be hanged for his crimes. His last request was to have his final meal served at his favorite pub in Thirsk, England. He finished his meal, stood up, and said, "May sudden death come to anyone who dare sit in my chair."

The chair remained in the pub for centuries, and patrons would often dare one another to sit in the cursed seat. During World War II, airmen from a nearby base frequented the pub, and locals noticed that the soldiers who sat in the chair would never return from war.

In 1967, two Royal Air Force pilots sat in the chair, only to crash their truck into a tree just after they left. In 1970, a mason tested his fate in the hot seat, only to die that same afternoon by falling into a hole at his job site. A year after that, a roofer who sat in it died after the roof he was working on collapsed. When the pub's cleaning lady tripped and fell into the chair, she died shortly afterwards from a brain tumor.

This list goes on, and finally the pub owner moved the chair into the basement. Unfortunately, even in storage the chair claimed another victim. After a delivery man took a quick rest while unloading packages in the store room, he was killed in a car accident that same day.

Eventually, the pub owner donated the chair to the local museum in 1972. The museum displays the chair by hanging it five feet in the air so that no one can possibly sit in it by mistake again. Fortunately, no one has sat in the chair since
